        PURPOSES : This study proposes brief guidelines for traffic engineers in the field to refer to when operating tram priority signals based on the "early green" and "green extension" methods. METHODS : A set of VISSIM simulation analyses was conducted considering various traffic and control conditions in a hypothetical corridor consisting of two signalized intersections. The traffic conditions were varied at five different levels. The control conditions were varied at twenty-five levels by changing the tram priority traffic signal control parameters, i.e., the early green unit time and green extension unit time. A total of 125 simulation runs were from these combinations. A set of optimal signal timings for ordinary non-tram vehicles was prepared with TRANSYT-7F and implemented for the simulation. A tram priority signal control module based on VISVAP was exclusively developed for this study. RESULTS : As expected, no specific trend was found in the relationship between the two tram priority control parameters (early green time and green extension time). However, a trend was observed when assuming that the early green and green extension operations were mutually exclusive. Specifically, an inverse trend appeared between the tram priority control parameter values and level of congestion according to the performance measure (average network delay). CONCLUSIONS : For the early green control parameters, it is better to provide six seconds when undersaturated and four seconds when near-saturated. For the green extension control parameter, four seconds is suitable.

        Tram had been widely used in South Korea until 1960s; however, introduction of automobiles made the tram disappear. KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) has developed wireless tram in order to enhance transporting capacity in large city. Continuously supported and embedded track system supports load from a wireless tram. The track system is composed of concrete slab or precast concrete and groove rail. Surface of the track is usually constructed by asphalt concrete. The asphalt concrete layer is about 5 cm in depth and constructed between rails of which width is 1435 mm. Adhesion between concrete slab and asphalt concrete layer and constructability, which affects performance, were investigated through actual construction and testing at test-bed. Four different types of mixtures and structures were used. After construction, adhesion tests were performed including basic material tests. Guss-asphalt with SMA showed the best adhesion and constructability.

        The first tram in korea was commended the operation from 1899 to 1968 as a core role of public transportation. However, tram recently is being recognized as an alternative against a traffic congestion, a super-aged society and an environmental pollution problem. Because of these advantages, we are trying to introduce tram in korea. The efforts to introduce trams have focused on the economic analysis for tram construction. But we must be interested in tram operational safety. Early opening tram accidents could affect a negative impact on the additional tram introduction. We are trying to introduce trams in Daejeon, Wi-Rye and Su-won. In this paper, I want to check the safety issues in tram operation phase.

        PURPOSES :This study was initiated to estimate the utilities of usage attributes of BRT and Bimodal Trams using a conjoint analysis method in order to identify the important features pertaining to the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams.METHODS :For this purpose, important attributes and those level in the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong were identified. Next, a profile questionnaire pertaining to BRT and Bimodal Trams was designed for the conjoint analysis, and a survey was conducted in the city of Sejong. Using SPSS software, conjoint analysis was performed to identify the important attributes vis`-a-vis the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong. Finally, the utilities for individual attributes were calculated based on the models estimated by the conjoint analysis.RESULTS :The results of the conjoint analysis were used to identify the important attributes. With regard to the usage of BRT, users indicated that fare was the most important attribute with the highest utility. In the case of Bimodal Trams, the users indicated that the number of seats and internal environment were the most important attributes with the highest utilities.CONCLUSIONS :Based on the results of the conjoint analysis, the important attributes pertaining to the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong were identified. Our study indicates that BRT in the city of Sejong needs to be upgraded to improve the utilities of the important attributes. Currently, Bimodal Trams has not been introduced completely in the city of Sejong. However, in the future, when the introduction of Bimodal Trams is completed, the important attributes should be emphasized in order to improve the quality of its service.

        This paper reviews the one of problems that may occure for the tram operating in Korea, it's a free-riding problem, I analyzed the feasibility of combining the introduction of world-class technology solution "IT". It is under review the introduction of tram in Su-won city, Chang-won city, Wi-Rye new town. Free-riding is one of the biggest issues of any agency that operates the public transportation system. It has been acting as the main factors threatening the financial integrity of the operating agency, and the ratio of free-riding is further increased. In this paper, I want to build a foundation for the development of the system by analyzing the economic feasibility for the introduction of free-riding prevention system.

        The light rail transits, in theses days, are planed to be introduced in Korea. However, there are more and more problems regarding the noise and vibration from the trackway. In order to reduced the vibration and noise, various method have been applied. Among those methods, it is that one of the most effective ways is to apply the floating mat underneath the slab track. In this stud, a numerical modeling to calculate the effect of the floating mat is to be used as well as the performance of the floating track.

        After test track was constructed in 2009, maintenance works have performed for 14 months to check the stability of station for bimodal tram. Consequently, station’s main body, infrastructure system as gate and ticket machine, passenger safety system, service information and guidance system, and operation management system have no problems except for minor problems such as main body’s acrylic products falling.

        The innovative and environment-friendly tram vehicle and it’s trackway system are developed based on the government’s R&D funding. Accordingly, in order for the test drive of developed vehicle, a tram trackway as test-bed, is being constructed in Osong, where is located inside Korea Rail Network Authority in Chungcheongbuk-Do. In this paper, the construction method of trackway for wireless and low-floored tram vehicle is introduced for the first time in Korea.

        본 연구에서는 현재 신교통 수단으로 연구 중인 바이모달 트램의 전용 교량을 개발하는데 있어 바이모달 트램 운행 특성을 고려한 실물크기의 중공화된 프리캐스트 바닥판을 새롭게 설계․제작하여, 신뢰성 있는 비선형 유한요소해석 프로그램(RCAHEST)을 통한 해석 결과와의 비교․분석을 바탕으로 적합성과 타당성을 검증하였다. 하중 재하 위치를 변수로 실험을 수행하여 설계 하중에 비하여 약 8∼9배의 충분한 안전율을 확보하고 있음을 확인하였으며, 본 연구에서 적용한 재료적 비선형성을 고려한 비선형 유한요소해석 프로그램을 통한 해석 결과 역시 콘크리트의 균열 발생 및 철근의 항복을 포함한 파괴시까지의 극한 거동 특성을 비교적 적절히 평가하고 있음을 알 수 있다.
