        Due to the increasing sewage sludge generation from wastewater treatment facilities, sewage sludge has been reconsidered as a renewable energy source in various ways. Lipid extraction from sewage sludge is an applicable method for biodiesel production. Higher biodiesel production yields can be achieved through the improvement of lipid recovery efficiency. Although sewage sludge has different features due to its types and steps in treatment plants, lipid content of sewage sludge generally ranges from 10 to 15%. Among solvent extraction methods, the highest lipid recovery efficiencies were observed for chloroform-methanol extraction: 13.6-14.6% for primary sludge, 10.6-12.1% for waste-activated sludge, and 2.9-4.2% for digested sludge. The extraction residue of sludge can be used as biosolid refuse fuel (bio-SRF). After lipid extraction, the residue had decreased volatile matter and carbon content. Consequently, the calorific value of the residue decreased by 3,000 kcal/kg. The level of calorific value can be available to use bio-SRF.

        Thise study aimed to determine the optimum antioxidant extraction conditions of dried Gugija (Lycium chinensis Mill). To determine the operational parameters, including ethanol concentration (X1, 0~80%) and extraction time (X2, 1~5 hr), a response surface methodology was applied to monitor brown color intensity, total phenolic compounds, ABTS radical scavenging activity, and Fe2+ chelating activity. Coefficients of determinations (R2) of the models were 0.8486~0.9214 (p<0.05~0.1) in dependent parameters. Brown color intensity of Gugija extracts reached a maximum of 0.75 (OD in 420 nm) under extraction conditions of 2.88 hr in 78.10% ethanol. Total phenolic compounds reached a maximum of 2,355 μg under extraction conditions of 4.94 hr in 30.17% ethanol. ABTS radical scavenging activity was 13.83% at 4.61 hr and 16.21% ethanol. Fe2+ chelating activity showed a maximum of 58.54% under extraction conditions of 3.39 hr in 0.76% ethanol. Optimum extraction conditions (5 hr extraction in 15% ethanol) were obtained by superimposing the contour maps with regards to total phenolic compounds, ABTS radical scavenging activity, and Fe2+ chelating activity of dried Gugija. Maximum values of total phenolic compounds, ABTS radical scavenging activity, and Fe2+ chelating activity under optimum extraction condition were 2,397 μg, 15.62% and 54.78%, respectively.

        신제3기 마이오세(Miocene)의 플라야호(playa lake) 환경에서 형성된 증발형 붕소 광상인 터키 의 비가디치(Bigadiç) 광상과 크르카(Kırka) 광상에서 산출되는 점토에서 각각 LiO2가 0.02-0.21%, 0.16-0.30% 함유되어 있다. 이는 점토에 리튬을 함유한 헥토라이트(hectorite)가 함유되어 있기 때문으 로 확인되었으며 붕소 광석을 처리하고 남은 광미도 LiO2 0.04-0.26% 포함하고 있는 것으로 보고된 다. 약 0.18%의 리튬 함량을 보이는 비가디치 및 크르카 광상 점토 시료 각 1개에 대하여 추출 가능 한 리튬의 양을 알아보았다. 본 연구의 XRD 분석 결과 크르카 광상의 시료에는 25.7%, 비가디치 시 료에는 79.7%의 헥토라이트가 함유되어 있었다. 이들 점토가 리튬 광석으로 활용될 수 있는지 알아보 기 위해 (1) 산 처리 용출 및 (2) 열처리 침출 방법으로 리튬을 추출하였다. 두 광상 시료 모두 0.25 M 염산과의 반응시간에 따라 용출되는 리튬의 양이 증가하였으나 10시간 이상 반응시켰을 때는 용출되 는 리튬의 양이 더 이상 증가하지 않았다. 10시간 이상 반응시켰을 때, 크르카 광상 점토 시료에서 89%의 리튬이 용출되었으며 비가디치 광상 점토 시료에서 71%의 리튬이 용출되었다. CaCO3 및 CaSO4와 함께 1,100°C에서 2시간 열처리하여 크르카 광상 시료에서 87%, 비가디치 광상 시료에서 82%의 리튬을 추출하였다. 크르카 광상의 점토 시료는 산 처리로 더 많은 양의 리튬을 추출할 수 있 었으며 비가디치 광상의 시료는 열처리 방법으로 리튬을 더 많이 추출할 수 있었다.

