        This study investigated the effect of adding poultry litter additive containing probiotics and amino acids to the litter on weight gain in ducks and ammonia content in poultry litter. Nine hundred 1-day-old ducks (Pekin) were randomly distributed into three groups (300 birds per treatment divided into three replicates) using a randomized block design. Treatments were top-dressed on the litter surface at rates of 2 kg poultry litter additives (T1) and 2 kg macsumsuk (T2) per m2, and untreated poultry litter was used as the control. Overall, a significant difference (p<0.05) in weight gains was observed at 3 and 4 weeks, but not at 5 and 6 weeks. After 4 weeks, when compared to other treatments, the addition of poultry litter additive tended to increase the average body weight gain (90-130 g). The ammonia content was affected by all treatments (p<0.05) over time except at 3 weeks, however, compared to other treatments, the poultry litter additive decreased the ammonia content. In particular, the rate of ammonia reduction by the poultry litter additives over time was approximately 20.2%-49.2%. Regarding temperature, a significant difference was observed in all treatment groups (p<0.05), except at 3 weeks. In conclusion, considering poultry litter additives and temperature, the increase in duck weight gain was associated with a decrease in ammonia content in the poultry litter.

        The present study evaluated the blood profile and meat color of ducks with Houttuynia cordata (H. cordata) pellets in their diets. In total, 120 pekin ducks (1-d-old) were used in a 42 d growth trial. Ducks were randomly allocated to six pens and exposed to three replicates of two treatments: (1) controls as basal diet and (2) basal diet + 2% H. cordata pellets (T1). Total-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride contents or L* and b* vaules revealed significant difference (p>0.05) in compared with those in the controls; however, dietary supplementation of H. cordata pellets did not affect (p>0.05) LDL-cholesterol, VLDL-cholesterol and a* values. In conclusion, the inclusion of 2% H. cordata pellets improved HDL-cholesterol and meat color in duck breast and thigh meats, which further reduced other cholesterol values.

        This study was conducted to investigate the distribution of duck production in duck housing as a function of the breeding period. The items in duck production distribution included body weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and average duck production. All data were based on eight cycles (June and December, 2017; February, June, August, September, and November, 2018; February, 2019) at Farm Site 1 through 7. The most optimal results in the duck production distribution were observed at Site 1 for weight gain, feed intake, and feed efficiency. This could be explained by the fact that Site 1 was well managed in environmental improvement and sustainability. Based on these data, selective alternatives to improve duck production in duck farms are recommended as follows: first, proper management and recording of litter used as a flooring material are required, and second, continuous management such as temperature, relative humidity and ventilation is needed. Lastly, it is necessary to change duck facilities by introducing environmental management techniques. Furthermore, efforts to improve the overall facilities and management of duck breeding farms through additional field studies are needed in the future.

        This study investigated the physicochemical properties of Pekin duck breast meat obtained from ducks fed diets consisting different types of sipjeondaebo-tang by-products and red ginseng marc with fermented red koji during storage. A total of 180 Pekin ducks (0-day old) were divided into four groups, each consisting of three replicates (15 ducks per pen). This study investigated diets with four types of treatments: control (basal diet),1% blend powder, pelleted 1% blend, and coated pellets of 1% blend; the blend was a mixture of sipjeondaebo-tang by-products powder and red ginseng marc with fermented red koji. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) in duck breast meat pH on storage days 3 and 7, TBARS on storage days 0 through 7, and DPPH radical scavenging on storage days 0 and 7. However, the pH values on storage day 0 and DPPH radical scavenging on storage day 3 were significantly different (p<0.05) in the meats from control and treated diet fed ducks. Especially, on storage day 7, the breast meat from ducks treated with different types of sipjeondaebo-tang by-products and red ginseng marc with fermented red koji showed lower TBARS values and increased DPPH radical scavenging activity compared to the control. In conclusion, addition of different types of sipjeondaebo-tang by-product and red ginseng marc with fermented red koji to 1% blend might be helpful in increasing antioxidant effects and reducing product wastage.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary Hermetia illucens powder on duck litter quality. One hundred twenty Pekin ducks (0 day old) were assigned to 2 groups (0% and 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder) with 3 replicates (20 ducks per replicate) for 42 days. Duck litter quality included moisture, pH, VBN, total nitrogen, ammonia, and temperature. Litter pH and VBN values were significantly affected by Hermetia illucens powder (p<0.05). However, moisture and total nitrogen values were not greatly influenced by the addition of 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder (p>0.05). At 21, 28 and 35 days, both 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder and controls had a great effect (p<0.05) on ammonia contents, except at 7, 14 and 42 days. In comparison to control, ammonia contents in groups with 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder were reduced from 16.9 to 41.8% as the days increased. Duck litter showed lower temperature by 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder compare to control. In terms of environmental managements, these results suggest that using 0.5% Hermetia illucens powder as feed additives improved litter quality and decreased ammonia contents.

