        Carbon dots (C-dots) are a developing subclass of nanomaterials which are characterized by a typical diameter of less than 10 nm. C-dots are a type of core–shell composites that feature a surface passivation with various functional groups, including amine, carboxyl, hydroxyl group, and a carbon core. Green C-dots, which have drawn a lot of interest from researchers due to their superior water solubility, excellent biocompatibility, and environmental-friendly behavior when compared to chemically generated C-dots, can be made from a variety of low-cost and renewable materials. Since green C-dots have heteroatoms on their surface in the form of carboxyl, amine, hydroxyl, or other functional groups, which can enhance their physicochemical characteristics, quantum yield (QY), and likelihood of visible light absorption, further surface passivation is not necessary. Green C-dots may find use in the areas of biosensing, catalysis, bioimaging, and gene and drug delivery. In this paper, the creation of C-dots was outlined, and its fluorescence process examined. This review represents the summary of synthesis, mechanism, properties, characterization, and applications of C-dots. This article aims at the green chemistry strategies for C-dot synthesis. Furthermore, a discussion on the applications of C-dots produced with green approaches is presented. The paper may help the researchers in the field to develop new C-dots with potential features to attract the attention of new applications.

        1개월과 3개월 장기 예보를 지원하기 위해 기상청에서 현업운용 중인 GloSea6 기후예측시스템에는 대기 중 대 기화학-에어로졸 물리과정(UKCA)이 연동되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 저해상도의 GloSea6와 여기에 대기화학-에어로 졸 과정을 연동시킨 GloSea6-UKCA를 CentOS 기반 리눅스 클러스터에 설치하여 2000년 봄철에 대한 예비적인 예측 결과를 살펴보았다. 현업 고해상도 GloSea6 모델이 방대한 전산자원을 필요로 한다는 점을 고려할 때, 저해상도 GloSea6와 GloSea6-UKCA 모델은 대기화학-에어로졸 과정의 연동에 따른 효과를 살펴보기에 적합하다. 저해상도 GloSea6와 GloSea6-UKCA는 2000년 3월 1일 00Z부터 75일 간 구동되었으며, 두 모델이 예측한 2000년 4월 지상 기온과 일평균 강수량의 공간 분포를 ERA5 재분석자료와 비교하였다. GloSea6-UKCA가 예측한 기온과 강수 분포는 기존 GloSea6에 비해 ERA5 재분석자료에 보다 더 유사해졌다. 특히 우리나라를 포함한 동아시아 지역에 대해 과대 모의 경 향이 있던 봄철 지상 기온과 일평균 강수량의 예측 결과의 개선이 주목할 만하다. 또한 적분 시간에 따른 예측된 기온 과 강수량의 시계열에서도 GloSea6-UKCA가 GloSea6보다 재분석자료에 더 가까워진 시간 변화 경향을 살펴볼 수 있었 다. 이는 대기화학-에어로졸 과정이 GloSea6에 연동되었을 때 동아시아지역 봄철 예측 성능이 개선될 수 있음을 보여준다.

        We investigate the provenance of detrital garnets in Middle-Upper Jurassic sandstone of the Mino terrane, an accretionary complex in Southwest Japan, based on their chemical composition. The garnet grains in the Mino sandstone are mostly Fe-rich (almandine) and slightly Mg-rich (pyrope) species derived from high-grade metamorphic and intermediate to acidic plutonic rocks. The composition and interpreted origin of the garnets are generally consistent with those of metamorphic and igneous rocks of the Yeongnam Massif on the Korean Peninsula, a possible source region suggested in previous studies. In addition, two single grains of chromian spinel, an accessory mineral found in mafic to ultramafic rocks such as mantle peridotite, were found in one of the Mino sandstone samples. This finding suggests the possible presence of mafic to ultramafic rocks in the source area. The results of this study provide complimentary evidence for establishing a comprehensive tectonic and paleogeographical framework for the Mesozoic East Asian continent.

        Korean innovative SMR has been implemented developing with improved safety/economy and i- SMR technology development project to secure a competitive edge in SMR. For nuclear power plants, according to the revision of the Nuclear Safety Act (2013.6), it is mandatory to be reflected in the aging management program of nuclear power plants, and the aging management and regulation of major nuclear power plants are being strengthened. For i-SMR, chemistry environment and management strategy is essential to mitigate corrosion and radiation fields, since it has compacted and integrated module designs. Since 1994, zinc injection into the reactor coolant system (RCS) has been applied more than 100 PWRs in the world to mitigate primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) and to reduce outof- core radiation fields. In domestic NPPs, 7 have been applying zinc injection and had up to 90% radiation field reductions. For this reason, SMR needs to apply zinc injection for chemistry strategy. Zinc target concentration will be 5~40 ppb at i-SMR, based on Ni-Fe-Cr materials as same as PWRs. Zinc injection location is in volume and purification control system between the volume control tank and charging P/P where the pressure is moderate. Zinc injection skid can consist of two micro-controllable pump (one for operation and one for stand-by) and one injection tank (batching tank for zinc solution). Zn, Ni, Si, Fe, and activated corrosion products should be monitored to identify zinc injection controls and trends. Flux mapping for core performance monitoring should be evaluated. The application of zinc will be essential and effective and bring sustainable reliability for corrosion control and mitigation strategy to meet the risk-free i-SMR development.

