        National parks, which are preserved areas of 6,726.298 km2(3,972.589 km2 on land and 2,753.709 km2, at sea), take up 6.71% of the national territory, and they are classified by type into 17 mountain parks, 4 maritime or coastal parks, and 1 historical site park. Of them all, the maritime or coastal national parks, which are preserved areas covering wide tracts of maritime, lately attract increasing numbers of visitors. In this light, this study identifies the issues with the maritime or coastal national parks such as the changes in the number of visitors and the unbalance involved in the budget execution, based on the visitors to the national parks and the specifics of budget executed for them. On this basis, the study has conducted the research with a view to suggesting improvements for more useful management and operation of the maritime or coastal national parks. As a result, the study has reached the following conclusions. First, to accommodate those who want to visit the maritime or coastal national parks, the tour infrastructure needs to be expanded to guide the visitors’ use of the facilities by focusing on their touring behavior and characteristics. Second, budget should be acquired through diversifying revenue structure to eliminate hugely unbalanced budget. Third, visitors nowadays come to national parks for recreational experience or to tour nature, but the maritime or coastal national parks focus on cultural facilities. To accommodate the visitors’ needs, the parks should get diversified visitor facilities that reflect the regional characteristics.

        주왕산국립공원의 관속식물상을 2017년도 3월부터 10월까지 총 13회에 걸쳐 조사하였다. 증거표본과 사진을 바탕으로 작성한 소산 관속식물은 112과 399속 672종 4아종 72변종 10품종의 총 758분류군으로 확인되었다. 이 중 기존의 조사에서는 발견되지 않았으나 본 조사에서 최초로 밝혀진 분류군은 221분류군이었다. 멸종위기야생식물은 가시오갈피, 큰바늘꽃 등 2분류군이 확인되었고, 희귀식물은 깽깽이풀, 백작약, 꼭지연잎꿩의다리 등 5분류군이 관찰되었다. 한반도 고유식물은 날개현호색, 노랑무늬붓꽃, 몽울토현삼 등 20분류군이 조사되었고, 식물구계학적 특정식물종은 Ⅲ~V등급에 해당하는 40분류군이 확인되었다. 귀화식물은 총 55분류군으로 조사되었고, 생태계교란종은 가시상추, 돼지풀, 미국쑥부쟁이 등 3분류군이 확인되었다. 기후변화 취약종은 총 36분류군이 분포하였고, 북방계 21분류군, 남방계 2분류군, 관심식물은 13분류군으로 확인되었다.

        This study aims to analyze and compare environmental attitudes of interest groups, including visitors, local residents, Buddhist monks, and staff of the Korea National Park Service in Gayasan National Park. To achieve this purpose, five hypotheses were formulated and tested. While three hypotheses were statistically rejected, two were accepted. In every interest group, the environmental attitude level of women was higher than that of men. Local residents particularly showed statistically significant differences in accordance with occupation. The difference in environmental attitude between visitors and local residents was not statistically significant. Finally, the environmental attitude level between interest groups was divided into three groups. The staff of the Korea National Park Service showed the highest level of environmental attitude, followed by Buddhist monks, and a group of visitors and residents recorded the lowest. However, the average level of environmental attitude of every interest group scored above the mid-point of 3. Therefore, it can be concluded that there exists no difference between or conflicts among interest groups related to strengthening conservation and management policies regarding the protection of Gayasan National Park.

        The purpose of this study is to provide the baseline data for conservation and management of the ecosystem of Gyeongju National Park by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed in Mt. Manhongbong (522 m). The vascular plants were surveyed form May 2012 to August 2017. The vascular plants on this site was classified as follow. Based on voucher specimens, the vascular plants of this site consisted of 91 families, 292 genera, 397 species, 4 subspecies, 48 varieties and 8 forms. The 2 taxa of threatened species, 11 taxa of rare plants and 14 taxa of Korean endemic plants were investigated. The specific plants by floristic region were totally 39 taxa, which were 3 taxa of grade V, 5 taxa of grade IV, 2 taxa of grade III, 11 taxa of grade II and 18 taxa of grade I. The naturalized plants were identified as 33 taxa and the percentage of naturalized index (NI) was 7.2%, and urbanized index (UI) was 10.3%, respectively. The invasive alien plants were 2 taxa, such as Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. and Aster pilosus Willd.

