        This study aimed to investigate the growth and phenol content changes of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) under five different light intensities and photoperiods, maintaining the same Daily Light Integral (DLI) conditions in a plant factory. Basil seeds were sown on a rockwool medium for four weeks and then transplanted. To maintain a DLI 17mol·m-2·d-1, light intensity and photoperiod were set at 16h-295, 18h-260, 20h-235, 22h-215, and 24h-200μ mol·m-2·s-1 and cultivated for four weeks. The harvested results showed that basil plant height, number of lateral branches, and leaf number tended to decrease from the 16h-295 treatment to the 24h-200 treatment. Shoot fresh weight, dry weight, leaf area, leaf width, and leaf length were significantly higher in the 18 h-260 treatment. The total phenolic contents in the 18h-260 treatment was significantly higher by 51.3%, 172.7%, 111%, and 119.7% compared to the 16h-295, 20h-235, 22h-215, and 24h-200 treatments, respectively. Therefore, it is anticipated that cultivating basil under the condition of 18h-260 treatment could yield enhanced growth quality and an increase in total phenolic contents.

        본 연구는 바질 오일을 첨가한 모질 개선 제형제를 제조 후 손상된 모발에 도포하여 손상 모발 의 개선 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 실험원료로 바질 오일 함량을 0 g, 3 g 6 g, 9 g 으로 다르게 하여 펌 베이스제에 첨가하여 제형제를 제조하였다. 제조한 제형제로 8레벨의 탈색한 시료 모발에 도포하였다. 각 시료와 손상모를 측정하여 비교 분석하였다. 측정방법은 모질 개선 효과를 알기 위해 인장강도, 메틸렌블 루를 이용한 흡광도, 광택을 측정하였다. 연구결과의 신뢰성을 위해 통계분석을 하였다. 연구결과로 인장강 도 측정결과는 바질 오일을 첨가하여 도포 한 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 인장강도가 증가함을 알 수 있었 다. 메틸렌블루를 이용한 흡광도 분석결과 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 흡광도가 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 광 택 측정결과는 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 광택이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 결론은 바질 오일이 손상된 모발 에 개선 효과가 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 차후 다양한 오일의 종류와 연구방법으로의 연구가 필요하다.

        An assessment was made of the toxicity of basil, Ocimum basilicum, essential oil, 11 basil oil constituents, seven structurally related compounds and another 22 previously known basil oil constituents and the control efficacy of four experimental spray formulations containing the oil (1, 2, 3 and 4% sprays) to adult American house dust mites, Dermatophagoides farinae. Results were compared with those of two conventional acaricides benzyl benzoate and N,N-diethyl-3- methylbenzamide (deet). The active principles were determined to be citral, α -terpineol and linalool. Citral (24 h LC50, 1.13 μg/cm2) and menthol (1.69 μg/cm2) were the most toxic compounds, followed by methyl eugenol (5.78 μg/cm2). The toxicity of these compounds was more toxic than that of benzylbenzoate(LC50, 8.41 μg/cm2) and deet (37.67 μg/cm2). These compounds were consistently more toxic in closed versus open containers, indicating that their mode of delivery was largely a result of vapour action. Basil applied as 3 and 4% experimental sprays provided 97 and 100% mortality against the mites respectively, whereas permethrin (cis:trans, 25:75) 2.5 g/l spray treatment resulted in 17% mortality. Reasonable mite control in indoor environments can be achieved by spray formulations containing the basil oil (3 and 4% sprays) as potential contact-action fumigants.

        This study investigated the quality characteristics of demi-glace sauce that is used widely in western cuisine depending on adding volume of basil which has a specific aroma, taste and some functional ability. Analysis of color differences of demi-glace sauce was showed that a-value of demi-glace sauce decreased with adding basil, whereas viscosity of the demi-glace sauce was decreased. There were no significant differences in color, aroma, taste, appearance, viscosity, feel in mouse and general acceptability with sex and age of subjects. Demi-glace sauce with 2% basil showed best score in sensory evaluation. From theabove results, our data suggest that addition of 2% basil to demi-glace sauce is recommend for commercial use.