        The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum re-extraction conditions of ethanol from catechin in Korean green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) using response surface methodology (RSM). The experiments were carried out according to a five level and two variable central composite design (CCD). The two independent variables were solvent ratio to sample content (1, 4, 7, 10, 13 mL/g) and extraction temperature (-20, -10, 0, 10, 20℃) on the dependent variables including yield, epigallocatechin (EGC), epicathchin (EC), epigallocatechingallate (EGCG), epicatechingallate (ECG), total catechin and caffeine. ANOVA results showed that Coefficients of determination (R2) of estimated models for dependent variables were ranged from 0.9054~0.9778, while R2 of caffeine were estimated 0.8770. The optimum ranges for the maximized extraction including yield, EGC, EC, EGCG, ECG, caffeine and total catechin were 4.5~7.5 mL/g in ratio of ethanol to sample and -8~8℃ in extraction temperature. The actual values of yield, EGC, EC, EGCG, ECG, caffeine and total catechin, respectively, at the optimized conditions were 35.02%, 13.31%, 3.978%, 19.11%, 4.29%, 5.30% and 40.68%

        The effects of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) on the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of coffee beverage were investigated. Coffee powder (4 g) was soaked into 80 mL distilled water and extracted for 15, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240, or 300 sec at 60℃ in an ultrasonic bath (40 kHz, 300 W). Hot-water extraction (HE) at 80℃ for 300 sec was used as a control. Content of soluble solids in coffee beverage prepared by UAE (60~300 sec) was same or higher than those of HE, however, no significant differences were observed among the four beverages extracted for more than 120 sec. Clarity and browning index of beverage prepared by UAE (15 sec) and by HE were significantly higher and lower, respectively, compared to those of the other. Content of phenolic compounds was lower and higher respectively, in beverage prepared by UAE (15 sec, 30 sec) and UAE (60~300 sec) than by HE. DPPH radical scavenging activity was highest in beverage prepared by UAE (15 sec) and HE. Sensory evaluation showed that color, aroma, taste, and overall acceptability were rated with the best score for beverage prepared by UAE (15 sec) and the worst score for beverage prepared UAE (120~300 sec). Therefore, ultrasound-assisted extraction can be used for improving quality of coffee beverage.

        Background: We investigated the optimal aqueous extraction conditions for recovery of high yields of total phenolic compounds from roots of Arctium lappa L. (burdock, Asteraceae), and we compared their antioxidant capacity.Methods and Results: The antioxidant activity of the extracts was tested using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2’-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)-diammonium salt, and oxygen radical absorbance capacity assays. In addition, the major phenolic compounds present in the extracts were determined by high performance liquid chromatography analysis. Our results suggest that the roasted burdock 100°C, 15 min extract exhibited the strongest radical scavenging activity and possessed the highest concentration of phenolic compounds. The polyphenol content of both dried burdock and roasted burdock significantly increased with increase in the extraction temperature and time.Conclusions: These results indicated a relationship between phenolic compound levels in burdock and their free radical scavenging activities. This suggests that phenolic compounds significantly increase the antioxidant potential of burdock extracts.

        Background : The study about ginseng cultured roots have been reported mainly ginsenosides in saponins family. Other phytochemical such as non-saponins of fatty acid has been revealed its bioactive activity including anti-oxidation, whitening, anti-cancer. Supercritical extraction (SE) process mainly refer to the extraction with CO2, is usually from a solid matrix, is a sample preparation step for analytical purposes. SE produce no residual solvent and possess high stability of the extract component, which is advantageous for fatty acid analysis. Methods and Results : Fermented ginseng cultured roots used in the experiment were used for fermentation using Pediococcus pentosaceus. SE performed at different temperature, pressure and extraction time using non-fermented and fermented ginseng roots. Further we fractionated from fermented ginseng using Methanol, Hexane, Ethanol, Ethyl acetate and Butanol. We compared fatty acids contents ginseng extractions by GC analysis. Methyl linoleate contents was 44% of fatty acids supercritical extraction contained. The contents of Methyl linoleate was the most dominant component among 37 types of fatty acids by SE and other extractions solvent. Total fatty acids contents obtained by SE process from fermented ginseng (1325.61ppm) was twice than from non-fermented ginseng (618.47ppm). Conclusion : Fatty acids contents by SE was increased at high pressure. The best condition for fatty acids contents extraction was 60℃, 350bar and 3h.

