        In this study, the symbols and visual expressions employed in the food culture content of official website designed to promote three cities in Korea, Seoul, Jeonju and Jeju, were subjected to semiotic analysis. In this study, it was assumed that these websites reflected the varying perspectives of the people behind the development and management of these routes of Internet communication, and the semiotic choices made in order to exemplify each city’s food cultural image. The aim of the study was to analyze the communication strategies of food cultural branding in the terms of the online content regarding Seoul, Jeonju, and Jeju with a focus on the comparative points in these cities’ official websites. This study included conducting semiotic content analyses of the aforementioned cities’ official web pages in an attempt to determine the food branding strategies used to differentiation and produce more favorable perceptions of these three cities. Building upon the findings drawn from this comparative study, the present work can be used to determine more effective ways of strategically differentiating the images of local food culture associated with these cities from the view of brand communications. This study also demonstrates viable directions for designing web content for a city where the food cultural messages can be delivered in a thoughtful and effective manner.

        본 논문에서는 우리 생활 깊숙이 파고들어 새로운 커뮤니케이션의 도구로 활용되고 있는 인스턴트 메신저의 이용 동기와 이용에 따른 충족, 그리고 인스턴트 메신저를 통한 텍스트의 교환이 타인(상대방)에 대한 지각에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 사회적 현존감(a sense of being together)라는 개념을 이용해 살펴보고자 하였다. 미국 대학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 결과 대학생들은 인스턴트 메신저를 사회적 상호 작용성, 심리적 안정성, 편리성, 오락 및 휴식, 정보 추구 등의 충족을 얻기 위해 사용하고 있으며, 채팅 상대방과 함께 있다고 느끼는 사회적 현존감의 경험은 이용 동기, 이용 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 조사되었다. 특히 사회적 현존감의 경험 정도에 따라서 메신저 이용의 충족 정도가 달라짐으로써 사회적 현존감이 인스턴트 메신저 이용에 있어서 중요한 매개 변인으로서 기능하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 사회적 현존감의 차이는 성별에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Although anyonecan makeorusethe‘CampusTerms’bothinsideandoutsideof the university,the subjects of this study was limited to university studentsonly.Thesimilaritiesanddifferencesinthecampusvocabularies acrossthethreecountrieshavebeencomparedandanalysed.Itishoped thatthis research could provide some lights in the various ways of neologismsofKorean,EnglishandJapanese.

        There are 55 nations which accept Islam as a religion in the world. Among them Asia has the most Muslim population. In the beginning of the 21st century Muslims have a trend of spreading out throughout the world, and they have their own common festivals. Those are festivals called the Minor festive day and the Major festive day. These are the greatest festive days of Islam to be held from the 70 days after Ramadan finished. The festive days are called a mass worship service. These festive days become the spiritual connection point which the rich share beasts with the poor. Islam id begins from the point that Abraham offered a living beast as a sacrifice to God at the Genesis of the Old Testament. Id festival is the duty of all Muslims in the Islam world and is to show the mind to submit to Allah. Islam id is the festival to pray for service and achievement, the day of thanksgiving and celebration, the day of triumph, the day to collect the fruits of good deeds and service, and simultaneously the spiritual union and the festival to have the meaning that purifies the souls. Even if festival is kept by all people, it is the time when a patriarch kills a beast and share it with relatives and all people with pleasure. But that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice contains the redemptive principle to redeem a life, that is, the symbol of Messiah to come. This is aimed to seek for the contact point of the Gospel in the Christian perspective through this Islam id festival. It is important for us to see the contextual communication to be united with the audience and the phenomenon to occur in the mind of a receiver for the cultural sharing and message sending. And through the ministry to be shown by action, instead of rejection symptom against the culture we can seek for the contact point. Above all things, we can send through the cultural situation in this festival of Islam, the form and meaning of culture, the core of the Gospel, and the redemptive death of a Lamb as a sacrificial offering by exchanging the religious information as a contact point to send the Biblical truth. We must make Islam id festival the opportunity of the Gospel message.

