        Yellow-fleshed "Sweet Gold" kiwifruit on Jeju Island were studied to examine how irrigation and soil moisture control affected changes in photosynthetic traits and fruit quality during fruit maturation (120 to 170 days after full bloom). Concerning photosynthetic characteristics, the photosynthetic rate decreased by 10-19%, stomatal conductance by 24-47%, and transpiration rate by 8-25%, when compared to conventional irrigation, as irrigation was reduced and soil moisture content decreased. Fruit weight showed a tendency to increase until harvest, and while a lower soil moisture content led to a less pronounced increase in fruit weight, this difference was not statistically significant. The dry matter rate exhibited a similar trend to the change in fruit weight. Sugar content demonstrated a continuous increase after 130 days, with lower irrigation amounts resulting in higher levels of sugar content due to decreased soil moisture. The Hue value (h°) exhibited a continuous decrease after 140 days from full bloom, correlating with declining soil moisture content. After 130 days from full bloom, soluble sugar content increased rapidly while starch content gradually decreased after 150 days from full bloom. However, with conventional irrigation, the increase in soluble sugar content tended to be less noticeable. This study confirmed that in yellow-fleshed ‘Sweet Gold’ kiwifruit, managing irrigation and soil moisture reduction during the ripening period can lead to decreased fruit weight but increased dry matter, sugar content, and expression of flesh color, ultimately enhancing fruit quality and expediting ripening.

        There are many different types of cultivation in tomatoes for year-round production. One of them, semi-forcing cultivation is characterized by growing seedlings in winter season. If grafted seedlings are used in winter season that energy cost can be reduced, because they have tolerance to cold stress. This study was conducted to analyze the rootstock performance by measuring the growth, yield, and leaf-macronutrient content of cherry tomatoes grown in semi-forcing hydroponics. Three domestic rootstocks ‘HSF4’, ‘21LM’, ‘21A701’, and a control cultivar ‘B-blocking’ were grafted onto jujube-shaped cherry tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) commercial cultivar ‘Nonari’. The total yield per plant with grafted cherry tomato ‘21A701’ was 3,387g, which was 11%, 22% and 24% higher than the yield with ‘B-blocking’, non-grafted one and ‘HSF4’. The stem diameter of ‘21A701’ was thick with 8.26mm, whereas non-grafted one was thin with 7.23mm at 160 days after transplanting. The flowering position of ‘21LM’ was 34% and 47% higher than the flowering position of ‘B-blocking’ and non-grafted one at 153 days after transplanting. The NO3-N concentration in petiole sap of ‘21LM’ was the highest with 1,746mg·L-1 and non-grafted one and ‘HSF4’ were the lowest with 1,252mg·L-1 and 1,245mg·L-1 at 167 days after transplanting. The results indicated that rootstock/scion combinations in cherry tomatoes can affect the plant growth, yield, and the concentration of different NO3-N in leaves at the late growth stage. Both ‘21A701’ and ‘21LM’ have vigorous root system, which influence the growth and yield increased.

        Ramie (Boehmeria nivea M.) has been used for fiber materials in Korea traditionally, but in recent years, the concern with ramie leaves for the food industry such as tteok (a kind of Korean rice cake) industry has been increasing, so a study for eatable ramie is required for the expansion of ramie consumption. Moreover, the ramie varieties for the food industry are not established, so the natural species are cultivated in general; therefore, it is very important to select the ramie varieties for the food industry such as rice cakes, tea, beverage and so on. This study was undertaken to compare the physiochemical properties among 9 ramie lines selected in the Yeonggwang-gun Agricultural Technology Center to select the eatable ramie varieties for the food industry. The contents of the protein among 9 ramie lines was 6.21~7.56% and had the highest content in the YG55. The folic acid (folate) and vitamin C content had varying differences among the 9 lines; the content of folate showed 771.52~1,978.84 μg%, that of vitamin C showed 149.42~275.34 mg%. The ACE inhibitory activity appeared to be the highest in YG88 (21.5%) among the 9 ramie varieties tested.

