        본 연구는 기상청에서 운용 중인 영국 the United Kingdom Earth System Model (UKESM)을 리눅스 클러스터 에 설치하여 과거 28년 기간에 대해 적분을 수행하고, 추가적인 수치 실험을 수행하여 얻은 결과와 비교한다. 설치한 UKESM은 저해상도 버전이지만, 대류권 대기 화학-에어로졸 과정과 성층권 오존 화학 과정을 동시에 모의하는 United Kingdom Chemistry and Aerosol (UKCA) 모듈을 포함하고 있는 최신 버전이다. 본 연구에 사용된 UKCA가 포함된 UKESM (UKESM-UKCA)은 전체 대기에서의 화학, 에어로졸, 구름, 복사 과정이 연동된 모델이다. CMIP5 기존 배출 량 자료를 사용하는 UKESM 기준 적분 수치 모의와 함께, 동아시아 지역 이산화황(SO2) 배출이 기상장에 미치는 영향 을 평가하기 위하여 CMIP5 SO2 배출량 대신 최신의 REAS 배출자료로 교체한 실험 적분 수치 모의를 수행하였다. 두 수치 모의의 기간은 모두 1982년 1월 1일부터 2009년 12월 31일까지 총 28년이며, 모델 결과는 동아시아 지역 에 어로졸 광학 두께, 2-m 온도, 강수 강도의 시간 평균값과 시간 변화 경향의 공간 분포를 분석하고 관측자료와 비교하 였다. 모델에서 얻어진 온도와 강수 강도의 공간 분포 패턴은 관측자료와 전반적으로 유사하였다. 또한 UKESM에서 모의된 오존 농도와 오존전량의 공간 분포도 위성 관측 자료와 분포 패턴이 일치하였다. 두 UKESM 실험 적분 모의 결과로 얻어진 온도와 강수 강도의 선형 변화 경향의 비교를 통해, 동아시아 지역 SO2 지면 배출은 서태평양과 중국 북부지역에 대한 온도와 강수량의 변화 경향에 중요한 요인임을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 슈퍼컴퓨터에서만 운용되던 UKESM이 리눅스 클러스터 컴퓨팅 환경에도 설치되어 운용이 가능하다는 점을 제시한다. 대기 환경 및 탄소 순환을 연구하는 다양한 분야의 연구자들에게도 대기-해양-지면-해빙이 상호작용하는 UKESM와 같은 지구시스템모델이 활용될 가능성과 접근성이 높아졌다.

        Fly ash consists of various metal oxides which can remove SO2 gas by the catalyst effect. When fly ash is added in the preparation process of pitch-based activated carbon, the pitch particles aggregate and fly ash is embedded in the activated carbon. To increase SO2 gas removal performance, activated carbon was prepared by surface-treated fly ash and petroleum-based pitch. Carboxyl groups were introduced into the fly ash by malic acid treatment. The introduced carboxyl groups acted as an activation agent to create micropore around the fly ash, and created micropores were exposed to the fly ash outside of the activated carbon. The exposed fly ash increased removal amount of SO2 gas by a catalytic effect of the metal oxides. The SO2 gas removal performance improved by 34% because of the catalyst effect of the exposed fly ash and improvement in the micropore structure in the activated carbon.

        A membrane contactor technique is proposed to selectively remove the SO2 gas from the ship exhaust gas. Membrane contactor system operates with two independent streams of liquid and gaseous phase, with a large contact area between the streams, resulting in high mass transfer coefficient values. In this study, hydrophobic polypropylene substrate was used to greatly minimize the wetting of the membranes. The performance of three absorbents -distilled water, NaOH, and Na2SO3 aqueous solution- was investigated in terms of SO2 removal efficiency within a specific range of different parameters (gas flow rate, absorbent molarities, liquid flow rate, L/G ratio). Finally, optimum operating parameters for a high SO2 removal efficiency were suggested; and the overall mass transfer coefficient and HTU values were examined.

        To remove SO2 from flue gas, a thin film nanocomposite (TFN) hollow fiber membrane was decorated with Nafion/TiO2 nanoparticles. Morphological and structural analyses of the TFN membranes were performed using FTIR, SEM, EDX, TEM, and AFM. The gas permeation experiments were performed with pure gases and a mixed gas within a pressure range of 1-3 bar and feed gas flow rate of 0.03-0.15 L/min. The obtained experimental results suggest that the addition of Nf/TiO2 nanoparticles improved the membrane performance by introducing sulfonate and hydroxyl functional groups to the membrane, and thus increased SO2 permeability and selectivity. The SO2 permeability was found to be 411-1671 GPU, while the ideal selectivities achieved for SO2/N2 and SO2/CO2 were 2928 and 72, respectively. Overall, an SO2 removal efficiency of 93% was achieved by using the Nf/TiO2 incorporated TFN membrane.

