The elderly population is rapidly increasing in South Korea, and interest in food development considering the Sasang constitution theory from oriental medicine and balanced nutrition is increasing. We developed the oriental medicinal porridges based on the Sasang constitution for the elderly. By Sasang constitutional medicine, Taeyangin has a large lung and small liver, and Soyangin has a large stomach and small kidney. Taeeumin has a small lung and large liver, and Soeumin has a small stomach and a large kidney. In this study, proper oriental medicine and food ingredients were identified, and a total of 12 oriental medicinal porridges were developed for 3 items by 4 Sasang constitution types. A single portion was developed based on about 600±66kcal, and the food ingredients were chopped. After cooking the menu developed based on the Sasang constitution, a sensory test was conducted. Five items, such as taste, appearance, aroma, texture, and overall preference, were evaluated on a 7-point scale. Sewage omegaenggul porridge among porridges for Taeyangin had the highest overall acceptance (6.17±0.7 points). Sukjihwang abalone black sesame porridge for Soyangin had the highest score(5.83±0.9 points). Sanyakyulmu hwangtae porridge for Taeeumin had the highest score(5.90±0.6 points). Ginseng chicken curry porridge among porridges for Soeumin had the highest overall preference in taste, appearance, aroma, texture, and overall acceptability (6.53±0.7 points). A limitation of this study was that the clinical trial could not be conducted on the elderly classified as Sasang constitution. In the future, the elderly will be able to have oriental medicinal foods according to the classification of Sasang constitution.

This study investigates ventilation and processing methods for industrial facilities by analyzing the distribution chart and concentration of fine particles generated. Analyses of fine particles were conducted in crushing rooms, sorting room, Primary manufacturing room and packing room, where the concentration of 0.3~10.0 μm particles were measured for 10 minutes during processing of herb medicines. The result revealed that particles with sizes greater than or equal to PM2.685 took up most of the space, and the concentration of fine particles (PM10) was 1,672.24 μg/m3 in 1th crushing room, 3,144.7 μg/m3 in crushing 2nd room, 262.45 μg/m3 in sorting room, prior to processing (2,302.3 μg/m3 for Aralia continentails and 5,564.9 μg/m3 for Poria cocos), 4,656.5 μg/m3 in Primary manufacturing room, and 20,213.3 μg/m3 in packing room. The concentration of fine particles generated during manufacture of herb medicines was, in comparison to the standard of 150 μg/m3 established in the Indoor Air Quality Control Act, 1.7 to 135 times higher. High concentrations of fine particles were found in all rooms, except for packing, even with partial ventilation. Also, it can be inferred that adequate deodorization system may be required in order to control unpleasant herb odors. Through this study, it is recommended that the use of scrubbers and concealment may facilitate control of fine particles containment.

It has been shown that all development targets, such as, straightness, precision, surface roughness, tensile strength, discoloration, noise, diameter range and maximum production speed have been satisfied through the performance test.
The influenza virus is an important respiratory risk affecting humans, and effective treatments are needed. Some oriental medicines are currently applied for treatment of common colds as well as influenza infection. Previous studies have reported that the therapeutic properties of MA-128 are effective for treatment of psoriasis antiasthmatic and atopic dermatitis. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic properties of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, for treatment of influenza virus infection by oral administration. MA-128 is an active natural biological compound from herbal-marine origin. The results showed that oral administration of MA-128 in mice could confer a survival benefit against Type A influenza virus infection. Daily oral administration of MA-128 resulted in delayed death in infected mice for three days against mouse adapted H3N2 (A/Philippines/2/82). However, it protected more than 60% of mice from lethal infection of 2009 pandemic H1N1 (A/Korea/CJ01/2009) influenza virus. In addition, lung viral titers were significantly reduced at seven days post infection (~100 times) compared with mock-treated mice and viruses were cleared at 9 dpi only in the MA-128 treated groups. This study demonstrated the potential of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, as an herbal remedy against influenza A viruses.
Objective : After arranged and estimated the result of Oriental Medical Health Examination Program, considered the way of improvement and how Oriental Medicine participate in industrial health service. Results : As a point at issue of occidental medicine examination, followings have been indicated, 1) Occidental medical examination is performed by mainly test and instrument and therefore, role of doctors could be excluded and it could be diagnosed only for target disease and 2) in Korea, it could not be conducted in public medical system and therefore improvement effect of public health promotion could not be made due to increase of total medical expenses and infirmity of post management. These points are substantial limit of paradigm resided in occidental medicine and also problem caused by unique characteristics of medical system of Korea. Conclusion : According to the estimate of present special health examination for workers, it seems that special health examination forworkers is a way of specializing the purpose of special health examination and searching the group that needs a special mediation for promoting the health and preventing the disease as a part of industrial health service that needs a connection with other industrial health service. A program replaced by the health effect-oriented methods that limits the purpose of special health examination be studied. After understood the potential health disorder of workers according to where they are exposed to, it also should be contained items for the disease which can be examined in health examination.
In the Oriental Medicine, the physical constitution of a human being can be classified into five characteristic elements. The remedy based on the five elements constitution has revealed excellent clinical effects so far. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to conduct job design researches considering the five elements constitution for improving the efficiency and safety of job. In this study, we examine whether the theory can be applied for job design through the experiment by ‘Digital-type Speed Anticipation Reaction Tester’ or not and suggest the desirable direction of job design.
Taking good care of the new born babies - from birth to 1st month - is very important and not able to neglected because it can has big effects on the health of rest of their lives. Traditional oriental medicine has a method using detoxicant to wipe out infant oral cavity. So, It must be helpful for baby's health if we use that kinds of drugs nowadays. In procedure of cutting off an umbilical cord, environment of the operating should be kept warm and tools are sterilized to prevent coldness invasion and infection through the cord. and even though the cutting done later, the cord should maintained always clean and warm until it perfectly cut away. The best time of first bath for the new born babies is after 24hours when infant vernix is naturally dried. Warm air and proper water temperature is recommended for bath. Too frequent baths are not recommended. A mother should be in state of relax and comfortable during feeding, and the maternal milk should be in proper temperature and proper quantity. When clothing the new born babies, it is important control body temperature. So it's better clothing them lightly, and protect the new born babies from intense cold and hot, and going out with them outside often for sunbathe when weather is sunny and nice. Development of the brain of the the new born babies is not completed, so keep away from strange things or person can scare babies. According to stated, taking care of the new born babies well, gives them healthy for whole life. So it won't be negligent, and I think all parents want to have babies should learn about new born babies enough.

