        Questionnaires were distributed to Radiology departments at hospitals with 300 sickbeds throughout the Pohang region of North Gyeongsang Province concerning awareness and performance levels of infection control. The investigation included measurements of the pollution levels of imaging equipment and assistive apparatuses in order to prepare a plan for the activation of prevention and management of hospital infections. The survey was designed to question respondents in regards to personal data, infection management prevention education, and infection management guidelines. The ATP Public Heath Monitering System was used to measure seven items for pollution levels of imaging equipment and assistive apparatuses in the Radiology Department. Data was analysed using SPSS version 12.0 for paired t-test and Pearson coefficient with a statistically significant level of 0.05. The results of the survey showed a total awareness level of infection management prevention education averaged at 3.73 ± 0.64 and performance levels resulted at 3.39 ± 0.83 which were statistically significant (p = 0.01). Also the measurements of pollution levels for equipment with high patient contact showed a Pearson Coefficient of over 0.5 implying a focus on pathogenic bacterium. There was no statistical significance with the frequency of imaging (p < 0.05). Therefore for general hospitals with high patient contact, there is a need to supply analyzing equipment for real time monitoring and the implementation of disinfection management that uses a Ministry of Health and Welfare approved antiseptic solution twice every minute.

        In this study, the bioactivities of ethanol (EELS) and water extract (WELS) from the leaf of Lythrum salicaria L. were investigated. In the anti-cancer activity, the growths of both human prostate cancer (DU145) and human colonic carcinoma cell (HT29) were inhibited up 60% by adding 10 mg/ml of EELS. Anti-inflammatory activity of EELS and WELS have been evaluated on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced release of nitric oxide (NO) by the macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. EELS and WELS inhibited inflammatory by 57.3 and 46.9% in 10 mg/ml, respectively. In the anti-oxidative activity, IC50 of DPPH radical scavenging activity was respectively 60.71 and 92.90 μg/ml by EELS and WELS. In the anti-diabetic activity, IC50 of α-amylase inhibitory activity of EELS and WELS were respectively 5,250 and 5,020 μg/ml. IC50 of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was 7.96 and 68.41 μg/ml by EELS and WELS. In the anti-obesity, IC50 of lipase inhibitory activity was 880 and 9,840 μg/ml by EELS and WELS. Finally, EELS and WELS exhibited anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic activity and anti-obesity. It suggests that Lythrum salicaria L. could be potentially used as a resource of bioactive materials for health functional foods.

        본 연구의 원예치료 프로그램 실시로 대상자들은 회기를 거듭할수록 작업에 흥미를 보이며 자신의 감정을 적극적으로 표현하거나 자신이 주체적으로 참여하려는 태도를 보였다. 이는 연구 결과에서 나타나듯이 부정적이고 낮은 자아개념를 가진 정신지체학생들에게 작업의 참여와 흥미를 유도하여, 자아존중감을 향상시키는 효과가 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 이러한 결과를 기초로 차후에 이들이 학교 졸업 후 사회생활과 연계되어 지속적으로 운영될 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다고 생각된다.

        Eleuthero(Eleutherococcus senticosus Maxim.) cortex is well known as a herb medicine for tonic. This study was performed to improve the quality of dried E. senticosus cortex. Investigation of quality factor and contents of efficient compounds under different steaming times and drying methods were performed to determine the proper processing and drying conditions of Eleuthero cortex harvested on March in annual stems. The proper steaming time for peeling bark to make high quality Eleuthero cortex took less than 20 mins. Eleutheroside B and E contents among drying methods were significantly different at 5% level DMRT. The 50℃ heat drying was the most advisable condition for drying, when drying and keeping contents of effective compounds.