        Background : The effective components of Omija(Schisandra chinensis Bailllon) are lignans (schizandrins and gomisins), and this components were contented mostly in seed part on Omija, which have various physiological functionalities such as anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. Methods and Results : This study was carried out to determine effective condition(CO2, CO2+ethanol) on extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SFE) system and to find interrelation on effective components and antioxidant activity of extracts and residues obtained after extraction. Effective components were analysed lignans and phenolic compounds and antioxidant activirty was determined for DPPH radical scavenging ability on methanol extracts of SFE-extract and SFE-residue. On SFE with ethanol, SFE extract was separated two phase, upper(water phase) and lower(oil phase). SFE-extract showed the highest total lignans content(61.36 mg/g, 72.14 mg/g on lower, 50.58 mg/g on upper) and the lowest total phenolic compounds(6.52 mg/100g) and SFE-residue showed the lowest total lignans content(1.45 mg/g) and the highest total phenolic compounds(16.23 mg/100g) by extracted on CO2+ethanol treatment. SFE-residue methanol extract showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging abilities and SFE-extract upper showed the lowest. Conclusion : Thus, this results showed SFE-extract showed the highest total lignans content, but SFE-residue showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging ability although the lowest total lignans content.

        Bacterial fruit blotch (BFB) is one of most important diseases in Cucurbitaceae due to infection of Acidovorax citrulli, causing huge economic losses damage worldwide. This seedborn disease spread rapidly at period of high temperature and humidity. The eco-friendly farming is getting popular. So far there was no effective agent to control BFB in eco-friendly farming. Therefore, effect of the material based on chinese nut-gall extract with antibacterial activity against BFB to was tested against A. citrulli. Different hosts showed various symptoms of BFB. Liquid formulation among exhibited most effective anti-bacterial activity on A. citrulli. Pot experiment in greenhouse showed the potential as an control agent of BFB in cucurbits. The treatment of material based on chinese nut-gall extract showed the positive effect on survival of the watermelon seedling and on the length of the cucumber seedling treated with A. citrulli. We cautiously conclude that the material based on chinese nut-gall extract used in this study may be good agents against major diseases of cucurbits in the future even though it is require to be tested with more study on field test.

        Background: In this study, microwave extraction was used, which is an effective method to extract useful bioactive substances as it requires low quantities of solvent and short time periods. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal extraction conditions for Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb. Methods and Results: The independent variables were ethanol concentration, microwave power, and extraction time, each of which had five levels. The dependent variables were total polyphenol and total flavonoid content, and DPPH radical scavenging activity. To determine the optimal extraction conditions for bioactive compounds, a response surface methodology was employed. Contour maps were generated from polynomial equations. The optimal conditions were then assumed by superimposing these contour maps. Based on the resulting graph, the optimal microwave extraction conditions for Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb were determined as 42 - 48% ethanol concentration, 240 - 280W microwave power, and 13 - 20 min of extraction time. Conclusions: Ethanol concentration had a significant effect on microwave extraction, in terms of total polyphenol and total flavonoid content, as well as DPPH radical scavenging activity. Microwave power and extraction time influenced the total polyphenol content, but not the total flavonoid content or the DPPH radical scavenging activity.

        This study focused on the evaluation of stability of mercury compounds in byproducts from industrial facilities. Stability testing was conducted using a 5-step sequential extraction procedure using six kinds of byproducts. The mercury compounds extracted were categorized as ion-exchangeable (F1), acid soluble (F2), organic matter-bound (F3), strong complex (F4), and residual (F5) mercury compounds. The amount of mercury in each step was calculated and compared with total mercury amount; a 51% to 92% recovery rate was estimated. Hg-extracted F1, F2, and F3 were easily released into environment. It is necessary to apply an appropriate method to handle byproducts that contain these portions of mercury. On the other hand, mercury in F4 and F5 fraction is relatively more stable. F4 fraction means strong complex and elemental mercury. Byproduct from metal production facility has a higher elemental mercury fraction. It was found that 89% and 65% of mercury were contained in F4 fractions from fly ash and sludge, respectively. The goal of this study is to investigate stability of Hg compounds in different byproducts to suggest appropriate treatment methods for each byproduct on its Hg compound characteristics.