        This study aims to analyze and compare the environmental attitude level and characteristics of interest groups, including visitors, local residents, and local public servants (Cheongsong-gun), in Juwangsan National Park. A statistical analysis of 418 questionnaires concluded that there was no statistically significant gender difference in the level of environmental attitude between the visitors, local residents, and local public servants. In the case of visitors, no significant difference was found in the level of environmental attitude according to age and occupation, but the level of environmental attitude of local residents showed a significant difference according to age and occupation. In general visitors, local residents, and local public servants all scored above the mid point on average, but no statistically significant difference in environmental attitude was observed between these groups. Therefore, it is concluded that mutual consensus can be derived from these interest groups to strengthen the protection of Juwangsan National Park.

        본 연구는 경주국립공원 단석산지구에 분포하는 관속식물상 을 조사함과 아울러 자연자원의 보전과 관리를 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 수행하였다. 단석산지구를 대상으로 2011년 5월부터 2016년 10월까지 식물상을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 증거표본을 바탕으로 식물상 목록을 작성한 결과, 97과 331속 489종 4아종 48변종 11품종으로 총 552분류군이 확인되었다. 희귀식물은 11분류군, 한국특산식물은 14분류군이 조사되었다. 식물구계학적 특정식물은 V등급은 1분류군, IV등급은 5분 류군, III등급은 8분류군, II등급은 12분류군, I등급은 24분류군 등 총 50분류군이 확인되었다. 귀화식물은 37분류군, 생태계교 란식물은 2분류군이 조사되었다.

        This study was carried out to investigate the vascular plants of the protected area for forest genetic resource conservation in the National Yonghyeon natural recreation forest. The vascular plants collected 7 times (from February to September 2014) were consist of total 460 taxa; 95 families, 280 genera, 398 species, 3 subspecies, 50 varieties and 9 forms respectively. The 6 taxa of Korean endemic plants and 8 taxa of Korean rare plants were investigated. The floristic regional indicator plants found in this area were 43 taxa comprising 7 taxa of grade Ⅳ, 7 taxa of grade Ⅲ, 12 taxa of grade Ⅱ, 17 taxa of grade Ⅰ. The naturalized plants were 39 taxa, therefore naturalized ratio was 8.5%. 460 taxa listed consist of 189 taxa (41.1%) of edible plants, 155 taxa (33.7%)of medicinal plants, 177 taxa (38.5%) of pasture plants, 52 taxa (11.3%) of ornamental plants, 17 taxa (3.7%)of timber plants, 12 taxa (2.6%) of fiber plants and 3 taxa (0.7%) of industrial plants. The vegetation status of investigated area was comparatively well conserved, but human-induced damage is increasingly greater. Therefore, a long-term monitoring of vascular plants and vegetation movement must become accomplished.

        We conducted a total of 28 surveys from March to October 2016 in Gayasan National Park, to identify threatened plants for climate change, as well as for the effective management of biological organisms and resources against climate changes in Korea. Regarding threatened plants for climate change, we identified a total of 39 taxa, with 11 northern, 2 southern, and 26 taxa of concern. Among these taxa, 33 were identified as wild species. The species threatened by climate change located in the subalpine regions of Gayasan National Park were Abies holophylla Maxim., Abies koreana Wilson, Pinus koraiensis Siebold & Zucc., Betula ermanii Cham., Berberis amurensis Rupr., Rhododendron tschonoskii Maxim., Vaccinium hirtum var. koreanum (Nakai) Kitam., Primula modesta var. hannasanensis T.Yamaz., Trientalis europaea var. arctica (Fisch.) Ledeb., Thymus quinquecostatus Celak., Parasenecio firmus (Kom.) Y.L.Chen, and Lilium cernuum Kom. These species are expected to be particularly vulnerable to the effects of global warming, since they were confirmed to have a very narrow vertical distribution range. Moreover, although the following species are not included in the list of plants threatened by climate change, it is assumed that the endemic species that grow at the summit, and Grade V floristics special plants, such as Pedicularis hallaisanensis Hurus., Allium thunbergii var. deltoides (S.O.Yu, S.Lee & W.Lee) H.J.Choi & B.U.Oh, Heloniopsis tubiflora Fuse, N.S.Lee & M.N. Tamura, Aletris glabra Bureau & Franch, and Gymnadenia cucullata (L.) Rich., will also be extremely vulnerable to climate change. Therefore, we believe that measures for the conservation of these species are urgently needed, and also that the definition of species threatened by climate change should be broadened to include more objective and valid taxa through the long-term monitoring of species distributed around the summit area.