        To acquire preliminary data for the control of total nitrogen (TN) in S sewage treatment plant, which processes merging food waste and sewage, the effect of reject water on the total nitrogen in the effluent was examined in this study. Water quality data for the plant during the winter period were applied to calculate the mass balance. It was calculated that at least more than 231 kg/d TN should be removed to control the TN concentration in the effluent. Assuming 18 ppm as the goal TN concentration in the effluent, about 941 kg/d TN should be removed from this plant. Approximately 10% more TN should be removed than at present to achieve this result. It was observed that dewatering the filtrate had a considerably greater effect on the total nitrogen in the effluent than the reject waters. The dewatered filtrate contained 1,399kg/d TN. The contribution of the dewatered filtrate to the TN concentration in the effluent was 0.183, which was 7 to 23 times greater than the other reject waters. In addition, the amount of total nitrogen from the reject water, with the exception of the dewatering filtrate, was lower than the amount of TN that should be removed from S sewage treatment plant. Therefore, it was concluded that one of the most effective methods for controlling the TN concentration in effluent was the removal of the TN contained in the dewatering filtrate.

        Volatile flavor compounds from the shoot and root of Angelica gigas Nakai were extracted by HE (Hydrodis-tillation extraction), SDE (Simultaneous steam distillation & extraction), and SFE (Supercritical fluid extraction system),and analyzed by GC-MS. The amount and the number of chemical components in essential oils from shoot and root by SFEwas the higher than those by other extraction methods. Respectively, thirty one constituents were identified from the essen-tial oil of the shoot and root by HE, twenty seven and twenty three constituents were identified from the essential oil of shootand root by SDE, thirty one and forty five constituents were identified from the essential oil of shoot and root by SFE. Theresult showed large differences in extraction methods and in plant parts of Angelica gigas Nakai. Also, the bioactive com-pounds in root part was identified as nodakenin and decursinol (11.95% and 8.42%, respectively) by SFE. These results sug-gested that SFE was the best extraction method for the increasing of extraction yield, the determination of volatilecomponents and the increasing of bioactive compounds in the shoot and root of Angelica gigas Nakai.

        본 연구는 대상자의 수가 적고 대조군이 없어 연구결과를 일반화시키기에 제한점이 있으며,연구결과에서 원예치료 프로그램이 여성정신분열증 환자에게 자아존중감에 미치는 영향을 검증한 결과 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 원예치료 프로그램을 대상자와 함께 하는 동안 그들의 변화하는 모습에서 프로그램 실시 전에 비해 프로그램 실시 후 여성 정신분열증 환자들의 자아존중감에 원예치료 프로그램이 많은 영향력을 미친다는 사실을 알 수 있었다.여성이라는 특수성으로 인해 원예치료의 모든 프로그램을 매우 좋아하며 적극적으로 임하는 모습을 보면서 지속적으로 실시할 수 있는 원예치료 프로그램 개발과 활용방안 연구에 힘써야 할 것이라 생각된다. 그리고 다양한 식물과 재료를 사용하여 새로운 것에 대하여 경험하여보게 하고 새로운 방법을 시도해 볼 수 있도록 하여 자아존중감을 회복시켜 여성 정신분열증 환자에게 재활 및 사회복귀에 기여할 것이라 사료된다.

        The mushroom Agrocybe chaxingu was analyzed to evaluate the nutritional value of this potential food. The moisture content was 88.9% in the fruiting body of A. chaxingu, and the proportions of ash, crude fiber, carbohydrate, crude protein, and crude fat were 0.9%, 1.4%, 7.2%, 2.5% and 0.4% by weight, respectively. A. chaxingu contained 1.29 mg/100 g edible weight of vitamin , and the contents of vitamin , vitamin , and vitamin C were 0.15 mg, 0.32 mg, and 18.4 mg per 100 g of wet mushroom. Potassium (3,318 mg/100 g, dry basis) was found at the highest concentration in A. chaxingu. In addition, the mushroom contained many other minerals (all figures are mg per 100 g of dried mushroom) such as phosphorus (909.7), magnesium (141.3), sodium (12.7), zinc (7.4), iron (6.5), copper (2.8), manganese (0.8), and nickel (0.1). The results indicate that A. chaxingu is a valuable nutrient source.
