        Myositis ossificans traumatica(MOT) in head and neck area is a rare non-neoplastic, heterotopic bone formation within a muscle, arising after trauma or surgery. Although the several case reports have described the occurrence of MOT in other muscles of oro-facial musculature, MOT has never been reported in mentalis muscle. We demonstrate a case of MOT occurred in mentalis muscle of a 64 years old male. He recently complained of a movable mass with no pain. He had experienced a hitting trauma on his right anterior mandible about 25 years ago. Since then, the trauma area has been asymptomatic. The lesion showed severe muscular degeneration, resulted in a pseudocystic change without epithelial lining. The ectopic ossification was closely associated with the fibrous fascia of adjacent muscles. The lesion contained a lot of basophilic materials admixed with atrophying cells, which were supposed to be derived from muscle parenchyma injured previously. It was presumed that the basophilic materials induced callus-like ossification in the fibro-muscular lesion, also recruited macrophages and fibroblasts. However, the ossification processes in MOT were predominantly characterized by dystrophic calcification without osteoblastic differentiation of mesenchymal cells. Even more, there appeared some skeletal muscle bundles which were calcified dystrophically. Therefore, we suggest the present case of MOT might be initiated by dystrophic calcification in the degenerating muscle tissue

        Epidemic models on disease spread attempt to simulate disease transmission and associated control processes. This study reviewed published papers on epidemiological models for the management of foot-and-mouth disease in the world. In addition, an individual animal-based, spatially-explicit, stochastic disease transmission model, the Davis Animal Disease Simulation (DADS) model, was described in the frame of an international collaborative research project participating three countries: Republic of Korea, USA, and New Zealand. In this project, the Korean team is aiming at developing the most appropriate parameters for livestock and epidemiology of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks. On the other hand, the purpose of foreign counterparts is validating their models: DADS (USA) and InterSpread Plus (New Zealand). Classification of farm types and preliminary estimations on the frequency of intra-herd contacts were also presented. This research project is expected to provide precious information to plan a strategy that will facilitate the eradication of foot-and-mouth disease from Korea.

        목적 : 본 연구는 일상생활에서 범하기 쉬운 사소한 실수들의 빈도를 통해 인지적 손상정도를 평가하는 인지적 실패 질문지Cognitive Failure Questionnaire(CFQ)의 국내 적용을 위한 번역연구 및 번역된 설문지의 신뢰도를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 본 번역 과정은 총 5단계로 진행되었다. 첫 번째 과정에서 작업치료사 1명이 인지적 실패 질문지 25개 항목을 한국어로 번역하였고, 두 번째 과정으로 재활전문가 으로 구성된 번역 검증 위원회에서 한글번역의 적합성 검증을 실시하여 부적절한 항목을 수정하였다. 세 번째 과정은 9명의 인지기능 장애가 있는 환자들을 대상으로 설문항목에 대한 이해도를 10점 척도로 조사하였고, 이해도가 낮은 항목들은 다시 번역검증위원회를 통해 수정하였다. 수정된 질문지는 번역 전문가를 통해 역번역하였고, 마지막으로 영어를 모국어로 하는 외국인 2명이 원문과 역번역본의 문장구조 및 의미전달의 유사성을 검증하였다. 최종 번역된 질문지는 15명의 인지기능 장애가 있는 환자군에게 1-2주일 간격으로 실시하였고, 검사·재검사 신뢰도는 급간 내 상관계수로, 내적 일치도는 크롬바 알파(Cronbach α)로 분석하였다. 결과 : 한글 번역 적합성 검증 결과 총 11개 항목을 수정하였으며, 수정된 질문지에 대한 이해도 평가 결과 대부분 의 항목에서 높은 이해도를 보였다(평균 9.0-10.0). 또한 역번역 검증 과정을 통하여 총 3개 항목을 수정하였다. 최종 번역본에 대한 검사·재검사 신뢰도는 ICC .807, 내적 일치도는 Cronbach a= .878로 나타났다. 결론 : 본 연구는 체계적인 번역 과정을 통하여 국내 적용을 위한 설문내용의 적합성과 이해도를 높였다. 또한 신뢰도 검증을 통하여 추후 인지기능 장애가 있는 뇌손상 환자군에서 인지적 실패 질문지가 다양하게 사용될 수 있는 기반을 마련하였다.

