본 연구는 유색과 백색품종 토종오리의 성별에 따른 생산능력과 도체특성을 평가하고자 실시하였다. 1일령 토종오리 총 480수를 2개 품종(유색과 백색)×2개 성별(암컷과 수컷)로 총 4처리구의 4반복으로 반복 당 30수씩 평사에 나누어 8주간 사양실험을 진행하였다. 본 연구결과, 전체 사양실험기 간에서 토종오리의 체중, 증체량 및 사료섭취량은 품종(유색과 백색) 간 차이는 없었으나 수컷이 암컷보다 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 이와 유사하게, 사료요구율은 유색품종과 백색품종의 차이가 없었으나 수컷이 암컷에 비해 유의적으로 개선됨을 확인하였다(p<0.05). 토종오리의 머리, 가슴육, 다리육 및 간의 무게는 처리구간 통계적 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 도체중량은 처리구간 차이가 없었으나, 도체율은 백색품종이 유색품종과 비교해 현저히 높았다(p<0.05). 또한 복강지방 무게는 수컷이 암컷에 비해 높았으며(p<0.05) 백색품종이 유색품종보다 높았다(p<0.05). 폐사율은 토종오리 의 품종과 성별에 따른 유의적 차이가 없었다. 본 연구결과는 토종오리의 육성기 단계에서 사육성적에 대한 기초자료로 이용될 것으로 사료된다.
Captive breeding and reintroduction are crucial strategies for conserving endangered species populations. However, fish raised in predator-free environments, show a lack of recognition of predationrelated stimuli such as chemical and visual signals. It is critical to recognize chemical signals from injured conspecifics, also known as alarm signals, and the order or shape of predators to indicate the spread of predation risk in the habitat. We conducted a laboratory experiment to determine and adjust the optimal exposure period to induce appropriate anti-predator behavior response to different types of stimuli (Chemical, Visual and Chemical+Visual) for the endangered species Microphysogobio rapidus. Our results demonstrate that predator avoidance behavior varies depending on the types of stimuli and the duration of predation risk exposure. First, the results showed captive-breed M. rapidus show lack of response against conspecific alarm signal (Chemical cue) before the predation risk exposure period and tend to increase response over predation risk exposure time. Second, response to predator (visual cue) tend to peak at 48 hours cumulative exposure, but show dramatic decrease after 72 hours cumulative exposure. Finally, response to the mixed cue (Chemical+visual) tend to peak prior to the predation risk exposure period and show reduced response during subsequent exposure periods. This experiment confirms the lack of responsiveness to conspecific alarm signals in captive-bred M. rapidus and the need for an optimal nature behavior enhancement program prior to release of endangered species. Furthermore, responsiveness to predator visual signal peak at 48 hours cumulative exposure, suggest an optimal predation risk exposure period of up to 48 hours. The sheep can be reproduced by natural mating as well as applied reproductive biotechnology, embryo transfer (ET). However, this method in sheep is influenced by several factors such as season, photoperiod, latitude, temperature, nutrition, and breed. In addition, there is still less research on assisted reproductive technologies in small ruminants, compared to other livestock species such as cattle and pigs. Because there has been a need for an optimization and a continuous improvement of ET techniques in small ruminants. the main objective of this study was to evaluate the conception rate obtained after ET in Mongolian sheep (Dorper breed). After embryo recover, code 1 and 2 embryos (morula or blastocyst stage) for ET in the present study were 63% (63/100) and 24% (24/100), respectively. Then Each single embryo was transferred to a synchronized recipient who prepared by estrous synchronization protocol with fluorogestone acetate-cloprostenol sodium. The results demonstrated that an average conception rate and lambing rate was 35.6% (31/87) and 33.3% (29/87), respectively. Further study is still necessary, but these results indicated that single embryo of Mongolian sheep with the present protocol was enough to conducting ET when the genetically superior sheep were necessary to be expanded.
