        ‘Nokwoo’, a mid-late maturing, high dry matter yielding rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar with a good early growth and low-temperature germinability, was developed for whole crop silage (WCS) use. It was derived from a cross between a leafy tropical japonica ‘LK1A-2-12-1-1’ with high biomass and good germinability in low temperature and new plant type (NPT), ‘IR72225-29-1-1’ which had low tillering trait, large panicle, dark green leaf, thick and sturdy stem and vigorous root system. This cultivar had about 123 days growth period from seeding to heading, 122㎝ culm length, 29㎝ panicle length, 9 panicles per hill, 144 spikelets per panicle and 1,000-grain weight of 24.4 g as brown rice in central plain region, Suwon. This wide and long leafy WCS rice variety was weak to cold stresses similar to ‘Nokyang’ but was a little resistant to lodging in the field, strong to viviparous germination and good to low temperature germination. In addition, ‘Nokwoo’ was resistant to leaf and neck blast but susceptible to bacterial blight, rice stripe virus and brown planthopper. Its average dry matter yield for three years reached 16.5 MT/ha, 14% higher than that of ‘Nokyang’. This cultivar had 5.3% crude protein and 68.8% total digestible nutrients a little low compared to ‘Nokyang’. In Korea peninsular, ‘Nokwoo’ grows well in central and southern plain and is good to harvest between 15 to 30 days after heading to improve its feeding value and digestion rate of livestock (Grant No. 6072).

        ‘Jungmo1038', a mid-late maturing, high dry matter yielding rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar with glabrous leaf and hull, was developed for whole crop silage (WCS) use. It was derived from a cross between ‘SR24592-HB2319’ with high biomass, smooth leaf and hull and good germinability in low temperature and new plant type (NPT), ‘IR73165-B-6-1-1‘ which had low tillering trait, large panicle, dark green leaf, thick and sturdy stem and vigorous root system. This cultivar had about 125 days growth period from seeding to heading, 99㎝ culm length, 20㎝ panicle length, 13 panicles per hill, 119 spikelets per panicle and 1,000-grain weight of 23.3 g as brown rice in central plain region, Suwon. This hairless WCS rice variety was weak to cold stresses similar to ‘Nokyang’ but was resistant to lodging in the field, strong to viviparous germination and good to low temperature germination. In addition, ‘Jungmo1038’ was resistant to leaf and neck blast but susceptible to bacterial blight, rice stripe virus and brown planthopper. Its average dry matter yield for three years reached 17.2 MT/ha, 21% higher than that of ‘Nokyang’. This glabrous cultivar had 6.6% crude protein and 62.4% total digestible nutrients a little low compared to ‘Nokyang’. In Korea peninsular, 'Jungmo1038' grows well in central and southern plain and is good to harvest between 15 to 30 days after heading to improve its feeding value and digestion rate of livestock(Grant No. 5634).

        ‘Jungmo1029’, a late-maturing, high biomass and multiple disease resistant rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar, was developed for whole crop silage (WCS) use. It was derived from a cross between ‘Gillim collection1’ with high biomass and ‘Junam’ which has some of diseases resistant genes. This elite cultivar had about 127 days growth period from seeding to heading, 105 cm culm length, 11 panicles per hill, 163 spikelets per panicle and 1,000-grain weight of 21.5 g as brown rice. This WCS rice variety was weak to cold stresses similar to ‘Nokyang’ but was tolerant to lodging in the field. In addition, ‘Jungmo1029’ was resistant to leaf and neck blast, bacterial blight except race K3a and rice stripe virus but susceptible to brown planthopper. Its average dry matter yield for three years reached 17.1 MT/ha, 14% higher than that of ‘Nokyang’. This stay green cultivar had good quality for WCS with low acid detergent fiber and high total digestible nutrients similar to ‘Nokyang’.‘Jungmo1029’ was suitable for cultivation in the central and southern plain area of the South Korean peninsula and required to harvest 15~30 days after heading to improve the digestibility of cattle (Registration No. 5104).

