        Radioactive wastes that are generated as a result of operating NPPs, contain 63Ni and 59Ni that should be analyzed in accordance with the notice of Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) for the acceptance of Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD). Analyzing 63Ni and 59Ni has few challenges to determine activities of each nuclide in radioactive waste sample that contains both nuclides. As is well known, 63Ni can be analyzed by liquid scintillation counter (LSC) detecting its emitted beta rays, however, beta rays emitted from 59Ni are overlapped on the spectrum. Therefore, to discriminate those two nuclides, spectrum channel should be divided according to its dedicating part of the spectrum. For instance, 59Ni contribute to spectrum channel 30–250, on the other hand, 63Ni contributes to spectrum channel 30–450. In other word, 63Ni solely can be analyzed on the channel from 260 to 450. To analyze both 63Ni and 59Ni using this channel division method, detection efficiency must be measured in advance; efficiency of 63Ni and 59Ni at ch. 30–250, and efficiency of 63Ni at ch. 260–450, then the activity can be calculated using the corresponding efficiency. In this study, for verifying the feasibility of channel division method, 5 simulated samples were prepared with different ratio of 63Ni/59Ni. The ratio varies as 1, 2, 10, 20 and 100 spiking standard source of 63Ni and 59Ni. Each sample was mixed with scintillation cocktail and detected for 90 minutes by LSC (300SL, Hidex) after the stabilization of solutions. As a result, calculated 63Ni activities for all sample were averaged as 97% of spiked activity. However, calculated 59Ni activity were 101%, 103%, 128%, 140%, 260%, respectively. The result indicates that 59Ni cannot be discriminated by channel division method when it exists in the sample with high 63Ni over 10 times then 59Ni such as radioactive waste sample. However, the results also show that the channel division method for analyzing 63Ni activity was successful verifying it can determine the activity of 63Ni regardless of the affect of 59Ni on the spectrum.

        In order to indirectly evaluate the inventory of difficult-to-measure (DTM) nuclides in radioactive waste, the scaling factor method by key nuclide has been used. It has been usually applied to low-and intermediate-level dry active waste (DAW), and the tolerance of 1,000% margin of error in the US, that is the factor of 10, is applied as an allowable confidence limits considering the inhomogeneity of the waste and the limitation of sample size. This is because the scaling factor method is based on economic efficiency. Confidence limits is the uncertainty (sampling error) according to predicting the mean value of the population by the mean value of the sample at 95% confidence level, reflecting the limitations of sample size (representation) with the standard deviation. If the standard deviation is large, the sample size can be increased to satisfy the allowable confidence limits. In the new nuclear power plants, the concentration of cesium nuclide (137Cs) in radioactive waste tends to be very low due to advances in nuclear fuel and reactor core management technology, which makes it very difficult to apply cesium as a key nuclide. In addition, it is inevitable to apply the mean activity concentration method, which reasonably and empirically derives the concentration of DTM nuclides regardless of key nuclide, when the correlation between key and DTM nuclides is not significant. The mean activity method is a methodology that applies the average concentration of a sample set to the entire population, and is similar to applying the average concentration ratio between key and DTM nuclides of a sample set to the population in the scaling factor method. Therefore, in this paper, the maximum acceptable uncertainty (confidence limits) at a reasonable level was studied when applying the mean activity concentration method by arithmetic mean unlike the scaling factor method which usually uses the geometric mean method. Several measures were proposed by applying mutatis mutandis the acceptable standard deviation in radiation measurement and the factor of 10 principle, etc., and the appropriateness was reviewed through case analysis.

        Evodiae Fructus is the dried unripe fruit of Evodia rutaecarpa, and has traditionally been used for treating stomachache and diarrhea. Evodiamine and rutaecarpine, the major biologically active compounds of Evodiae Fructus, are reported to have anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as inhibit proliferation and metastasis of various cancer cells. The current study investigates the anti-oxidative and anti-cancer effects of the Evodiae Fructus extract, considering varying concentrations of methanol extraction (40, 80, and 95%). High contents of total phenolic compounds were determined in the order of extracts 80, 95, and 40%. Evaluating contents of the 95, 80, and 40% extracts revealed 36.77, 7.29, and 1.86 μg/mg evodiamine, respectively, and 53.02, 17.16, and 3.79 μg/mg rutaecarpine, respectively, with the highest content of both compounds obtained in the 95% extract. DPPH radical scavenging activity was observed to be inversely proportional to the contents of total phenolic compounds, with decreasing SC50 values obtained in the order 80, 95, and 40% extract. The 95 and 80% extracts exerted toxicity to AGS gastric cancer cells, but the 40% extract was non-toxic. Evodiamine is a known anti-cancer agent, and could be responsible for the observed toxicity. Cleavage of PARP, and Caspase-3, -7, -8 and -9 was observed in the 95% extract-treated AGS cells, indicating that cell toxicity exerted by the 95% extract could be attributed to apoptosis.

