        Understanding the behavior of soil under cyclic loading conditions is essential for assessing its response to seismic events and potential liquefaction. This study investigates the effect of non-plastic fines content (FC) on excess pore pressure generation in medium-density sand-silt mixtures subjected to strain-controlled cyclic direct simple shear (CDSS) tests. The investigation is conducted by analyzing excess pore pressure (EPP) ratios and the number of cycles to liquefaction (Ncyc-liq) under varying shear strain levels and FC values. The study uses Jumunjin sand and silica silt with FC values ranging from 0% to 40% and shear strain levels of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.5%, and 1.0%. The findings indicate that the EPP ratio increases rapidly during loading cycles, with higher shear strain levels generating more EPP and requiring fewer cycles to reach liquefaction. At 1.0% and 0.5% shear strain levels, FC has a limited effect on Ncyc-liq. However, at a lower shear strain level of 0.2%, increasing FC from 0 to 10% reduces Ncyc-liq from 42 to 27, and as FC increases further, Ncyc-liq also increases. In summary, this study provides valuable insights into the behavior of soil under cyclic loading conditions. It highlights the significance of shear strain levels and FC values in excess pore pressure generation and liquefaction susceptibility.

        췌석은 만성췌장염에서 흔히 동반되는 소견으로 반복되는 복통과 췌장염의 원인이 될 수 있다. 췌석은 췌관 협착과 자주 동반되고 췌관내 박혀 있는 경우가 많아 바스켓을 이용하여 제거하기 어렵다. 체외충격파쇄석술(ESWL)로 치료하기도 하나 반복 시술이 필요하고 성공률도 높지 않았다. 최근에 개발된 SpyGlass™ DS II (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA)는 직경이 3.5 mm로 가늘어 췌관이 확장되어 있을 때 안으로 삽입이 가능하게 되었다. 그리고 직접 췌석을 보면서 전기수압쇄석술(EHL)이나 레이저 유도 쇄석술(laser lithotripsy)를 시행하며 췌석을 제거해 볼 수 있게 되었다. 본고에서는 SpyGlass™ DS II와 EHL을 이용하여 10 mm 이상의 다발성 췌석을 제거하는 방법을 소개하고자 한다.

        In this study, we propose a flow velocity evaluation scheme based on pressure measurement in pressurized pipeline systems. Conservation of mass and momentum equations can be decomposed into mean and perturbation of pressure head and flowrate, which provide the pressure head and flowrate relationship between upstream and donwstream point in pressurized pipeline system. The inverse impedance formulations were derived to address measured pressure at downstream to evaluation of flow velocity or pressure at any point of system. The convolution of response function to pressure head in downstream valve provides the flow velocity response in any point of the simple pipeline system. Simulation comparison between traditional method of characteristics and the proposed method provide good agreements between two distinct approaches.

        In actual seawater desalination plant, the pressure loss due to frictional force of pipe is about 3~5 bar. Also, the pressure loss at pipe connection about 1~3 bar. Therefore, the total pressure loss in the pipe is expected to be about 4~8 bar, which translates into 0.111 to 0.222 kWh/m3 of energy when converted into the Specific Energy Consumption(SEC). Reducing energy consumption is the most important factor in ensuring the economics of seawater desalination processes, but pressure loss in piping is often not considered in plant design. It is difficult to prevent pressure loss due to friction inside the pipe, but pressure loss at the pipe connection can be reduced by proper pipe design. In this study, seawater desalination plant piping analysis was performed using a commercial network program. The pressure loss and SEC for each case were calculated and compared by seawater desalination plant size.

        The straight nanopores in cellulose acetate (CA) polymers for battery gel separators were generated by utilizing both Ni(NO3)2·6H2O and water pressure. When polymer film was exposed to water pressure, the continuous nanopores were generated after complexing with Ni(NO3)2·6H2O. These results could be explained by that polymer chains were weakened because of the plasticization effect of the Ni(NO3)2·6H2O incorporated into the CA. The well controlled CA membrane after water pressure treatment enabled fabrication of highly reliable cell by utilizing 2032-type coin cell structure. The resulting cell performance exhibited both the effect of the physical morphology of CA separator and the chemical interaction of electrolyte with CA polymer which facilitates the Li-ion in the cell.

        Geotextile tubes are excellent design strategies for both shoreline protection and dewatering of fine materials. A difficulty with regard to designing geotextile tubes is the matching of the appropriate fabric with the site-specific infilled material and the unavailability of a test to determine the soil-geotextile consolidation properties. Existing methods simulate and predict the final tube shape based on the initial and final unit weights of the infill but the time required to reach the final shape or the compatibility of the infill are not being considered. This study proposes an improved hanging bag test to evaluate the compatibility of an infill with the geotextile fabric, and at the same time, to obtain the soil-geotextile consolidation properties. With the obtained consolidation properties, a big prototype simulation was possible, explaining the deformation behavior of the tube in the field. An analytical procedure used in modeling the tube was coupled with the large strain consolidation theory to simulate the filling and dewatering process.