        This study was performed to determine the optimal time of harvest for ramie leaves with the two varieties (Seocheon Seobang and Seoncheon Baekpi) by comparison of physiological activity and physicochemical characteristics. The crude protein, minerals, ascorbic acid, folate, chlorophyll, ACE inhibitory activity and AChE inhibitory activity were determined. The amount of crude protein in ramie leaf, which was collected in Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, grew up steadily from early May to September. The content of calcium in was higher in Baekpi than in Seobang. Seobang displayed its highest value of 3,569.90 mg% in September, while Baekpi displayed its highest value of 3,163.84 mg% in October. Although, folate and vitamin C contents in the two varieties were slightly different, they were higher as the growth date grew in October. The highest value of chlorophyll content was observed in October, which was later in the vegetative state. ACE inhibitory activity and AChE inhibitory activity appeared to be higher in Baekpi than in Seobang. Between June and August, ACE inhibitory activity was highest in Baekpi variety.

        Recently, remote sensing technology as a nondestructive method has been utilized to detectthe quantity and quality of crops using unmanned aerial system. To predict vegetation growth(leaf dry mass and nitrogen content) of soybean, two vegetation index(NDVI and Green NDVI)were calculated from images acquired by multi-spectral camera mounted on a UAV and eachprediction models between vegetation growth and index were evaluated. As a result, there wasno significant difference between vegetation growth and index when each vegetation stage foreach yellow and black bean were compared to each other. However, there was significantdifference between vegetation growth and index when all vegetation stage for each yellow andblack bean were compared to each other. Moreover, there was significant difference betweenvegetation growth and NDVI(r= 0.799 for leaf dry mass, r= 0.796 for nitrogen content), andGreen NDVI(r= 0.860 for leaf dry mass, r= 0.845 for nitrogen content) for all vegetation stageswith all soybeans. The accuracy and precision of Green NDVI model(R2= 0.740 for leaf drymass, R2= 0.714 for nitrogen content) were better than those of NDVI model regardless ofvarieties and vegetation growth. Therefore, Green NDVI has considerable potential to detect thequantity and quality of soybeans.

        We investigated the differences in survival rates and height growth among 10 sprouting tree species under cattle grazing conditions in a clearcut area of a secondary forest, as well as the relationship between survival and growth and the species' leaf tannin contents. A clearcut area of a deciduous broad-leaved secondary forest was grazed by two breeding cattle from 1990 until 2001. The height and viability of marked sprouting trees in the area were monitored annually before the initial spring grazing period for 12 years. The tannin contents in leaves were measured from 1996 until 1998. The target tree species differed greatly in the patterns of survival and height growth and were classified into four categories based on these patterns. Similarly, tannin contents in leaves varied widely (1.3% to 11.6%) among the species. Survival rates of the target species in 2001 correlated significantly with the tannin contents in leaves. Our findings indicate that tannin content in leaves is an influential factor affecting the survival and growth of sprouting trees under cattle grazing conditions.

        잎상추 수경재배시 배양액 내 NO3-N와 NH4-N 비율 및 pH 조절이 엽중 nitrate 함량에 미치는 효과를 구명하였다. NO3-/NH4+의 비율 처리는 12:1, 10:3, 8:5이었으며, 8:5 처리구에 pH를 자동적으로 조절해준 처리구조 설정하였다. pH의 변화는 12:1 처리구에서는 실험기간 동안 계속적으로 상승하는 경향을 보였고, NH4+의 비율이 높을수록 pH가 상당한 저하하다가 낮은 수준에서 유지되었다. NH4+의 비율이 가장 높았던 8:5에 pH를 자동적으로 조절해준 처리구에서는 5.5-6.5 사이의 안정적인 수준으로 pH를 유지하였다. 엽중 nitrate 함량은 전반적으로 12:1 처리구에서는 점점 감소하는 경향을 보였으나, 12:1과 8:5에 pH를 조절해준 처리구에서는 비슷한 양상으로 수확시마다 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 즉, NH4+의 비율을 높이고 배양액의 pH를 조절하는 것이 생육 및 엽중 nitrate 함량에 가장 좋은 것으로 나타났다

