        본 실험은 고기능성 채소 생산을 위한 배양액내의 적정 셀레니움 농도를 구명하고자 수행되었다. 벨기에의 채소연구소에서 허브재배를 위해 개발된 양액을 이용하여 각각 Na2SeO4를 0, 2, 4, 6, 8mg/l농도로 처리하였다. 배양액내 셀레니움의 농도가 국화과 식물인 향쑥의 생육에 미치는 영향을 알아본 결과 저농도의 처리는 생육을 향상시켰으나 6mg/l이상의 고농도 처리는 생육을 감소시켰다. 엽록소의 함량은 셀레니움 처리에 의해 증가되었는데 배양액 내의 selenate ion 농도가 높을수록 전체 엽록소함량도 증가되었다. 비타민 C의 함량은 좋은 생장을 보였던 4mg/l처리까지는 증가하였으나 그 이상으로 농도가 증가했을 때 비타민C의 함량은 감소하였다. 저농도의 selenate 이온 농도는 정유의 함량을 증가시켰으나 고농도에서는 정유의 함량이 감소되었다. 식물에 의한 셀레니움의 흡수는 배양액내의 selenate 이온 농도가 증가할수록 촉진되었다.

        같은 천남성과에 속하면서도 정유의 함유성분 및 함량이 서로 다른 수창포 정유와 석창포 정유가 토끼 적출장관 운동에 미치는 영향과 차이점, 또 어떠한 작용양식에 의하여 이루어지는가를 알아보고저 carbachol pilocarpine, histamine 및 barium chloride등과의 상호작용을 비교, 검토하였던 바 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 수창포 정유와 석창포 정유는 모두 토끼 적출장관 운동을 이완시켰으며, 농도를 증가시킬수록 이완정도는 현저하였고, 장관운동의 이완되는 정도는 두 정유 모두 같은 농도에서는 거의 비슷하였다. 2. ED50에 해당하는 농도는 수창포 정유는 0.0045% 이었고, 석창포 정유는 0.0035%이었다. 3. 수창포 정유와 석창포 정유에 의해 이완된 토끼의 적출장관은 carbachol pilocarpine, barium chloride에 의하여 정유 투여전의 상태로 회복하였으나, histamine에 의해서는 부분적인 회복을 보였다. 4. 수창포 정유와 석창포 정유는 carbachol pilocarpine, histamine 및 barium chloride에 의하여 수축된 토끼의 적출장판을 이완시켰다. 5. 이상의 결과로 보아서 수창포 정유와 석창포 정유는 다같이 향신경성작용 및 향근육성작용에 의해 토끼 적출장관 운동을 이완시킨다고 사료된다.

        The relationship between environmental growth conditions of savory(Satureja hortensis) and Zn and vitamin B3 has been previously reported. Based on these results, HPLC and GC-MS were used to investigate the levels of phenolic compounds and perform metabolite analysis, respectively, in plants collected from different areas. Differences were observed in the levels of polyphenols and flavonoids depending on sampled areas and natural conditions. Next, HPLC and metabolite analyses confirmed the presence of bioactive substances. The results also showed that the longer the storage time, the higher was the content of carvacrol and of rosmarinic acid. Finally, the difference in the active ingredients was minimal when plants were cultivated under growth conditions similar to those in the place of origin.

        The study investigated the efficacy of four different essential oils on the repellent responses of large black chafer (Holotrichia parallela) Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in organic pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) orchards. Cinnamon, pine, peppermint, and eucalyptus oils were used, and the behavioral responses and repellent effects against H. parallela were investigated under laboratory and field conditions. Adult beetle responses to different oils were examined using a Y-tube olfactometer in the laboratory and four absorbent blocks with each oil in the field. The repellent responses rates of H. parallela were 100% for cinnamon oil; however, only 67% of adult beetles avoided peppermint and eucalyptus oil in the Y-tube olfactometer bioassay. In the field tests, the least damage to leaves was observed on trees treated with cinnamon oil, whereas the most damage was observed in the control (non-treated) trees and those treated with peppermint oil, followed by eucalyptus and pine oil. Therefore, cinnamon oil can be used as a repellent to avoid damage form large black chafers in organic pear orchards.

        This study was implemented to verify effectiveness related to job stress, depression or fatigue of hospital workers, by let them wearing necklaces with essential oils injected which were extracted from herb plants, as an alternative therapy. For this study, totally 60 people were selected who work in K hospital located in D city, in accordance with their agreement with participation in, and who were divided into 30 and 30 for a control group and an experimental group as appropriate subjects. The study was followed for 2 weeks from June 29 of 2015 by July 10 of 2015, by letting the experimental group wearing essential oils necklaces with a distance of 20 cm from noses during working time for 8 hours per day. After inhaling essential oils by wearing the necklaces, the job stress status didn’t have obvious difference between two groups statically, such as 104.1±11.3 points from 101.2±10.3 points for the control group and 104.7±9.8 points from 104.9±9.0 points for the experimental group. In case of the depression status, the control group had no difference such as 28.8±8.0 points from 29.4±9.0 points, and the experimental group had small decrease with 0.017 points such as 26.6±5.3 points from 28.5±5.6 points. In case of the fatigue status, the control group had no difference such as 75.7±19.7 points from 72.0±19.0 points, and the experimental group had small decrease with 0.049 points such as 64.3±20.0 points from 70.5±19.0 points.