        The effect of insect feed powder on the growth performance and economic evaluation of ducks was investigated. One hundred and twenty-old Pekin ducks were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments (0% and 1% Hermetia illucens powder) with three replicates of 20 birds each for 14-42 d. No significant (p>0.05) difference in growth performance between the control and 1% H. illucens powder was observed, except the feed conversion ratio (p<0.05), for the experimental period. The treatments with 1% H. illucens powder improved the economic indicators in comparison with the controls. Therefore, a diet supplemented with 1% H. illucens powder could significantly improve the feed conversion ratios and increase the economic indicators.

        This study evaluated the duck growth performance and the economic benefits on using illite as a feed additive for ducks. Illite powder at three levels (0%, 1%, and 1.5%) was added to commercial duck diets, and fed to 180 one-day-old ducks (Pekin, 3 replicates, 20 ducks per pen) using a randomized block design for 39 days. During the experimental period, there were no significant growth performance differences between treatments (p>0.05), except with the feed conversion ratio (p<0.05), for all periods (8-39 days). In addition, the dietary supplementation of 1% and 1.5% illite did not significantly improve (p>0.05) Feed Intake Cost (FIC), Weight Gain Value (WGV), Meat Production Cost (MPC), Economic Efficiency (EE), Profitability (P), or cost benefit ratio for 8 to 21 d, 22 to 39 d, and 8 to 39 d. However, the differences in meat production cost and profitability between treatments were statistically significant (p<0.05) for all periods (8-39 d). In conclusion, adding 1% and 1.5% illite to duck diets is not beneficial for improving either the duck growth performance or the economic indicators.

        A diarylheptanoid, (5S)-1,7-bis-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5- hydroxyheptane-3-one-5-O-β-D-xylopyranoside, named oregonin (1), was isolated from the of Alnus japonica (A. japonica), which is a species of the genus Betulaceae, growing throughout Korea, Japan and China. The structure was elucidated by various spectroscopic methods including negative and positive LC/MS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR techniques or by comparison with authentic samples. In order to evaluate the anti-oxidative activities of oregonin (1) isolated from A. japonica, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and 2,2'-azino-bis[3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid] (ABTS) radical scavenging activity were measured in vitro. Oregonin from A. japonica exhibited potent DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. A. japonica shows not only 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and ABTS radical scavenging activity, but also apoptosis modulative effects. The present results indicate that A. japonica could be a hair-growth-promoting agent for cosmetic products.

        The influence of various forms of Houttuynia cordata with fermented red koji as feed additives on the performance of duck livestock was evaluated through a field study. Two hundred and forty ducks (Pekins) aged 0–38 d were used. They were randomly assigned to four treatment groups (0%, 1% H. cordata powder with fermented red koji, 1% H. cordata pelleted with fermented red koji, and 1% H. cordata coated with fermented red koji) with four replicates (15 ducks per replication). Foreconomic evaluation, the data (a total of 240 duck) obtained from each treatment were applied to 10,000 ducks per treatment 38-d after the feeding trial. Overall, the results of economic evaluation were the highest in the treatment with 1% H. cordata coated with fermented red koji, followed by 1% H. cordatapelleted with fermented red koji, 1% H. cordatapowder with fermented red koji, and control. In conclusion, using 1% H. cordatawith fermented red koji as coating and pellet type duck diets might be of economic advantage for sustainable environmental management.

        This study made an economic evaluation of duck using Houttuynia cordata (H. cordata) powder as feed additives after 6 weeks. A total of 300 ducks (Pekins) were randomly assigned to one of the three treatments (0%, 0.5% and 1% H. cordata powder), with 5 replicates of 20 ducks each. After 6-week feeding trial, an economic improvement in all the treatments was found in following order: T2 (1% H. cordata powder) > T1 (0.5% H. cordata powder) > control. The results suggested that the addition of H. cordata powder to duck diets provided significantly greater economic benefits, indicating sustainable environmental management of the duck industry.

