The purpose of this study is to investigate whether, and in what ways, high school students’ aesthetic sensibility, critical thinking, and creative thinking develop through the ‘Reading English Literature’ course. To this end, this study adopted a mixed-methods approach. Thirty-nine students participated in response-based activities over 17-week period. Pre- and post-instruction competency assessments were administered, and paired-samples t-tests were conducted to examine changes in the three target competencies. In addition, classroom observations and individual interviews were conducted with 16 participants to explore students’ experiences and perceptions. The results revealed that the three competencies developed through close and dynamic interaction. Critical thinking and creative thinking evolved in a complementary relationship, grounded in aesthetic sensibility. Overall, the findings suggest that the competency-based ‘Reading English Literature’ course can help students grow into intellectually and emotionally mature individuals equipped not only with language proficiency but also competencies in deep thinking and empathy.

전통적으로 성전은 하나님이 거하시는 예배의 중심 공간으로 이해 되어 왔다. 그러나 솔로몬의 성전 봉헌 기도의 분석에서 확인된 것은 이방인(노크리, nokṟî, נכרי /미래세대)을 환대하고 하나님의 이름을 열방에 선포하는 선교적 공간으로 확인되었다. 아울러 예수의 성전 정화 사건을 통해 성전 개념이 건축물에 국한되지 않고 “자신이 성전 됨”(요 2:21)이라는 선언 안에서 하나님의 임재가 개인과 공동체로 확장됨을 통하여 성전은 배타적 제의 공간이 아니라 포용과 환대를 통해 열방을 향해 열려 있는 하나님의 선교가 실현되는 곳이다. 이는 다음과 같은 두 가지의 결과를 얻게 되었다. 첫째, ‘만민이 기도하는 집’은 특정 장소에 한정된 제의적 공간이 아니라 우주적이고 개방적인 하나님의 임재의 공간이다. 둘째, 교회는 예배와 선교를 함께 수행하도 록 미래세대를 환대와 선교의 동반자로 세워 신앙을 계승하는 곳이다. 따라서 교회는 자기 보존에서 벗어나 미래세대를 하나님의 선교에 동참하는 주체로 세우기 위한 선교적 비전으로 제시해야 한다.

This study aims to develop and evaluate a GPT-based English learning system that creates reading materials tailored to the Korean middle school first-grade English curriculum. To this end, this study adopted OpenAI’s MyGPTs platform and created the AI system through eight different developmental versions by iterating prompts and uploading relevant knowledge files. To evaluate its linguistic appropriateness, this study generated reading passages at three difficulty levels (low, medium, high) and compared them with eight textbook texts using seventeen key indices from Coh-Metrix 3. The results show that GPT-generated texts at the medium level most closely resembled actual textbook passages in sentence count, syntactic simplicity, lexical familiarity, and overall readability. Low-level outputs achieved the highest readability and concreteness scores, indicating suitability for beginner EFL learners, while high-level outputs featured greater syntactic complexity, longer sentences, and richer lexical diversity. The study also identified limitations in GPT’s consistent adherence to prescribed difficulty parameters, text-type variety, and adaptive difficulty adjustment based on learner performance.

This preliminary study examined how a professional development (PD) program supported Korean EFL teachers in integrating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into collaborative reading and writing instruction. Fifteen in-service secondary school teachers participated in an 11-session PD program that introduced GenAI-supported instructional models and guided teachers to adapt them through micro-teaching, reflection, and classroom application. Data were collected through pre- and postintervention surveys and three rounds of reflective journals. Quantitative findings revealed no significant improvement in perceived ease of using GenAI for collaborative reading. However, teachers reported significantly greater ease of use in collaborative writing, presentation, and form-focused instruction (FFI). Qualitative results identified recurring challenges—such as role imbalance, copy-and-paste reliance, and lack of scaffolding—which prompted teachers to revise the pre-existing instructional models into more structured ones (e.g., Expert Jigsaw Reading, role-based writing cycles). The findings demonstrate how PD programs can develop teacher agency by translating abstract GenAI principles into classroom-ready, pedagogically sustainable practices.

