        This case report describes the effectiveness of cervical corrective exercises in a patient with cervical radiculopathy (CR) who experienced radicular pain, upper limb paresis, and limited functional activity. A 39-year-old male with cervical radiculopathy performed the cervical corrective exercises for reducing pain. Pain intensity, cervical posture, and active range of motion of cervical intersegmental spine motion were measured baseline, after 4 weeks, and after 8 weeks with self-reported questionnaire and radiographs. After 8 weeks of intervention, the patient demonstrated alleviated radicular symptoms, improved neck posture and active range of flexion and extension of the cervical intersegmental spine. Especially in the angle between the cervical vertebra 6 and 7, the angle was changed from -4.69° to 3.30° during resting position after intervention. The present case indicates that the cervical corrective exercises might be a possible treatment to effectively reduce radicular symptoms, improve neck posture, and active cervical intersegmental motion for patient with CR.

        The theory of visuo-vestibular conflict is the most commonly accepted to explain motion sickness. Visual, vestibular and proprioceptive afferences are in involved in balance control and this function can be improved by physical and sport activity. The purpose of the present survey was to investigate the relationships between motion sickness susceptibility in elite gymnastic & figure skating player physical activity and especially acrobatic exercise. We quantified vestibular-ocular reflex(VOR) in intensity in 7 figure skating and 7 age matched control subjects. Sensory organization test were by posturography in neuroCom EquiTest and vestibular stimulation consisted of four cycles of sinusodial rotation(.01, 04, .16, .64Hz, 60°/s) and was tested by system 2000 micromedical, Chatham, IL. The results of the study were as follow: The results are as follow. Balance score in condition 5, 6 were significantly higher than control. During sinusodial stimulations, the skaters’VOR, as compared with that of the controls, demonstrated a gain that significantly lower(p<.01), than in control one. Quantitative alterations in VOR parameters observed in gymnastic and figure skaters probably result from vestibular habituation induced by repeated unusual stimulations when practicing.

        This study aimed to determine the effect of lower trapezius muscle strengthening exercises on pain, neck disability index (NDI), cervical range of motion (ROM), and lower trapezius muscle strength in patients with unilateral neck pain. Following baseline measurements, the subjects (N=40) with unilateral neck pain were randomized into one of two 5 weeks exercise intervention groups: a experimental group (EG, n1=20) that received strength training of the lower trapezius muscles or a control group (CG, n2=20) that received routine physical therapy program. Each group participated in the intervention for 30 minutes, 3 times a week, for 5 weeks. All participants performed 2 repetitions of each intervention per day. The numeric pain rating scale for pain, NDI, ROM, and lower trapezius strength were recorded both pre- and post-intervention for both groups. Paired t-tests were used to determine significant changes post-intervention compared with pre-intervention and independent t-tests were used to analyze differences in the dependent variables between the 2 groups. After the 5-weeks intervention, both groups experienced significantly decreased pain and disability level (p<.05) and significantly increased cervical flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation ROM (p<.05). The EG that received strength training of the lower trapezius muscles showed greater improvements in pain and functional disability level, cervical rotation, and lower trapezius strength than the CG (p<.05). These results suggest that a lower trapezius strengthening exercises reduce neck pain and neck disability level and enhance cervical ROM and lower trapezius strength level in patients with unilateral neck pain.

        Artificial insemination (AI) has been performed widely in swine industry using fresh liquid sperm instead of frozen type of sperm. However fresh sperm are not able to preserve more than three days with optimal motility and other sperm parameters for the successful fertilization, since in vitro stored sperm has an oxidative stress that resulted increase of abnormality and acrosome reation. To overcome these major problems, novel preservative formulation is needed to neutralize the oxidative stress and to provide suitable physiological environment for sperm in in vitro. In this study, naturally derived substances such as Poncirus trifoliate (Trifoliate orange), Garcinia mangostana (Mangosteen), pig placenta and testis extracts were tested as sperm preservative agents. Placenta extracts (PE), trifoliate orange extracts (TOE), testes extracts (TE) and mangosteen extracts (ME) were applied to analyze specific parameters for sperm motion characteristics individually and combinatorial. Each individual extract treatment can accelerate the sperm motility but noticeably TOE, TE and ME treatments exhibited the considerable and significant preservation of sperm motility. PE, TE and ME showed a significant (p<0.05) increase in ALH after one week. Further we evaluated the five different combinations of these extracts on sperm motility and its motion characteristics. Surprisingly even after one week ME, TOE and TE combination significantly preserved the sperm motility about 75%. It is noteworthy that unlike individual extract treatment, combination of ME, TOE and TE simultaneously protect the sperm motility and its motion characteristics. Taken together these data conclude that addition of ME, TOE and TE can be effective for preservation of pig sperm.