        Composite columns are increasingly used due to the construction of super-tall buildings and large-scale buildings. Studies on the shapes of and construction technologies for structural members using steel tubes are being conducted actively. Welded built-up CFT columns previously developed and commercialized by the authors of this study (ACT-1 columns) are structurally stable and economically efficient. However, the 1m limit in the width of the columns and their small interior spaces impose a difficulty in installing reinforcing materials and thus deteriorate the ease and efficiency with which they are constructed. This study suggests placing thick plates at the centers of the surfaces of the existing ACT-1 column and installing a binding frame (binding frames) at the central thick plates to enhance the integrity and resist lateral pressure caused by concrete casting. Finite element analysis was conducted with the variables of the number and cross-sectional size of the binding frame and the cross-sectional size of the steel tube to estimate the structural behavior of the steel tubes. Hydraulic tests were conducted to analyze load-displacement relations and identify the influence of the binding frames on the relations. The variables in the tests were the number and cross-sectional size of the binding frame, welding details, column joint and the cross-sectional size of the steel tube

        Pressure monitoring is expected to be expanded in a water distribution system according to accelerated development of smart water network management technologies caused by appearances of affordable digital infrastructures like computing, storage and bandwidth. However, the placement of pressure sensors has been determined by engineer’s technical decisions since there is no well-defined criteria for deciding a suitable location of pressure sensor. This study presents a placement method of pressure sensors based on the consideration of allowable error in calibrating water network analysis modeling. The proposed method is to find a minimum set of pressure sensors for achieving a reliable management of water transmissions main and increasing the efficiency of their real-time operation. In the case study in Y area’s transmission main, the proposed method shows equally distributed pressure sensors in terms of hydraulics. It is expected that the proposed method can be used to manage transmission mains stably and construct a robust real-time network analysis system as a minimal criteria.

        정삼투막 성능 예측에는 Solution-diffusion model이 지배적으로 활용되어 왔으나, 기존 연구에서 수압과 삼투압이 동시에 작용하는 가압형 정삼투 공정에 대한 예측정확도가 감소하며, 이를 위해 수압이 투과성능에 미치는 영향을 convection과 diffusion을 동시에 고려해야한다는 연구결과가 보고되었다. 본 연구에서는 CTA-ES 및 PA-TFC 정삼투막을 이용하였으며, 활성층 측에는 NaCl 용액을, 지지층 측에는 증류수를 주입하고, 활성층 측에 삼투압과 동일한 수압을 가하여 농도변화에 따른 수투과도 및 염투과도의 변화양상을 평가하였다.

        A simple method for generating pores in a cellulose acetate (CA) polymer matrix was developed using a combination of an ionic liquid and water pressure treatment. A porous CA membrane was successfully prepared using the ionic liquid (BMIM-BF4) and subsequent water pressure treatment. Pores were generated in the CA polymer matrix when the CA/ionic liquid composite was subjected to water pressure. The characteristics of the thus-generated porous membrane were evaluated using porosimetry. FT-IR and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that when the CA polymer was subjected to water pressure, most of the BMIM-BF4 incorporated in the polymer during its preparation was removed, thereby generating the observed pores. In addition, it was observed that the flux varied with water pressure, indicating that the pore size was controllable.

        Two key technologies of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing are recognized to achieve the rapid growth of shale gas production, in specific, in the United States during last decade. The claims between environmentalists and oil companies have been debating in terms of water contamination. Nowadays, voluntary publication of chemicals from shale gas players are available in the website, FracFocus. This paper introduces chemicals that are currently used in hydraulic fracturing process. Among chemicals, guar gum and guar derivatives are dominantly consumed to increase the viscosity of hydrofracking fluids. The role of additional additives, such as breakers and biocides, is presented by explaining how they cut down the molecular structure of guar gum and guar derivatives. In addition, crosslinking agent, pH controller, friction reducer, and water soluble polymers are also presented

        Water discolouration and increased turbidity in the local water service distribution network occurred from hydraulic incidents such as drastic changes of flow and pressure at large consumer. Hydraulic incidents impose extra shear stresses on sediment layers in the network, leading to particle resuspension. Therefore, real time measuring instruments were installed for monitoring the variation of water flow, pressure, turbidity and particulates on a hydrant in front of the inlet point of large apartment complex. In this study, it is attempted to establish a more stable water supply plan and to reduce complaints from customers about water quality in a district metering area. To reduce red or black water, the water flow monitoring and control systems are desperately needed in the point of the larger consumers.

        Using a high-rise building water piping after hydrostatic test of the reliability of the leak to be completed if the pressure is maintained until the leak is not commercially available considered. Due to the nature of high-rise buildings and the construction period will take several years from the lower levels of use of the water supply and fire fighting water pipe construction is in progress, the order of which I do most of the first pipe to the construction and more than three years. So kind of riser pipe is complete, install the valve in the basement by installing an automatic pump to maintain a constant pressure after hydrostatic test and after each floor plumbing piping is complete, the progress of the hydrostatic test without undergoing a separate branch pipe the valve is opened automatically when the number of the pressing pressure of the structure. I kind of do and keep working pressure of pipe until the completion of the construction work to keep the damage to human error when it is intended to prepare. In winter, the frost protection and an alternative to drainage water pipe is damaged or deformed, even if unaware of the finishing work to the building, the use of the damage caused by a leak in a after construction of finish work to be expected. Alternative to reduce this damage if the pressure test without fear of freezing to help maintain long-term commercial pressures may be considered.

        최근 들어 온난화 등의 영향으로 태풍이나 집중호우가 빈번히 발생하고 있으며 이로 인한 산지 도로의 산사태, 토석류, 상향침투수압 등에 의한 인명, 시설물 피해도 극심하게 나타나고 있다. 산지 도로의 상향침투수압은 심각한 포장 파손을 발생시키기도 한다. 산지 측의 높은 지하수위로 인한 상향침투수압을 감소시키기 위해서는 지하배수공법이 매우 효과적 이라고 판단된다. 지하배수 공법을 원활하게 작동하기 위해서는 배수기층이 적합한 투수계수와 지지력을 갖추어야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 적절한 투수성과 지반 지지력을 확보할 수 있는 최적의 배수기층 입도에 대한 연구를 수행하였다.