        시설 오이재배에서 조절가능한 환경요인들, 즉 광도, CO2 농도, 온도 그리고 엽중 질소 농도의 변화에 따른 양액재배 오이 엽의 총광합성 속도를 측정하였다. 광보상점은 10~20μmol.m-2 .s-1 정도로 낮았고 광포화점은 1000μmol.m-2 .s-1 이상이었으며, 오이의 총광합성 속도는 온도가 상승할수록 증가속도는 감소하지만 지속적인 증가를 보였으나 24~32℃ 사이에서 광합성 속도는 큰 차이를 보이지 않아 이 범위가 오이 생육에 대한 적정온도인 것으로 나타났다. CO2 보상점은 20-40μmol.mol-1 사이에 위치하였고 CO2포화점은 1200μmol.mol-1이상으로 나타났으며 엽중은 질소함량의 증가에 따른 잎의 총광합성 속도의 변화는 sigmoid형의 증가추세를 보였다. 요인들간의 상호작용 효과에서는 모든 경우 상승적으로 나타나, 한 요인의 수준이 증가함에 따라 타 요인의 수준의 증가에 따른 총광합성 속도도 상승적을 증가하였다. 각환경요인의 변화와 요인들간의 상호작용에 따른 총광합성 속도의 변화에 대한 수리적 모형을 개발하였다. 이들 모형은 시설 내 환경변이에 따른 오이의 생육 내지는 수량에서의 차이를 밝히는데 이용될 수 있으며 오이의 식물생장 모형이나 더 나아가 경영합리화를 위한 오이 생산 전문가 시스템의 개발에 필요한 기초 자료로 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

        결구상추의 엽중 nitrate 함량을 줄이고자 수확 7일전 Yamazaki 상추 배양액에 포함되어있는 질소의 양을 조절하였다. Yamazaki 상추 배양액내의 질소를 1배(6.Sme/l), 3/4배(4.gme/l), 2/4배(3.3me/l), 1/4배 (1.6me/l)로 처리해 주었다. 배양액 pH는 전반적으로 7.2~8.4로 높은 수준을 유지하였다. 질소의 양이 많을수록 pH와 EC는 상승하였다. 엽중 nitrate 함량은 1/4배 처리구에서 가장 낮았으며, 다른 처리구 사이에는 유의성이 없었다. 처리에 관계없이 결구되지 않은 겉잎이 결구된 잎보다 nitrate 함량이 낮았다. 결구부의 무게, 폭 및 지상부중은 1/4배 처리구에서 가장 낮은 경향을 보였다.

        Water status of intact plants has been optically estimated by measuring reflectance at the wavelengths 1,450 nm and 1,900 nm based on their signal strengths. Although another water band at 970 nm is considered to have very small signals, the band apparently lies within the detection range of inexpensive spectrometer and plain charge-coupled device (CCD) camera used in wild fire studies. However measurement of the reflectance at 970 nm has been rarely applied to estimate the water status of dead plant materials such as fallen branch, twig, and leaf. To test the possibility of applying water reflectance at 970 nm to estimate the water content (WC) in leaf litter, the reflectance in various WC values were measured in the leaf litter of three Quercus species (Q aliena, Q aliena, Q mongolica, and Quercus variabilis). The results showed that the WC in the leaf litter can be determined by reflectance water index (WI) in the three Quercus species (WC=1,450×WI-1,378.8, r=0.865). However, there was no interaction effect in the relationship between WI and WC among the litter of the three Quercus species.

        Background : Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is a member of the malvaceae family and has been prescribed in traditional folk medicine in Africa and India. It showed broad biologicas activities such as hepatoprotective activity, antioxidative activity and haematinic activity. Kenaf leaves contain a lot of vegetable calcium, protein, iron and vitamins, so have high potential as functional food. Thus, the present study purposed to analyze useful substances contained in kenaf leaves and their activities and look for their possibilities as the materials of food and medicine. Methods and Results : We sowed the seeds of three varieties of kenaf, namely, Dowling, Everglade-41 and Tainung-2 at planting space of 20 × 20㎝ on the field and collected plants on the 98th , 127th and 141st days from sowing. The total polyphenol content was measured using a slightly modified Folin-Denis method, which uses the phenomenon that a phenolic substance turns blue by reaction with phosphomolybdate. Conclusion : We analyzed SOD enzyme activity related to the scavenging of superoxide anion radical (․O2-) through NBT reduction. As for the SOD activity of leaf extract by variety, the activity was 92.6%, 91.0% and 92.6%, respectively, in Tainung-2 on day 98, 127 and 141 from sowing, slightly higher than those in the other two varieties but not significantly different. The activity was slightly higher in the middle period of growth than in the harvest period, but not much different according to harvest time. As for the DPPH radical scavenging activity of leaf extract by variety, the activity was 80.87% and 80.71%, respectively, in Tainung-2 on day 98 (30th of October)and day127 (28th of September), slightly higher than the other two varieties.