        This study investigated the convergence of the QEEG and mood state changes in healthy females from late teens to twenties in relation to the inhalation of peppermint oil (peppermint) in different concentrations (0.1~100%). Brain activity upon stimulation by different concentrations was analyzed based on the RPVs and CVB (%), representing a rate of change compared with the background QEEG. Peppermint showed the effect of relaxation at low concentrations (0.1 and 1%) with increased θ and α waves and decreased β and γ waves. As the concentration of peppermint increases, the α wave decreases, and the θ, β and w waves increase, and there is an arousal effect. Peppermint was rated as having a refreshing, exhilarating, and intense smell. At a low concentration of 0.1%, peppermint chiefly produced a feeling of pleasantness, freshness and refreshment. However, the increase in peppermint concentration resulted in a masculine, exiting, and hard emotional response. As the concentration of peppermint increased, the odor intensity increased in a linearly. The amount of change (ΔSEF50 and ΔSEF90) in edge frequencies closely related to the activation and stress of the brain showed a positive correlation. Odor intensity has a stronger association with ΔSEF90, a stress-related brain wave indicator than with ΔSEF50, a brain activation-related indicator. In addition, both ΔSEF50 and ΔSEF90 showed a positive correlation with APIGF (feelrefreshing average preference index) and a negative correlation with APIAC (Active-Calm average preference) and APIAll (total average preference index). These findings indicate that (1) the correlation between odor intensity and stress and (2) the relationship between emotional and QEEG can be interpreted in terms of brain wave study.

        지적장애아동은 낮은 지적능력으로 인해 주의집중력의 지속시간이 짧으며 정상적인 언어습득과 발달이 어렵다. 그러므로 사회성이 떨어지고 사람과의 유대감을 형성하는 것이 어려울 수 있다. 지적장애아동의 특성을 효과적으로 개선하는 방법에는 동물을 통한 매개 활동이 있다. 동물은 아동과의 상호작용을 통하여 언어능력을 향상 시키고, 인지발달을 촉진시킨다. 그리고 의사소통이나 상호작용이 미숙한 아동에게 동물매개활동은 의사소통 및 자기표현 기술을 습득하는 데 유용하게 작용할 수 있다. 본 연구는 동물매개활동 프로그 램이 지적장애아동의 주의집중력과 언어능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위해 J도 I시 특수 장애 학교에 다니고 있는 만 14세에서 16세인 지적장애아동 3명을 대상자로 선정하였다. 연구는 주 1회, 8주간, 총 16회기 동안 진행하였다. 사전ㆍ사후 검사 도구로는 Harris & Harris(1984)의 집중력 격자판 검사와 수용·표현 어휘력 검사(Receptive and Expressive Vocabulary Test: REVT)를 이용하여 연구 대상자들의 주의집중력과 수용·표현 어휘력의 비교분석을 하였다. 이 연구를 통해 동물매개활동 프로그램이 지적장애아동의 주의집중력과 수용·표현 어휘력을 유의미한 수준으로 향상시켜 주었음을 관찰할 수 있었다.

