        The purpose of this study is to detect metabolic syndrome components related to exposure of organic solventthrough comparison and analysis of metabolic syndrome components between workers at the workplace exposedto organic solvent (toluene, xylene, styrene) and workers at general workplace. During the period from Januaryto December 2010, the survey was conducted against male workers of 168,769 persons with age group 30-59completed medical checkup, dividing workers at organic solvent exposed work place and workers of generalworkplace against which comparisons were carried out about the result of general characteristics, blood test.Whether exposed to organic solvent and exposed period relationship with metabolic syndrome components wereidentified through execution of multiple logistic regression analysis. The prevalence rate of the metabolic syndromeby age was 15.0% for the 30s, 19.8% for the 40s, 22.9% for the 50s. For the whole workers, the prevalence rateof the metabolic syndrome was 17.4% in exposed workplace and 18.4% in general workplace that was higherthan the rate in exposed workplace. Even if age, drinking, smoking, exercise, region and BMI were corrected,the exposure to the organic solvent was the higher the significance of blood pressure and fasting glucose werestatistically and also the longer the period of exposure was, the higher the significance of blood pressure wasstatistically. In this study, the exposure to the organic solvent showed a statistically significant relevance with bloodpressure and fasting glucose among the metabolic syndrome components and the period of exposure showed astatistically significant relevance with blood pressure. Further researches should be conducted by prospective cohortstudy about the organic solvent and the metabolic syndrome components supplementing the defects.

        An elementary school is an important public place for children and it is where they spend most of their days. Ten elementary schools of environmental pollutants were measured in the classroom, playground and school zones (June 19 ~ Nov 1, 2012). Dust measurements of some schools were more indoor air. Measurements of black carbon concentrations were higher overall school zones. Also, in the case of formaldehyde, benzene and some environmental standards were exceeded. In the case of outdoor pollutants not statistically significant, but in some cars and vans that were correlated with pollutants. Thus, strategies and actions are necessary that will protect the health of children in schools from environmental pollutants.

        Beverages can vary in their appropriateness depending on the context of their different uses; therefore, an intention to consume a beverage is likely dependent on the context of its use. This study associated the consumer acceptability of commercial beverage products examined in a previous study (Kim and others, 2013) with its appropriateness under different use contexts. Consumers (n=360) were divided into two conditions: blind and brand. Consumers rated appropriateness for 13 use contexts for each beverage product. The results indicated that the contextual appropriateness were significantly different among the beverage samples and seemed to be positively influenced by the acceptability of beverages. The beverages with higher liking scores were more appropriate in a greater number of contexts, including "when tired", "refreshing", and "rest". However, there were inappropriate contexts (e.g., "while weight watching", "after exercise", "with a meal", and "health care") regardless of degree of acceptability. In the brand condition, some differences in contextual appropriateness were observed when comparing results from the blind condition (e.g., "with a meal", "health care").

        This paper investigates the effect of prolonged high temperature exposure on concentric laminated Al2O3-ZrO2 composites. An ultrafine scale microstructure with a cellular 7 layer concentric lamination with unidirectional alignment was fabricated by a multi-pass extrusion method. Each laminate in the microstructure was 2-3μm thick. An alternate lamina was composed of 75%Al2O3-(25%m-ZrO2) and t-ZrO2 ceramics. The composite was sintered at 1500˚C and subjected to 1450˚C temperature for 24 hours to 72 hours. We investigated the effect of long time high temperature exposure on the generation of residual stress and grain growth and their effect on the overall stability of the composites. The residual stress development and its subsequent effect on the microstructure with the edge cracking behavior mechanism were investigated. The residual stress in the concentric laminated microstructure causes extensive micro cracks in the t-ZrO2 layer, despite the very thin laminate thickness. The material properties like Vickers hardness and fracture toughness were measured and evaluated along with the microstructure of the composites with prolonged high temperature exposure.

        The purpose of this study was to compare the exposure levels to emotional labor, occupational and socio-psychological stress, and fatigue for workers engaged in the fields of beauty business (make-up, skin, nail, and hair). For this purpose, a survey was carried out and a statistical analysis was performed for 813 persons As a result, emotional labor was found to be linked with 3 factors of emotional control, emotional dissonance, and positive emotional expression. The exposure level of emotional control was found to be high in the area of hair care and that of positive emotional expression was high in the area of nail care. Based on evaluation of Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS), the stress were found to be highest among workers engaged in the field of make-up and lowest among those in the field of nail. The exposure level of psychosocial stress was found to be the highest in the area of make-up and the lowest in the area of nail care. The exposure level of fatigue was found to be the highest in the area of make-up and the lowest in the area of nail care, showing a difference in the exposure level of stress by area of beauty business. The study confirmed that there is a difference in the exposure level related to emotional labor, job stress, psychosocial stress, and fatigue by area of beauty business.