This study investigates the effects of a college EFL reading course on learners’ language proficiency and critical thinking habits. Two cloze tests and the K Critical Disposition Test were administered to treatment and control groups at the beginning and end of the semester, and TOEIC scores were used to validate the proficiency measures. The treatment group also completed an end-of-semester questionnaire on perceived course impact. Both groups showed significant proficiency gains, but the treatment group did not show greater improvement than the control group. However, only the treatment group exhibited significant development in critical dispositions. A comparison of assessment results and self-reported perceptions suggests that learners’ judgments may not reliably reflect actual learning outcomes. These findings suggest that while deep reflection and discussion on English texts can enhance critical dispositions, achieving gains in proficiency and critical thinking simultaneously within a single course appears difficult. They also suggest the necessity of incorporating learning-based assessments into program evaluations to supplement subjective evaluations.

본 연구는 모리스 샌닥의 대표 그림책 『괴물들이 사는 나라』, 『깊은 밤 부엌에서』, 『잃어버린 동생을 찾아서』를 바흐친의 카니발 개념 중 ‘일 탈’과 ‘전복’을 중심 분석 틀로 삼아 유아의 자아 형성과 해방적 상상력 에 대한 기여를 고찰하였다. 샌닥의 그림책은 유아가 현실에서 겪는 억 압과 규범, 금기를 상상 세계에서 전복하고 일탈함으로써 자율성과 정체 성을 탐색하도록 돕는다. 본 연구는 샌닥의 작품이 전통적 도덕 중심 그 림책과 달리 유아를 능동적 해석자이자 감정의 주체로 제시하는 전복적 서사를 실현하고 있음을 밝혔다. 이는 그림책을 유아교육에서 자율성과 창의성을 신장시키는 해방적 실천의 장으로 확장할 수 있는 이론적 기반 을 제공한다.

This study proposes an immersive storytelling reading platform integrating Generative AI and interactive Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance children’s reading engagement. The platform combines style-transfer-based object detection, LangChain-driven real-time story generation, and Unity-based AR interactions, offering a multi-sensory reading experience via hand tracking and dynamic text. Experiments showed a 21.6% improvement in object detection accuracy, and EEG results revealed increased theta/beta power and suppressed alpha power when using the proposed platform, indicating enhanced attention. These findings highlight the educational potential of interactive reading environments for the digital-native generation.

The current study examined the potential language and literacy factors that best explain the L2 reading comprehension abilities of Korean EFL learners. A total of 70 intermediate-level Korean high school students participated in this study and were tested on L1 and L2 reading comprehension, L2 vocabulary, and L2 syntactic knowledge. The findings indicated that, between L1 reading skills and L2 proficiency, L2 proficiency played a more crucial role in predicting L2 reading comprehension. Throughout the analyses, the linguistic threshold hypothesis was supported, demonstrating a threshold level of language proficiency above which learners can effectively transfer their L1 reading skills to L2 reading comprehension. These results highlight the important pedagogical implications for the critical role of L2 proficiency and show the threshold level of proficiency necessary for Korean EFL learners. The insights gained from this study are expected to provide targeted instructional strategies and recommendations, aimed at effectively supporting EFL learners with diverse skills and abilities.

포스트아포칼립스 소설은 SF의 하위 장르로, 최근 디지털 시대에 접어들 며 빠르게 대중적 인기를 얻고 있으며, 이 장르를 바탕으로 한 영화들도 전 세계적으로 호응을 얻고 있다. 그러나 종말(apocalypse)의 개념은 종교만큼이나 오래된 것이다. 인류 는 역사적으로 종말 서사에 지속적인 관심을 가져왔으며, 이러한 서사들은 시대의 철학 에 따라 진화해왔다. 본 논문은 코맥 매카시의 소설 􋺷더 로드􋺸에 나타나는 포스트아포칼 립스 세계의 서사적 패턴과 재현 양상을 포스트모더니즘 이론을 바탕으로 분석한다.

Oral language comprehension (OLC) and vocabulary depth are widely recognized as key predictors of reading comprehension. However, research has either provided a limited representation of OLC or failed to acknowledge the distinctive predictive nature of vocabulary depth. This study investigates the combined contributions of OLC, conceptualized as a unified composite of foundational language variables and compares its effects on reading comprehension to vocabulary depth, while accounting for writing abilities. A total of 169 advanced Korean university EFL students were tested on listening comprehension, grammar knowledge, vocabulary breadth, vocabulary depth, and reading comprehension in English. SEM analyses revealed that both OLC and vocabulary depth made unique contributions to reading comprehension, with OLC demonstrating relatively stronger predictive power. Writing abilities did not show significant effects when OLC and vocabulary depth were considered in the same model. These findings underscore the independent predictive roles of OLC and vocabulary depth in L2 reading comprehension and highlight the importance of integrating these constructs into EFL pedagogical practices.