        The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of duck litter in ducks fed diets containing Houttuynia cordata powder. One-day-old ducklings (Pekin) were randomly divided into two groups and fed a control or 1% H. cordata powder-containing diet for an experimental period of three weeks. The results showed that pH for 1–2 weeks and total nitrogen for 1–3 weeks in duck litter were affected by dietary treatments with 1% H. cordata powder (P < 0.05). For Volatile Fatty Acids (VFAs), there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between ducks fed 1% H. cordata and control diets, as shown in the results for acetic acid and propionic acid in duck litter over three weeks; but, this was not the case for propionic acid at 3 weeks. The inclusion of 1% H. cordata powder in the diet had a the positive effect on increasing the total nitrogen and decreasing pH and VFAs in duck litter.

        The objective of this study was to examine quality characteristics of a smoked duck marinated in natural curing agents containing extracts of pear by sugar, celery powder, and vitamin C. We evaluated the composition food additives residue and total plate count, chromaticity, sensory properties, total polyphenol contents, 2,2-Diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging effect of general smoked duck (GSD) and natural smoked duck (NSD). The nitrite ion, antioxidant and sodium glutamate of NSD were not detected. The lightness, yellowness and redness of the two smoked duck decreased significantly as growing longer storage days. The total plate count (CFU/g) of coliform bacteria of two smoked duck were not grown. The sensory properties showed that NSD was higher than GSD in the aspect of taste, texture and overall preferences. The total polyphenol contents and DPPH radical scavenging effect of NSD were higher than those of GSD. These results suggested that it was possible to manufacture a smoked duck marinated in natural curing agents including extracts of pear by sugar, celery powder, and vitamin C for the improvement of safety and quality.

        Ninety ducks (one-day-old Pekins, 45 males and 45 females) were used to evaluate the effects of supplementing diets with Houttuynia cordata powder on the fatty acid profiles of duck breast meat. The ducks were allotted to one of the three treatment diets using a completely randomized design, each treatment-group containing three replicate pens with ten birds each (five of each gender). The experimental diets were: 1) Control (basal diet), 2) T1 (Control+ 1% Houttuynia cordata) and 3) T2 (Control+2% Houttuynia cordata). In spite of significant difference, the addition of Houttuynia cordata resulted in higher unsaturated fatty acid and lower saturated fatty acid contents than in the Control group. However, no remarkable difference was observed between 1% and 2 % Houttuynia cordata groups for fatty acid profiles.

        본 연구에서는 소비자들의 이해를 돕고자 건강에 좋은 육류로 알려져 있는 백색육(오리고기, 닭고기)와 말고기의 식품학적 성분을 비교하여 기초자료를 얻고자 하였다. 말 고기는 저지방 고단백 저콜레스테롤 육류임을 확인할 수 있었으며, 총 아미노산에 대한 필수 아미노산(어린이)의 비율은 말고기의 등심 부위와 닭고기(가슴살)이 유의적으 로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 말고기의 palmitoleic acid의 비율 은 오리고기 및 닭고기에 비해 최대 2.6배 가량, linolenic acid의 비율은 최대 4.1배 가량 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 유의적 차이가 인정되었다. 다가불포화지방산(PUFA)의 비 율은 말고기가 19.13~21.64%로 오리고기 15.81~16.04%, 닭 고기 15.68~15.85%에 비해 유의적으로 높은 것으로 나타났 으며, 필수지방산의 비율이 19.08~21.59%로 오리고기 15.71~15.91%, 닭고기 15.50~15.69%보다 유의적으로 높았 다. 무기성분 함량은 K, P, Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, Fe의 순이었으며[백색육(다리살) 제외], 말고기의 Fe 및 Zn의 함량이 백색육 (오리고기, 닭고기)에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 성분 분석결과는 말고기가 닭고기나 오리고기보다 식품영 양적 가치가 더 우수함을 보여주었다.