        Robots in various types carry and assemble parts through repeatedly and accurately moving to stored locations by combining linear motions. And, linear systems are used in orthogonal axes of robots and driven via ball screws, such as 2-axis cartesian coordinate robot in this paper. This paper presents the effect of the linear motion guide that is used in 2nd axis in 2-axis cartesian coordinate robot. Some simulation results show that the linear motion guide influence greatly in robot performance such as the nominal life of linear guide. When use LM guide that have capacity near in 2nd axis, this paper show that the nominal life on LM block of 1st axis increases 37.4% and that the specification of 2nd axis LM guide influences greatly the nominal life of 1st axis LM block.

        The objective of this study was to examine the effect of various discontinuous Percoll washing conditions on motile sperm recovery rate and motion kinematics. Frozen semen samples from 3 bulls (0.5 ml plastic straws, 6% glycerol in egg yolk-Tris-glycerol extender) were thawed in 37℃ water bath for 1 min. After thawing, the mixed semen samples were randomly allocated to 12 treatment groups. Briefly, the spermatozoa were centrifuged for three different time lengths (10, 20, and 30 min) at two gravities (300×g and 700×g) through two concentrations of discontinuous Percoll density gradient of 1 ml 90%: 1 ml 45% Percoll and 2 ml 90%: 2 ml 45% Percoll to remove extender, debris, and dead spermatozoa. Motile sperm recovery rate and motion kinematics were evaluated by computer assisted sperm analyzer using Makler counting chamber. Sperm motility (%) and motile sperm recovery rate showed similar pattern in all treatment groups. However, sperm motility (%) and motile sperm recovery rate were highest at 700×g for 30 min through a discontionous Percoll density gradient of 1 ml 90%: 1 ml 45% Percoll. There were no significant differences in motion kinematics after various Percoll washings. These results suggest that force of centrifugation, centrifugation time, and Percoll volume significantly affect motile sperm recovery rate.

        Endocrine disruptors bind to hormone receptors on sperm membrane, therefore spermatozoa are potentially a useful model for examining estrogenic activities of endocrine disruptors. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of two xenoestrogenic compounds [genistein (Gen) and 4-tert-octylphenol (OP)] to those of two steroids [estrogen (E2) and progesterone (P4)] on boar sperm % motility and motion kinematics of in vitro. Porcine spermatozoa were incubated with various concentrations (0.001~100 μM) of each chemical for 15 or 30 min, and then assessed % motility and sperm motion kinematics using computer assisted sperm analyzer (CASA). Each chemical decreased sperm % motility, and OP decreased VSL and VAP compared with untreated control(p<0.05). E2 stimulated the motion kinematic changes except VCL. Moreover, Gen had effects on VCL and VAP alterations after 30 min incubation. In summary, since all chemicals studied effectively altered sperm % motility and motion kinematics, it was concluded that porcine spermatozoa could be a useful model for in vitro screening of potential endocrine disruptors.