        목적 : 한글판 수정바델지수 체크리스트를 고안하고 기존 한글판 수정바델지수와 신뢰도를 비교 평가하기 위함이다. 연구방법 : 연구대상은 뇌병변 환자 30명을 대상으로 하였다. 한글판 수정바델지수 체크리스트(이하 K-MBI 체크리스트)는 기존의 한글판 수정바델지수(기존 K-MBI)와 수정바델지수(MBI) 원본을 참고하여 각 항목별 평가 내용을 세분화 및 체크리스트화 하였다. 30명의 환자를 대상으로 K-MBI 체크리스트를 사용하는 그룹과 기존 KMBI를 사용하 는 그룹으로 나누어 각 그룹에 2명의 치료사를 배정하였다. 결과분석은 평가자간 신뢰도를 알아보기 위해 총점수준에서 급간내상관계수를 구하였으며, 세부항목 수준에서 카파검정을 시행하였다. 결과 : 총점수준에서의 신뢰도는 K-MBI 체크리스트(ICC= .981)와 기존 K-MBI(ICC= .973)를 사용한 두 그룹 모두에서 매우 높은 검사자간 신뢰도를 보였다(p<.001). 세부항목별 일치도에서는 K-MBI 체크리스트를 사용한 그룹과 기존 K-MBI의 경우 모두 4개 항목에서 탁월한 일치도를 보였다. Mean K값은 K-MBI 체크리스트(.725)가 K-MBI(.699) 보다 높게 나타났다. 결론 : K-MBI 체크리스트와 기존의 K-MBI 모두 총점수준에서 높은 수준의 평가자간 신뢰도를 보였다. 세부항목수준에서 역시 두 그룹 모두 전 항목에서 상당한 수준 이상의 신뢰도를 확보하였으나, 항목 간에는 다소 차이가 있었다.

        In the previous study it was demonstrated that most of sialolith contained bacterial colonies in their center of calcified laminated capsules1). Although it is still not determined whether the bacterial infection is a major pathogenic cause or not, many authors reported that the bacterial vegetation in sialolith can cause chronic suppurative inflammation in salivary gland. Actually a lot of different bacteria were found in oral cavity, most of them are non-pathogenic as normal flora, and only some of them are pathogenic for different mucosal infectious diseases. However, this study was aimed to identify a causative bacterial strain for the sialolith formation in human salivary gland. A strain of Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis ) was found in the culture of sialolith, which was known to be a normal flora related to the fermentation of various Korean bean foods. In vitro culture experiment of B. subtilis it abundantly produced the thick biofilm aggregated around their cells and colony structure, which were subsequently attached on the surface of hydroxyapatite( HA) beads in scanning electronmicroscope(SEM) observation. The bacterial adherence on HA beads was strongest in the culture of B. subtilis, followed by Streptococcus mutans (Str. mutans ), oral mixed bacteria, and lactobacillus. Therefore, B. subtilis might be an important causative microorganism for the sialolithiasis in Korean people, and it is suggested that postmeal oral hygiene care should be required to reduce the number of normal flora, B. subtilis, after eating of fermented bean foods.