        The operation of nuclear power plants, nuclear waste depositories, and the decontamination and decommissioning of nuclear power plants all have the possibility of generating various kinds of radionuclides that can be formed as gaseous or liquid phases. Among the radionuclides, strontium is considered as most harmful substance due to its abundance in nuclear accident effluent, long half-life, high fission yield, high water solubility, and high mobility in aquatic environment. To remove strontium from aquatic environment, adsorption technique is mainly used with high economic feasibility, efficiency, and selectivity. Previously, we synthesized sodium titanates with mid-temperature hydrothermal method as selective strontium adsorbent in aqueous solution. Moreover, it was demonstrated that synthesized sodium titanates show high strontium adsorption rate with high selectivity with high surface area, pore diameter and volume. Herein, we investigated the surface structure of synthesized sodium titanates before and after strontium adsorption in aqueous solution using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. According to SEM and EDS experimental results, aquatic strontium can be adsorbed as surface precipitation with formation of cube-shaped structure, which is quite similar strontium titanate structure crystals onto the surface of sodium titanates. In addition, XPS experimental results revealed that the titanium ions on the surface of sodium titanates were oxidized during strontium surface precipitation process, and the sodium ion on the surface of sodium titanates were exchanged with aquatic strontium ions via ion exchange process during strontium adsorption process.

        This study presents the data analysis results of groundwater chemistry and the occurrence of fluoride in groundwater obtained from the groundwater quality monitoring network of Korea. The groundwater data were collected from the National Groundwater Information Center and censored for erratic values and charge balance (±10%). From the geochemical graphs and various ionic ratios, it was observed that the Ca-HCO3 type was predominant in Korean groundwater. In addition, water-rock interaction was identified as a key chemical process controlling groundwater chemistry, while precipitation and evaporation were found to be less important. According to a non-parametric trend test, at p=0.05, the concentration of fluoride in groundwater did not increase significantly and only 4.3% of the total groundwater exceeded the Korean drinking water standard of 1.5 mg/L. However, student t-tests revealed that the fluoride concentrations were closely associated with the lithologies of tuff, granite porphyry, and metamorphic rocks showing distinctively high levels. This study enhances our understanding of groundwater chemical composition and major controlling factors of fluoride occurrence and distribution in Korean groundwater.

        This study analyzed the effect of time of trot on hematology and blood chemistry values of the Jeju Pony crossbreed horses that are commonly used for riding (14.1±1.4 years old, Gelding). A total of 28 parameters including vital signs as well as stress hormones such as cortisol and lactic acid levels were examined as the time of the trot exercise progressed. Vital signs such as heart rate (38.0→81.0 times/min) and respiratory rate (11.7→35.7 times/min) increased significantly within 30 minutes of exercise. However, difference in the body temperature was not observed before and after exercise. The hematology including white blood cell count (8.03→9.52×103 cells/μL), red blood cell count (5.94×103→7.23–7.32×103 cells/μL), hemoglobin levels (11.82→14.65–14.78 g/dL), and hematocrit levels (25.04→30.27%) significantly increased 30 minutes after the start of the exercise (p<0.05). The blood chemistry value of albumin (3.25→3.47 g/dL) (p<0.05) only showed a significant increase after the exercise. However, the other blood chemistry levels such as, Na+, K+, Ca2+, total CO2, creatine kinase, glucose, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, aspartate transaminase, total bilirubin, gamma–glutamyl transpeptidase, and total plasma protein did not change. Also, cortisol and lactic acid levels did not show significant difference. The middle-aged Jeju pony crossbreed horses were not stressed by the 30-minute exercise; therefore, it can be concluded that there is no problem regarding the safety of both the rider and the animal.