이 논문은 에밀리 디킨슨의 시에서 성경의 자연스러운 인용과 영적 진리의 탐색을 왜곡하거나 의도적으로 간과한 일부 비판들을 수정하고자 한다. “원주,” “중심,” “산문,” “가능성,” 그리고 “은둔” 등 디킨슨이 그녀의 시와 편지에서 직 접 언급한 은유들의 의미와 상호 연관성을 분석함으로써 종교적 신앙과 성서적 진리 탐구를 구현하는 디킨슨의 시를 재평가한다. “비스듬히 말하기”를 우회적 이고 은유적인 진술인 시 쓰기와 동일한 것으로 보고 디킨슨이 이 전략을 통해 자신의 영성을 어떻게 숨기고 동시에 드러내는지를 고찰한다. 제도화된 종교에 대한 거부와 신 앞에서의 인간 존재의 한계에 대한 좌절을 다루는 시들 속에서, 디킨슨이 성서적 진리에 기반한 진정한 개인적 영성을 끊임없이 추구하고 있음 을 읽을 수 있었다. 실제로, 종교와 신에 대한 회의와 저항을 담은 시들은 오히 려 성서적 진리에 접근하기 위한 디킨슨의 우회적 여정이었음이 확인된다.

본 연구는 한국소설 『82년생 김지영』과 인도네시아어 번역본 『Kim Ji-yeong Lahir Tahun 1982』 간의 비교 고찰을 통해 원작이 내포한 젠더 이슈와 페미니즘 주제가 번역본에서 충실히 구현되었는가를 살펴보 는 데에 목적이 있다. 이러한 논의를 위해 원작의 주제 구현 관련 핵심 적인 역할을 하는 여성 등장인물, 고순분, 김은영, 김은실, 김지영 이상 네 명의 인물 형상화가 번역본에서 재현된 양상을 살펴보았다. 분석 결 과, 『82년생 김지영』 인도네시아어 번역본은 목표언어 독자의 가독성을 고려한 의역, 단어의 표층적 의미 위주의 직역, 핵심 표현의 생략, 변환 등을 통해 작가가 여성 등장인물을 통해 전달하고자 한 페미니즘 메시지 와 젠더 이슈 관련 비판을 축소하여 전달하는 양상이 발견되었다. 이러 한 분석 결과는 페미니즘 문학에서 여성 등장인물의 목소리와 감정이 전 하는 젠더 이슈를 번역 과정에서 명확하게 반영할 수 있는 전략적 접근 이 필요함을 시사하며, 이러한 전략적 접근 중 하나로 페미니즘 번역 수 행의 가능성을 확인하게 한다.

The purpose of this study is to examine learners’ perceptions of AI-based machine translation (MT) in high school ‘Reading British and American Literature’ classes. This research explored how students perceived the impact of MT on their class participation, learning motivation, confidence in English use, and improvement in English ability. The study also examined how the effectiveness of MT use differed according to students’ English proficiency levels. A total of 153 third-year students participated in a nine-week English literature course. Data were collected through an online survey and statistically analyzed. The findings reveal that students showed positive perceptions regarding class participation, learning motivation, confidence in English use, and improvement in English ability. Notably, participation in the English literature classes using AI-based MT was significantly higher than that in other English classes. Analysis by English proficiency levels showed no significant differences in class participation and affective factors (learning motivation and confidence). However, lower-proficiency learners perceived greater improvement in English proficiency compared to higher-proficiency learners. These results suggest that incorporating AI-based MT in English literature classes can create an inclusive learning environment that supports learners across different proficiency levels, particularly benefiting lower-proficiency students in terms of improvement in English ability.