        This study aimed to develop strategies to re-establish the Park Nature Conservation Area in Bukhansan National Park, reflecting landscape ecological value by using the zonation program Marxan with Zones. Planning unit was set by watershed, and the basic data were mapped, considering topographical and ecological values. Mapped indicators were analyzed with the application framework of Marxan with Zones by indexing some indicators. The zones divided into Park Nature Conservation Area (Zone A), Park Nature Environment AreaⅠ(Zone B) which is reflected on the concept of Potential Park Nature Conservation Area and Park Nature Environment AreaⅡ(Zone C). The best solution for each of the scenarios was fixed through the sensitiveness analysis. From these, the final solution was selected considering five criteria including area ratio of conservation area and grouping. Lastly, the final solution was verified in the overlapped analysis with recent zonation. According to the results, the number of watersheds was 77, with an average area of 1,007,481 m2. In terms of basic mapping and indexation, the slope index and number of landscape resources for topographical property were average 0.22 and 38 places, respectively. Biotope index was average 0.69 and legally protected species was 14 species, reflecting ecological values. As the social and economic indicators, trail index was average 0.04, and the number of tour and management facilities was 43 places. Through the framework of Marxan with Zones, the best solution for scenario 1 which was set by the highest conservation criteria was selected as the final solution, and the area ratio of Park Nature Conservation Area and grouping was excellent. As the result of overlapped analysis, suggested zonation of the Park Nature Conservation was better than the recent zonation in the area raito (28.3%), biotope gradeⅠ(15.4%) and the distribution points (10 places) of legally protected species with verification of proper distribution of conservation features according to the zone.

        This study was carried out to provide the basic informations on the sustainable management methods for soil resources by determining the soil physico-chemical properties of specialized plant gardens (Sedum garden, Fern garden, Medicinal plant garden, Ornament plant garden, Rare & endemic plant garden, and Shrub garden) and forest in Korea National Arboretum. Soil particle size showed similar distribution except for Sedum garden and Medicinal plant garden. Soil bulk densities were significantly difference among forest and specialized plant garden (p<0.05) and ranged from 0.79 g/cm 3 in Sedum garden to 1.13 g/cm 3 in shrub garden. Sedum garden and medicinal plant garden showed significantly low of soil moisture content (p<0.05). Soil pH ranged from 4.87 in Sedum garden to 5.41 in rare & endemic plant garden. Soil organic matter content ranged from 2.61% in Sedum garden to 4.71% in forest. The lower value in total N content was 0.11% in Sedum garden and 0.18% in medicinal plant garden. Available phosphorus was significantly lower in Sedum garden and medicinal plant garden than in other specialized plant garden of ranging from 16.90 ppm to 20.34 ppm (p<0.05). The contents of inorganic NH4 + and NO3 - were significantly different among the specialized plant gardens (p<0.05). The ratios of NO3 - to total inorganic N content ranged from 28% in Sedum garden to 44% in fern garden and forest. N mineralization and nitrification rate were also significantly different among the specialized plant gardens (p<0.05).

        Aerosol mass size distributions were investigated at 865 m high the of Jirisan national park. A nanosampler cascade impactor was used to collect aerosols. The atmospheric aerosol particles had a unimodal mass size distribution, which peaked at 0.5–1.0 μm, and a mass aerodynamic diameter of 1.13 μm. The annual average concentrations of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, PM1, PM0.5 and PM0.1 were 20.9 μg/m3, 19.3 μg/m3, 14.9 μg/m3, 10.7 μg/m3, 5.3 μg/m3, 1.2 μg/m3, respectively. TSP concentrations were below 30 μg/m3 during the sampling period. On average PM10, PM2.5, PM1, PM0.5 and PM0.1 made up 0.91, 0.70, 0.41, 0.19 and 0.07 of TSP, respectively. The annual average of PM2.5/PM10 ratio was 0.77.