        연구는 간척지에서 사료용벼를 재배하여 조사료를 생 산함으로써 간척지 이용률 증진과 조사료생산의 두가지 가 능성을 검토해보고자 일반답과 간척답에서 사료용벼를 재 배하여 생육특성, 총체수량 및 사료가치 등을 조사하였다. 1. 출수기는 일반답에서 8월15일에서 8월30일, 간척답에 서 8월14일에서 8월 29일이었으며, 간척답이 일반답 보다 1~2일 빨랐으며, 목우는 일반답에서 8월 26일, 간 척답에서 8월 27일로 수원 544호를 제외하고는 가장 늦었다. 2. 초장은 일반답에서 105~135 cm범위이었고, 간척답에 서 97~126 cm범위였으며 일반답에서는 목양이 간척 답에서는 수원544호가 가장 컸다. 주당경수는 일반답 과 간척답 모두 녹양이 16개로 가장 많았고 총체수량 은 일반답은 15.26~23.24 MT ha-1, 간척답은 11.94~18.89 MT ha-1범위이었으며 목우벼가 두지역에서 가장 많이 생산되었다. 각품종별 수량은 일반답에 비하여 78~84% 수준이었다. 3. 단백질 함량은 일반답에서는 녹양벼가 높았으나 간척 답에서는 6.7~8.7%로서 상대적으로 낮은 수치를 보였 고 목양벼가 8.7%로 가장 높았다. 각 품종별 NDF는 31.2~55.5% 수준을 나타냈으며 ADF는 일반답에 비 하여 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으며 가소화 양분총량을 계산해본 결과 일반답에서 목우벼가 71.2%로 가장 높 았고 전체적으로 60%이상의 함량을 보여 간척지에서 재배하여도 사료로서의 가치는 충분할 것으로 생각되 었다. 4. TDN수량을 비교해본 결과 일반답에서 TDN수량은 목우벼가 16.54 MT ha-1로 가장 높았으며 간척답에서 도 12.69 MT ha-1 로 가장 높은 수량을 보였다. 5. 이상의 결과로 간척지에서 사료용벼를 재배할 경우 일 반답에 비하여 80%정도의 수량을 보여 간척지에서 재 배가능성을 확인하였으며 목우를 재배할 경우 수량 및 사료가치면에서 가장 좋을 것으로 생각된다.

        ‘목양’은 국립식량과학원 벼 육종연구진이 총체 사료용 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 2001년 하계에 SR24592-HB2319 를 모본으로 하고 신초형 IR73165-B-6-1-1을 부본으로 교배 하여 계통육종법으로 육성한 품종으로 2010년 12월 농작물 직무육성신품종선정위원회에서 국가목록등재품종으로 선정 됨과 동시에 ‘목양’으로 명명하였다. ‘목양’의 출수기는 보통 기 재배에서 8월 23일로 ‘녹양’보다 8일 정도 늦은 만생종이 다. ‘목양’은 도열병, 줄무늬잎마름병, 오갈병에는 ‘녹양’보다 강하지만, 흰잎마름병, 벼멸구에는 약한 편이다. ‘목양’은 ‘녹 양’보다 탈립에 강하고, 후기녹체성이 우수하였다. ‘목양’은 가소화양분총량(TDN) 함량이 높고 중성세제불용섬유소(NDF) 와 산성세제불용섬유소(ADF)가 낮았다. ‘목양’의 총체수량은 지역적응시험에서 2008년부터 2010년까지 평균 17.7 MT/ha 로 ‘녹양’보다 25% 증수하는 경향을 보였다. ‘목양’은 가소화 양분총량(TDN)은 59.5%였으며 ADF와 NDF가 낮아 상대적 사료가치가 ‘녹양’에 비해 높은 품종이다. ‘목양’의 정조 수량은 보통기 재배에서 5.59 MT/ha로 ‘녹 양’보다 16% 증수되었다. 재배적지는 중부 및 남부평야지 1 모작 지대이다.