        e스포츠는 스타크래프트 게임에서 시작되었다. 이후 수용자가 스타크래프트게임에 참여하면서 e스포츠로 발전하였다. e스포츠의 수용자커뮤니케이션은 게임, 방송 그리고 웹에서 이루어진다. e스포츠 초기에는 생산자와 수용자가 분리되기 시작하였고, 수용자는 일방적으로 메시지를 전달받는 입장이었다. 이후 점차적으로 메시지를 전달하는 능동적인 수용자로 변화하였다. e스포츠는 다시 수용자의 참여에 의해 방송에서 웹사이트등으로 확장되어, 여러 매체를 통해 메시지를 전달받고 전달하는 능동적인 수용자가 되었다.

        The current study proposes the directions of oral communication education for adult learners. It reports the preliminary results of a survey into the workplace oral communication uses of business employees. A questionnaire was developed and administered to 121 employees working at 6 different companies. The questionnaire was constructed based on the oral communication forms, adapted and modified from the oral communication forms categorized by Crosling & Ward (2002). The oral communication forms within the organization were categorized into communication (1) with similar status staff, (2) with supervisors, (3) with lesser status staff, (4) in team works, and (5) in meetings. The most frequently occurring form of oral communication at work was 'communicating for networking' for similar status staff; 'following instructions and responding orally' for supervisors; 'informal conversation' for lesser status staff; 'participating in discussions' for teamwork'; and 'communicating for networking' for meetings. On the other hand, the most difficult form of oral communication at work was 'persuading' for similar status staff, for supervisors, for lesser status staff, and for meetings; and 'chairing and leading discussions' for teamwork. Implications for oral communication education are discussed in light of these findings.

        The purpose of this study is to explore communicative tasks carried out in global financial organizations in Korea. In particular, we attempt to find out some of the communicative tasks that employees are required to perform in their daily work settings. Interviews were conducted with twenty nine employees at the global financial firms such as Citibank, Goldman Sach, ABN AMBRO, and Credit Sussise. Interviewees were asked about (1) daily communicative tasks they carry out in English and in Korean at work, (2) the difficulty they encounter communicating in English and in Korean for tasks at work, and (3) the perceived needs to improve communication skills for tasks at work. The responses of the interviewees were categorized, coded, and analyzed qualitatively. Based on the findings, several preliminary conclusions are made along with suggestions on communication education for employees in financial sectors.

        본 연구는 우리나라 국립공원의 대표적 자연해설시설인 탐방안내소 중 계획에 의해 조성ㆍ운영중인 내장산국립공원 내장사지구 탐방안내소와 북한산국립공원 정릉지구 탐방안내소를 대상으로 기능평가를 통한 이용활성화 방안제시를 목적으로 하였다. 국내외의 문헌연구를 통해 탐방안내소의 개념 및 기능, 유형 등을 파악하고 McManus의 커뮤니케이션 이론을 중심으로 탐방객에 의한 이용 후 평가를 실시하였다. 총 5단계에 걸친 평가 결과 탐방안내소 이용자들은 탐방안내소를 이해하기 위한 충분한 관람시간을 갖지 못하였으며 편의시설과 안내시스템의 부족으로 올바른 이용이 이루어지지 않았다. 전시내용에 대한 관람성향과 전시 내용의 이해도 부문 역시 전시물과 탐방객과의 원활한 커뮤니케이션이 이루어지고 있지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 이런 문제점들의 개선방안으로는 첫째, 탐방안내소 홍보 및 안내사인 보완 둘째, 다양한 계층을 고려한 전시관별 특성화와 차별화 된 전시연출 셋째, 각 전시내용들이 각 탐방객들의 사회적 경험과 연관되도록 하며 넷째, 전시주제에 맞는 전시매체의 적극적 활용이 필요함을 제안하였다.

        We cannot imagine textbooks without visual images in foreign language education. What are their roles and fuctions in language teaching? Are they simple decorations for just visual effects? Or are they presented to facilitate listening and reading comprehesion? To answer to these questions, this study is designed to analyse the relations between visual images and texts in language teaching materials based on communicative approach, and to argue that visual images are means of conveying their own autonomous meanings.