        서울특별시 용산구의 측정망에서 2004년부터 2013년간 관측한 대기질 자료를 중심으로 SO2의 환경거동을 시간적 기준으로 다양한 관점에서 분석하였다. 이와 동시에 관측한 기타 대기오염물질들(PM2.5, PM10, TSP, CH4, CO, NO, NO2, NOx, O3, THC, NMHC)의 농도자료와 기상자료들과의 관계를 해석하는 방식으로 SO2의 거동을 조사하였다. 10년간 측정한 용산구 지역에서 측정한 SO2의 연간 평균농도는 대기환경기준치인 20nmole mole-1보다 5배 정도 낮은 4.36-5.86(최저-최고) nmole mole-1 수준으로 나타났다. 이는 연간 평균농도가 관리기준치를 초과하는 성분들과 뚜렷하게 대조적인 양상을 보였다. 여러 가지 통계적 기법을 적용하여 SO2의 배출량에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하였다. 그리고 용산구에서 측정한 SO2와 기타대기오염물질, 기상자료들의 경향성을 비교해보았다. SO2은 온도 및 기타물질들에 대한 상관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 본 연구의 결과에 의하면, SO2은 다른 대기오염물질들에 비해 상대적으로 관리가 잘 이루어지고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

        절화장미의 수송 중에 문제가 되고 있는 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생을 억제하기 위해 SO2가 발생하는 sodium metabisulfite(SMS) 2.5g/m3, 5.0g/m3, 7.5g/m3을 저장온도(상온: 24-28οC, 저온: 9- 12οC, 변온: 저온저장하면서 하루 2시간씩 상온에 노출)와 포장방법 (폴리에틸렌 비닐로 포장한 박스, 폴리에틸렌 비닐을 포장하지 않은 박스) 달리하여 상자의 상단부에 처리하였다. 저장온도에 의한 잿빛 곰팡이병의 발생률은 상온에서 가장 높았고, 변온, 저온 순으로 낮 아졌다. 수출용 상자를 밀폐하였을 때 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생률이 높았 고 발현시기도 1-2일 빨랐다. SMS의 처리량이 많을수록 상자 내 부의 SO2 농도는 높게 나타났으며, 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생률이 감소하 였다. 특히 7.5g/m3 SMS 처리시 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생은 무처리에 비해 20% 정도가 억제되었다. SMS 처리는 포장방법별, 온도별 처리 모두에서 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생을 억제하였으며 특히, 상온과 변 온에서 포장상자를 밀폐한 처리구에서 효과가 높았다. 이는 수송 중 온도 변화가 심한 하절기나 수송 중 컨테이너 중앙에서 공기의 이 동이 원활하지 않은 포장상자의 잿빛곰팡이병 발생억제에 효과가 높 을 것으로 사료된다.

        본 연구에서는 혼합기체 중의 SO2 제거를 위하여 폴리이서이미드 복합 중공사막을 이용하였으며, 지지체로 사용한 중공사막은 건-습식 상전이 법으로 제조하였다. PEBAX1657(R)과 PEG를 혼합하여 제조한 용액을 지지체 표면에 코팅하여 복합막을 제조하였다. 중공사 복합막의 기체투과 특성을 확인하기 위하여 모듈을 제작하였고, 온도와 압력변화에 따른 SO2, CO2, N2 단일 기체투과를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 운전조건에 따라서 SO2 투과도는 220~1220 GPU를 나타내었으며, SO2/N2 선택도는 100~506을 나타내었다. 그리고 혼합기체 분리거동을 관찰하기 위하여 SO2, CO2, N2로 구성된 혼합가스를 이용하여 온도, 압력, 잔류부 유량을 변화시키면서 투과기체의 유량과 각 성분의 농도변화를 측정하였다. 그 결과, 압력과 온도가 증가할수록 SO2 제거효율이 높아지는 경향을 나타내었다.