        This experiment was conducted to obtain basic a information on feed value and fermentative quality of whole crop barley with different harvesting time and making method. As a result, in case of feed value, crude protein, NDF and ADF content were decreased with late harvest, but TDN was increased. In the silage, the results were similar and these patterns showed the same before and after the silage making. Thus, there was no significantly difference in bale and chopper. In case of fermentative quality, pH of the silages showed increasing with late harvesting time but the contents of organic acid did lower, and those tendencies were the same in both bale and chopper condition. But the lactic acid content were approximately 23 percent higher in chopped condition. In conclusion, ensiling at yellow ripe stage is better than other stages, chopped ensiling could improve fermentation quality.

        Breeding the whole crop siliage rice cultivar basically requires priority in high biomass and grain yield and tolerance biotic and abiotic stresses. In this context, AA genome wild rices are potential resources to broaden genetic variability for whole crop silage cultivar. We have developed several introgression populations from crosses with three AA genome wild rices, O.glaberrima, O.rufipogon, and O.longistamina. Among these populations, the three BC4F8 near isogenic lines (NILs) derived from a cross of Milyang 23 and O.glaberrima(acc. 101154) could produce the high-yielding lines surpassing Milyang 23 by 20% in grain yield. Introgression lines from crosses with 4 accessions of O.rufipogon with japonica rices, Hwaseongbyeo and Ilpumbyeo had huge agronomic variability and very tall and vigorous lines possessing culm length of 125 ∼ 187cm were selected as promising potential parents to improve biomass of existing cultivars. These selections with high yield potential and biomass will be crossed to create another gene pool to combine high yield and biomass and anther culture breeding could be useful to develop genetically fixed F2 lines with both traits.

        녹양'은 초다수 총체사료용 벼 품종을 육성하기 위하여 1996년 하계에 국제미작연구소에서 다수성인 용문벼를 모본으로하고 신초형 IR67396-16-3-3-1을 부본으로 교배하여 계통육종법에 의하여 육성한 품종으로, 2006년 12월에 직무육성신픔종선정위원회에서 국가목록등재품종으로 선정됨과 동시에 '녹양'으로 명명하였으며, 지역적응시험 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. '녹양'의 출수기는 보통기 재배에서 8월16일로 '다산벼' 보다 5일 정도 늦은 중만생종이다.

        A new whole crop silage barley cultivar, “oungyang” was developed from the cross between “unong and Milyang55 at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2002. An elite line, YB3882-3B-17-1-3-1, was selected in 1999 and designated as “ilyang111” It showed good agronomic performance in the regional adaptation yield trials (RYT) from 2000 to 2002 and was released by the name of “oungyang”with higher yield and better animal feed quality than that of Olbori. The average heading and maturing dates of Youngyang were May 2 and June 6, which were late by 2 & 1 days than those of Olbori, respectively, in Suwon. Youngyang had longer culm length, 83cm but it had lesser spikes per m2 637 than that of Olbori, respectively, in RYT from 2000 to 2002. The rate of leaf sheath/whole length (culm+leaf) and the rate of the grains/ whole crop weight was similar to Olbori. It showed resistance to BaYMV at the regions of Naju, Jinju, Milyang andt Iksan. however, the response of Youngyang to other environmental stresses (tolerance of cold and wet) was similar to Olbori. The dried whole crop yield potential of Youngyang in the RYT was about 11.67 MT/ha in paddy fields which was about 18% higher than that of Olbori. The grain yield potential was 6.32 MT/ha in paddy fields which was about 5% higher than that of Olbori. Youngyang had lower rate of shattering, higher content of protein and NDF, lower ADF and TDN, and better quality of silage than those of Olbori.