        This study was conducted to compare the value of the working environment measurement with the expected exposure value drawn by using a program, thereby going to investigate whether it is available to the risk assessment of domestic workplace. We used the ECETOC TRA program which is one of the exposure predictive models. Four kinds of substances were measured in two workplace which was exposed to organic solvents and one kind of substance was measured in three workplace which was exposed to dusts and then an exposure assessment of chemical risk factors was conducted. The result value of the working environment measurement, solid substance exceeded standard in one site, and it was found that the other solid and liquid substances were within the standard. The value of the exposure assessment program showd the same result; it was higher than the value of the working environment measurement, suggesting that due to its nature, the exposure assessment program is run only on the worst situation. Therefore, it was found that when the exposure assesment program is used, variables should be substituted only after accurately assessing the workplace and it is a good idea to assess the risk beforehand with the exposure assessment program in the case of the workplace which employs no more than 5 people and where it is hard to assess the working environment.

        본 연구는 초음파의 주파수별 노출 시간이 녹조현상을 일으키는 Microcystis sp.의 군체에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 각 조사 지점 내의 녹조 생물은 남조강(Cyanophyceae)인 Microcystis sp.가 전체 조류의 약 99.5%를 차지하였다. 초음파의 노출에 따른 녹조류의 chlorophyll-a 농도를 분석해보면 노출시간이 길어짐에 따라 점차적으로 감소하였으며, 특히 70 kHz의 주파수 영역에서 녹조 생물이 세포분열을 통한 생물량의 증가를 억제하는 데 효과적인 것으로 조사되었다. 초음파에 노출되기 전 Microcystis sp.는 단세포가 점액성 물질에 조밀하게 쌓여 있는 군체의 형태로 관찰되었으나 70 kHz 초음파에 노출된 후 Microcystis sp.의 군체의 결속이 약화되고 세포가 군체에서 떨어져 나가는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 초음파는 동∙식물성 플랑크톤의 형태적 변화와 운동성에 영향을 미치지 않아 다른 수중 미생물에는 부정적인 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 초음파는 Microcystis sp.의 군체와 형태적 변화를 유발하고 세포를 파괴시켜 녹조현상을 일으키는 조류의 생물량을 감소시키는 데 효과적으로 작용할 것으로 사료된다.

        이 연구에서는 여대생들이 짧게 편집된 폭력적 애니메이션에 반복적으로 노 출되었을 때, 폭력에 대한 반응에 어떤 변화가 있는지를 실험연구를 통해 살펴보았다. 이와 함께, 애니메이션 속 폭력 피해자의 성별이 피험자의 성별과 일 치할 경우 폭력에 대한 반응에 차이가 나타나는 지도 분석했다. 이를 위해 일본 애니메이션 14편에서 연구목적에 부합하는 장면을 골라 2분짜리 짧은 영상물로 편 집했다. 여대생 60명이 피험자로 참가했다. 실험은 피험자들이 피해자가 여성인 집 단과 남성인 집단에 30명씩 무작위로 할당돼 편집된 7편의 영상물을 보고 폭력 피 해자 캐릭터에 대한 동정심, 폭력물에 대한 전반적인 감정, 폭력 애니메이션에 나 타난 물리적 폭력과 언어적 폭력에 대한 인지에 응답하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 연 구결과, 여대생들은 폭력에 대한 둔감화와는 반대로 4가지 종속변인 모두에서 폭 력에 대해 더욱 민감해지고 폭력을 더욱 분명하게 인식하는 결과를 보였다. 이러 한 결과는 피험자와 캐릭터 성별의 일치여부와는 무관하게 나타났다. 이에 대한 함의가 함께 논의됐다.

        Oil spills have occurred throughout the years of industrialization and represent a global challenge as they affect vast areas of the ocean. The toxicity of crude oil to aquatic organisms has been extensively investigated, but the potential impacts of crude oil on vertebrate development remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the effects of dispersants used in treating a recent oil spill, as well as that of crude oil, on vertebrates by using the zebrafish (Danio rerio) model species, which has been widely used in empirical studies of both early embryonic development and adult physiology. Chronic exposure to crude oil resulted in marked developmental abnormalities, including pericardial edema, abnormal trunk vessel development, retardation of axonal branching, and abnormal jaw development. Embryonic development was affected more severely by exposure to the oil-dispersant combination than to the oil alone. Thus, the zebrafish in vivo model system suggests that dispersant treatment can have detrimental developmental effects on vertebrates and its potential impact on marine life, as well as humans, should be carefully considered in clean-up efforts at the site of an oil spill.

