        The aim of this study was to evaluate key properties of the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten (OFI) ie, levels of key chemicals (carotenoids, flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds as well as phenolic acid) and its antioxidative potential, depending on where the plant had been cultivated in Korea. The levels of flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds in OFI were 55.45~65.32 mg (+)-catechin/g and 149.00~181.15 mg gallic acid/g, respectively. Protocatechuic acid was the most abundant phenolic acid in the ON1 and ON2 (161.90 and 196.25 μg/g DW (dry weight)). Nineteen flavonoids were identified and analyzed by LC-ESI-MS in cladodes from OFI. Narcissin was the most abundant flavonoid in all of the samples (1,241.89~1,775.10 μg/g DW). Capxanthin and zeaxanthin were the most abundant carotenoids in OFI (64.88~128.08 and 48.10~93.82 μg/g DW). The level of DPPH radical and ABTS radical scavenging activities in OFI were 10.78~25.35 and 16.85~34.16 mg AA eq/100 g, respectively.         Dy3+ and Eu3+-codoped SrWO4 phosphor thin films were deposited on sapphire substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering by changing the growth and thermal annealing temperatures. The results show that the structural and optical properties of the phosphor thin films depended on the growth and thermal annealing temperatures. All the phosphor thin films, irrespective of the growth or the thermal annealing temperatures, exhibited tetragonal structures with a dominant (112) diffraction peak. The thin films deposited at a growth temperature of 100 oC and a thermal annealing temperature of 650 oC showed average transmittances of 87.5% and 88.4% in the wavelength range of 500-1100 nm and band gap energy values of 4.00 and 4.20 eV, respectively. The excitation spectra of the phosphor thin films showed a broad charge transfer band that peaked at 234 nm, which is in the range of 200-270 nm. The emission spectra under ultraviolet excitation at 234 nm showed an intense emission peak at 572 nm and several weaker bands at 479, 612, 660, and 758 nm. These results suggest that the SrWO4: Dy3+, Eu3+ thin films can be used as white light emitting materials suitable for applications in display and solid-state lighting.

        This study was conducted to investigate changes in the proximate composition, antioxidant activities, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of Opuntia ficus-indica (OFI) cladodes cultivated in Jeju (JJ1, JJ2, JJ3) and Jeonnam (JN1, JN2). The difference in the proximate composition (crude protein, lipid and ash content) of OFI between the two regions was not significant. Ca, Mg and Na were the major mineral components of OFI. The ascorbic acid content of OFI ranged from 57.87 to 143.72 mg/100 g. A 70% ethanol extract was used to investigate the antioxidant content and activity as well as the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of OFI were 38.69~55.29 and 3.33~4.03 mg/g, respectively. The antioxidant activities based on the DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging assays were 45.19~ 61.52% and 39.15~51.96%, respectively, at a concentration of 1 mg/mL. The inhibitory activity of OFI extracts against rat intestinal α-glucosidase was 29.72~45.73% at 1 mg/mL concentration, and JN1 showed the highest α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. This information could be very useful for authentication of Opuntia species with the highest potential as sources of nutritional and therapeutic elements.

        This study aimed to investigate the concentration of vitamin C in Momordica charantia (MC) by cultivar, harvest time, and maturity. The methods for determining vitamin C levels were validated by measuring their linearity, specificity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy using HPLC. Results showed high linearity in the calibration curve, with a coefficient of correlation (R2) of 0.9994. The LOD and LOQ values for vitamin C were 0.05 and 0.16 μg/mL, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for intra- and inter-day precision of vitamin C measurements were 2.34 and 1.34%, respectively. Depending on cultivar, the concentration of vitamin C in MC varied from 20.75~107.31 mg/100 g, fresh weight, with an average level 68.85±25.57 mg/100 g, FW. When MC was analyzed by harvest time, the 20150612 MC showed the highest amount of vitamin C (113.20±1.89 mg/100 g, FW). On the other hand, the highest vitamin C content by maturity was 48.59±0.87 mg/100 g, FW (15 day old MC). This information on the comparative vitamin C levels of MC might be useful to food scientists and should be explored for functional food development.