        This study examined the effectiveness of and satisfaction of visitors with the Environmental Improvement Project on national parks’ trail entry areas. A survey was conducted to improve the proposal framework based on the data. Data for the study were obtained from 6400 respondents who used 28 national park offices at 32 national park trail entry areas. The field research was collected in 3200 surveys, divided between pre- and post-implementation of the Environmental Improvement Project. The study variables consisted of socio-demographics, visitors’ perceptions on the environmental improvement of trail entries, effects of the environmental improvement, and visitor satisfaction. Several important results were found. First, the environment of trail entries has a significant impact on the formation of images and user satisfaction of national parks. Second, the influence of the trail entry improvement showed that 71.8% of visitors rated the trail entry as environmentally friendly after the Environmental Improvement Project, compared to 48.5% of visitors rated the trail entry as environmentally friendly before the Environmental Improvement Project. The findings indicated that a top priority of environmental improvement of the trail entries needs to be the installation of convenience facilities such as rest areas, restrooms, and direction boards (pre: 34.5%, post: 32.6%). Third, functionality and the other nine variables were shown to enhance the effect of the environmental improvement of the trail entries at the 1% statistical significance level. Finally, results indicated that the overall satisfaction of the visitors with the park was significantly higher after the environmental improvement (t-value=25.741, p=.000), showing the satisfaction score was higher after the environmental improvement (pre: 3.51, post: 4.12), with a statistically significant difference at the 1 % level. This study helps to understand trail entries, which have influenced the image of the national park and satisfaction. These findings can be utilized to manage and design a national park as a public space.

        This is a comparative study focused on the scenic landscape preferences derived from visitors's perceptions at the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail in Bukhansan National Park. Unlike previous landscape assessment methods, this study contains more direct and on-site analysis with methods of understanding the visitors’ perceptions by using ‘visitor employed photography(VEP)’ which requires each visitor to take preferable scenic landscape with one’s own smart phone camera. The scenic landscape types at two different trails were categorized and then the types favoring most of participants were verified. There are total number of 16 visual landscape types preferred by participants at both the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail in Bukhansan National Park. As in terms of consensus photography(CP) on the Dulle-gil was found to have more diverse elements including both natural and artificial elements compare to the uphill trail. Furthermore, the perceptually excited node(PEN) at the Dulle-gill were found to be more scattered evenly whereas PEN at the uphill trail were concentrated on the entrance and the top of the mountain. It is necessary to consider that the scenic landscape management at the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail require different approaches. Facilities were set based on careful consideration of distinctive geographical features and vegetation in the Dulle-gil. And the management need to be focus on the 'forested area' maintaining natural state in the uphill trail. Futhermore, the result of the CP and PEN in the trails would be helpful to proceed the next step of landscape perception study depending on characteristics of groups.

        This study compared Gwang-ju citizens’ images of Mudeungsan National Park (MNP) between pre- and post-national establishment. Data were collected from 371 Gwang-ju citizens during October 2015 using questionnaire survey. The results showed that there were differences in images of MNP between pre- and post-national park establishment. Five image factors (i.e., ‘park managerial state’, ‘place of recreation and forest healing’, ‘historical and cultural place’, ‘touristic place’, ‘accessibility of place’) out of the six image factors extracted from 25 image items using factor analysis were positively changed. The image of ‘crowdedness of place’ factor, however, was negatively changed. Four variables such as ‘awareness of MNP establishment’, ‘park managerial state’ factor, ‘frequency of visits after MNP establishment’, and ‘gender’ influenced overall MNP image. Some practical implications were discussed from a managerial point of view.