        본 연구에서는 연료극 또는 공기극에 함유된 불순물인 황화합물의 도입을 차단할 수 있는 GDL을 제조하여, 이를 평가용 단위전지에 체결하여 H2S와 SO2를 연료극과 공기극에 각각 동시에 공급하여 PEMFC의 성능 저하 및 회복에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과 H2S와 SO2의 농도가 증가함에 따라 전지의 성능이 감소하며 특히 10 ppm 이상의 농도에서는 10분 이내에 약 10-15% 정도 성능이 감소하였다. 특히 GDL 표면의 기공이 없는 CN-2 GDL을 체결한 단위전지의 경우 피독에 의한 성능 감소 속도가 더 빠른 것을 확인하였다. 그리고 단위전지 피독 후 황화합물이 혼합되지 않은 순수 가스를 1시간 이상 공급하였을 때 전지의 성능이 GDL의 종류에 따라 90%에서 95% 이상 회복되며 CN-1 GDL의 경우가 가장 회복이 우수하였다.

        Quantitative analyses of naturally occurring methanol were performed for the alcoholic beverages commonly consumed in Jecheon, Chungbuk province, South Korea. The headspace analysis method was optimized for the low and high alcoholic beverages. The external standard method was applied due to the overlapping of 2-propanol and 2-butanol (the internal standard candidates) with target sample matrix peaks. The target samples were selected based on the retail sales amounts of alcoholic beverages in the largest retailer food-mart chain, Jecheon, Chungbuk province, South Korea. There was no sample containing methanol over 0.5 ㎎/㎖, the Korean maximum level of methanol in alcoholic beverages (1.0 ㎎/㎖ for fruit originated liquor etc). The total exposure amount of methanol via alcoholic beverages was estimated based on the daily alcohol consumption of 40 g. The hazard indices calculated by methanol RfD 0.5 ㎎/㎏ bw day (US EPA) and ADI 20 ㎎/㎏ bw day (proposed by Lachenmeier etc.) were 0.301 and 0.008, respectively. As with the hazard index, aggregate exposures below a HI of 1.0 will likely not result in adverse noncancer health effects over a lifetime of exposure. Then the methanol exposure via the alcoholic liquours might not hazard to Jecheon citizen.

        In this study, we configured a system which ranks hazardous chemicals to determine their management priorities based on experts' opinions and the existing CRS (chemical ranking and scoring). Aggregate exposure of food, health functional food, oriental/herbal medicine and cosmetics have been taken into account to determine management priority. In this study, 25 hazardous chemicals were selected, such as cadmium, lead, mercury, and arsenic, etc. These 25 materials were ranked according to their 1) risk (exposure or hazard) indexes, 2) exposure source-based weight, and 3) public interests, which were also formed based on the existing priority ranking system. Cadmium was scored the highest (178.5) and bisphenol A the lowest (56.8). Ten materials -- cadmium, lead, mercury, arsenic, tar, acrylamide, benzopyrene, aluminium, benzene, and PAHs -- scored higher than 100. Eight materials -- aflatoxin, manganese, phthalate, chromium, nitrate/nitrite, ethylcarbamate, formaldehyde, and copper -- recorded scores in the range from 70 to 100. Also evaluated as potential risks were 7 materials; sulfur dioxide, ochratoxin, dioxins, PCBs, fumonisin, methyl mercury, and bisphenol A, and these materials were scored above 50. Then we compared risk index and correlation coefficient of total scores to confirm the validity of the total scores; we analyzed correlation coefficient of parameter and indicator. We discovered that the total score and weight, which has incorporated public interests, were high and statistically significant. In conclusion, the result of this study contributes to strengthening risk assessment and risk management of hazardous chemicals.

        고분자 전해질막 연료전지는 연료극의 연료와 공기극의 공기에 각각 H2S와 SO2이 포함되어 있을 때 그 성능이 심각하게 감소한다. 본 연구는 고분자전해질막 연료전지의 공기극과 연료극에 1 ppm에서 10 ppm의 불순물 가스를 공급하여 전기적 성능측정을 통해 복합적인 황불순물이 단위전지에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 최적의 운전조건에서 불순물가스를 피독하였을 때 SO2와 H2S의 농도가 증가할수록 성능이 급격히 감소하였다(단위전지 온도 65℃, 상대습도 100%). 그리고 황의 흡착은 MEA의 백금 촉매층 표면서 일어나며, 불순물 가스가 MEA에 누적되는 것을 확인하였다. 1, 3, 5, 및 10 ppm 4회의 연속적인 피독 후 연료전지의 성능이 0.71 V에서 0.54 V(76 %)로 감소하였다.