The ability to determine the sex of bovine embryos before the transfer is advantageous in livestock management, especially in dairy production, where female calves are preferred in milk industry. The milk production of female and male cattle benefits both the dairy and beef industries. Pre-implantation sexing of embryos also helps with embryo transfer success. There are two approaches for sexing bovine embryos in farm animals: invasive and non-invasive. A non-invasive method of embryo sexing retains the embryo’s autonomy and, as a result, is less likely to impair the embryo’s ability to move and implant successfully. There are lists of non-invasive embryo sexing such as; Detection of H-Y antigens, X-linked enzymes, and sexing based on embryo cleavage and development. Since it protects the embryo’s autonomy, the non-invasive procedure is considered to be the safest. Invasive methods affect an embryo’s integrity and are likely to damage the embryo’s chances of successful transformation. There are different types of invasive methods such as polymerase chain reaction, detection of male chromatin Y chromosomespecific DNA probes, Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), cytological karyotyping, and immunofluorescence (FISH). The PCR approach is highly sensitive, precise, and effective as compared to invasive methods of farm animal embryonic sexing. Invasive procedures, such as cytological karyotyping, have high accuracy but are impractical in the field due to embryonic effectiveness concerns. This technology can be applicable especially in the dairy and beef industry by producing female and male animals respectively. Enhancing selection accuracy and decreasing the multiple ovulation embryo transfer costs.
표고는 우리나라를 포함한 동북아시아 전역에서 오랫동안 식용으로 애용되고 있는 대중적 버섯으로 맛과 향이 독특하다. 또한 약리적인 효능이 과학적으로 밝혀졌다. 표고는 원목재배와 톱밥재배에 의해 생산되며 원목재배 기 간은 4~5년인데 반해 톱밥재배는 6개월로 재배기간이 짧아 원목재배에서 톱밥재배로 빠르게 전환되고 있다. 특히 산조 701호는 중고온성 품종으로 우리나라의 표고 톱밥 재배 대표적인 여름철 품종으로 재배임가에 널리 알려져 있으며, 임가 소득에 기여하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 표고 톱밥재배 품종 중에서 산조 701호의 육성내력과 다양한 실증시험, 국산품종 보급확대 등 우리나라 표고산업 발전에 기여한 성과를 기술하였다.
The aim of the current study was to compare the effects of season and breed on the reproductive performance of male and female sheep using 12 rams and 318 ewes of Assaf and Awassi breeds under the seasonal environmental condition of United Arab Emirates for two years. The blood level of testosterone hormone was measured monthly. Semen was collected twice a month from each male using artificial vagina and evaluated for volume, motility, livability, abnormality and concentration. The scrotal circumference and thickness as well as the left testicular length, width, height and volume were measured at one-month intervals. The level of testosterone in Assaf breed was significantly higher in autumn than winter and summer. The scrotal circumference and thickness as well as the left testicular length were significantly higher in Assaf breed than Awassi breed. While, left testicular width and volume were significantly higher in Awassi breed than Assaf breed. Scrotal circumference which was higher in spring and summer than in autumn and winter season in both breeds. The SCC of semen was significantly higher in autumn than in other seasons in both breeds. The sperm abnormality was significantly higher in summer than other seasons in both breeds. The livability was significantly lower in summer in both breeds. Fecundity and prolificacy were significantly higher in Assaf than Awassi breed during autumn season. Assaf breed showed the superior reproductive performance in the autumn season when compared with Awassi breed in the same season and other seasons. The Assaf breed tolerated the climatic conditions in UAE and kept the litter size of 1.72 in comparison to Awassi breed which showed litter size of 1.09. in conclusion, the results showed the superiority of Assaf over Awassi breed and offer a good model of breeding with increased fecundity and prolificacy specially in autumn season.