        희토류(Rare Earth) 함량이 높은 TRU 생성물 중의 RE 원소를 감소시키기 위하여 RE 원소와 UCl3의 산화반응을 이용한 RE 제거 공정의 타당성을 HSC Chemistry 코드를 이용하여 검토하였다. 사용후핵연료에 포함된 TRU 원소 및 RE 원소의 조성 및 열역학적 자료를 검토하였으며, UCl3와의 산화 반응에 따른 평형 자료를 계산하여 공정 가능성을 검토하였다. 실제 파이로 프로세싱 처리를 가정한 물질수지로부터 TRU 생성물의 RE 함량이 다른 두 가지 경우에 대하여 RE 원소 제거율과 TRU 회수율을 평가하였다. TRU 생성물을 산화제인 UCl3와 반응시켰을 때 각 원소의 Gibbs free energy의 차이에 의한 선택적 산화 반응이 일어났다. 투입된 UCl3 양을 조절하여 TRU 회수율을 최대로 유지하면서도 RE 원소를 제거하여 최종생성물의 TRU/ RE 비를 증가시킬 수 있는 가능성을 계산 결과로 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과들은 열역학적 평형 자료에 기반한 결과이므로 실제 공정에 적용하기에는 많은 차이점이 존재한다. 그러나 TRU 물질을 취급하기 어려운 환경에서 파이로프로세싱의 TRU 생성물을 고속로의 핵연료로 공급하기 위한 공정 설계에 중요한 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

        Cerium oxide (ceria, CeO2) is one of the most wide-spread oxide supporting materials for the precious metal nanoparticle class of heterogeneous catalysts. Because ceria can store and release oxygen ions, it is an essential catalytic component for various oxidation reactions such as CO oxidation (2CO + O2 2CO2). Moreover, reduced ceria is known to be reactive for water activation, which is a critical step for activation of water-gas shift reaction (CO + H2O → H2 + CO2). Here, we apply van der Waals-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with U correction to study the mechanism of water chemisorption on CeO2(111) surfaces. A stoichiometric CeO2(111) and a defected CeO2(111) surface showed different water adsorption chemistry, suggesting that defected CeO2 surfaces with oxygen vacancies are responsible for water binding and activation. An appropriate level of water-ceria chemisorption energy is deduced by vdW-corrected non-local correlation coupled with the optB86b exchange functional, whereas the conventional PBE functional describes weaker water-ceria interactions, which are insufficient to stabilize (chemisorb) water on the ceria surfaces.

        It is important to understand the variability of tropospheric ozone since it is both a major pollutant affecting human health and a greenhouse gas influencing global climate. We analyze the characteristics of East Asia tropospheric ozone simulated in a chemistry-climate model. We use a global chemical transport model, driven by the prescribed meteorological fields from an air-sea coupled climate model simulation. Compared with observed data, the ozone simulation shows differences in distribution and concentration levels; in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula, a large error occurred in summer. Our analysis reveals that this bias is mainly due to the difference in atmospheric circulation, as the anomalous southerly winds lead to the decrease in tropospheric ozone in this region. In addition, observational data have shown that the western North Pacific subtropical high (WNPSH) reduces tropospheric ozone across the southern China/ Korean Peninsula/Japan region. In the model, the ozone changes associated with WNPSH are shifted westward relative to the observations. Our findings suggest that the variations in WNPSH should be considered in predicting tropospheric ozone concentrations.

        There are more than 30,000 chemical substances handled in domestic university laboratories. Among them, hazardous materials are selected and managed as designated substances by the standards of 19 Ministries and 16 Acts. However, domestic safety-related laws and regulations are used to manage industrial risk factors based on industrial activities. In case of installing a university chemical laboratory in accordance with the installation standards applicable to general workplaces. It is not suitable to use as a laboratory installation standard that can be applied to a chemical laboratory installed at a university such as a problem occurs in applying to a university using a small quantity of dangerous substances in a small amount. In order to establish the laboratory structure and facility standards that are appropriate for the laboratory characteristics and apply systematic laboratory safety, the National Security Administration shall apply the special handling standard of chemical experiment to places where handling less than 30 times the designated quantity of chemical substances for chemical experiments. On August 2, 2016, the regulations for the enforcement of the Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act and the standards for the structure and facilities of the university chemical laboratory were enacted. In this study, we investigated the domestic chemical substances laws and regulations to determine the chemical substances that are over-regulated in the relevant laws, and define them as substances against accidents. The management criteria for the substances were analyzed. The R value for the designation of the designated quantity by the concept of the space in the management standard was calculated.