        The distribution characteristics of functional feeding groups and biological evaluation of water quality with benthic macroinvertebrates were investigated from 2013 to 2014 in the mountain streams of Jirisan National Park. Both quantitative and qualitative collection had been performed six times during study periods in twelve sites located at upstream, midstream and downstream of four valleys, Chilsungol, Baemsagol, Daesunggol and Piagol of freshwater ecosystem in Jirisan National Park. As results, the total collected benthic macroinvertebrates were 3 phyla, 4 classes, 11 orders, 37 families, 107 species and 4,028 individuals. In 2013, 3 phyla, 4 classes, 10 orders, 32 families, 89 species and 1,829 individuals were collected. And in 2014, 3 phyla, 4 classes, 9 orders, 31 families, 80 species and 2,199 individuals were identified. The total dominant species was Ecdyonurus kibumensis, and EPT groups occupied 80.39% of total species number. Biotic indices were also compared to site and to season. The dominant index (DI) was highest at the downstream of Baemsagol in the spring of 2013, and the evenness index (J') was highest at the downstream of Daesunggol in the summer of 2013. Both diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) were highest at the upstream of Baemsagol in the summer of 2014. The correlation between altitude above sea level and functional feeding groups of benthic macroinvertebrates was also researched in this study. As a result, the species number of shredders and predators have significantly increased according to the increase of the altitude of their habitat. On the other hand, individuals of gathering collectors have increased according to the increase of altitude. The biological water quality was evaluated and compared with several methods in this study, and we suggest that ESB and GPI are more appropriate than KSI and BMI to evaluate biological water quality of mountain stream water.

        This study was carried out to investigate the vascular plants of the protected area for forest genetic resource conservation in the Korea national Baekdudaegan arboretum. The vascular plants collected 12 times (from April 2007 to August 2014) were consisted of total 569 taxa; 89 families, 289 genera, 489 species, 5 subspecies, 66 varieties and 9 forms respectively. The 20 taxa of Korean endemic plants and 21 taxa of Korean rare plants were investigated. The floristic regional indicator plants found in this area were 112 taxa comprising 2 taxa of grade Ⅴ, 8 taxa of grade Ⅳ, 23 taxa of grade Ⅲ, 40 taxa of grade Ⅱ, 39 taxa of grade Ⅰ. The introduced and naturalized plants were counted as 22 taxa, therefore naturalized ratio was 3.8%. 577 taxa listed consists of 223 taxa (39.2%) of edible plants, 168 taxa (29.5%) of medicinal plants, 202 taxa (35.5%) of pasture plants, 58 taxa (10.2%) of ornamental plants, 26 taxa (4.6%) of timber plants, 5 taxa (0.9%) of fiber plants and 4 taxa (0.7%) of industrial plants.

        The ethnobotanical study was conducted to record and conserve the traditional knowledge of botanical taxa in Hallyeo-Haesang National Park area, S. Korea from 2012 to 2013. According to the survey results, derived from 1,430 sheets of 183 residents at 70 places, the ethnobotanical plants in Hallyeo-Haesang National Park area consisted of a total 247 taxa; 82 families, 197 genera, 224 species, 3 subspecies, 19 varieties and 1 form. The analysis of usage for 247 taxa showed that the edible use was the highest with 166 taxa, followed by medicinal with 138 taxa, craft with 27 taxa, material with 16 taxa and ritual with 9 taxa respectively. The leaf of plant was the most useful part, followed by stem and fruit plant. Quantitative analysis of the ethnobotanical plants in Hallyeo-Haesang National Park area was performed by the basic values of FC, NU and UR, and indices of CI, RFC, RI and CV. As a result, The CI places Artemisia princeps in the first position, followed by Pueraria lobata, Taraxacum platycarpum. The RFC place A. princeps in first position, followed by Achyranthes japonica, Aster scaber. The RI places A. princeps in the first position, followed by P. lobata, Pinus densiflora. The CV places A. princeps in the first position, followed by P. lobata, A. japonica. Farfugium japonicum had been used as specific ethnobotanical plant in this area, for arthralgia, postpartum arthrodynia, circulatory disturbance.

        This study was carried out to systematically maintain and manage the trails by assessing the physical characteristics, the types of deterioration and impact rating class of trails located in Mt. Nam District of the Gyeongju National Park. The major trails followed 6 routes including Sambulsa-Geumobong(A), Yongjangsaji-Geumobong(B), Yongjanggol-Yiyoungjae- Gowibong(C), Cheonusa-Gowibong(D), Sangseojang-Forest road(E) and Tongiljeon-Forest road(F). The routes length of A was 2.2 km, 2.7 km of B, 3.4 km of C, 1.3 km of D, 2.0 km of E and 1.0 km of F. In the physical characteristics, A was the widest and F was the narrowest in the width and bared width of trail. In depth of erosion, B was the deepest and E was the shallowest. D was the steepest and E was the gentlest in the slope. In the results of analysing the types of deterioration, A were 13 types, 11 types of B, C and D, 10 types of E and 6 types of F. The times of appearance of deterioration types in A were 86 times, 75 times of B, 105 times of C, 48 times of D, 47 times of E and 13 times of F. In case of the impact rating class, trail erosion was Ⅱ degree, Ⅰ degree of trail expansion, root exposure, trail divergence and rock exposure.