        전북 익산시 비닐하우스 엽채류 비트에서 발생하는 흰띠명나방을 채집하여 사육실(25±2℃, 16L:8D, RH 65±5%)에서 누대사육하며 흰띠명나방의 발육특성을 조사하였다. 유충의 각 영기별 두폭은 각각 0.204, 0.341, 0.578, 0.890 및 1.363mm이고, 2령에서 5령까지의 성장률은 각각 1.67, 1.69, 1.54 및 1.53이다. 온도발육 실험 결과, 알에서 성충 우화 전까지의 발육기간은 17.5℃에서 51.0일로 가장 길었고, 35℃에서 14.6일로 가장 짧게 조사되었다. 온도와 발육율의 관계를 직선회귀에 의해 분석한 결과, r2값이 0.87 이상으로 나타났다. 알부터 성충 우화 전까지의 발육영점온도와 유효적산온도는 10.4℃와 384.7일도를 나타내었고, 각 태별 발육모형은 r2값이 0.97~0.99였다. 성충수명은 5.4일에서 15.6일로 온도가 높아짐에 따라 짧아졌으며, 암컷의 수명이 수컷의 수명보다 길었다. 총산란수는 25.0℃에서 121.9개로 가장 많았고, 35℃에서 11.4개로 가장 적었다. 순증가율(RO)은 25.0℃에서 53.5이었고, 내적자연증가율(rm)과 기간증가율(λ)은 30.0℃에서 각각 0.16과 1.17로 가장 높았으며, 배수기간(Dt)은 30℃에서 4.46으로 가장 짧았으며, 평균세대기간(TO)은 온도가 올라감에 따라 짧아져 35℃에서 14.8로 가장 짧았다.

        저곡해충으로부터 쌀 포장의 피해를 줄일 수 있는 포장재질의 개선을 위하여 시중에 유통․판매되는 각각의 쌀포장지의 두께를 측정하여 각 해충의 침투수를 조사하였다. 1.61mm의 구멍을 낸 폴리에틸렌포장지에서 화랑곡나방은 실험 후 6시간 이내에 각각의 두께가 다른 폴리에틸렌포장지 모두에서 유충이 침투하기 시작하여 실험 후 12시간 이내에 총 유충의 40%정도가 침투하였으며, 어리쌀바구미는 실험 후 18시간 이내에 1.61mm의 구멍을 낸 0.2mm 폴리에틸렌포장지에서 침투가 이루어졌다. 특히, 두 해충 모두 폴리에틸렌포장지보다 종이포장지에서 상대적으로 해충의 침투가 빈번하였다. 포장내부의 습도를 조절하기위한 수단으로 폴리에틸렌포장지에 일부 지름 5mm의 작은 구멍이 있는데 이보다 작은 구멍으로 해충의 유입이 생기는 것으로 보아 구멍의 크기를 개선할 필요가 있을 것으로 생각된다.

        The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal firing condition and composition for Al2TiO5 crystal, which is suitable for stable coloration in glazes at high temperatures, using Cr2O3 as chromophore for the synthesis of Al2TiO5 system pigments. Al2TiO5 has a high refractive index and good solubility of chromophore in the Al2TiO5 lattice, making this structure a good candidate for the development of new ceramic pigments. Pigments were synthesized by using Al2O3 and TiO2 mainly. Various amounts of Cr2O3 such as 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05 mole were also added. Each compound was synthesized at 1300˚C, 1400˚C, and 1500˚C for 2 hours and cooled naturally. The crystal structure, solubility limit, and color of the synthesized pigments were analyzed by XRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, UV and UV-vis. The changes in color as the result of applying 6 wt% of the synthesized pigments to lime barium glaze were expressed as CIE-L*a*b* values. A Cr2O3 0.03 mole doped Al2TiO5 brown pigment was successfully synthesize at 1400˚C, and the values of CIE-L*a*b* parameters were L* = 44.62, a* = 3.10, and b* = 17.25. In the case of the pigment synthesized at 1500˚C, the brown color was obtained at 0.01 mole and 0.02 mole Cr2O3, and the CIE-L*a*b* values were 55.34, 1.73, 28.64, and 49.39, 0.51, 21.33, respectively. At 1500˚C, the maximum limit of solid solution was 0.03 mole Cr2O3. The glazed sample showed green color, and the values of the CIEL* a*b* parameters were L* = 45.69, a* = -0.98, and b* = 20.38.

