        Species composition and seasonal variation of aquatic organism at Baekryeong-do, Korea were investigated using pots in 2016. A total of 42 species, 90,050 individuals and 2,351,666 g of aquatic organism were collected. Among them, there were 12 species and 3,826 individuals of fish, 15 species and 51,237 individuals of crustaceans, 2 species and 54 individuals of cephalopods, 7 species and 33,981 individuals of gastropods, 2 species and 757 individuals of echinodea, 2 species and 187 individuals of shellfish, and 1 species and 8 individuals of holothuroidea. The dominant species in number of individuals were Pagurus ochotensis, Neptunea cuming, Cancer gibbosulus, and Buccinum yokomaruae, which accounted for 70.0% of the total number individuals collected. The dominant species in biomass were Neptunea cuming, Portunus trituberculatus, Cancer gibbosulus, and Pagurus ochotensis, which accounted for 65.3% of the total biomass collected.

        In this study, total mercury (THg) variations of Black-tailed Gull (Larus crassirostris) eggs laid on Baengnyeongdo, West Sea of Korea were compared between within- and among clutch in order to ensure statistical representativeness of an egg sampling method. In the ANOVA analysis, the THg variation (59%) among clutches was much higher than within-clutch (27%). This means that the mercury variation of sampled eggs was significantly influenced by the mercury variation among female individuals occupying different nests. In spite of relatively smaller variation of THg in the within-clutch, the THg concentration depending on an egg-laying sequence within a clutch significantly appeared higher in the first-laid eggs rather than the second-laid eggs. Therefore, it is necessary to take one egg from one nest in order to sample more nests in terms of better sampling representativeness. Also, one egg selection from one nest should be consistently applied in order to ensure comparability of mercury concentrations among monitoring sites and monitoring years.

        백령도와 연평도의 곤충상 조사결과, 통나방과 (나비목: 뿔나방상과)의 11종이 서해안지역에서는 처음으로 기록되었다. 그 중 Coleophora adjunctella Hodgkinson, C. chenopodii Oku, 그리고 C. kurokoi Oku는 한반도에서 처음으로 기록되는 종으로 이들 종 동정에 필요한 성충과 암컷 생식기 사진을 함께 기재한다.

        The purpose of this study was to identify the determinants of traditional food perception, by taking the generation effect into account. This study also analyzed the preference patterns of traditional snacks and the strength as well as direction of improvement for traditional foods. Data were collected from 304 housewives living in the Baeong-Nyeong-Do island. Regression analysis showed that the determinants of traditional food perception varied depending on the generation of housewives. In the 30s age subgroup, income and family type were significantly related with the degree of traditional food perception. In the 40s age subgroup, household income, education, and hometown location were significant, whereas household income, family type, number of years of life spent in the Baeong-Nyeong-Do island, hometown location were the significant factors in the 50s and 60s age subgroup. The results of factor analysis showed that there were three preference patterns of traditional snacks. The results of chi-square analysis proved that foods for strength, and direction of improvement for traditional foods were different among the generation groups. In this article, similarities and differences between determinants of traditional foods, the strength and direction of improvement for traditional foods are discussed, and their implications for nutritionists as well as food marketers are provided.

        Baengnyeongdo, located within the Asian dust stream, is an ideal place to analyze Asian dust moving into the West Sea due to its low emission of artificial pollutants. Baengnyeongdo is being used to analyze the vertical distribution of dust from the lower atmosphere to the upper layer through remote observation. This study compared the ground concentration of dust between Baengnyeongdo and the metropolitan area, estimated the lag time of transport of Asian dust from Baengnyeongdo to the metropolitan area, and examined the homogeneity of upper winds using the rawinsonde method. The results showed that the cross correlation coefficient was higher and the lag time was shorter for each observation station when the distance from Baengnyeongdo was shorter. The upper wind at Baengnyeongdo is dominated by the west/northwest wind. It is the basis for the correlation of dust concentration between Baengnyeongdo and the metropolitan area located to the east. In the future, upper wind data and Asian dust concentration data over the West Sea and Baengnyeongdo are expected to contribute to research related to the movement and prediction of Asian dust and preparation for Asian dust in the metropolitan area.

        This study has set up a plan to establish a trail as a means of maximizing a community by using the residents' living materials and unused facilities that a village holds now. A local archive is a place where the records and living materials collected from a village are preserved, displayed and shared with others, serving as a complex space with multiple functions. To apply the idea of 'utilizing a local archive', the empirical study was conducted by making an analysis of trail resources of Baekryeong Island and local archive application resources. Local archive resources were selected through evaluation of connection of trail routes by investigating and discovering the unused facilities of Baekryeong Island village and the depreciation level and scale of them. And actual local archive living references were investigated and collected through in-depth interviews of villagers. Also, through planning of trails by region, limitations of investigation activities were improved and various tangible and intangible resources owned by Baekryeong Island were utilized to enable effective and distinctive investigation activities and experiences. Unused facilities were surveyed and chosen to take advantage of the local archive space, along with in-depth interviews with the residents living in Baekryeong Island. In addition, the current conditions for the trail routes were checked out in order to 'point out the final routes'.

        본 연구는 백령도의 관속식물을 밝히고 주요 식물들의 분포를 조사하였다. 2011년 8월부터 2012년 11월까지 총 5회에 걸쳐 수행되었다. 그 결과 관속식물은 124과 411속 647종 8아종 68변종 7품종 2교잡종으로 총 732분류군이 확인되었으며, 처음으로 밝혀진 분류군은 193분류군이었다. 이 중 환경부 지정 멸종위기야생식물은 2분류군, 한국 고유종 8분류군, 식물구계학적 특정식물 78분류군, 희귀식물 20분류군이 조사되었다. 또한 남 북방계식물 30분류군, 염생식물 43분류군이 발견되었다. 귀화식물은 92분류군으로 확인되었으며, 귀화율은 12.5%로 나타났다.

        백령도와 보은 지역의 마이오세 알칼리현무암에 상부맨틀암석인 스피넬 페리도타이트가 포획되어 있다. 이들 포획체 내의 단사휘석의 모드 조성과 주성분원소, 미량원소, 희토류원소 조성은 백령도와 보은 지역의 상부맨틀의 평형 온도와 맨틀결핍, 맨틀부화와 같은 지화학적 과정들을 규명하는 매우 중요하다. 원생입상조직과 반상쇄설조직 사이의 전이 조직을 보이는 백령도와 보은 스피넬 페리도타이트의 평형온도는 15 kb 압력에서 각각 773∼1188℃와 705∼1106℃이다. 단사휘석의 Y, Yb 성분은 백령도와 보은 스피넬 페리도타이트가 각각 1~10%와 1∼4%의 부분용융을 받았고, 단사휘석의 LREE 부화 패턴은 이들 지역 상부맨틀이 은폐 맨틀교대작용을 받았음을 지시한다.
