        Different pathogenic microorganisms have been reported to cause sprouts-associated outbreaks. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of corona discharge plasma jet (CDPJ) on disinfection of the natural bio-contaminants of broccoli seed and also studied the plasma effect on sprout seed germination rate and physico-chemical properties of sprouts. Aerobic bacteria, molds and yeasts, B. cereus, E. coli, Salmonella spp. were detected on the broccoli seed surface. After 0-3 min treatment using CDPJ, the detected microorganisms were reduced in the range of 1.2-2.3 log units. Inactivation patterns were better explained using pseudo-first-order kinetics. The plasma treatment of seeds up to 2 min exhibited positive effects on the germination rate and the seedling growth. The physico-chemical and sensory characteristics of sprouts were unaffected due to the CDPJ treatment of their respective seeds. The CDPJ can potentially be used for microbial decontamination of broccoli seeds.

        The morphology, crystal structure and size of aerosol nanoparticles generated by erosion of electrodes made of different materials (titanium, copper and aluminum) in a multi-spark discharge generator were investigated. The aerosol nanoparticle synthesis was carried out in air atmosphere at a capacitor stored energy of 6 J, a repetition rate of discharge of 0.5 Hz and a gas flow velocity of 5.4 m/s. The aerosol nanoparticles were generated in the form of oxides and had various morphologies: agglomerates of primary particles of TiO2 and Al2O3 or aggregates of primary particles of Cu2O. The average size of the primary nanoparticles ranged between 6.3 and 7.4 nm for the three substances studied. The average size of the agglomerates and aggregates varied in a wide interval from 24.6 nm for Cu2O to 46.1 nm for Al2O3.

        Most of the soundproof tunnels generate significant discharge noise through their inlets and outlets so that the length of the tunnel has been extended frequently than required to minimize the effect on such discharge noise. Thus, in this paper, we investigate reduction capability of discharge noise from the sound proof tunnel installed with lateral sound-absorbing panels on the partitioned truss members in the longitudinal direction of the tunnel. In conclusion, noise field analysis results shows that the sound proof tunnels with lateral sound-absorbing panels have an effect on discharge noise abatement and thereby tunnel’s length reduction.

        본 연구에서는 하수처리수를 원수로 사용하여 직접 접촉식 막증발법을 적용하여 원수 온도와 원수 유량 변화에 따 른 하수처리수의 COD, TN, TP, TOC의 제거율 변화와 여과플럭스의 변화를 측정하였다. 또한 하수처리수에 의한 분리막의 오염 가역성을 평가하기 위해 1차 증류수만을 사용하여 물리세정을 수행한 후 플럭스의 회복률을 측정하였다. 실험결과 원수 의 온도 및 유량에 관계없이 원수가 3배 농축될 때까지 여과를 진행하였음에도 불구하고 하수처리수의 주요 오염물질인 COD, TN, TP, TOC에 대한 제거율이 92% 이상으로 높게 나타났다. 또한 비교적 낮은 온도인 50°C와 60°C에서 원수의 유량에 따라 최소 13.8 LMH에서 20.3 LMH로 높은 여과플럭스를 나타냈다. 그리고 높은 농축계수까지 여과 실험을 진행했음에도 불구하 고 낮은 여과플럭스의 감소를 나타냈으며 1차 증류수를 이용한 짧은 시간 동안의 물리세정만으로 최소 90% 이상의 높은 여과 플럭스 회복율을 나타냈다. 따라서 하수처리수 재이용을 위한 공정으로 막증발법의 적용이 충분히 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

        This paper presents the approach of design parameters optimization based on Taguchi method for the uniformity of outlet pressure in a plasma discharge chamber. The key issue of a plasma discharge chamber is to have the uniformity of outlet pressure which can make a high performance of surface treatment. To extend the length of a outlet from 60mm to 250mm with the uniformity, This study optimally designed the middle holes, outlet width and height, and diameter of the second chamber by using SolidWorks and flow simulation tool. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.

        The optical fibers tend to have poor machinability because of its hardness and brittleness. In the previous study, we applied the electrochemical discharge machining to fabricate the tip of the optical fiber. We could machine the optical fiber using the electrochemical discharge machining however the machined optical fiber tip had rough surface. In this study, we use electrochemical discharge machining with rotation tool which of the rough-grinding and finishing-grinding process to obtain a smooth surface of the side firing fiber. As a result, we are able to machine the optical fiber tip with smooth surface effectively from the proposed fiber machining process and the emission from the side-firing fiber clearly demonstrated the directional emission as the emission beam was reflected at 80 ° relative to the fiber axis.