        This study was carried out to select new pelleting binder and material for seeds from Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hance and Alnus sibirica Fisch. ex Turcz. The optimum treatments of the various concentrations and species of priming agents to improve seed germination of both woody medicinal plants were also estimated. Germinability was increased when the seeds of Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hance was soaked in -1.0 MPa of PEG6000 solution at 15℃ for 4 days significantly, the optimum treatment for improving germination of Alnus sibirica Fisch. ex Turcz was observed when the tested seeds was soaked in 100 mM of KCl at 15℃ for 4 days. The influence of physical and chemical properties of pelleting solid materials, the mixture of gypsum, diatomaceous earth, dalma ceramic and vermicuolite (6:1:1:1 ratio) were found as the best pelleting materials for Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hance and Alnus sibirica Fisch. ex Turcz. seeds. To satisfy the requirements of absorption and compatibility for multi-layer seed pelleting, SGPA (Starch-grafted cross-linked polyacrylates) hydrogel was prepared using starch, acrylonitrile, ceric ammonium nitrate, nitric acid, methyl alcohol and potassium hydroxide. The resulting SGPA hydrogel showed high water absorption but not plant compatibility. It suggested that seed pelleting using pelleting materials and SGPA hydrogel (multi-layer coating) after priming agent treatment is to increase germinability and seedling growth and it can reduced irrigation labours and can also save seed.

        오리농법에 있어서 오리 주간방사에 대한 유효성을 명확히 구명하고자, 오리를 주간 12시간 (07:00-19:00) 논 방사후 야간에는 간이휴식장으로 재수용하는 주간방사구와 주야 24시간 연속방사하는 종일방사구의 2 시험구로 구분하고, 논 방사시간에 따른 오리의 성장과 행동유형, 관개수의 pH 및 용존산소농도, 벼 생육과 수량성에 대하여 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 오리 방사시간에 따른 오리의 체중은 주간방사구와 종일 방사구간에 큰 차이는 없었으며, 오리 행동유형에서 논내 채식행동과 날개다듬기 행동 및 노동행동은 주간방사구에서 현저하게 증가하였다. 2.주간 12시간(07:00-19:00)동안 오리의 논내 체류시간은 두 시험구간에 거의 유사한 수준을 보였고, 주간방사구 오리의 1일 논내 총 체류시간은 종일방사구 오리의 1/3정도인 것으로 나타났다. 3. 관개수의 pH와 용존산소농도는 종일방사구보다 주간방사 구에서 다소 높은 값을 보였지만, 시험구간에 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 4. 벼 초장은 오리방사 1개월 이후 종일방사구에서 유의적으로 길게 나타났고, 분얼수는 오리방사초기에서 종료시까지 종일방사구에서 현저한 증가를 보였다. 5. 벼 지상부의 건물중량은 출수기에 종일방사구에서 유의적인 증가를 보인 반면, 뿌리의 건물중량은 어느 생육단계에 있어서도 시험구간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 6. 벼 수량성에 있어서, 영화수는 종일방사구에서 현저하게 증가한 반면, 방숙율은 주간방사구에서 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 그러나 10a당 벼 정조수량은 시험구간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 오리 방사시간은 오리성장과 관개수의 pH 및 용존산소농도 변화에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 주간방사구 오리의 논내 채식과 노동행동은 현저한 증가를 보였다. 또한 오리 방사시간에 따른 벼 초장, 분얼수, 영화수 및 등숙율의 변화를 볼 수 있었으나, 정조수량에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 사료되었다. 따라서, 주간 12시간 논 방사하는 오리의 주간방사는 종일방사와 거의 유사한 효과가 있음이 시사되었다.