        Background : From 2000 years ago, Panax ginseng is identified as precious pharmaceutical plant. Depend on growing environment, the name would be vary. For instance, it is called "mountain cultured ginseng (jangnoesam)" which is artificially grown ginseng, "Cultured ginseng (jaebaesam)" which refer to the ginseng grown in the forest, and lastly "Wild ginseng (sansam)" which inhabits in deep mountain. The main active compounds in the Panax ginseng is called ginsenoside and many researches have been performing in biological field. However, most studies focus on functional ability of ginseng. In this study, to seek the suitable extraction condition and antioxidant activity, cell cultured Panax ginseng was extracted according to different ethanol concentration and extraction time. Methods and Results : To establish the optimal extraction condition, the sample was pulverized into 500 μm and added 10% (v/v), 30% (v/v), 50% (v/v), 70% (v/v) and, 90% (v/v) EtOH. After that, the samples are extracted in different time by ultrasonic bath (Power sonic 520, Hwashin Co., Korea). The extracts was filtered by Whatman No. 2 filtering paper. Eventually, the saponin was separated by n-butanol as the ginsenoside, the combination of terpenoid and sugar. The extraction yield of 90% cell cultured panax ginseng EtOH extract was 7.36±0.33%, which was the lowest extraction yield and simultaneously, 10% EtOH extract showed 1.8 times more yield that of 90% EtOH extract. The saponin extraction yield revealed 10% and 70% EtOH extract showed 1.64±0.06% and 3.13±0.08%, respectively. Conclusion : The suitable extraction yield in cell cultured panax ginseng and saponin were evaluated by different extraction condition such as ethanol concentration and extraction time. As a result, when 10% EtOH was applied as solvent, the yield was doubles of 90% EtOH extract. As ethanol became high concentrations, the extraction yield was gradually increased. Among them, crude saponin, the main active compounds in Panax ginseng was extracted the most by 70% EtOH and that value was 3.13±0.08%.

        It is important that structure's exact damage analysis and decision-making for recovery when natural disasters cause damage on SOC structure. There are many related studies using geo-spatial data like satellite and aerial images. Recently the interest has increasing about utilizing UAV(Unmanned aerial vehicle). But there are little studies related it. Therefore, we present the extraction method of the shape changes of structure damage using UAV images.

        In this paper, we propose a new algorithm of the guidance line extraction for autonomous agricultural robot based on vision camera in paddy field. It is the important process for guidance line extraction which finds the central point or area of rice row. We are trying to use the central region data of crop that the direction of rice leaves have convergence to central area of rice row in order to improve accuracy of the guidance line. The guidance line is extracted from the intersection points of extended virtual lines using the modified robust regression. The extended virtual lines are represented as the extended line from each segmented straight line created on the edges of the rice plants in the image using the Hough transform. We also have verified an accuracy of the proposed algorithm by experiments in the real wet paddy.

        The volatile flavor components of the fruit pulp and peel of orange (Citrus sinensis) and grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) were extracted by simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE) using a solvent mixture of n-pentane and diethyl ether (1:1, v/v) and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The total volatile flavor contents in the pulp and peel of orange were 120.55 and 4,510.81 mg/kg, respectively, while those in the pulp and peel of grapefruit were 195.60 and 4,223.68 mg/kg, respectively. The monoterpene limonene was identified as the major voltile flavor compound in both orange and grapefruit, exhibiting contents of 65.32 and 3,008.10 mg/kg in the pulp and peel of orange, respectively, and 105.00 and 1,870.24 mg/kg in the pulp and peel of grapefruit, respectively. Limonene, sabinene, α-pinene, β-myrcene, linalool, (Z)-limonene oxide, and (E)-limonene oxide were the main volatile flavor components of both orange and grapefruit. The distinctive component of orange was valencene, while grapefruit contained (E)-caryophyllene and nootkatone. δ-3-Carene, α-terpinolene, borneol, citronellyl acetate, piperitone, and β-copaene were detected in orange but not in grapefruit. Conversely, grapefruit contained β-pinene, α-terpinyl acetate, bicyclogermacrene, nootkatol, β-cubebene, and sesquisabinene, while orange did not. Phenylacetaldehyde, camphor, limona ketone and (Z)-caryophyllene were identified in the pulp of both fruits, while α-thujene, citronellal, citronellol, α-sinensal, γ-muurolene and germacrene D were detected in the peel of both fresh fruit samples.

        A new extraction method-heated ultrasonic extraction was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed for the extraction of major ginsenosides from ginseng extract; this new high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was compared with the official extraction method of Korean industrial standards and standard for health functional food. Methods and Results : Ginsenoside compounds were analyzed for 35 minutes by the new HPLC analysis method using a Halo® RP-Amide column. The new HPLC analysis method was validated by the measurement of intra-day and inter-day precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) of each ginsenoside. The correlation coefficients (r2) for the calibration curves of the ginsenoside compounds were over 0.9997 in terms of linearity. The heated ultrasonic extraction method using ultrasonication for 30 minutes at 50℃ yielded higher amount of ginsenosides than the extraction method of the Korean industrial standards owing to the enhancement of extraction efficiency. Conclusions : Compared to the other extraction methods, the heated ultrasonic extraction method yielded a higher amount of ginsenoside Rb1 than Rg1 index compounds for the quality evaluation of ginseng roots.