        교류형 플라즈마 디스플레이에서 기입기간 중 방전지연시간을 단축시키기 위하여 공통전극에 추가펄스 인가 하였을 때의 플라즈마 방전이 시뮬레이션 되고 기입 광파형이 측정되었다. AC PDP의 초기화 기간 동안 셀 내부에는 벽전하가 쌓이고 그것들은 기입 기간에 주사와 기입펄스에 의해 기입방전을 트리거링 시키기 위하여 이용되어진다. 그러나 종래에는 공통전극에는 DC 바이어스 전압에 의해 음의 전하는 기입방전에 이용되지 못하므로 방전지연시간 의 단축은 한계가 있다. 만약 주사와 기입전극의 전하뿐만 아니라 공통전극의 음의 전하를 이용한다면 방전지연시간 은 단축될 것이고 이를 확인하기 위하여 기입기간 동안 3 전극에 펄스가 모두 인가될 때, 진공 자외선을 발생시키는 Xe 3P2 의 에너지 상태가 시뮬레이션 되었다. 또한 종래의 구동방법과 공통 전극에 추가 펄스를 인가한 경우에 기입 방전의 광파형의 단축을 각각 측정되었다.

        Atmospheric pressure plasma is used in the biological and medical fields. Miniaturization and safety are important in the application of apply atmospheric plasma to bio devices. In this study, we made a small, pocket-sized inverter for the discharge of atmospheric plasma. We used pulse power to control the neutral gas temperature at which the, when plasma was discharged. We used direct current of 5 V of bias(voltage). The output voltage is about 1 to 2 kilo volts the frequency is about 80 kilo hertz. We analyzsed the characteristics of the atmospheric plasma using OES(Optical emission spectroscopy) and the Current-Voltage characteristic of pulse power. By calculating of the current voltage characteristics, we were able to determine that, when the duty ratio increased, the power that actually effects the plasma discharge also increased. To apply atmospheric plasma to human organisms, the temperature is the most important factor, we were able to control the temperature by modulating the pulse power duty ratio. This means we can use atmospheric plasma on the human body or in other areas of the medical field.

        The microstructures and cyclic voltammograms of Al-Si/C nano-composites were investigated as the anode of lithium ion batteries. Al-Si nanoparticles were prepared by the arc-discharge method. Al-Si/C nanoparticles were obtained by coated Al-Si nanoparticles with the precursor of glucose (C6H12O6) as carbon source. It was indicated that the post carbon coating treatment can reduce Al2O3 film on Al-Si particles, and new phase Al4C3 formed in the process can activate the inactivated materials of electrode in a certain extent.

        Ti alloys are extensively used in high-technology application because of their strength, oxidation resistance at high temperature. However, Ti alloys tend to be classified very difficult to cut material. In this paper, The powder synthesis, spark plasma sintering (SPS), bulk material properties such as electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity are systematically examined on Ti2AlN and Ti2AlC materials having most light-weight and oxidation resistance among the MAX phases. The bulk samples mainly consisted of Ti2AlN and Ti2AlC materials with density close to theoretical value were synthesized by a SPS method. Machining characteristics such as machining time, surface quality are analyzed with measurement of voltage and current waveform according to machining condition of micro-electrical discharge machining with micro-channel shape.

        역삼투법 해수담수화 기술은 에너지 소모 및 농축수 처리 문제로 인하여 기술 활용의 보급에 제한이 있는 실정이다. 해수·하수를 유도용액과 원수로써 사용하는 정·역삼투 융합공정은 별도의 유도용액이 필요하지 않으며 희석된 해수가 역삼투 공정의 원수로써 사용되기 때문에 일반적인 역삼투법 해수담수화 기술보다 낮은 압력에서 운전된다. 또한 역삼투 공정 후단에 정삼투 공정을 추가시킴으로써 농축수를 희석시킬 수 있으며 이로써 농축수 배출로 인한 문제점을 최소화 시킬 수 있다. 현재 국외에서는 Modern water, Porifera사 주도로 정삼투 모듈 개발 및 실용플랜트 개발이 이루어지고 있으며, 국내의 경우 FOHC 연구단에서 해당 공정의 기본 메커니즘 및 실용화에 관한 연구가 이루어지고 있다.

        Plasma properties of dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) at atmospheric pressure were measured and characterized using optical emission spectroscopy. Optical emissions were measured from argon, nitrogen, or air discharges generated at 5- 9 kV using 20 kHz power supply. Emissions from nitrogen molecules were markedly measured, irrespective of discharge gases. The intensity of emission peaks was increased with applied voltage and electrode gap. The short wavelength peaks (315.9 nm and 337.1 nm) measured at the middle of DBDs were significantly increased with applied voltage. The optical emission from DBDs decreased with the addition of oxygen gas, which was especially significant in argon discharge. Emission from oxygen molecules cannot be measured from air discharge and argon discharge with 4.8% oxygen. The emission intensity at 337.1 nm and 357.7 nm related with nitrogen molecule was sensitively changed with electrode types and discharge voltages. However, the pattern of argon emission spectrum was nearly the same, irrespective of electrode type, oxygen content, and discharge voltage.