        논 방사오리에 의한 중경탁수가 관개수의 pH, 용존산소농도 및 토양의 이화학적 성질에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 오리 방사논에서 벼 50포기를 완전무작위로 선발한 후, 각 1포기씩에 대해 원통형 철망을 둘러치는 방법에 의해 오리에 의한 중경탁수만 유입될 수 있도록 설치한 중경탁수구(이하, 탁수구)와 오리 무방사의 대조구로 구분하고, 관개수의 pH, 용존산소농도 및 토양의 이화학적 성질 등에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 오리 방사기간 중, 관개수의 pH는 대조구에 비해 탁수구에서 변동폭이 작고, pH7.4 전후의 높은 수준에서 추이하였다. 2. 용존산소농도는 오리 방사초기에 대조구보다 탁수구에서 유의적으로 낮은 수치를 보였으나(P<0.01), 그 이후는 두 시험구 모두 벼 생육이 진전됨에 따라 급속히 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 3. 관개수의 부유물질농도 및 탁도는 대조구보다 탁수구에서 유의적으로 높았고(P<0.01),오리 방사기간 중 큰 변화 없이 거의 일정한 수준을 나타내었다. 4. 관개수의 무기성분 함량에 있어서 P2O5 함량은 대조구에 비해 탁수구에서 유의적으로 낮았으나(P<0.05), 그 이외의 성분에서는 두 시험구간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 5. 토양의 이화학적 성질은 오리 방사기간 중 및 방사종료 후 모두 어느 성분에 있어서도 두 시험구간에 큰 차이는 없었으나, 오리 방사기간 중 보다 방사종료 후에서 다소 높게 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 오리에 의한 중경탁수는 관개수의 pH 변동폭을 줄이고, 용존산소농도 및 P2O5 함량을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 토양의 이화학적 성질에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 시사되었다, Daeyabyeo, Hwamyeongbyeo, 방eongsanbyeo, Dongjinbyeo) and two medium maturing cultivays (Donghaebyeo, Gumobyeo2). The rest cultivars were tore off by 1/10∼1/2 ELL. In yield components, the longer was flag leaf damage, the lower was ripened grain ratio, grain weight and brown/rough rice ratio, which was severly impacted to late than to ordinary season cultivation. However, rice yield did not decrease up to tearing by 1/10 ELL. Head rice ratio decreased from flag leaf tearing over 1/10 ELL in late season cultivation.         The duck-rice farming system is increasingly spread up throughout Korea since 1992. It is discussed the rice yield, rice quality, weed and pest management in the duck-rice weeding system compared to conventional farming system. Moreover the optimizing duck population, system management and fertilizer application rate were reported. Energy input and output by duck-rice farming system were carefully compared with those of low input sustainable paddy field and conventional farming paddy field. To find out the environmentally sound function of duck-rice system, the total nitrogen in paddy soil and paddy water, and nitrogen cycle in paddy rice cultivation system were analysed. Finally the input and output were calculated, and ecological characteristic were determined in terms of nitrogen balance, labor input, animal input, renewable energy input, turnover of soil organic matter, energy loss, non-renewable indirect and direct energy input. It was concluded duck-rice weeding system could be recommended in terms of not only environmentally sound, but also farmer"s income. But there are still some research needs for successful adaption of duck-rice farming to investigate to determine the optimal population of duck in rice paddy field unit, release time of duckling, duck management after release, and strategy for duck marketing and duck processing.

        헛개 나무 추출물과 오리나무 추출물들이 쥐 와 사람을 대상으로 실험한 결과 체내 알콜 분해능이있는 것으로 나타났으며, 쥐 실험의 경우 헛개 나무가 32% 의 알콜 분해능이 증진되었으며 오리나무는 13% 정도로 나타났으며 혼합물인 경우 42% 의 높은 것으로 나타났다. 사람을 대상으로 한 경우도 유사한 경향을 보여 혼합물을 섭취한 경우 4 시간만에 음주 전 알콜 농도로 감소했으나 오리나무는 6 시간에도 0.013% 정도의 알콜이 존재했다. 또한 헛개나무는 6 간 정도 후에 정상 치로 감소된 반면 알콜만 섭취한 경우는 6 시간이 되도 0.04% 의 알콜이 존재하고 있어 이 추출물들이 정도의 차이는 있으나 알콜 분해 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 간의 해독 증진 및 숙취 해소 기능에서도 혼합물, 헛개 나무, 오리나무 순으로 활성이 좋은 것으로 확인되었다. ADH 효소의 활성의 경우 혼합물의 경우 약 60% 정도 증진되는 것으로 나타났으나 헛개 나무의 경우 35.6% 로 상승되었으며는 것이 확인되었다. 하지만 오리나무의 경우는 약 29% 정도로 별 차이가 없는 것으로 측정되었다. GST 활성 증진의 경우 혼합물을 1 g/L의 농도로 투여해 실험한 결과 최대 180% 의 활성 증진이 가능한 것으로 측정되었다. 이에 비해 각 추출물들이 단독으로 작용하는 경우에 는 유사한 활성 증진을 보여 혼합물의 경우 간의 해독 작용 증진에 synergy 효과가 있을 것으로 예측된다. Cathepsin 활성 저해의 경우 역시 혼합물이 55 % 이상 활성 억제 효과를 보였으며 헛개 나무가 약 40%의 억제 기능을 나타냈다. 하지만 오리나무의 경우는 28% 정도의 낮은 억제 효과를 보였다. 이는 오리나무 추출물은 ADH 효소 활성 증진이나 cethepsin 효소 억제 기능이 아닌 다른 기작에 의해 알콜 분해 및 간 기능 증진에 영향을 주는 것으로 예측된다. 모든 경우 다 혼합물이 여러 활성 효과가 높은 것으로 나타나 이 혼합물을 이용한 기능성 식품 개발이 유용할 것으로 평가된다.