        Since the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor is used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, the present study aimed to analyze the component with anti-AChE activity from the essential oil of Artemisia iwayomogi (Compositae). The four major components of the essential oil were identified to be camphor (29.8%), borneol (28.0%), eucalyptol (5.81%) and coumarin (5.49%) from a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The essential oil and its three components, camphor, borneol, and coumarin, were subjected to anti-AChE assay. The IC50 values of the essential oil and coumarin were shown to be 0.298 ㎎/㎖ and 0.236 ㎎/㎖, though those of other two components, camphor and borneol, were more than 0.250 ㎎/㎖. These results suggest that coumarin is an active substance of this essential oil with anti-AChE activity.

        This study was conducted to examine how inhaling woody essential oil during work influences attention. The indoor experiment was conducted using woody essential oil that blends Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa (Siebold & Zucc.) Endl.) and pine (Pinus densiflora Siebold & Zucc.) and the control experiment was done with odorless air. The subjects were 19 high school and college students (male: 8, female: 11, average age: 19.47±3.20) and double-blind cross-over trial was conducted to identify the effect of essential oil on the body and attention. The subjects sat on the chair and closed their eyes for stabilization for 30 seconds. Then, they inhaled woody essential oil and odorless air for three minutes each. During each stimulation periods, the subjects calculated a multiplication of two digit-numbers in their minds and their heart rate variability (HRV) was measured. Physiological changes were measured using the total variation of LF/HF, which is an indicator of activities of sympathetic nerves and psychological changes were measured using the Semantic Differential Method (SD method) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS). As a result, inhaling woody essential oil increased total variation of LF/HF (diffrence of LF/HF in stimulation and LF/HF in rest; ΔLF/HF) compared to inhaling odorless air and led to the activation of sympathetic nerves. Also, it increased tranquility and reduced anger (A-H) and total mental disorder (TMD) among the psychological indicators. In case of calculations, it significantly increased the number of multiplications solved, number of correct answers, and percentage of correct answers. Overall, this study showed that inhaling woody essential oil during work effectively improved the subjects' attention.

        본 연구에서는 세토카 가지 정유의 주요 성분을 분석하고 이들의 항균, 항염 및 세포독성 실험을 진행하 였다. 세토카는 제주도에서 널리 재배되고 있는 감귤류의 품종이다. 세토카 나무의 가지는 간벌 작업으로 인해 대부분 폐기되고 있고, 이러한 폐자원의 활용은 최근 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 정유 성분은 세토카 가지의 에탄올 추출물을 호호바오일로 처리하여 얻었다. 세토카 정유의 주요 성분은 ethyl linoleate (64.1%), ethyl palmitate (16.5%), neophytadiene (11.1%) 및 β-citronellol (5.1%)임을 확인하였다. 이들의 항균활성을 확인 하기 위하여 피부 관련 미생물에 대한 paper disc 확산법을 실시한 결과 Staphylococcus aureus 및 Propionibacterium acnes에서 좋은 항균활성을 보였다. 또한 항염활성을 확인하기 위해 lipopolysaccharide (LPS)로 염증이 유도된 대식세포에서 nitric oxide (NO) 생성량을 측정한 결과 세토카 정유 성분은 농도의존적 으로 NO 생성을 저해하였다. WST-1 분석법을 이용하여 세포독성을 측정한 결과 RAW 264.7 macrophage 및 HaCaT 각질형성세포에서 세포생존율이 무처리 대조군과 비슷한 결과를 보였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 세 토카 가지 정유는 세포독성이 없으면서 염증억제 및 항균효과가 있음을 확인하였으며, 이를 응용한 화장품소재 로써의 개발이 가능할 것으로 여겨진다.

        The essential oil obtained by steam distillation from medicinal plants of Cinnamomum cassia and Prunellae Herba. Analysis of essential oils were performed on GC/MS selective detector. Separations were performed fused silica capillary column. The carrier gas was ultra pure helium with a flow of 1 ㎖/min and the splitless injector temperature was set as 280 °C. The column temperature program was as follows: initial temperature of 70 °C for 4 min, and increased by 2 °C /min 70 to 100 °C (held 2 min), After that the temperature was varied from 100 to 200 °C at 5 °C/min (held 20 min), increase to 280 °C (held 5 min) at 10 °C /min, in a total run time of 73 min. Ten volatile flavor components were identified from C. cassia and ten volatile flavor components were identified from Prunellae Herba. Strong inhibition of growth of Vibrio parahaemolyticus was obtained with all doses of C. cassia tested. Moreover, antimicrobial activity of C. cassia occurred in a dose dependant manner.

        This study was designed to analyze the chemical composition of essential oil in ‘Shiranuhi’ immature fruitand to test their biological activities. ‘Shiranuhi’ immature essential oils (SIEO) were obtained by steam distillation fromfruits collected from Jeju Island and were analyzed using gas chromatograph (GC)-flame ionization detectors (FID) andGC-MS. Fourteen components were identified in the essential oil. Limonene (75.21%) and terpineol (8.68%) were the majorcomponents in SIEO. Since acne vulgaris is the combined result of a bacterial infection and the inflammatory response tothat infection, we examined whether SIEO possessed antibacterial against skin pathogens. As a result, SIEO showed excel-lent antibacterial activities against drug-susceptible and -resistant Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis,which are acne-causing bacteria. In this study, SIEO was examined on DPPH radical scavenging activities, which showedmoderate antioxidant activity (SC50, 15.36µL/mL). In order to determined whether SIEO can be safely applied to humanskin, the cytotoxicity effects of SIEO were determined by colorimetric MTT assays in normal human fibroblasts and kerati-nocyte HaCaT cells. They exhibited low cytotoxicity at 0.5µL/mL in both celllines. Based on these results, we suggest thepossibility that essential oil of ‘Shiranuhi’ maybe considered as an antibacterial and antioxidant agent.