        Silver nanomaterials have been intensively applied in consumer products of diverse industrial sectors because of their strong biocidal properties and reported to be hazardous to aquatic organisms once released in the environment. Nanomaterials including sliver, are known to be different in toxicity according to their physicochemical characteristics such as size, shape, length etc. However studies comparing toxicity among silver nanomaterials with different physicochemical characteristics are very limited. Here, toxicities of silver nanomaterials with different size (50, 100, 150 nm), length (10, 20 μm), shape (wire, sphere), and coating material (polyvinylpyrrolidone, citrate) using OECD test guidelines were evaluated in aquatic species (zebrafish, daphnia, algae) and compared. On a size property, the smaller of silver nanomaterials, the more toxic to tested organisms. Sphered type of silver nanomaterials was less toxic to organisms than wired type, and shorter nanowires were less toxic than longer ones. Meanwhile the toxic effects of materials coated on silver nanomaterials were slightly different in each tested species, but not statistically significant. To the best of our knowledge, it is first investigation to evaluate and compare ecotoxicity of silver nanomaterials having different physicochemical characteristics using same test species and test guidelines. This study can provide valuable information for human and environmental risk assessment of silver nanomaterials and guide material manufacturers to synthesize silver nanomaterials more safely to human and environment.

        고추를 비롯한 채소작물에 심각한 피해를 야기하는 흰비단병의 생물학적 방제제를 개발하기 위하여 시설재배 토양에서 분리한 세균 중에서 흰비단병균인 Sclerotium rolfsii의 균사생장을 강하게 억제하는 균주를 선발하였다. 선발된 균주는 형태적, 생리적 분석과 16S rRNA 분석결과를 바탕으로 Bacillus amyloliquefaciens로 동정하였고 최종 선발균주를 Bacillus amyloliquefaciens KBC1009로 명명하였 다. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens KBC1009의 배양특성을 조사한 결과 배양온도 30℃, pH 7의 조건에서 72시간동안 배양했을 때 배양 효율이 가장 우수하였으며, 배양에 적정한 영양원은 탄소원 glucose, 질 소원 yeast extract를 사용했을 때 가장 높은 균수를 나타내었다. 포장에서 고추 흰비단병에 대한 Bacillus amyloliquefaciens KBC1009의 방제효과를 검정하기 위해 흰비단병원균을 토양에 접종하고 B. amyloliquefaciens KBC1009 배양액(5×108 cfu/ml)을 500배로 희석하여 10일 간격으로 3회 관주 처리한 결과 무처리대비 66.7%의 방제효과를 나타내었다.

        Sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) are a group of over 500 compounds, characteristic of the Asteraceae. They are interesting from the chemical and chemotaxonomic point of view, and show antitumour, anti-leukaemic, anti-cardiovascular disease, reduction of inflammation, and anti-microbial activities. The SLs, free lactucin and lactucopicrin, content in 572 accessions of lettuce (Lactuca sp.) germplasm introduced from 30 countries were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography. Variation range of free lactucin content exhibited trace ~ 235.3 μg from 1g of dried leaves and average was 41.2 ± 1.2 μg (Avr ± SE), variation range 55.0 ~ 3,041.0 μg and average 526.9 ± 17.5 μg in free lactucopicrin content, and variation range 66.3 ~ 3,188.5 μg and average 568.1 ± 18.1 μg in total free SLs content. Lactucopicrin occupied 92.7% of the total SLs content. Among the varietal types, crisphead type exhibited the highest average total free SLs content, next is leaf lettuce, and butterhead type lettuce exhibited the lowest that of content. German accessions exhibited the lowest average total free SLs content, Korean accessions exhibited the highest, and European origin accessions exhibited lower that of content. Red leaf color accessions having higher SLs content than that of green color. Seven accessions having more than 2,000 μg·g-1 dwt of total free SLs content and five accessions having less than 100 μg·g- 1dwt that of content. These accessions can be used as low SLs content cultivar breeding or high SLs content cultivar breeding sources as well as research materials for medical treatment such as, anti-tumour, anti-leukaemic, and antimicrobial activities, etc.