        The purpose of study was to determine the organoleptic characteristics of homemade basil-pasta made in various compounding ratio according to central composite design. The optimum mixing condition for basil-pasta was optimized by response surface methodology. The texture, including color, flavor, elasticity and overall quality, was measured as sensory evaluation. The optimum mixing rates of durum wheat semolina, basil and egg were 73.97g, 5.95g and 36.17g for color, 53.14g, 4.52g and 35.85g for flavor, 48.75g, 2.95g and 36.85g for elasticity. The organoleptic overall quality of basil-pasta showed the maximum score in the mixing condition of 55.52 g durum wheat semolina, 4.55g basil paste and 35.51g egg.

        본 실험은 바실의 양액재배시 기능성 원소 selenium(Se)을 처리하였을 때 basil의 저장중 품질 변화를 조사하기 위하여 수행되었다. European Vegetable R ' B center에서 개발한 허브 배양액 1배액을 사용하여 담액 순환식으로 재배하였으며, Se을 sodium selenate(Na2Se O4)의 형태로 수확 3주전에 2, 4mg. L-1를 양액 내 처리하였다. 10℃에서 40um ceramic film로 PET 상자를 사용하여 MA저장을 15일간 하였다. 바실의 수경재배시 기능성 물질의 첨가가 저장중 품질 변화에 미치는 영향은 다음과 같다. Se 함량은 양액내 처리 농도에 따라 증가하였고 저장 후에도 같은 경향을 나타내었다. 포장재에 따른 휘발량의 차이는 크지않았다. 엽록소와 정유함량은 Se처리에 의해 증가되었다. 정유 함량은 Na2Se O4.4mg. L-1 처리가 저장후 감소율이 가장 적었다. Se 함량은 2mg. L-1처리시 저장전 함량이 112.73ug. g-1DM이었고 저장중 감소량은 50%정도였다. 저장중 품질유지와 소비자가 안전하게 Se를 섭취할 수 있는 적정 농도는 2mg. L-1이며, 40um ceramic film을 이용한 MA저장이 효과적이었다. 이상에서 바실의 양액재배시 Se처리는 작물의 품질 증진 및 저장중 품질 유지에 효과가 인정되었다. 또 Se 휘발에 의한 정유성분의 변화는 나타나지 않았다. 또 Se 휘발에 의한 정유성분의 변화는 나타나지 않았다.

        This study evaluated the growth, physiological responses and productivity based on the intercropping ratio of cherry tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) with basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). on the rooftops to determine out the efficient ratio in urban agriculture. From April to September 2019, an experiment was conducted on the rooftop of Konkuk University Glocal Campus. Cherry tomato and basil were selected as companion plants for eco-friendly urban agriculture on the rooftops. Each plot was created with a width of 100 cm, length of 100 cm, and height of 25 cm. After installing drainage and waterproof layers from bottom to top, substrate was laid out with a height of 20 cm. Intercropping ratio was consisted of a single tomato plant (TC), 2:1 tomato to basil (T2B1), 1:1 tomato to basil (T1B1), 1:2 tomato to basil 2 (T1B2), and a single basil plant (BC), were conducted using a randomized complete plot design with five treatments and three replication (a total 15 plots). Measurements were divided into growth, physiological responses, and productivity parameters, and detailed items were investigated and analyzed by classifying them into plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, root length, root collar caliper, chlorophyll contents, fresh weight, dry weight, number of fruit, fruit caliper, fruit weight, and sugar content. Comparative analyses of cherry tomato with basil plants by intercropping ratio, growth, physiological, and productivity responses are determined to be efficient when the ratio of cherry tomato to basil ratio is 2:1 or 1:1.