개(Canis lupus familiaris)는 인간의 소외 현상을 개선하고, 공동체 생활 의식 향상에 기여하는 반려동물이다. 반려견 품종을 명확히 관리하는 것은 유전병을 감소시키거나, 형질 개량, 종 다양성 유지 등을 위해 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 고밀도 SNP 칩 유전자형 데이터와 기계학습 기술을 이용하여, 유전자형 데이터에 기반한 품종 식별이 가능한지, 가능하다면 최소 몇 개의 유전마커로 품종 식별을 유의하게 수행할 수 있는지 확인하기 위하여, 반려견 11 품종 226두의 23K SNP 칩 데이터를 분석하였다. 9종의 기계학습 다중범주 분류 알고리즘과 2종의 특징 선택 방법의 성능을 비교하여, 선형 서포트 벡터 머신 분류기와 주성분 분석 특징 기여도를 이용한 특징 선택 방법을 이용했을 때, 11종의 반려견 품종을 90% 이상 정확도로 식별하였으며, 이 때 40개의 유전마커가 필요함을 확인하였다. 최종 선발 된 40개의 반려견 품종 식별 유전마커는 타 질병 예측 마커와 결합하여 유전자 검사 키트로 제작될 수 있으며, 반려견 품종 관리 및 질병 관리 기술로 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Locomotion can be investigated using visual locomotion scoring or computer-assisted techniques such as force plates or pressure plates. Although visual locomotion scoring is inexpensive, it is subjective and depends on observers. Conversely, computer-assisted techniques are objective and more sensitive than visual assessment. Many studies of gait in large breed dogs have been conducted using these techniques; however, there have been few investigations of small to toy breed dogs. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to conduct gait analysis in small to toy breed dogs and to suggest normal reference ranges for clinical application. Twenty healthy dogs with no lameness or orthopedic pain weighing from 2 kg to 12 kg were used. The dogs were divided into two groups according to their weight, after which gait analysis was conducted using a pressure plate. The pressure force ratio between the forelimb and hindlimb was significantly lower in group 2 (mean 4.2 kg) than group 1 (mean 10.4 kg), while the stance time ratio between the forelimb and hindlimb tended to increase in group 2, but there was no significant difference. Other numerical values in group 2 tended to decrease, with some significant differences being observed. Overall, the results suggest that there are different gait features in small to toy breed dogs when compared with middle and large breed dogs.
Cryopreservation of germ cells from genetically proven animals could be a source of restoration tools from the risk of extinction or disappearance of wanted characteristics. Using frozen semen, the genetic gains of Korean native cattle have been increased greatly for 70 years. The preservation of genetic resources as a form of frozen semen straw has limited availability due to the numbers. To circumvent this weakness of frozen semen, we tested two re-freezing methods with different initial thawing temperatures using frozen Korean proven semen and rare breed semen from albino, black and chikso breeders. It has been known that human sperm could resist to cryo-damages by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, but not for Korean proven bulls number (KPN) or for rare breeds. Total 7 frozen semem from brindled(2), black(1), Korean Albino(2) and KPN(1) bulls were used for our research. After thawing straws under 5°C/2min or 37°C/40sec with low temperature water bath and thermo jug, spermatozoa were re-diluted with triladyl diluents after first thawing and re-frozen. Sperm motilities were compared between animals and treated groups after re-thawing. Mean values of motility and viability of refrozen/thawed sperm for expansion of the number of straws were significantly higher in 5°C than in 37°C (P< < 0.05). However, the activity of viable sperm thawed at 5°C was significantly decreased after first and second thawing. It is estimated that re-freezing of frozen semen from rare Korean native cattle is possible with resistant properties of survived spermatozoa.
This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics, anti-oxidation activity and di-peptide (anserine, carnosine) contents of marinated pork loin from Korean native black pig (KNBP) and crossbred of Landrace×Yorkshire×Durock (LYD) by addition of fruits (pineapple and gold kiwi). Sliced pork loin (13~15 mm) was marinated in three different treatments: 1) no fruits addition, 2) with seasoning and pineapple for 5 h, 3) with seasoning and kiwi for 5 h. Addition of fruits significantly decreased pH, hardness and chewiness of marinated KNBP and LYD pork loin. Anti-oxidation activity in pork were significantly increased by addition of fruits. Especially, addition of gold kiwi in the pork loin marinated for 5 h showed the highest anti-oxidation activity and carnosine contents. Also, it showed the highest score in the sensory characteristics (juiciness and tenderness). These results suggested that the pork loin marinated with gold kiwi for 5 h could be one of the solutions to enhance quality characteristics of marinated KNBP and LYD.