        Infrared thermography provides the colorful images of concerning area where local changes of surface temperature occurs and can be used to measure the fine temperature of human body. Unlike the radiography technique, it is determined by the presence or absence of existing anatomical principles capable of quantitative evaluation and visible to the physiological and functional state of the human body. In this paper, it was studied the characteristics of dynamic motion conditions in the hands due to physiological changes of temperature distribution.         PURPOSES: The objective of this study was to determine the optimum ratio of mix design, for a reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content of 100%, for spray injection application. METHODS: A literature review revealed that spray injection is an efficient and cost-effective application for fixing small defective regions of an asphalt pavement. Rapid-setting polymer-modified asphalt mixtures prepared from two types of rapid-setting polymer asphalt emulsion were subjected to Marshall stability and wet track abrasion tests, in order to identify the optimum mix designs. RESULTS and CONCLUSIONS : Different mix designs of type A and type B emulsions were prepared using RAP and virgin aggregates, in order to compare the performance and determine the optimum mix design. The performance of mixtures prepared with RAP was superior to that of mixtures containing virgin aggregates. Moreover, for optimum ratio of the design, the binder content prepared from RAP was set to 1~2% lower than that consisting of virgin aggregates. Compared to their Type A counterparts, type B mixtures consisting of a reactive emulsion performed better in the Marshall stability and wet track abrasion tests. The initial results confirmed the advantages associated with using RAP for spray injection applications. Further studies will be performed to verify the difference in the optimum mix design and performance obtained in the lab-scale test and tests conducted at the job site by using the spray injection machine.

        Soft rot caused by Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum is a destructive disease of the fleshy storage tissues of vegetables and ornamentals that occurs worldwide. This study was carried out to find an effective method for evaluating soft rot disease on a massive scale in greenhouse and to screen resistant accession for the disease with lettuce germplasm. Spray method with 5 mL suspension of 109 colony formation unit per milliliter (CFU/mL) of P. carotovorum subsp. carotovorum per plant at the 6 ~ 7 foliage leaf stage was the most effective to evaluate soft rot disease. We evaluated resistance to soft rot using this method for 812 accessions of lettuce germplasm introduced from 52 countries. As the results, withered rates for each germplasm accession ranged from 0 to 100 percent and among 812 accessions of lettuce germplasm investigated, 21 accessions showed very high resistance. Among the 21 accessions, 11 accessions were from Korea, each 2 accessions were from USA and Israel, and each 1 accession was from Afghanistan, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. Accessions from Israel, Syria, and Afghanistan showed high resistance level. Among very high resistant 21 accessions, 12 were landraces, 6 were cultivars, and 3 were wild relatives. The 21 accessions were consisted of 12 leaf lettuce, 5 romaine type, 3 wild relatives, and 1 butterhead lettuce. Leaf lettuce accessions showed the highest resistance level while crisphead lettuce accessions had the lowest resistance level among the cultivated lettuce types. Wild relatives had greater resistance than landraces and cultivars. These accessions which resistance to soft rot will be used for soft rot resistance breeding program in lettuce.

        ‘Venus Berry’ 품종은 경기도농업기술원에서 2011년도에 육성한 절화용 장미 신품종이다. 이 품종은 2006년도에 ‘Boy Friend’ 와 ‘GSR10314’ 를 교배하여 2007년도에 실 생을 양성하였다. 종자친으로 사용된 ‘Boy Friend’는 화 색이 보라색(RHS Color Chart Purple Group 76B)이며 개화소요일수는 45일이다. 화분친으로 사용된 ‘GSR10314’ 은 화색이 흐린 분홍색(RHS Color Chart Red Group 52C)이며 절화수명이 13일이다. 2008년부터 2011년까지 절화 특성검정을 실시한 결과 절화특성이 우수하여 최종 적으로 선발하여 명명하였다. 중형 스탠다드 형태의 꽃으 로서 화색은 연한 분홍색(RHS Color Chart Red Purple Group 69C)이다. 잎의 흰가루병 발생 정도는 적었다. 줄 기 10cm에 1.8개의 가시가 있으며 개화소요일수는 45일 이었으며 년간 절화수량은 194.1본/m2 이었다. 절화장 은 65.5cm이고 절화중은 36.8g이었다. 화폭 10.2cm, 화 고 4.3cm, 꽃잎수 43.6매이었으며 절화수명은 12일이었다. ‘Venus Berry’ 품종은 2013년 국립종자원에 품종보호권등 록(품종보호 제4447) 되었다.