        This study is conducted to determine the damage, distinguish the types and identify the restoration by that type for 13 Korea national parks out of 21. There are 21 Korea national parks are in Korea covering 6.67% of the country or 6,656 km2 (3,902 km2 on land and 2,754 km2 in the sea) currently since the area around Jirisan (440 km2) was designated as the first Korea national parks in 1967. With the cancellation of entrance admission on Korea national parks since 2007, annual visitors to the Korea national parks have grown from 37 millions in 2008 to 46 millions by 2013 and continue to grow due to numerous leisure activities, alpine activities and social changes. As such, Korea national parks are natural resource with high value to be conserved and are attracting significant attention as recreational spaces for people at the same time. On the other hand, there have been issues of soil erosions or disturbed vegetation due to increased number of visitor to the national parks. Korea national parks area damage to its type and damage characteristics to analyse the 13 Korea national parks out of 21 on July 2012 March, Korea national parks over the subjects of the National Park from damaged area status Survey analysis by the Korea National Park Service. As a result, 203 million units in the 16 Korea national parks damaged land of the reform package during ecological trail (including non-regular hiking trails) 153 (77.66%), damaged valleys 20(9.14%) independent damaged area, 13 disconnected ecological axis(7.61%), closed trail(2.03%) (3.55%), and line type damage(like a non-regular hiking trails) appears to be a high ratio. Korea national parks damaged land of the results identified, by contrast ratio and the annual number of visitors Bukhansan national park(49.26%), Gyeongju national park(23.65%) damaged land rates, such as Seorasan national park(4.93%), Songnisan national park (4.43 %), Gyeryongsan national park(3.45%), and the annual number of visitors be similar result. The National Park Service has been reporting on damages and restorations but damages and their types have not been established yet. Damages have been generally studied and categorized on hiking trails due caused by heavy traffic on them but the reports were limited on hiking trails only. Since damage to the Korea national parks are not limited on the hiking trails, it is necessary to determine damages in various aspects. Thus, in this study, damage types, spatial characteristics, causes and restorations are analyzed based on the survey results of damages to national parks in order to provide a basis for the efficient management and operation of the Korea national parks.

        The purpose of this study is to offer the flora data for conserving the biodiversity of Gyeongju National Park by objective surveying and analysing the flora distributed in Mt. Gumi District, Gyeongju National Park, South Korea. The flora of Mt. Gumi were surmmarized as 476 taxa including 97 families, 297 genera, 419 species, 3 subspecies, 46 varieties and 8 forms. The rare plants were 6 taxa such as Aristolochia contorta, Paeonia lactiflora var. trichocarpa, Potentilla discolor, Berchemia berchemiaefolia, Trigonotis icumae and Iris odaesanensis. The Korean endemic plants were 9 taxa such as Carpinus laxiflora, Pseudostellaria coreana, Philadelphus schrenkii, Indigofera koreana, Lespedeza maritima, Vicia chosenensis, Galium koreanum, Lonicera subsessilis and Weigela subsessilis. The specific plants by floristic region were 38 taxa such as Salix chaenomeloides (I), Hylomecon vernalis (I), Oxalis obtriangulata (I), Viola orientalis (II), Adoxa moschatellina (II), Cirsium chanroenicum (II), Vitex negundo var. incisa (III) and so forth. The naturalized plants were 36 taxa such as Fallopia dumetorum, Chenopodium album, Lepidium virginicum, Amorpha fruticosa, Euphorbia supina, Carduus crispus, Erigeron strigosus, Festuca myuros and so forth. The invasive aline plant was Aster pilosus. The target plants adaptable to climate change were 8 taxa such as Artemisia rubripes, Carpesium macrocephalum and so forth.