Value of excellent breeding animals is important in livestock industry, but their economic life time is limited. And, many countries have been trying procuration of genetic resource in good animals. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine embryo production and to test efficiency of embryo transfer via non-surgical artificial insemination (AI) in different breed of superior sows. A total of 17 sows were used in this experiment (Duroc, n=10; Landrace, n=4; Yorkshire, n=3). The sows were artificially inseminated by semen of same breed boars. After 4 or 5 days following the AI, the embryos were obtained from the sows and then transferred to Landrace and Yorkshire recipients (n=3, respectively) by non-surgical method. The corpora lutea tended to be increased in Yorkshire and Landrace than Duroc(28 and 26 vs. 17, respectively). The recovery of embryo was 78.8% in Landrace, 65.4% in Duroc and 51.4% in Yorkshire. Duroc showed lower morulaes and early blastocyst embryos than 2, 4 ,8 and 16 cell. The morula in Yorkshire was higher (P<0.05) than that of Duroc (4.7 vs. 3.4). Similarly, the morulaes and early blastocyst embryos presented greater (P<0.05) in Landrace compared with other breed sows. The recipient sows were pregnant in a Landrace only. This reason may be due to little embryos inserted in the recipients. In addition, pregnancy results were limited because of the little sows. In conclusion, ovulated ovum in sows can be affected by different breed. Also, further study needed pregnant test by using the many embryo in each breed.

Historically, Korea old cattle had been consisted with various lines of coat color brindle, black and white-brown breeds or more. The two rare lines of black and white coat color are maintained for animal resources and preserved critically. The present study was carried out to evaluate potential usage of cysteamine supplementation during in vitro matration (IVM) and in vitro culture/production of embryo (IVP) by transvaginal ultrasound-guided follicle aspiration (Ovum Pick-Up: OPU) for the establishment of cryo-banking system. Immature slaughterhouse-derived cumulus-oocyte complexes (SL-COCs) were matured in IVM medium supplemented with 0, 0.1, 0.3 or 0.9 mM cysteamine, and then cultured in mSOF-BAS for 8 days after in vitro fertilization. The treatment of 0.1 mM cysteamine on SL-COCs showed higher rate of blastocyst, so OPU-derived COCs from rare breeds were matured in TCM media supplemented with or without 0.1 mM cysteamine, FSH and 5% FBS. The embryos were evaluated their developmental stages on day 8. During IVM, cysteamine treatment significantly increased the embryo production rate of slaughterhouse-derived COCs (19.6% vs. 30.5%). The presence of cysteamine during IVM of OPU-derived COCs from rare Korean cattle breeds (albino white and black line) also increased embryo production rates than those from SL-COCs (27.4% vs. 41.9% and 36.4%). With these results, cysteamine treatment during IVM is one of key factors IVP of blastocysts to establish banking system of endangered rare Koarean cattle with OPU derived transferable blastocysts.
This study investigated the potential associations of dog characteristics with serum serotonin (5HT) concentration in dogs with degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD). Client-owned dogs were prospectively recruited at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University between 2010 and 2011. Forty-two dogs (22 females and 20 males) were enrolled in this study. DMVD dogs included Maltese (n=12), followed by Shih-tzu (n=10), mixed breed (n=5), Chihuahua (n=4), Miniature schnauzer (n=3), Miniature poodle (n=3), Miniature pinscher (n=1), Pomeranian (n=1), Yorkshire terrier (n=2), and Spitz (n=1). As inclusion criteria for the study, dogs had to show either direct or echocardiographic evidence of DMVD. Platelet count significantly differed among the three groups, as the moderate (P<0.05) and severe groups (P<0.05) showed significantly higher platelet counts than the mild DMVD group. Additionally, significantly higher LVIDd, LVIDs, fractional shortening (FS), and LA:Ao ratios were observed in dogs with moderate (P<0.05) and severe (P<0.05) DMVD compared to the mild group, respectively. Significant positive correlations between serum 5-hydroxytryptamine (5HT) concentration and platelet count (r=0.273, P=0.03), LA:Ao ratio (r=0.459, P=0.001), and LVIDd (r=0.319, P=0.013) were observed in DMVD dogs. Therefore, serum 5HT concentration may be a potential cause of DMVD progression.