        본 연구에서는 입체 영상이 가지는 특성과 시청환경의 특성에 따라 입체 영상을 시청할 때 발생할 수 있는 시각적 피로도를 체계적으로 살펴보기 위해 깊이방향의 운동속도와 응시거리 각각을 입체 영상과 시청환경의 대표적인 특성으로 삼고 각 요인에 의해 발생되는 시각적 피로도를 측정하였다. 시각적 피로도는 눈통증 요인, 시각적 스트레스, 어지러움 요인, 신체 통증 요인, 상흐림 요인으로 구성된 피로도 측정도구를 이용하여 주관적인 시각적 피로도를 측정하였다. 실험 1에서는 깊이 방향의 운동속도를 변화시킨 자극을 40분간 제시하면서 10분, 20분, 40분에 시각적 피로도를 측정하였다. 측정결과 전체 피로도 점수는 시청시간이 증가함에 따라 높아졌지만 운동 속도에 따른 차이를 보이지 않았다. 다섯 개의 하위척도들 중 어지러움 하위척도 점수에 서만 운동 속도가 증가할수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 실험 2에서는 동일한 입체 영상을 응시거리만 변화시켜가면서 시각적 피로도를 측정하였다. 전체 피로도 점수는 시청시간이 증가함에 따라 높아졌지만 응시거리에 따른 차이는 발견되지 않았다. 다섯 개의 하위 척도들 중 상흐림 하위척도 점수에서만 응시거리가 멀어질수록 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 입체 영상의 특성이나 시청환경에 따라 시각피로도가 변화될 수 있음을 보여주며, 시각피로도를 발생시키는 요인에 따라 각기 다른 종류의 시각피로도가 발생할 수 있음을 보여준다.

        The range of motion (ROM) of ankle dorsiflexion in older women was associated with gait abnormalities and the risk of falls. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-stretching exercise on the flexibility of the plantar flexors of the ankle and the characteristics of gait in healthy elderly women. Fifteen participants were assigned randomly into an exercise (n=8) or control (n=7) group. The exercise group attended a self-stretching program approximately 30 minutes for 3 days per week for 4 weeks. The active ankle dorsiflexion ROM and gait measurements were taken prior to beginning the stretching program and 1 day after the last stretching day. Results showed that the active ankle dorsiflexion ROM was significantly increased in the exercise group than in the control group after the stretching program (p<.05). However, gait parameters, including gait speed, cadence, and stride length were not significantly different between the two groups (p>.05). The results suggest that a 4-week self-stretching program is capable of provoking a significant increase in ankle dorsiflexion ROM in elderly, community-dwelling women. Additional research is needed to investigate the effect of gait-specific exercise combined with stretching exercise on gait ability.

        목적 : 뇌졸중 환자를 대상으로 실시한 강제유도운동치료(Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy)가 환측 상지의 운동 형상학적 변화를 유발하는 지 알아보기 위하여 수행되었다. 연구방법 : 8명의 편마비 환자들이 주 5회의 강제유도운동치료에 2주 동안 참여하였다. 훈련에 의한 상지의 운동 수행동안의 운동 형상학적 변수들의 변화를 평가하기 위하여 대상자들이 컵 옮기기와 연필 옮기기 과제를 수행하는 동안 삼차원 동작분석 시스템 (CMS-HS Zebris uMedizintechnik GmbH, Isny, Germany)을 이용하여 어깨, 팔굽, 손목 관절에서 움직임을 분석하였다. 운동 형상학적 변수들인 동작의 순발력과 부드러움, 그리고 이동거리의 효율성을 측정하였다. 순발력은 컵(또는 연필)을 잡는 동작과 내려놓는 동작 두 구간에서 최대 속도 도달시간으로 측정하였고, 움직임의 부드러움을 평가하기 위하여 각 관절 움직임의 속도반전의 횟수로 움직임의 변동(fluctuation)정도를 측정하였다. 또한 이동거리의 효율성은 실제 관절별 움직임 궤도의 변화량을 측정하였다. 결과 : 1) 관절별 최대 속도 도달시간은 컵 옮기기 과제 중 컵을 잡는 동작과 내려놓는 동작 두 구간에서 어깨 관절, 팔굽 관절, 손목 관절 모두 치료 전․후로 유의하게 감소하였다(p<.05). 반면에 연필 옮기기 과제에서는 내려놓는 동작에서 어깨 관절에서만 유의한 감소를 보였다(p=.05). 2) 속도반전 횟수는 컵 옮기기 과제에서 모든 측정 관절의 전후 방향에서 유의미한 감소를 보였으며(p<.05), 어깨 관절에서는 수평 방향과 수직 방향에서 역시 유의미한 감소를 보였다(p<.05). 또한 연필 옮기기 과제에서 손목 관절의 전후, 수평 요인을 제외한 전 관절의 축 방향에서 유의미한 감소를 보였다. 3) 관절별 움직임 궤도의 변화량은 컵 옮기기 과제에서 어깨 관절과 팔굽 관절에서 유의미한 감소를 보였으며(p<.05), 연필 옮기기 과제에서는 전 관절에서 유의미한 감소를 보였다(p<.05). 결론 : 본 연구에서 강제유도운동치료는 삼차원 동작분석 평가를 통하여 환측 상지의 다양한 관절에서 순발력과 부드러움, 효율성의 향상을 보였다. 본 연구의 결과는 편마비 측 상지의 운동역학적 변수들의 향상을 객관적으로 보임으로서 상지 강제유도운동치료의 치료적 활용에 대한 근거를 제시한다.