        The objective of the present study was to estimate the health risk level for children exposed to phthalate and identify the pathways including indoor floor dust, surface wipe and hand wipe in elementary-schools and institutes. The samples of indoor place were collected at children's facilities (50 elementary-schools and 46 academies) in summer (Aug ~ Sept, 2008), winter (Dec 2008 ~ Feb, 2009) and Spring (Mar ~ Apr, 2009) periods. Hazard Index (HI) were estimated for the non-carcinogens and the examined phthalate were diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), butylbenzyl phthalate (BBzP). Risk analysis indicates that did not exceed 0.01 (HI) for all subjects in all facilities it's 50th % and 95th % value. For DEHP, DnBP and BBzP their detection rates through multi-pathways were high and their risk based on health risk assessment was also observed to be acceptable.

        대중매체로서 신문은 공중에게 사회에서 일어나는 중요한 현안에 대한 정보 를 전달할 뿐만 아니라, 공중이 건전한 가치와 태도를 형성할 수 있도록 돕는 역할을 한다. 최근 언론의 성범죄 관련 보도 양태를 볼 때, 과연 언론이 이러 한 기능을 제대로 수행하고 있는지 의문이다. 특히 성범죄 보도에 있어 언론의 선 정주의가 도를 넘었다는 비판이 오랫동안 계속되었다. 언론이 성범죄의 선정성과 폭력성을 강조하여 보도할 때, 범죄 보도를 통한 규범 강화, 사회 안정, 치안 강화 등의 순기능은 감소하고 모방 범죄나 과도한 공포감 조성 등 역기능이 증가할 수 있다. 또한 우리나라 음란물 소비는 과거 어느 때에 비해 급격하게 증가한 것이 사실이다. 비록 성인일지라도 과도한 음란물 소비는 성에 대해 잘못된 관념을 유 발하고 성에 관한 현실을 왜곡되게 파악하게 만들 수 있다. 본 연구는 성범죄 보도의 선정성과 음란물 노출이 성 관련 감정, 인지, 행위 의 도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 남자 대학생을 대상으로 실험 연구를 수행하였 다. 연구결과, 음란물 노출이 높은 대학생 집단은 그렇지 않은 집단에 비해 도구적 성 인식과 성 비행 시행의지가 상대적으로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 성범죄 기사의 선정성에 대한 영향은 추가적인 연구가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 왜냐하면 실험적으로 처치된 선정성 고/저 집단의 차이는 나타나지 않았지만, 개별 피험자의 뉴스 기사에 대한 선정성 평가는 성 충동과 유의미한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났 기 때문이다.

        The aim of this study was to calculate the health risks which children were exposed to trace metals through several pathways including air, floor dust, wipe and hand wipes in elementary-schools and academies. The samples were collected at children's facilities (50 elementary-schools and 46 academies) in summer (Aug ~ Sept, 2008), winter (Dec 2008 ~ Feb, 2009) and Spring (Mar ~ Apr, 2009) periods. The lifetime Excess Cancer Risks (ECRs) were estimated for carcinogen trace elements such as As, Cd, and Cr. For carcinogens, the Excess Cancer Risk (ECR) was calculated by considering the process of deciding Cancer Potency Factor (CPF) and Age Dependent Adjust Factor (ADAF) of the data of adults. Hazard Quotients (HQs) were estimated for the non-carcinogens trace metals like Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb. The average ECRs for young children were 1×10-9~1×10-8 (50%th percentile) level in all facilities. Non-carcinogens did not exceed 0.1 for all subjects in all facilities. For trace metals their risk based on health risk assessment was also observed to be acceptable.

        This study was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of exposure to asbestos for ship repair workers in Korea by a systematic review. The number of articles studying asbestos exposure levels from ship repair workplaces was found to be 4. All asbestos concentration reported as either geometric mean and geometric standard deviation or ranges were transformed to arithmetic mean to estimate exposure level. In addition, weighted arithmetic means(WAMs) were calculated by weighing of the different number of samples. The WAM concentrations were 2.746 f/cc during asbestos dismantling work, 0.034 f/cc before asbestos dismantling work and 0.065 f/cc after working respectively. The maximum airborne concentration of asbestos during asbestos removal work was 7.02 f/cc which was 70 times higher than the occupational exposure limit of Korea, 0.1 f/cc. This study recommends that retrospective exposure to asbestos based on various ship types and operations should be assessed.