        돌산갓에서의 glucosinolates인 sinigrin의 분석법을 확립하기 위해 다양한 용매를 이용하여 추출 후 정성·정량하였다. 돌산갓을 뿌리, 줄기, 잎으로 구분하여 50% CH3CN, 10% NH4Cl, 60% CH2OH, 70% CH3OH 을 이용해 추출 시 50% CH3CN이 가장 sinigrin 함량이 높게 나타났으며 나머지 용매들은 큰 차이가 없었다. 또한 갓 부위별에서 sinigrin함량은 큰 차이가 없었으며 줄기 부위의 50% CH3CN추출물의 sinigrin함량이 728 ppm으로 다소 높게 나타났다. Sinigrin은 농도별로 standard curve를 작성하여 HPLC에 의한 돌산갓 부위별 sinigrin 함량을 정량화 하였고 HPLC로 분석시 UV detector 감도는 242 nm보다 228 nm에서 높게 나타났으며 228 nm에서는 줄기, 뿌리, 잎 순서로 sinigrin함량이 나타났다. 50% CH3CN로 추출한 돌산갓의 chromatogram은 표준물질인 sinigrin의 retention time과 일치하였으며, 잎에서 나타난 peak는 glucosinolates인 glucoraphanin으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과로부터 돌산갓에 함유된 sinigrin 분석을 위한 추출용매는 50% CH3CN, UV detector 파장은 228 nm가 가장 적합하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, sinigrin의 추출 및 분석이 체계화됨으로써 돌산갓을 이용한 다양한 식품의 저장기간에 따른 sinigrin 함량변화 및 생리기능에 관한 연구에 활용 될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        본 시험은 논에서의 콩 재배 확대 및 기상여건상 상습적인 과습 장해에 대비하여 내습성 콩 품종의 조기육성 및 습해 경감기술 개발을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행하였던 바, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 엽 질소농도는 2003년과 204년 모두 대조구에 비해 과습구가 유의적으로 감소하였는데, 그 감소정도는 장엽콩이 가장 컸고 풍산나물콩과 무한콩이 적었다. 이는 과습처리후 풍산나물콩과 무한콩의 뿌리와 근류의 회복력이 빨라 질소흡수가 상대적으로 많아졌기 때문인 것으로 판단됨. 2. 대조구 SPAD 값에 대한 과습구 SPAD 값의 백분율로 나타낸 잎의 녹색도는 V5 와 R2 stage 과습처리 시 모두 과습처리 종료 21일 후에는 풍산나물콩과 무한콩의 녹색도가 66~74%로 회복력이 높았으나, 장엽콩, 명주나 물콩 및 Peking은 40% 이하로 회복되지 못했다. 3. 엽병의 ureide 함량은 2003년과 2004년 모두 처리시기에 상관없이 대조구에 비해 47~64% 정도 감소하였는데, 그 감소정도는 풍산나물콩과 무한콩이 적었고 장엽콩, 명주나물콩 및 Peking이 컸다. 이는 ureide 함량은 근류의 활성에 직접적인 영향을 받으므로 과습처리 후 근류의 회복력과 깊은 상관이 있는 것으로 사료됨. 4. ureide 함량과 SPAD 값과의 관계는 ureide 함량 3mmol/g 까지는 SPAD 값과 직선적인 관계가 있으나 ureide 함량 3 mmol/g 이상에서는 SPAD 값의 차이가 구분되지 않을 것으로 추정된다. 엽질소농도와 SPAD값 간에는 높은 정의 상관이 있었다. 5. 포장시험에서의 수량관련 형질 및 수량은 품종에 상관없이 V5 stage보다는 R2 stage의 과습처리에서 수량감소가 더 컸으며, 품종별로는 과습처리 시 풍산나물콩과 무한콩이 수량감소가 적어 습해에 강하였다. 6. 과습처리 시기와 수량관련 형질과 생리적 형질들과의 관계를 분석한 결과, V5 stage 과습처리시에는 개체당 협수와 수량은 엽질소농도, SPAD값 및 엽병의 ureide함량과 정의 상관이 있었다. R2 stage 과습처리 시 같은 경향을 보였으며 특히 SPAD 값은 수량과 고도로 유의한 상관을 보였다. 7. 결론적으로 습해처리 시 엽질소농도, 엽병의 ureide 및 엽색도의 변화는 내습성 콩 품종을 선발하는데 객관적인 지표가 될 수 있는 것으로 판단됨.

