        This study was carried out to evaluate the characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and aldehydes emission as a function of airtight time in new apartment. Sampling was undertaken at 34 new apartments located in 4 different cities of Korea from February to November 2005. The measurement data were collected every one hour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. toward increasing airtight time in a day. The concentrations of VOCs and aldehydes were analysed by GC/MS and HPLC method, respectively. These methods showed good sensitivity, linearity, and repeatability. In this study, the most abundant compounds at new apartments appeared to be toluene, m,p-xylene, formaldehyde and acetone. Moreover, the concentration variations at a closed rooms progressively increased by airtight time of 5 hours. Airtight time of new apartment was a most important and affective factor which influenced concentration change.

        This experiment was carried out to figure out the CO2 biomass and the growth response of Chinese cabbage and radish grown under the condition of high temperature and high CO2 concentration to provide the information for the coming climatic change. Chinese cabbage and radish were cultivated in spring and autumn seasons under 4 treatments, 'ambient temp.+ambient CO2 conc.', 'ambient temp.+elevated CO2 conc.', 'elevated temp.+ ambient CO2 conc.', and 'elevated temp. +elevated CO2 conc.'. The 'elevated temp,' plot was maintained at 5 higher than 'ambient temp. (outside temperature)'and the 'elevated CO2 cone.' plot was done in 650 ppm CO2. The growth of spring-sown Chinese cabbage was worse than autumn-sown one, and was affected more by high temperature than high CO2. concentration. The CO2 biomass of Chinese cabbage was lower as 25.1-39.1 g/plant in spring-sown one than 54.8-63.4 g/plant of autumn-sown one. Daily CO22 fixation ability was not significantly different between spring- and autumn-sown Chinese cabbage as 1.9-2.9, 2.7-3.1 kg/10a/day, respectively. The CO2 biomass of radish were 87.4-104.6 /plant in spring-sown one and 51.3~76.4 g/plant in autumn-sown one. Daily CO2 fixation ability of radish were 6.2-10.1 kg/10a/day in spring-sown one and 4.6-6.9 kg/10a/day in autumn-sown one.

        토양에 비료 형태로 투여한 셀레늄 농도와 처리기간이 마늘의 생육에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 본 실험을 수행하였다. 셀레늄의 농도가 높고 처리기간이 길수록 생체중은 대조구에 비하여 감소하였다. 셀레늄의 처리농도가 높고 처리기간이 길수록 3주 후 셀레늄의 함량은 구보다는 엽초에 많이 축적되었다 그러나 처리 6주 후에는 구〉엽초〉뿌리 순으로 셀레늄의 함량이 높았다. 셀레늄 처리 후 토양에 잔류하고 있는 셀레늄의 함량은 대조구와 차이가 없었다.

        This study was undertaken to determine the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the indoor air between houses of atopy, asthma patients and new houses. Total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) in the indoor and outdoor air of normal houses were measured as 92.6 and 72.5 ㎍/㎥, respectively. TVOCs in the indoor and outdoor air of atopy patient's houses were 152 and 42.1 ㎍/㎥. TVOCs in the indoor and outdoor air of asthma patient's houses was 165 and 50.1 ㎍/㎥. TVOCs in the indoor and outdoor air of new houses was 158 and 78.3 ㎍/㎥. It was found that the concentrations of VOCs were higher in the indoor air of atopy, asthma patient's and new houses than the normal houses. This suggests that the concentration of VOCs can influence atopy and asthma.

        Aliphatic amine compounds have very low detectable threshold value concentrations, and especially trimethyl amine is one of the main odor-active compounds in atmospheric environment. Concentration of a large amount (10~100 L) of air sample was needed to detect trace amounts of amine compounds by GC/FTD. Amine compounds in ambient air were absorbed in sulfuric acid solution by using impingers and sampling pump. Some amount of the absorption solution was injected in bubbling bottle which a concentration tube was connected with, and that amine gas which was isolated from bubbling bottle was trapped in a concentration tube dipped in liquid argon under a constant helium flow. A concentration tube was disjoined from the bubbling bottle and was connected to injection port of gas chromatograph. Amine compounds trapped in a concentration tube was introduced into the packed column by thermal desorption after flow rate of carrier gas and detector signal had been stabilized enough. Sampling volume of ambient air was different from place to place in the range of 10~100 L, and flow rate through impingers was 5 L/min. Atmospheric concentrations of trimethyl amine were below 16.0 ppbv in the boundary of business establishment and below 420.0 ppbv at the gas releasing port of business establishment in the industrial area.

        Effects of three packing materials and exposure time on the mortality of Plodia interpunctella and Tribolium castaneum were studied using CO₂-modified atmosphere control. Materials used were triple layered craft paper (KKK), triple layered craft paper with one laminate coating layer (KLK), and triple layered craft paper with one HD film coating layer (KHK). In the test balls (ø 1.2 m) containing 85% CO₂-modified atmosphere, concentration of CO₂ in small packing envelopes (9.8×9.8 ㎝) made of the materials after one day was higher in KKK (26.67±0.58%) than KLK (23.33±0.58%) or KHK (20.67±0.58%). Both P. interpunctella and T. castaneum showed higher mortality in KKK than in either KLK or KHK. Similar results were obtained by larger space (9×4×3 m) and packing volume (20 ㎏) studies. The effect of the packing materials was clearer on T. castaneum more tolerant to CO₂ than P. interpunctella. Regression of the insect mortality on cumulative concentration time (∫<SUP>t</SUP>₀c × tdc ≈ ∑concentration × time) was highly significant. Control of P. interpunctella and T. castaneum by CO₂-modified atmosphere were discussed in relation to packing materials, cumulative concentration time of CO₂ and food products.