        This study was carried out to observe the impacts of a mouse's inhalation of toxic gas SO2 generated from combustion on its organs by different concentrations. As for research methods: First, after concentrations of SO2 generation from combustion had been set to three: low (10.4 ppm), middle (24.9 ppm) and high (122 ppm) through Gas Toxicity Testing Method (KS F 2271) and SO2 combustion gas was exposed to eight mice in each concentration. Five mice that were able to move based on LD50, a criterion, which sets the down time of a mouse's average behaviors to over 9 minutes, were randomly selected in each concentration, and they were set up as the subjects of the study on toxicity bio-markers. Second, tissues were taken from heart, liver, lungs, spleen and the thymus gland of the mice selected in each concentration and a pathological examination of them was carried out. As a result, microvascular congestion appeared in the heart, and cell necrosis, cortex congestion and tubule medulla congestion, etc. in each concentration were observed in addition to vascular congestion in liver, lungs, spleen and the thymus gland. Also, it was found that the higher the concentrations of SO2 exposure is, the greater, the changes in the organs get. Through this study, SO2 of various toxic gases generated from fire turned out to affect the tissues of each organ of a mouse, it is expected that the toxic gases may greatly affect human body in case of actual fire, and this study is evaluated as having a significance as a basic data on inhalation toxicity assessment of toxic substances generated in combustion.

        Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) performance degrade when sulfur dioxide is present in the fuel hydrogen gas, this is referred as SO2 poisoning. This paper reveals SO2 poisoning on PEMFC cathode part by measuring electrical performance of single cell under 1 ppm and 5 ppm on SO2 gas operating. The security of SO2 poisoning depended on SO2 concentration under the best operating conditions(65℃ of cell temperature and 100% of relative humidity between anode and cathode). SO2 adsorption occured on the surface of catalyst layer on membrane electrode assembly (MEA), In addition, MEA poisoning by SO2 was cumulative but reversible. After poisoning within 5 ppm SO2 for 1hr, the electrical performance of PEMFC was found to recover up to about 93% by cyclic voltametry scan.

        SO2 and NO gases that come from the flue gases of most of all industrial combustion processes are harmful to everything include person and industrial facilities. For the simplification of the environmental clean-up processes, we studied the decomposition process by microwave. The microwave can destroy molecules into elementary atoms and offers energy to the atoms to react with carbons. Since the microwave is not absorbed into quartz tube and metallic chamber, the air pollution gases can be removed with much lower energy than in the case of conventional methods. We studied the decomposition of SO2 and NO gases on the carbon beds by microwave. In the microwave field, the gases can be decomposed to form other compounds, such as elementary sulfur, nitrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. It was found that CO gas is formed at higher temperature than is CO2 gas, so it needs to control the bed temperature depend on products that we want to get.

        여러가지 고분자막을 이용하여 N2-SO2 혼합기체를 분리하는 데 있어서 압력, 온도 등을 조작변수로 하여 투과계수와 분리인자를 계산하고 이에 따른 기체투과 특성을 규명하고 분리성능을 측정하였다. 실험한 압력의 범위는 0.1~1.0 MPa이었으며, 온도범위는 283~303 K이었다. 압력이 커질수록 투과계수와 분리인자가 증가하였으나, 온도증가에 따라 투과계수와 분리인자는 감소하였다. 본 실험에서 사용된 막 중 Film-Tech사의 FT-30이 N2-SO2 혼합기체의 분리능력이 가장 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다.

        Manufacturing and technology industries produce large amounts of air pollutants. Ulsan Metropolitan City, South Korea, is well-known for its large industrial complexes; in particular, the concentration of SO2 here is the highest in the country. We assessed SO2 monitoring sites based on conditional and joint entropy, because this is a common method for determining an optimal air monitoring network. Monthly SO2 concentrations from 12 air monitoring sites were collected, and the distribution of spatial locations was determined by kriging. Mean absolute error, Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), bias and correlation coefficients were employed to evaluate the considered algorithms. An optimal air monitoring network for Ulsan was suggested based on the improvement of RMSE.

        Zeolite 4A was synthesized by fusion method from coal fly ash discharged at the thermal power plants. The synthesized zeolite(FAZ) was characterized through particle size analyzer, XRD, XRF and SEM. N2 adsorption-desorption measurement was used to examine surface and pore structures. The adsorption experiments were carried out under dynamic conditions of trace SO2 in N2 to investigate SO2 adsorption capacity of FAZ. The experiments were conducted to characterize the breakthrough characteristics of SO2 in a fixed bed under different operating conditions including temperature(50-125℃), concentration of SO2(3000-10000 ppm) and FAZ with 4 kinds of commercial zeolite. The adsorption capacity of FAZ was 53.84 mgSO2/g adsorbent, larger than that of the same type commercial zeolite(WK4A).