This study aims to construct the basic data of faecal-marking behaviors of Korean native dog breed, Jindo-Gae (Canis lupus familiaris) under the influence of spay and neuter and to estimate the frequency of faecal-marking, especially natural and artificial environments. Faecal-marking rate of female and male dogs are 3.43 : 1. Faecal-marking after urination by male is 13 times higher than female. Ground-scratching after feacal-marking by male is 24 times higher than female. Faecal-marking by jindo-Gae thought to a multiple sign combining visual and chemical elements and their faecal-marking postures are similar. Native dogs shows that a missing link in dog domestication, thus behavioral comparisons between wolves and Korean native dogs are needed.
This stuy aims to construct the basic data of urine-marking behaviors of Korean native dog breed, Jindo-Gae (Canis lupus familiaris) under the influence of spay and neuter and to estimate the frequency of urine-marking, especially natural and artificial environments. Most urination by male were RLU(87.3%)and by female were SQ(66.3%). Urine-marking by jindo-Gae thought to a multiple sign combining visual and chemical elements, also seem to sex dimorphism behavior. Native dogs shows that a missing link in dog domestication,thus behavioral comparisons between wolves and Korean native dogs are needed.
The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters on days to 90 kg body weight and ultrasound measured traits (back fat thickness, eye muscle area, retail cut percentage) and predict genetic progress when the weights for selection on the paternal traits of Duroc, which can be incorporated into sire line selection indexes. A simulation program, ZPLAN+, was used for the simulation. Genetic parameters of days to 90 kg body weight (D90KG), back fat thickness (BFT), eye muscle area (EMA) and retail cut percentage (RCP) used in the simulation were estimated from 27,972 heads of farm tested Duroc pigs from 2005 to July, 2012. Parameters of simulation used genetic parameters with parturition rates, ratios of test pigs and replacement rates that were dependent on selection protocols of simulated farms. Different weights of selection for traits of days to 90 kg and backfat thickness were compared. Estimates of heritability were 0.406, 0.355, 0.159 and 0.379 for D90KG, BFT, EMA and RCP, respectively. Genetic correlation of D90KG with BFT, EMA and RCP were –0.043, 0.049 and 0.021, respectively. Genetic correlation of BFT with EMA and RCP were –0.394 and –0.937. And genetic correlation between EMA with RCP were 0.524. Simulation result showed that index weight of 3:1 on D90KG and BFT was effective to shorten days to 90 kg without any significant changes in backfat thickness. Generally the genetic changes were greater as parturition rate and ratios of test pigs increased. Increase in replacement rate had a small effect on genetic changes in negative way. Thus, we recommend that index weight of 3:1 on days to 90 kg and backfat thickness could be utilized for sire line selection.
표고 “수향고”는 Di-mon 교잡에 의해 육성되어 품종으로 등록요건에 적합한 조건시험을 거쳐 품종출원 되었다. 균사생장은 25℃에서 가장 우수하였다. 버섯의 형태는 평반구형의 대엽, 후육으로 갓직경은 약 52㎜이고 갓의 두께는 약 17mm이다. 주름살 측면은 평활형이며 주름살 폭은 보통으로 갓과 대의 위치는 중심생이고 갓의 가장자리에 인피가 있다. 도목살수에 의한 버섯발생에 적합한 품종으로 집중발생형이다. 버섯의 발이온도는 18~28℃로 발생시기가 6월, 8~9월인 고온성 품종이다. 재배시험지에서 4년간 140kg/㎥의 표고가 생산되었다.