        Under Korea’s Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Environmental Policy amended in 2013, total organic carbon (TOC) is newly added as water quality parameter to assess organic pollution in the aquatic ecosystem. To meet the TOC requirement and improve quality of effluent discharged into public watershed, it is also necessary to develop standards for TOC in effluent from public sewage treatment works (PSTWs).In this study, we reviewed the characteristics and removal efficiency of TOC in influent and effluent of PSTWs. The study found that phosphorus treatment process removed not only soluble phosphorus but also a portion of TOC remaining after the secondary treatment process. TOC concentration in effluent from PSTWs operated in tandem with industrial wastewater treatment work was higher due to influx of insoluble substances from the industrial wastewater treatment work.In order to lay a foundation for the management of TOC from PSTWs, it is necessary to carry out research on TOC from different perspectives. For example, studies on the generation mechanism of TOC and the impact of TOC on drinking water resources, assessment of effluent qualities through monitoring, and development of measures to control TOC for the preservation of aquatic ecosystem are needed.

        AC PDP의 부화면 시간동안 기입 방전의 시간지연을 각각 조사하였고 기입방전 마진 범위 내에서 추 가 주사전압의 높이를 변화하여 전체 부화면 시간동안 기입방전 시간을 단축시킨다. 첫번째 초기화 기간 동안 높은 상승 경사파 전압이 주사전극에 인가되어 초기화 방전이 발생하고 셀 내부에서 벽전하를 생성한다. 생성된 벽전하는 기입전압과 더해져서 기입 방전을 일으킨다. 첫 번째 부화면 시간에는 초기화 기간 동안 상승 경사파를 갖는 높은 전압에 의해 벽전하가 많이 존재하므로 첫 번째 기입 방전은 다른 부화면 시간보다 빠르게 형성된다. 한편, 두 번째부터 마지막 부화면 시간까지의 기입 방전 생성시간은 셀 내의 벽전하 소멸에 의하여 점차적으로 늦어진다. 본 연구에서는 각 부화면 시간동안 기입방전의 시간지연을 조사하였고, 부화면 시간의 기입기간 마다 추가 주사전압을 다르게 인가하여 전체 기입방전 지연시간을 단축시키는 방법을 제시한다.

        Seasonal characteristics of water and sediment qualities and potential effects of the freshwater discharge from a small tide embankment interior in a coastal area in Goheung county were investigated from May to September in 2012. Chemical oxygen demand values (COD) were mostly higher than 2 mg/L in summer ebb tide, which exceed the standard value of water quality criteria II of acceptable level for aquaculture activities. Nitrogen and phosphorus were found as the limiting nutrients for algae growth in summer and fall and in spring, respectively. Nitrogen was the limiting nutrient for diatom growth in the whole studied period. The sudden high values of COD, ammonia, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) were found in water sample collected from station 5 which located in front of the tide embankment sluice gate during spring ebb tide. The freshwater discharge form the tide embankment interior maybe affected the survey areas during a short time interval. Mean values of eutrophication index of the surveyed coastal region in spring, summer and fall were all bigger than 1. Water quality was mostly considered at level II which acceptable for aquaculture activities. Sediment quality in this study was generally in the range of standard for fisheries environment.

        The predictive capacity of wastewater treatment facility in the industrial park was estimated by the traditional method and on-the-spot survey such as certification of wastewater report and the invoices of water supply and ground water supply. The ratios of a converted wastewater to supplied industrial water between traditional method and on-the-spot survey in the estimation methods were different. By using traditional method, the business type of clothes, accessary and fur production had 77.18 % of waste ratio of wastewater and 10.72 m3/day·1000 m2 unit mass of wastewater as the highest among 9 business types. With the respect to the on-the-spot survey, food manufacturing business type had 75 % of waste ratio of wastewater and 8.35 m3/day·1000 m2 unit mass of wastewater as the highest values. The amount of wastewater from on-the-spot survey method was 541 m3/day less than one from traditional method.

        Positive plate was composed of lead hydroxide via reaction between lead oxide and H2O and lead sulfate was formed of the reaction of lead hydroxide with sulfuric acid. And its density is 3.8 g/cm3, 4.0 g/cm3, 4.2 g/cm3 and 4.4 g/cm3 by controlling volume of refined water. Curing of positive plate is done for low (45℃, 40hr, over 95% of relative humidity) & high (80℃, 40hr, over 95% of relative humidity) temperature, which created 3BS & 4BS active materials. Experimental result of DOD with 100% life cycle test shows that it was not related to the density of active materials but to the low & high temperature aging of active materials. The test makes us to understand that the crystallization which is made by curing of active materials is a more of a main factor than density of active materials under the deep cycle using circumstances. The active materials which were from the high temperature curing are better for deep cycle performance.