        TPR(체온, 심박수, 호흡수) 및 혈액 검사는 인간뿐만 아니라 동물의 건강상태와 질병 진단에 폭넓게 이용되고 있고, 말에서는 건강상태와 운동능력의 평가에 중요한 분야이다. 국내에 가장 많은 사육두수를 점유하고 있는 한라마(제주산마)에 대한 운동저항성에 대한 조사보고가 없었 다. 본 연구에서는 한라마의 운동 시간에 따른 TPR과 혈액검사를 통하여 운동저항성을 평가하 고자 실시하였다. 시험축은 한라대학교(제주)에서 관리 중인 한라마 5두를 이용하였으며, 각각 운동방법(평보, 속보)와 시간(5분, 10분, 20분)에 따른 TPR과 혈액화학치를 분석하였다. 혈액화 학치는 근육 운동과 관련성이 높은 Creatine kinase(CK), Ca ionaized, Calcium, Phosphorus, Sodium, Potassium, Lactic acid, Cortisol 및 Aldosterone을 분석하였다. 각각 결과는 mean±SD 로 나타냈으며, 통계처리는 t-test를 이용하였고 p<0.05 수준에서 유의성 검정을 하였다. 평보 지속시간(5분, 10분, 20분)에 따른 체온과 심박수는 각각 37.2 – 37.8℃ 및 45.3 – 52.0회/분 로 차이가 없었다. 하지만 호흡수는 운동전이 평균 28.8회/분에서 운동시작 후 33.8회/분 로 유의하 게 증가하였으나(p<0.05), 운동시간 경과에 따른 차이는 없었다(평균 32.5 – 33.8회/분). 속보 운 동시 체온은 운동전이 37.6℃으나 운동시작 후 평균 38.1℃이상, 심박수도 운동전 44.5회/분에서 10분 운동 후 49.3회/분, 호흡수도 운동전 31.0회/분에서 10분 운동 후 38.3회/분으로 유의하게 상승하였다(p<0.05). 한편 혈액화학치는 운동 강도와 지속시간에 따라 으로 CK 302.25 – 372.50, Ca ionaized 1.37 – 1.46, Calcium 12.05 – 12.22, Phosphorus 2.30-2.48, Sodium 100.84 – 137.25, Potassium 3.58 – 4.55, Lactic acid 0.70 – 1.06, Cortisol 6.67 – 7.88 및 Aldosterone 0.68 – 2.05 수준으로 차이가 없었다. 향후 다양한 운동강도에 따른 추가 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

        This study was evaluated individual growth and hematological changes of young starry flounder, using hyperpigmentation marks on the blind side of body after feeding extruded pellet (EP) and moisture pellet (MP) for 45 days. As a result, the fish grew up to 220.1±47.8 g in the EP treatment and 224.7±42.4 g in the MP treatment, so the weight gain was significantly higher in the MP treatment (74.6±17.3%) than in the EP treatment (63.7±16.9%) (P<0.05). Osmolalities of flounder after 45 days culture were similar between the treatments (P>0.05), showing values of 359.8±4.2 mOsm kg-1 in the EP treatment and 358.5±6.2 mOsm kg-1 in the MP treatment. Similarly, other blood chemistry indicators such as sodium, chloride, total protein, albumin, glucose, total cholesterol, BUN, creatinine, ammonia, triglyceride, cortisol, GOT, GPT and hematocrit showed no differences between the treatments. However, the free fatty acid concentration was significantly higher in the MP treatment than in the EP treatment (P<0.05).

        본 연구는 2014년 6월부터 10월까지 강원도 태백산도립공원 10개 조사지점의 이화학적 수질특성과 담수어류상을 조사하였다. 채집된 어류는 3과 7종이 확인되었고, 멸종위기종에 속하는 얼룩새코미꾸리(Koreocobitis naktongensis) 1종이 출현하였다. 한국고유종은 얼룩새코미꾸리(Koreocobitis naktongensis), 참종개(Iksookimia koreensis) 2종이 출 현하였다. 우점종은 버들치(Rhynchocypris oxycephalus)로 전체 개체수의 89%를 차지하였으며, 아우점종은 대륙종개 (Orthrias nudus)가 8.9%로 나타났다. 이·화학적 수질변수 중 전기전도도, 탁도, pH, 총용존물질(TDS)은 조사 지점별로 농도의 큰 변이를 보였다. 이 중 전기전도도와 총용존물질은 하류하천보다 상류하천에서 더 높은 농도값을 보였으며, 계절적 변이도 상류하천에 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. pH는 하류로 갈수록 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 특히 S5에서 급격한 감소를 보였다. 이는 S4의 산성광산배수 유입으로 인한 희석효과가 나타나는 것으로 보인다. 정성적 서식지 평가지수(QHEI)에 의거한 소도천 유역의 물리적 서식지 상태는 “양호”한 서식환경(평균 : 157.3, 범위 : 78 ~ 194)을 보이는 것으로 평가되었다.