For the Old Age, the old health and disease are not a future problem any more but present one. In many developed countries they try to make a many-sided research about the old health, senility disease. But in spite of these efforts, we did not make out the features of the old health and senility exactly, so produced a little. I think of the Oriental approach as a appropriate, synthetic view which can develop the new opportunity of solution to the old health and senility. Through the comparisons, contrasts and considerations between the Oriental-Western medicine about the old health and senility, I have investigated the medical course and I came to the conclusion as follows; 1. Both -the Oriental and the Western- define that senility is a inevitable phenomenon in any creature and is the natural phenomenon that weaken the function of the internal organs little by little in the body. So after we classify it into physiological, pathological aging, we research it. 2. In the Western medicine, they have made progress about the cause of senility but their researches are analytic, fragmental and unessential. Considering the general characteristics that senility is occurred in all creatures, the synthetic viewpoint of the Oriental medicine is more desirable. 3. In classifying the old disease the Western medicine makes a list analytically but only apply clinical field established to the old, while the Oriental medicine don't classify specially and apply the established symptom name. When we consider the traits of the disease of the old, functions and activities-centered viewpoint, that is to say, point of view of the Oriental medicine, are more useful than disease-centered. 4. In treating of the old disease, the Western medicine is limited to the popular method, while the Oriental medicine approach represent the various method based on variable of vital essence and energy. the Oriental medicine, however, has defects that haven't developed the technique and biomarker which can measure the function of creature. But I am sure that analytical research of the Western medicine have scientific advantages. 5. the Oriental-Western medical considerations on the old health and senility have a lot of parts which cooperated each other and will be a clue that can solve the mystery of lives.
Concentrating on the non-musculoskeletal patients and revising the overall outlines of the phases recognizable in biomedical discourse, the present study investigated the linguistic phase markers that characterized the initial and the follow-up phases and the mini-phases in them, which added up to the characteristic major phases in Korean Oriental Medical discourse (KOMD). Focusing on the centripetal force of the patient’s constitution on KOMD, it proposed distinguishing an initial session from a follow-up session due to the weight on the former for identification of the patient’s constitution. Within the first session, the present study illustrated that the doctor adopted the non-proximal temporal expressions to mark the phase boundaries in an effort to identify the constitution. Such phase markers included habitual or iterative frequency expressions, distal temporal adverbials, experiential constructions without ‘recently’ or ‘nowadays,’ and the habitual present. Subsequently, the study turned to a follow-up session and demonstrated that the doctor adopted proximal temporal expressions in order to demarcate the phase boundaries. Such phase markers included proximal temporal expressions, the temporal adverbials that highlighted the difference between the pre- and post-treatment, and explicit comparatives and equatives. Consequently, the phase models revised for KOMD were in operation, structuring both the major phases and the mini phases in them around the patient’s biophysical, psychosocial, and reactional traits. That said, as Mishler’s (1984) study demonstrated, it worked as long as the interaction was doctor-centered. When the patient’s role in the phases was brought into light, however, the model would invite further revisions.
The study aims to investigate the effects of brand value in the oriental medicine cosmetics market, as perceived by consumers, on brand satisfaction, brand loyalty, and purchase intention. The subjects were Korean and Chinese female consumers, the primary consumers of oriental medicine cosmetics. A total of 615 sample surveys were analyzed from consumers who have experience using oriental medicine cosmetics. Out of the sample, 264 respondents had used Oriental medicine cosmetics for one to four years, 199 respondents for more than four years, and 108 respondents for three months to a year. Based on existing research, we categorized the value of oriental medicine cosmetics brands into four dimensions: emotional, social, functional, and epistemic values. Whether brand satisfaction and brand loyalty can be mediating factors in brand value influencing purchase intention was inspected through several hypotheses. As a result, except for the epistemic value factor, the brand value factors were found to have a positive effect on brand satisfaction and brand loyalty. In addition, emotional, social, and functional brand value factors influence purchase intention through brand loyalty, and it was found that brand loyalty is an important factor for oriental medicine cosmetics consumers, however mediator effects did not appear for brand satisfaction.