        The purpose of this study was to develop a supplemental healthy food that can help prevent high blood pressure-related diseases caused due to the excessive consumption of sodium in salt. This was achieved by using ion-displacement techniques to produce mineral salt with lower sodium content by using fermented brown rice by-products rich in minerals. Mineral salt containing 2019.2 mg/100 g of potassium, 678.5 mg/100 g of magnesium, 48.7 mg/100 g of calcium, and 19.5 mg/100 g of sodium was obtained by fermenting brown rice by-products to create a culture medium for the mineral salt. Mineral salt containing 1769.7 mg/100 g of potassium, 573.6 mg/100 g of magnesium, 35.3 mg/100 g of calcium, and 19.5 mg/100 g of sodium was obtained by filtering and refining the by-product extract of fermented brown rice. The results showed that when the stream velocity of the instrument used for electrolysis was 200 mL/min and the current and the concentration of the reactive liquid in the purified water chamber were higher, the effect of electrolysis was greater. Ion hot water extraction of the fermented brown rice by-products improved by up to 95% and was collected as purified water within 90 min of the reaction time. Chloride ions with pH 7.4 were produced by mixing sodium hydroxide in a purified saline water chamber with electro-analyzed water. The salt produced in this study contained low sodium, 5.7~30%, as compared to 40% sodium content of the normal salt.

        The influence of different roasting temperatures, times and extraction methods on the quality characteristics of Omija (Schizandra chinensis) seed oils was investigated. Roasted Omija seeds were divided into five groups based on roasting temperature-time conditions: no roasting (Raw) and roasting [R11: 150℃, 10 min, R12: 150℃, 20 min, R21: 250℃, 10 min, R22: 250℃, 20 min (R22)]. Oils from each of the raw and roasted Omija seeds were obtained by solvent (n-hexane) and press (machine) extraction. The L* values decreased, but the a* and b* values increased with increasing the roasting temperature and time. The L* values were lower in the press-extracted oils than in the solvent-extracted oils. The peroxide value (POV) of Omija seed oils decreased with increasing the roasting temperature-time values. The POV value was higher in the press-extracted oils than in the solvent-extracted oils. ABTS (2, 2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical inhibition of Omija seed oils was higher in the solvent-extracted oils than in the press-extracted oils, but there were no significant differences between the two oils. The four major kinds of fatty acid methyl esters detected in Omija seed oils were methyl butyrate, methyl hexanoate, methyl arachidate, and methyl eicosanoate. In conclusion, Omija seed oils obtained by solvent extraction and at higher roasting temperature-time values were more effective antioxidants.

        본 연구에서는 추출방법을 달리하여 블루베리 열수추출물들간의 항산화 활성 차이를 비교하였다. Autoclave를 이용한 가압가열추출(AE), 오븐을 이용한 추출(OE), 끓인 증류수에 혼합 후 sonication한 추출(HWSE), 끓인 증류수에 산을 첨가한 후 sonication한 추출(HWASE) 및 15분간 끓여 추출(BE) 등의 방법으로 추출물을 제조하고, 총 폴리페놀, 플라보노이드 및 안토시아닌 함량을 확인하고 ABTS, alkyl 및 DPPH radical 소거능 실험과 Fe2+ ion chelating 활성을 확인하였다. 총 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량 모두 AE에서 각각 3.47±0.16 mg GAE/g 및 1.59±0.19 mg RE/g으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈다. 한편 이와는 반대로 총 안토시아닌 함량은 AE가 가장 낮은 함량을 나타냈으며, HWSE(5.29 mg/g) 에서 가장 높은 함량을 나타냈다. ABTS와 alkyl radical 소거능 측정 결과, AE가 가장 우수한 소거능을 나타냈으며, DPPH radical 소거능 실험에서는 AE와 더불어 안토시아닌 함량이 가장 높은 HWSE이 우수한 활성을 나타냈다. Fe2+ ion chelating 활성 측정 실험에서는 모든 추출물이 유의적 차이 없이 높은 활성을 나타냈다. 또한 SOD activity 측정 실험에서 AE가 가장 우수한 활성을 나타냈으며, H2O2에 의해 유도된 세포독성 또한 AE가 가장 효과적으로 억제시켰다. 이상의 결과를 토대로 추출 조건에 따른 항산화 활성 차이를 수율 대비로 비교하였을 때, 가장 낮은 활성을 나타냈던 HWASE에 대비하여 AE는 ABTS radical scavenging activity 1.90배, alkyl radical scavenging activity 2.32배, DPPH radical scavenging activity 1.72배, SOD assay 1.65배, H2O2에 의해 유도된 세포독성에 대한 보호효능 1.84배의 우수한 항산화 활성을 나타냈다.