        Background : Basil is well known for its use in cooking, however, the herb is also noted for its value in traditional medicine. Basil is a digestive stimulant with antimicrobial, antibacterial, anticonvulsant and anticarcinogenic properties. Basil contains high levels of phenolic acids that contribute to its strong antioxidant capacity and the substantial concentrations of rosmarinic acid, in particular, have been associated with the herb’s medicinal qualities. Rosmarinic acid is noted in the literature to be the most prevalent basil phenolic but other caffeic acid derivatives, such as chicoric acid, are also found in high concentrations. But, no previous study about other phenolic compounds accumulation except previously mentioned. Thus, the aim of this study is to explain that basil accumulates other phenolic compounds except previously mentioned. Methods and Results : 6 basil cultivars, ‘Holy’, ‘Lemon’, ‘Cinnamon’, ‘Dark Opal’, ‘Bush’ and ‘Genovese’, were grown at experimental field of Chungnam National University. These plants leaves were freeze-dried at -80℃ for 72 h and then ground into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle. 100 ㎎ of the sample was weighed into 15 ㎖ tube and 2 ㎖ of 80% (v/v) methanol was added. Next, the tube containing the powder was allowed to be sonicated for 1h at 35℃, and then centrifugation was performed at 12,000 rpm for 10 min. The supernatant was filtered with a 0.45 ㎛ PTFE syringe filter and analyzed by a Futecs model NS-4000 HPLC apparatus. 12 phenolic compounds were identified and quantitated in the different cultivar leaves of basil through comparison of retention time, spike tests and external standard calibration curves using HPLC. Gallic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, catechin hydrate, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, benzoic acid, rutin, trans-cinnamic acid, quercetin, kaempferol were identified. Among 6 basil cultivars, ‘Dark Opal’ show the highest accumulation of phenolic compounds, particular benzoic acid (6.32 ㎎/g dry weight), rutin (1.13 ㎎/g dry weight) and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (0.4 ㎎/g dry weight) are higher than other cultivars. Conclusion : The results presented herein provide information about variation of phenolic compounds in 6 basil cultivars, ‘Holy’, ‘Lemon’, ‘Cinnamon’, ‘Dark Opal’, ‘Bush’ and ‘Genovese’.

        바질은 세계적으로 가장 많이 쓰이는 허브이자 최근 우리나라에서도 생산과 소비량이 급증하고 있는 가운데, 저온저장 유통시 저온장해로 인한 상품성 저하가 농가의 수익을 저해하는 주요 원인이 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 Basil(Ocimum basilicum L.)을 수확하여 4℃에 12시간동안 저온저장하기 전에, 12℃에 각각 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 및 24시간 동안 예냉 처리하였다. 예냉과 냉장저장 처리 후 항산화효소인 APX (Ascorbate peroxidase), SOD(Superoxide dimutase) 및 CAT (Catalase peroxidase)의 활성을 조사한 결과는 아래와 같다. 수확된 잎이 12℃ 예냉 처리 없이 4℃ 저온에 12시간 저장되었을 때 APX 활성은 112μmol/min/mg protein로 수확 직후의 APX 활성도인 186 μmol/min/mg protein의 40% (P < 0.05) 수준이었다. APX 활성은 12℃에 16시간 예냉 처리된 잎에서 가장 높은 수준인 187μmol/min/mg protein을 보였다. 예냉 처리 기간이 16시간 보다 많은 24시간을 처리 한 경우 APX 활성은 낮아지는 것으로 나타나 적정 예냉 기간은 16시간 보다 길지 않아야 한다고 고찰된다. 반면, SOD(Superoxide dimutase)와 CAT (Catalase peroxidase) 활성은 모든 예냉 처리에 따른 유의차를 보이지 않았다. 본 실험에서 얻은 데이터들을 종합해 볼 때 Basil의 수확 후 예냉 처리는 반드시 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있고, APX 효소 활성도가 SOD와 CAT 효소 활성도 보다 Basil의 저온 스트레스로 인한 생리적 반응의 좋은 지표인 것으로 보인다.