        This study was performed to investigate indoor air quality and to characterize the concentration of particulate matters followed by human activities in preschool classrooms. Concentrations of PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 were measured every 5-minute intervals by means of a dust monitor adopting the principle of light scattering. Two mini-volume air samplers were used further to measure the I/O concentration ratio of PM10 and to calibrate the dust monitor since the photometric method often exaggerates the mass of fine particles. The calibration factor in the study environment was determined as 0.64. In the preschool classrooms, the ranges of average indoor PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 concentrations were 51.5~117.6, 21.5~98.4, and 16.2~84.5 ㎍/ ㎥, respectively, while that of I/O concentration ratio was 0.8~1.3. Based on correlation analysis among various environmental parameters, PM1 was slightly correlated with humidity (r=0.416, p<0.01). However, outdoor PM10 was strongly related with indoor PM2.5 (r=0.95, p<0.01), with PM1 (r=0.94, p<0.01), and with PM10 (r=0.84, p<0.01). The trend of PM2.5 and PM1 concentrations appeared to be very similar unlike the case of PM10. Since the elevated coarse particle concentration (2.5㎛<dp<10㎛) and the average PM2.5/PM10 ratio were highly dependent on classroom activities, the parameter of PM2.5/PM10 ratio was intensively studied with 7 different indoor activities in the preschool classrooms.

        본 실험은 배양액의 농도가 무화과의 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 수행하였다. 1차 실험에서 배양액의 농도에 따른 무화과 생육은 1/2농도 처리구에서 초장, 엽수, 경경, 착과수가 양호했으며, 엽장과 엽폭은 1/2농도구를 제외한 다른 처리간에는 차이가 없었다. 배양액의 농도에 따른 과식의 평균과중은 토양재배의 38.4g보다 수경재배에서 50.9g으로 높게 나타났고, 과장, 과경, 당도는 처리간의 차이가 없었다. 수확량은 토양재배보다 수경재배에서 월등하게 많았으며, 배양액 1/2농도보다 2/2와 3/2농도에서 높게 나타났다. 무화과의 수경재배에서 저농도에서 양호한 생육을 나타내었으며, 수량은 높은 농도에서 양호하였다. 본 실험의 결과는 무화과의 수량 및 품질증대에 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

        Vehicle drivers are subject to be exposed to high concentrations of airborne pollutants emitted from vehicles on roads. To investigate the indoor air quality of vehicles on roads, black carbon (BC) was measured inside a passenger car commuting between the residential area in southern Seoul and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in northern Seoul using a portable aethalometer. When the vehicular windows were closed, the ventilation mode was set to fresh air mode (or circulation mode) for a total of thirteen runs made during May 2005. When the windows were open, the analysis was made with the system turned off (for twelve runs in October 2005). The BC concentration depended on such parameters as spatial location, time of day, and ventilation mode. The average BC concentration measured on non-express ways was higher than those measured on express ways, inside KIST, and nearby the residential area for most runs. On circulation mode, the average BC concentration was 5.9±1.7 ㎍/㎥ in the afternoon or evening, which was similar to a 24-hr average BC concentration for ambient air at 200 m apart from a road in Seoul. In the case of fresh air mode, the average BC concentrations measured in the morning rush hour, in the afternoon or evening, and after midnight were 22.8±3.4, 15.9±7.7, 3.7 ㎍/㎥, respectively. The average BC concentrations measured with the vehicular window open were 31.9±9.2, 19.4±5.9 ㎍/㎥, respectively in the morning rush hour and in the afternoon or evening. These measured values were higher than those measured with the windows closed. The average BC concentrations inside a passenger car with a fresh mode operation or open-window driving were significantly higher than a 24-hr average BC concentration measured at 200 m apart from a road in Seoul.

        수출 유망작목인 사철딸기의 페치카 품종을 이용하여 코랭지(해발 약 800m)의 여름 생산(6-9월) 가능성과 고설벤취식 양액재배의 적합한 양액관리 농도를 검토한 결과가 아래와 같다. 고랭지한천)에서는 평지(분산)보다 하우스내 상온이 4℃ 정도 낮았고 야간온도가 1℃ 정도 낮았다. 근권온도는 고랭지(최고 25.5℃, 최저 19℃)가 평지보다 평균 3℃ 정도 낮았다. 초기생육(엽수, 엽장, 엽폭, 생체중 등)은 고랭지에서 평지보다 좋았으며 기형과 발생율도 낮았다. 주당과 중은 고랭지에서 평지에 비해 많았으며 특히 수출규격품 과실(8~15g)중도 높았다. 총수량은 고랭지에서 2,967kg/10a로 평지에 비해 52%증수하였으며 과실의 가용성 고형물과 유기산 함량이 높았고 Citric acid가 95% 이상이었다. 양액농도 관리에서는 S(EC 0.75dS m-1)에서 생체중 생육이 가장 좋았으며 양액농도가 증가할수록 억제되는 경향이었다. 특히 5/3S(EC 1.25dS m-1)에서는 뿌리의 갈변이 심하고 근활력이 낮았다. 총수량은 S(EC 0.75dS m-1)에서 2,064kg/10a로 가장 많았으며 양액농도와 수량간의 추세선은 y=-808×2+967x+1703(R2=0.7994, 꼭지점 =3/5S)였다. 이상의 결과에서 페치카의 여름재배에 알맞은 양액농도(EC)는 3/5S이고, 1.0dS m-1 이상에서는 과실의 당도는 높아지나 기형과의 발생이 많으므로 낮은 농도로 관리하는 것이 유리한 것으로 판단되었다.