본 연구에서는 동화 유아교육학과 대학생들을 대상으로 한 동화책 활용 독서토의 기반 생활지도 및 상담 수업이 예비유아교사에게 주는 의미를 탐색하고 그 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 서울시 소재 대학 유아교육과 학사학위 교직 과정으로 개설된 생활지도 및 상담 교과목을 수강하는 대학생 61명을 연구참여자로 선정하였다. 동화책을 활용한 독서토의 생활지도와 상담 수업 과정에서 연구참여자들이 작성한 보고서를 통해 자료를 수집하고 근거이론(grounded theory) 방법을 통해 분석하였다. 연구 결 과, 독서 토의를 통한 생활지도와 상담은 예비 교사들에게 공감을 토대로 한 자연스러운 분위기를 형 성하고, 의사소통의 키워드와 주제를 제공하며, 긍정적인 변화로 안내하는 실천적 의지를 형성하는데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 동화책을 활용한 독서 토의 활동이 예비 교사교육 현장의 정서적, 인지적, 실천적 영역에서 중요한 역할을 수행하며, 독서 토의 활동을 통한 교사교육은 예비교사의 교육적 역량 을 강화하고, 유아교육의 생활지도와 상담에 긍정적인 효과를 주었다.

목적: 본 연구는 우세안에 10%의 부등상을 유발한 상태에서, 대비감도, 입체시, 조절용이성, 폭주근점을 측정하고 안구운동과 독서 능력, 주시데이터를 정량적으로 평가하고자 하였다. 방법 : 교정시력이 양안 1.0 이상인 20대 성인 남녀 40명을 대상으로 하였다. 완전 교정한 후 우세안에 10% 부 등상 유발렌즈를 가입하고, 40 cm 거리에서 대비감도(Adult Near Contrast Test #587700), 입체시(Titmus fly test), 조절용이성(±2.00 D 플리퍼), 폭주근점을 측정하였다. 안구운동과 독서 능력 평가는 아이트래커를 이용하 여 측정하였다. 피검자와 디스플레이거리는 70 cm로 두었고, 주시 횟수, 주시시간, 평균주시시간, 홱보기 수, 홱보 기 폭, 눈 깜빡임 및 동공크기를 측정하였다. 독서 능력은 총 읽기 시간과 독서오류를 측정하였다. 결과 : 등상시와 10% 유발부등상시 상태에서 대비감도가 25, 5, 2.5%에서 유의하게 감소하였다(p<0.050). 입 체시, 조절용이성, 폭주근점 모두 유발부등상시 때에 유의하게 증가 및 감소하였다(p<0.050). 안구 운동 변수 중 주시 횟수만 유발부등상시에 유의하게 증가되었다(p<0.050). 결론 : 안구 운동 평가에서는 주시, 독서오류가 유의하게 증가하였다. 10% 유발부등상시는 독서 능력을 저하시 키는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 연구에서는 자각적으로 느끼는 독서 어려움에 대한 설문이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

This study investigates how working memory (WM) capacity and L2 linguistic knowledge affect L2 literal and inferential reading comprehension, considering the presence or absence of background knowledge. Eighty upper-intermediate to advanced adult English learners participated, completing tasks to assess WM capacity, background knowledge, L2 linguistic knowledge, and reading comprehension (both literal and inferential). Stepwise regression analyses revealed that WM capacity had a stronger influence on both literal and inferential comprehension when background knowledge was absent. For literal comprehension, L2 linguistic knowledge was the sole predictor when background knowledge was present, while WM capacity dominated in its absence. Inferential comprehension was consistently predicted by WM capacity, regardless of background knowledge. These findings indicate that WM capacity and L2 linguistic knowledge influence L2 reading comprehension differently depending on background knowledge and the type of comprehension. Implications include incorporating WM training into L2 reading instruction and employing diverse WM assessment methods to measure WM independently of L2 linguistic proficiency.

Neural machine translators (NMTs), such as Google Translate, may assist second language (L2) readers with general comprehension. However, previous empirical studies show mix ed r esults r egarding their e ffectiveness. In this study, 145 Korean English learners from a girls’ high school were asked to solve three types of reading comprehension problems (grammar judgment, inferring meaning from context, inferring main idea) under three reading conditions (no aid, MT, glossary). Overall, when using MT, reading comprehension scores were higher than in either the no aid or glossary conditions individually. However, none of the reading aid conditions improved grammar judgment. Only mid-proficiency learners benefited from MT in both inferring meaning from context and inferring main idea tasks. The results suggest that the glossary may have interrupted the flow of the reading process. With the widespread availability of MT as an online reference tool, L2 teachers should consider incorporating MT as a legitimate reading aid for different proficiency levels and reading purposes.