        We have developed and tested a new method for nondestructive estimation of chlorophyll- and nitrogen-contents in rye leaf. It was found that the relation-ships among nitrogen, chlorophyll content and fresh weight were significantly positive correlated. Nitrogen and chlorophyll content were positively correlated whereas correlation coefficients among R, G, R-B and G-B on the basis of photo-numerical values were negative. We have found that R/(R-B) obtained from data of digital camera is the best criterion to estimate the chlorophyll content of leaves. The regression curves of the relation between R/(R-B) and chlorophyll content were also calculated from the data collected on cloudy days. The coefficients of determination (~textrmr2 ) were ranged from 0.33 to 0.99. In this study, the accuracy in estimating chlorophyll content from the color data of digital camera image could be improved by correcting with R, G, and B values. It is suggested that, for practical purposes, the image values estimated with sufficient accuracy using a portable digital camera can be applied for determining chlorophyll content and nitrogen status in plant leaves.

        Nitrate in edible vegetables is converted to nitrite by nitrate reductase(NR) and/or bacteria in intestines. Nitrite and amino, in the intestine of some animals and human, bind to form nitrosamine, which is toxic and known as carcinogen. This study was carried out to examine the effect of added chlorides and their concentrations on growth, yield and nitrate content in leaf lettuce plants in hydroponics. Seeds of lettuce cv, "Samsunjokchukmyon" were planted on April 29, and seedlings were planted on June 2, and were cultured until July 5 in 1998. KCI and CaCl₂ were used as chloride source and their concentrations were 1, 2 and 4 me/L, respectively, in the lettuce standard nutrient solution for National Horticultural Research Institute(NHRI). Completely randomized design with 3 replications was used. Nitrate content and NR activity were measured 2 and 5 weeks after planting(WAP). The obtained results were summarized as the follows : Leaf weight per plant was difference from harvest dates and treatments, but total leaf weight was not significantly different among treatments. Number of leaves was higher in KCI 2 me/L, CaCl₂1 me/L and control at 2 WAP than the others, and was higher in KCI 1 me/L, and control at 3 WAP than others, and was higher in control at 5 WAP. Total number of harvested leaves was the highest in control with 14, which followed by KCI 2 me/L and CaCl₂1 me/L. Nitrate content was decreased by addition of chloride in nutrient solution. Nitrate content in the 3rd and 9th leaves was significantly decreased. NR activity was higher in control and CaCl₂ addition treatments, while KCI addition treatments reduced NR activity. However, no direct relationship with nitrate was observed. Growth characteristics such leaf length and leaf width were not significantly influenced by chloride addition.

        본 연구는 방향성 약용작물인 삼백초, 구릿대, 천궁의 향기 성분 조성과 식물정유 함량을 조사하여 향료업과 관련된 다양한 식품첨가물 또는 향원 가능성을 알아보기 위하여 몇가지 실험한 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 1. 삼백초의 향기성분은 22종으로 1,6-octadien-3-ol, 1, 3-benzodioxole, myristicin, α-cadinol, patchouene였고 조성은 alcohol류 6종, ester류 1종, ether류 2종, hydrocarbon류 11종, ketone류 1종, fatty acid류 1종이었다. 2. 구릿대의 향기성분은 14종으로 주요 성분은 3-carene, β-caryophyllene, β-cubebene, butylated hydroxytoluene, caryophyllene oxide, piperonal이었고 조성은 alcohol류 1종, ester류 1종, ether류 1종, hydrocarbon류 10종, aldehyde류 1종이었다. 3. 천궁의 향기성분은 16종으로 주요성분은 aristolene, benzocycloheptene, ylangene, valencene, β-cedrene, satene, and menthofuran이었고 조성은 alcohol류 2종, ether류 1종, hydrocarbon류 12종. furan류 1종이었다. 4. 삼백초, 구릿대 및 천궁 잎의 식물정유 함량은 각각 0.987%, 0.452%, 0.439%로 삼백초가 가장 높은 함량을 보였다.