        This study investigated the convergence of the QEEG and mood state changes in healthy females from teens to twenties on the inhalation of jasmine oil in different concentrations (0.01~100%). Brain activity upon stimulation by different concentrations was analyzed based on the RPVs and CVB, representing a rate of change compared with the background QEEG. The emotions elicited through jasmine were evaluated on a 20-point scale. The result of this evaluation showed that jasmine deactivated fast alpha but activated theta. In addition, it provided evidence for changes in the frequency band according to concentration. As concentration increased, the effect of alpha inhibition decreased, while the effect of inhibition of the high frequency band (20~50 Hz) increased. SEF50 and SEF90, which indicate the state of arousal, decreased as the jasmine concentration increased. Furthermore, it was assessed as having a pleasant, feminine, fresh and soft odor. Therefore, this study suggested that the inhalation of jasmine oil affected brain wave activities and mood states.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of meditation music with lumbar stabilization exercise on balance, concentration and muscle activation. Participants are divided into Group A and Group B. Group A listened to meditation music while doing 4 sets of lumbar stabilization exercise. Group B did not listen to meditation music while doing 4 sets of lumbar stabilization exercise. Surface EMG data was obtained rectus abdominis, external oblique, erector spinae, multifidus muscle during lumbar stabilization exercise. To examine the effect of before-after experiment for concentration and balance, paired t-test was adopted. Changes in EMG data of each muscles were analyzed by independence t-test. There were statistically significant increasing at concentration level and balance level in Group A. But significant difference was not shown in muscle activation. The clinical effect of the meditation music with lumbar stabilization exercise was investigated in this study with more excellent results in concentration and balance. In conclusion, these results suggest that meditation music and lumbar stabilization exercise may be useful in elderly people.

        In this study, we estimated nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations in microenvironments where residential indoor, residential outdoor, other indoors, and transportation using measured personal exposure and multiple linear regression analysis of time-weighted average model, and compared with measured NO2 concentration in microenvironments. Measured residential indoor, outdoor and other indoor NO2 concentration was 22.22±9.59 ppb, 23.64±9.62 ppb, and 22.07±13.90 ppb, respectively. NO2 concentrations in residential indoor and outdoor, total outdoor, other indoor, and transportation by multiple regression analysis were significantly estimated as 20.48 ppb, 32.79 ppb, 24.35 ppb, and 28.82 ppb, respectively (p= 0.000). Measured and estimated NO2 concentration were similar with each other, therefore NO2 concentrations in each microenvironment were able to be estimated using time-weighted average model and personal exposure with multiple regression analysis.

        Three potato cultivars, Sumi,Daejima and Namjak, were prepared as slices. They were dipped in distilled water for 20 seconds. The potato slices were packed in polyethylene bags and stored at 5℃. Browning degree, total phenol and chlorogenic acid contents and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity were measured. And the correlation analysis of browning parameters were conducted. The results were as follows. There were increase in browning degree, phenolic content and PPO activity during cold storage of potato slices with different cultivars. Among three cultivars, Sumi showed the highest browning degree, phenolic content and PPO activity and also showed the highest % increse of browning and PPO activity during cold storage. On the contrary, Daejima was the lowest. But Daejima showed the highest % increase in phenolic contents during cold storage. With Sumi, browning degree was significantly correlated with PPO activity and phenolic contents (p〈0.05). With Daejima and Namjak, a significant correlation was found between browning degree and PPO activity (p〈0.05). From the above results, enzymatic browning reactions of potato slices and factors affecting them were dependent on cultivar. Among the tested three cultivars, Daejima showed the lowest browning degree during cold storage and thus seems to be desirable for minimal processing.

        인삼, 들깨 기름, 칼슘 및 마그네슘이 함유되어 있는 식이로 사육한 토끼의 혈장 콜레스테롤과 HMG-CoA reductase의 활성을 조사하였다. 간에 포함되어 있는 HMG-CoA reductase의 활성은 인삼과 들깨 기름 및 마그네슘 첨가 식이군에 있어서 증가되었으며 혈장 콜레스테롤의 농도는 감소되었다. 혈장 LDL-콜레스테롤은 대조군보다 감소하였으나 HDL-콜레스테롤은 증가되었다. 또한 베타 글로블린의 분포도 인삼과 마그네슘 및 들깨 기름을 첨가 급여한 실험군에 있어서 가장 낮았으며, α-2-글로블린은 대조군에 비하여 가장 높은 값을 보였다. 전해질은 K+은 인삼 첨가로 감소 되었으나 Na+은 증가되었다. 혈장 마그네슘의 농도는 인삼의 첨가로 변화가 없었지만 칼슘과 들깨 기름 및 인삼 첨가식이로 마그네슘의 농도가 더 증가되었다. 혈장 칼슘의 농도는 마그네슘과 인삼을 첨가한 식이군에 있어서 감소하였다.