        Aircraft Measurements of gaseous pollutants(SO2, NOx and O3) in the Yellow Sea area, were carried out on 1997-2007. Main measurement site in 124°-127°E, 35°-37°N (in the Yellow Sea), have been done along the paths classified vertically and zonally. To understand how the air stream affects Long-range transboundary pollutants in Northease Asia (LTP), the tracks of pollutants in northeast Asia have been analyzed by dividing into 6 different regions(regions I-V and L). Compared with Korea's local sources and western north Pacific influenced by the Yellow Sea, when the air stream from region Ⅱ is dominant, the SO2 concentrations are 3-6times higher. In region Ⅱ and Ⅲ, SO2 concentrations are represented highest at 25.0 and 14.7 ppb, respectively. However, in other regions, SO2 concentration was recorderd the highest at 1.1-3.8 ppb, which is 7-15% higher then the highest one over the region Ⅱ and Ⅲ. During 1997-2007, the mean amount of incoming pollutants is 0.162 ton/km·hr exceeding about 5-times mean amount of outgoing pollutants over the West Sea. During the observed period, the amount of incoming and outgoing SO2 over the Yellow Sea is the highest in winter, at 0.224 ton/(km·hr) and 0.120 ton/(km·hr), respectively.

        Development of an artificial neural network model was presented to predict the daily maximum SO2 concentration in the urban-industrial area of Ulsan. The network model was trained during April through September for 2000-2005 using SO2 potential parameters estimated from meteorological and air quality data which are closely related to daily maximum SO2 concentrations. Meteorological data were obtained from regional modeling results, upper air soundings and surface field measurements and were then used to create the SO2 potential parameters such as synoptic conditions, mixing heights, atmospheric stabilities, and surface conditions. In particular, two-stage clustering techniques were used to identify potential index representing major synoptic conditions associated with high SO2 concentration. Two neural network models were developed and tested in different conditions for prediction: the first model was set up to predict daily maximum SO2 at 5 PM on the previous day, and the second was 10 AM for a given forecast day using an additional potential factors related with urban emissions in the early morning. The results showed that the developed models can predict the daily maximum SO2 concentrations with good simulation accuracy of 87% and 96% for the first and second model. respectively, but the limitation of predictive capability was found at a higher or lower concentrations. The increased accuracy for the second model demonstrates that improvements can be made by utilizing more recent air quality data for initialization of the model.

        Until comparatively lately, the annual time series of the SO2 concentration had been shown in a decreasing trend in Ulsan as well as other Korean cities. However, the high concentration of SO2 was frequently found in the specific countermeasure region including the national industrial complex such as Mipo and Onsan in the Ulsan city for the period of 2001∼2004. There are many conditions that can influence the high concentration of SO2 at monitoring sites in Ulsan, such as: First, annual usage of the fuel including sulfur increased in comparison with the year before in spite of the fuel conversion policy which wants to use low sulfur oil less than 3% and LNG. Second, point source, such as the power plants and the petroleum and chemistry stacks, was the biggest contributor in SO2 emission, as a analyzed result of both the air quality modeling and the stack tele-monitoring system (TMS) data. And third, the air pollutants that occurred in processes of burning and manufacturing of the fuel including sulfur were transported slow into a special monitoring site by accumulating along the frontal area of see-breeze. It was concluded that Ulsan's current environmental policy together with control methods should be changed into the regulation on total amount of emission, including a market-based emission trading with calculating of atmospheric environmental critical loads, for the SO2 reduction like the specific countermeasure for the O3 and PM10 reduction in the Seoul metropolitan area. And this change should be started in the big point sources of 1∼3 species because they are big contributors of Ulsan's SO2 pollution. Especially it is necessary to revitalize of the self-regulation environmental management. Other control methods for sustaining the SO2 reduction are as follows: maintenance of the fuel conversion policy, reinforcement of the regional stationary source emission standard, and enlargement of the stack TMS.

        Long-term passive diffusive samplers(PDS) have been used to measure NO2 and SO2 concentrations at 21 sampling sites in Daejeon, Korea during the period of January 2000 - December 2002. The spatial distributions of annual NO2 and SO2 concentrations were mapped. Average annual NO2 concentration over the sampling period was 28.5±12.5 ppb, ranging from 1.2 to 81.7 ppb. Average annual SO2 concentration over the sampling period was 7.7±4.8 ppb, ranging from 0.6 to 26.8 ppb. On average, NO2 concentration was approximately 5.8%(1.6 ppb) larger in 2002. SO2 concentration was decreased by 13%(1.1 ppb) during the sampling period. The seasonal variation of NO2 and SO2 concentration was observed with a tendency to be higher in fall and winter. NO2 and SO2 concentrations measured at different site types(patterns of land use) show significant difference. The observed difference in concentration was associated with difference in emissions of NO2 from motor vehicles and SO2 by non-traffic fuel consumption for heating.