        본 연구에서는 가상현실사용자들이 모션베이스를 사용함에 따라 가상현실에 대한 평가가 어떻게 달라지는지를 조사하였다. 33명의 피험자를 대상으로 모션베이스 평가설문과 자기보고를 통해 가상현실에서의 현실감, 재미, 멀미감을 조사하고 가상주행 전, 중, 후에 내장근전위, 피부전도도, 말초체온, 말초혈류량, 심박률, 눈 깜박임의 생리신호를 측정, 분석함으로써 모션베이스 유무에 따른 심리ㆍ생리적인 변수들에서의 차이를 알아보았다 모든 피험자는 2주 간격으로 모션베이스 사용조건과 모션베이스를 사용하지 않는 조건에서 두 번 가상현실을 경험하였다. 가상현실에 대한 현실감, 재미항목에서 모두 모션베이스를 사용한 조건이 높은 점수를 나타냈다. 또한 모션베이스를 사용한 조건에서 멀미보고수가 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. Tachyarrythmia의 상대파워 변화량과 PPG 최대진폭의 평균변화량 비교는 모션베이스를 사용한 가상현실 조건이 생리적인 요동을 적게 일으키는 것으로 나타났다 이러한 결과들은 시각제시기와 동기화된 모션베이스를 도입함으로써, 가상현실에 대한 현실감은 높이면서 멀미감은 줄일 수 있다는 가능성을 보여준다.

        This study was designed to determine the effect of ankle taping and short period of walking on the treadmill on the range of motion (ROM) and proprioception at the ankle joint. Twenty healthy male subjects (mean age=24.2 yr) participated in this study. Goniometry and videotape replaying method were used to measure the ankle ROM. Passive sagittal and frontal plane motions were measured. The difference in degree between the stimulus point and the reproduced point was defined as an angular error. The measurements were performed at four different phases: pre-taping (PRT), post-taping immediately (POT), post-5 minute walking with taping (P5M), and post-10 minute walking with taping (P10M). The ankle of dominant limb was taped by a certified athletic trainer using a closed basket weave technique. Participants walked on the treadmill at 2.5 mph. The results showed that the mean of the sagittal plane motion at PRT, POT, P5M, and P10M was 53.0, 30.5, 36.2, and 40.2 degrees, respectively. The frontal plane motion at PRT, POT, P5M, and P10M was 33.6, 13.9, 15.7, and 18.6 degrees, respectively. The angular error at PRT, POT, P5M, and P10M was 5.5, 1.6, 1.8, and 1.9 degrees, respectively. After 10 minutes of walking, the sagittal plane motion and frontal plane motion was increased by 9.7 and 4.7 degrees compared with POT, respectively. The proprioception was significantly improved after the application of ankle taping. Both the restriction of frontal plane motion and proprioception improvement at the ankle joint may contribute to ankle stability during walking.