        Asthmatics are more susceptible to fine particulate matters (PM2.5), compared to the general population. It has been reported that indoor PM2.5 is mainly generated by combustion of fossil fuels, meat or fish In particular, asthmatics are known to be more susceptible to indoor PM2.5 because 65 ∼ 95% of child or adult asthmatics stay inside the house. Thus, understanding the association between indoor activity patterns and variations in indoor PM2.5 levels is important. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of hourly indoor PM2.5 concentrations in asthmatics’ homes, and to evaluate its association with pan-frying cooking activity patterns, the most common PM2.5 emission related activity. From November 2017 to February 2018, real-time PM2.5 concentrations were measured in the living room of each asthmatic’s house (n = 35) for three weeks at 1 minute intervals. At the same time, self-reported daily activity patterns, hourly proportion (%) of cooking activities, were also recorded every hour over three weeks for each patient. In this study, we provided quantitative evidence that the distribution patterns of indoor hourly PM2.5 concentrations were associated with indoor cooking activities, especially in the homes of adult asthmatics. In addition, we observed that PM2.5 emitted by pan-frying could maintain even over up to 2 hour lagtime.

        Background : Cornus kousa fruit has been used as a medicine for a long time. Therefore, for the purpose of utilizing C. kousa fruit as a health functional food, antioxidant activity was tested by extracting ethanol concentrations to identify optimal extraction conditions. Methods and Results : C. kousa fruits used in this study were washed, dried and pulverized. Then, the samples and solvents by ethanol concentration (0, 20, 40, 60 80 and 100%) were extracted at 80℃ for 90 minutes at 1 : 20 ratio, respectively. Afterwards, it was filtered, concentrated, frozen and dried. Total phenol and flavonoid content, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power and oxygen radical absorbance capacity were measured. The total phenol and flavonoid content is the highest in 60% ethanol extract at 20.08 ㎎·GAE/g, 0.86 ㎎·QE/g. In addition to all antioxidant studies showed the highest activitiy in 60% ethanol extract. Also, when HepG2 cells were treated with ethanol extract at 200 ㎍/㎖ concentrations, the survival rate was more than 90% and cytotoxicity was not observed. Then, HepG2 cells were treated with tBHP to induce oxidative stress, and the cytoprotective effect and inhibitory activity of ROS production were measured. As a result, 60% ethanol extract showed the best activity. Conclusion : When extracting C. kousa fruits with ethanol as solvent, It is expected best to use 60% ethanol to maximize potential as a material for health functional foods.

        주의 집중의 문제는 아동의 행동 발달과 중요한 관계를 맺고 있으며 주의 집중은 아동의 원만한 성장과 학업 성취를 위해 가장 시급히 길러 야 될 중요한 능력이다. 다양한 오감 자극 원예활동은 적절한 시각, 촉각, 청각, 후각, 미각의 자극을 주는 활동으로 아동의 주의 집중력 향상 과 감각발달을 촉진시킬 수 있다. 오감자극 원예치료로 아동의 주의집중력과 감각발달의 효과를 구명하고자 하였다. 아동의 주의집중력과 감각발달의 효과를 위해 오감자극 원예활동 프로그램을 매 회기 마다 구성하여 오감자극 환경을 제시하고 주의집중력과 감각발달 향상을 위한 활동을 계획, 조직화하고 의미 있는 활동들을 이끌어 내어 치료의 효과를 높여 주었다. 연구대상은 초등학생 41명으로 대조군은 D시 내 H지역아동센터 학생 19명, 실험군은 D시내 S지역아동센터 학생 22명이 참가하였다. 실시기간은 2017년 1월 4일부터 3월 29일까지 매 주 1회 60분, 총 12회기로 구성하였다. 평가도구는 FAIR 주의집중력 검사(시각), Grooved Pegboard(시각, 촉각), 곽소영, 질문 듣고 대답하 기 10문항, 듣고 찾기 7문항(청각), 후각인식검사(후각), 미각인식검사(미각)로 사전 사후 검사로 진행하였다. 그 결과 대조군은 모든 항목 유의한 차이가 없었지만 실험군은 Grooved Pegboard 시각 촉각검사의 우세 손(P=.068)을 제외한 시각(선택적 주의력, 지속적 주의력, 자 기통제력)(P=.000), 촉각(비우세손)(P=.000), 청각(질문 듣고 대답하기, 듣고 찾기)(P=.003), 후각인식검사(P=.004), 미각인식검사 (P=.001)에서 유의한 긍정적인 변화가 있었다.