        Al2TiO5 has a high refractive index and good solubility of the chromophore in the Al2TiO5 lattice, which allowsthis structure to be a good candidate for the development of new ceramic pigments. However, pure Al2TiO5 is well knownto decompose on firing at 900~1100oC. However, this process can be inhibited by the incorporation of certain metal cationsinto its crystalline lattice. In this study, the synthesis of gray ceramic pigment was performed by doping cobalt on the Al2TiO5crystal structure. The Al2TiO5 was synthesized using Al2O3 and TiO2, and doped with Co3O4 as a chromophore material. Inorder to prevent the thermal decomposition during the cooling procedure, MgO was added to samples by 0.05mole, 0.1mole,and 0.15mole as a stabilizer. The samples were fired at 1500oC for 2 hours and cooled naturally. The crystal structure, solubilitylimit, and color of the synthesized pigment were analyzed using XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV, and UV-vis. Al2O3 wasavailable for the formation of CoAl2O4, which should also be considered in order to explain the small amount of this phasedetected in the sample with the higher Co2+ content (≥0.03mole). It was found that the solubility limit of Co2+ in the Al2TiO5crystal was 0.02mole% through an analysis of Raman spectroscopy. Through the addition of a pigment with 0.02mole% ofCo2+ to lime-barium glaze, stabilized gray color pigments with 66.54, −2.35, and 4.68 as CIE-L*a*b* were synthesized.

        This study was carried out to investigate antibiotic resistances of 181 isolates in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from 450 specimens which were a General Hospital personnel in Cheonan province. Of the 181 isolates, 89 isolates (49.2%) were methicillin resistant and 92 isolates were susceptible. They were resistant to penicillin (80.1%), clindamycin (18.8%), oxacillin (49.2%), cefepime (28.2%), cefotetan (34.3%), ampicillin (66.3%), gentamicin (27.6%), tetracycline (17.7%) and erythromycine (43.1%), also. In resistant rates of the 89 MRSA, 5 antibiotics were more than 50%, but in those of the 92 MSSA, only 1 antibiotics was. Also they showed very highly multi-drug resistance patterns to 15 antibiotics as follow : One hundred and forty five isolates(82.3%) showed antibiotic resistance to more than one kind of the 15 kinds antibiotics. In the multiple resistant patterns, one drug resistant isolates were 18 isolates (9.9%), 2 drugs 29 (16.0%), 3 drugs 21 (11.6%), 4 drugs 29 (16.0%), and more than 5 drugs were 52 isolates (28.7%). The number of more than 5 drugs resistant strains in MSSA were only 1 strain, but those in MRSA were 51 isolates (57.3%). Forty five isolates (24.9%) produced enterotoxin serotype C and all MRSA.

        Glutamate-induced oxidative injury contributes to neuronal degeneration in many central nervous system (CNS) diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy and ischemia. Inducible heme oxygenase (HO)-1 acts against oxidants that are thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of these diseases. The EtOH extracts of Viola mandshurica (NNMBS274), Viola patrinii (NNMBS275) and Viola papilionacea Pursh (NNMBS276), origin plants of Violae Herba, showed the potent neuroprotective effects on glutamate-induced neurotoxicity. Among them, NNMBS275, the extract of V. patrinii possessed the protective effects against glutamate toxicity by inducing the expression of heme oxygenase (HO)-1 in the mouse hippocampal HT22 cells. These results suggest that extracts of V. patrinii could be the effective candidates for the treatment of ROS-related neurological diseases. Furthermore, it is suggested that the protective effects of V. patrinii extract due to inducing the expression of HO-1 asAs the exfoliated keratinocytes (EKs) in oral mucosa are aging and degenerating cells, of which cytoplasms are almost replaced by cross-linked keratin materials. Consequently, the EKs become apoptotic with nuclear lysis. A question is arisen what is the biological role of these EKs in oral cavity? Are they simply degrading as aging keratinocytes or do they have some essential function still remained in the exfoliated status? The buccal smear samples from ten healthy adult subjects were observed under scanning electron microscope. On the outer surface of the EKs the features of bacterial adhesion were explored. The microorganisms attached on the surface of EKs were much deformed, shrunken and teared. Only a few microorganisms were found on the EK surface, aggregated focally. The attached microorganisms were gradually fused on the cell membrane of EKs, and subsequently endocytosed. Resultantly, many round endocytotic concave cavities similar size to the cocci were remained on the surface of EKs similar to the sequels of caveolae endocytosis. These data indicate that the degenerating EKs can actively engulf microorganisms attached on their cell surface via the processes of caveolae endocytosis. Therefore, it is presumed that the oral EKs still play a role for endocytotic scavenging of oral microorganisms using the denatured cell bodies themselves, which become highly adherent to oral microorganisms and still function for caveolae endocytosis in mixed saliva environment. an antioxidant/cytoprotective target