        For spinal flexibility measurements to be meaningful to clinicians or researchers, they must have a normative information and an understanding of how different variables affect spinal range of motion (ROM). Normal spinal ROM measurements are influenced to differing degrees by many factors. These factors include age, gender, time of day, leisure activities, previous history of low back pain, warming up, and the techniques with which normative data are collected. The additional variables of standing height, ratio of standing height to sitting height, and obesity had not been previously studied extensively and were shown to have a significant effect on flexibility in the sagittal plane. These relationship cannot be explained easily. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between spinal flexibility and individual factors (weight, standing height, and ratio of standing height to sitting height) that influence it. Fifteen healthy subjects between the ages of 20 and 27 years were studied. Two physical therapists measured independently the spinal forward bending ROM in the sagittal plane by Remodified Schober test and Finger-to-floor test. In order to determine the statistical significance of the result the Pearson's correlation was applied at the .05 level of significance. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and weight. 2) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and standing height. 3) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and ratio of standing height to sitting height.

        Earthquake resistant design is evolutionary‘ and, a1though great progr않s has been made since seismic design was made mandatory by building α성es, it is still not completely understαxi . 1n this paper, a 10 story steel building is analyzed. and its results are compared by applying two different actual ground motions to the structure. 12 sets of Lorna Prieta, Ca1ifornia, earthquake data which occured in 1989‘ and recorded 7.1 on the Richter scale 킹ld 9 sets of Valparaiso, Chile, earthquake data which occured in 1985, and recorded 7.8 on the Richter scale were scaled to zone 2B level of UBC-88. By applying earthquake ground motions which had similar Richter scale magnitude, it was found that the Chile earthquake which had long duration of ground motion affected about twκe bigger thar: that of California earthquake which had relatively short duration of ground motion. 1n addition to the 야ak ground motion, the duration of the ground motion is a very important factor in structural design

        This paper presents a parametric study of the effect of vertical ground motion on a simple RC frame with different geometric configurations including span length, span ratio and story height. The effects of a suite of earthquake ground motion records on RC frames are presented and the results are compared with the case of horizontal-only excitation. The structural response was investigated at both the global and the local levels. Interstory drift was considered as a global failure criterion, while the curvature ductility and shear capacity of structural members were monitored to assess failure on a local level. The effect of vertical ground motion on axial force and shear capacity is also investigated.

        예부선이 항행할 경우 부선의 회두운동으로 인하여 예선의 조종성능에 제한을 받기 때문에 부선의 회두운동을 감소시켜야 안전한 예항업무를 이행할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 예인삭의 길이, 예인속도, 브라이들의 유무 및 브라이들의 길이에 따른 부선의 회두운동을 살펴보기 위하여 선수형상이 다른 두 개의 부선 모델을 대상으로 수조실험을 실행하였다. 수조실험은 외력의 영향이 없는 정수중 상태에서 실행하였으며, 예인삭은 와이어 로프를 사용하였다. 예인삭의 길이는 부선의 전장(L)을 기준으로 하여 1L 및 2L로 하였으며, 실험 결과 부선의 회두 운동은 예인삭의 길이가 길어질수록 부선의 회두각도가 작아지며, 예인속도는 회두각도에 큰 차이를 발생시키지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 예인삭만 연결한 것보다 예인삭에 브라이들을 연결하여 브라이들의 길이를 길게 해주는 것이 효과적으로 부선의 회두운동을 감소시킬 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 예부선의 안정성 확보를 위해서는 예인삭의 길이를 길게 하고 브라이들을 설치하여 예항하는 것이 안전예항 업무에 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

        일반적으로 메타센터높이가 작은 선박이나 고속선의 경우에는 조종운동 시 큰 횡동요각을 유발하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이러한 선박의 조종성능 예측 시에는 조종운동에 횡동요의 영향을 고려해야만 보다 정확한 결과를 얻을 수가 있다 즉, 조종운동을 다루는 전후동요, 좌우동요, 선수동요에 횡동요를 포함시키는 4자유도 운동방정식이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 지금까지 여러 연구자들에 의해 제안되어 있는 4자유도 조종운동 수학모델을 검토 분석하고, 이들 실험자료를 재정리하여 보다 간결하고 실용적인 새로운 수학모델을 제안한다. 아울러 기존의 복잡한 수학모델과 새로운 수차모델에 의한 조종운동 시뮬레이션을 각각 수행하고 그 결과를 비교 검토하여 본 연구에서 제안한 수학모델의 유용성을 검증한다.