        The composition of fatty acids in bakery products from 35 bakeries in Seoul was analyzed by GCFID. The contents of crude fat in bakery products were represented 9.54-44.30% in pastries, 14.67-41.22% in cookies and 7.63-28.15% in whipped cream cakes. The total saturated fatty acid content in pastries, cookies and whipped cream cakes were 12.8-75.1%, 8.7-81.6% and 50.2-85.9% respectively. The proportion of trans fatty acids in pastries ranged from 0.00 to 3.37%. Cookies and whipped cream cakes were represented varying amount of trans fatty acid with highest value of 4.55% in cookies and 2.13% in whipped cream cakes. Total estimated daily intakes of fatty acids from pastries and whipped cream cakes were as follows : 1.2 g/day/person for saturated fatty acids and 0.014 g/day/person for trans fatty acids.

        본 실험은 압출성형을 통한 저DE덱스트린 제조공정을 확립하기 위해서 수분함량 25, 35% 배럴온도 100, 120oC, 스크루 회전속도 150, 250 rpm에서 압출성형한 전분을 알파아밀라아제로 당화시켰을 때 당화특성을 연구하였다. 수분용해지수는 원료전분 수분함량이 25%로 감소할 경우 증가되었으며, 수분흡착지수도 수분의 감소와 함께 전체적으로 증가하였다. 환원당함량의 경우 수분함량이 낮고 배럴온도 높을수록 증가되었다. 120 분간 당화 후 DE 63.8로 높게 나타났다. 비기계적 에너지 투입량(SME)의 증가와 함께 수분용해도는 증가하는 경향이었다. 또한 수분함량의 감소와 함께 비기계적 에너지 투입량과 수분용해도는 증가하였다. 페이스트점도는 원료전분의 수분이 낮고, 스크루 회전 속도가 증가할수록 전분사슬의 절단에 따라 저온최고점도가 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 초기반응속도는 수분함량이 25%로 낮고 배럴온도 120oC, 스크루 회전수 250 rpm에서 2.26 × 10−3mmol/mL·min로 가장 높았다. 시중 호화전분 1.83 × 10−3mmol/mL·min에 비해서도 높은 결과를 보였다. 당화속도상수는 히구치모델을 응용하였으며, 수분함량이 낮고 배럴온도가 120oC일 때 전체적으로 높게 나타났다. 본 실험에서 초기반응속도, 당화속도상수, 당화수율 등을 고려할 때, 최적조건은 수분함량 25%, 배럴온도 120oC, 스크루 회전속도 250 rpm이었다.

        The objective of this study was to investigate the extent of total sugar and sodium in 129 different kinds of bakery products, breads and cookies, sold at bakeshops in Seoul metropolitan area. The bakery products produced by bakeshops on a small scale were not applied by clauses of mandatory nutrition label for children's taste food. All types of free sugars -fructose, glucose, sucrose, lactose and maltose- were detected in breads, but only fructose and sucrose were detected in cookies. The average amount of sucrose per 100 g of breads was 6.24 g, of cookies was 30.03 g. Breads and cookies amounting to 100 g of sample contained total sugar of 11.19 g and 30.38 g, respectively. The average amounts of sodium in breads and cookies were 120.71 mg/100 g, 70.76 mg/100 g, respectively. When the contents of total sugar in breads and cookies per one serving size were compared to WHO guidelines, the percentages were 15.7% and 18.2% about recommended daily intake of total sugar of 50 g. When it come to sodium, the bakery products had range of 1.1~6.5% to 2000 mg of daily intake of sodium recommended by WHO.