        Russia has very rich biodiversity because it is spread geo-morphologically regions which have very diverse climate character as well as it had carried out to do 1,842 times collecting missions in the world. The plant genetic resources of N.I. Vavilov Institute Gene bank collection have been conserved over 324 thousand germplasm accessions of 155 botanical families, 376 genera, 2,169 species. PGR in VIR have conserved in paper bags in aluminum boxes at room temperature for active working collections and also other PGRs were conserved in Long-term storage at – 100C and short-term storage at+40C at aluminum bags in plastic boxes from 2002. Results of studies of genetic potential of cultivated crops and their wild relatives have been processed into “Cultivated flora” and monographs, including new data of phylogeny, taxonomy, genetics, cytology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, immunity. As a result of primary evaluation every year around 1000 new sources for breeding have been selected. The germplasm in VIR are distributed for 20,000 accessions per year for the new breed upbringing and genetic resources research is about 50%. Therefore, securing of resources is steadily seed with a variety of climates, but to secure the VIR collected from all over the world is worth. In addition, there is a lot of variety of vegetables and minor cereals ensure crops, the genetic resources of vegetables and minor cereals are conserved in VIR will be able to take advantage of a variety of vegetables and minor cereals resource utilization study, if used to conserved the landraces in VIR.

        Forest vegetation of Hwangjangsan (1,077.3 m) in Woraksan National Park is classified into mountain forest vegetation. Mountain forest vegetation is subdivided into deciduous broad-leaved forest, mountain valley forest, coniferous forest, riparian forest, afforestation and other vegetation. Including 55 communities of mountain forest vegetation and 4 communities of other vegetation, the total of 59 communities were researched; mountain forest vegetation classified by physiognomy classification are 28 communities deciduous broad-leaved forest, 12 communities of mountain valley forest, 3 communities of coniferous forests, 2 communities of riparian forest, 10 afforestation and 4 other vegetation. As for the distribution rate for surveyed main communities, Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis communities account for 65.928 percent of deciduous broad leaved forest, Fraxinus rhynchophylla - Quercus mongolica community takes up 41.459 percent of mountain valley forest, Pinus densiflora community holds 86.100 percent of mountain coniferous forest holds. In conclusion, minority species consisting of Quercus mongolica, Pinus densiflora, Quercus variabilis, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, and Quercus serrata are distributed as dominant species of the uppermost part in a forest vegetation region in Woraksan National Park. In addition, because of vegetation succession and climate factors, numerous colonies formed by the two species are expected to be replaced by Quercus mongolica, Quercus variabilis, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla which are climax species in the area.

        ◉ 목적 : 본 연구는 국내 아동작업치료사를 대상으로 평가도구의 사용 실태 및 동향을 파악하여 임상적으로 유용한 자료를 제시하고자 하였다. ◉ 연구방법 : 본 연구는 2011년 9월부터 11월까지 대한아동․학교작업치료학회, 대한감각통합치료학회, 대한작업치료학회에서 주최한 교육에 참석한 아동작업치료사를 대상으로 설문을 실시하였다. 설문지는 응답자의 일반적인 특성과 연구대상자의 평가관련 정보, 각 영역별 평가도구의 사용 빈도로 구성하였다. 설문에 응답한 137명의 자료를 대상으로 빈도분석과 상관분석을 이용하여 평가도구 사용동향을 분석하였다. ◉ 결과 : 연구결과에 따르면 아동작업치료사는 초기 평가시간으로 20∼40분(32.5%)을 할애하는 응답자가 가장 많았으며, 재평가 주기는 6개월(47.5%), 평가 시 가장 어려운 점은 기관 내 보유한 검사도구의 부족(52.5%)으로 나타났다. 영역별 검사도구의 사용빈도는 발달 평가영역에서 Denver Developmental Screening Test-Ⅱ (DDST-Ⅱ, 86.3%), 감각통합 평가영역은 Sensory Profile (76.3%), 지각 평가영역은 Developmental Test of Visual Perception (DTVP, 75%), 인지 평가영역은 Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA, 15%), 심리사회·놀이평가영역에서는 Preschool Play Scale, Revised(PPS/PPS-K)(22.5%), 작업수행 평가영역에서는 사회성숙도검사(46.3%)를 가장 많이 사용하였다. ◉ 결론 : 본 연구결과를 통해 국내 아동작업치료사들의 평가도구 사용에 관한 정보와 평가도구 사용을 영역별로 파악할 수 있었으며, 추후 작업치료사들의 교육을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

        Consumers may have different reasons to buy the animal welfare eggs by purchase places. They may have preferred places to buy the eggs, also. The objective of this study was to compare the purchase places for the eggs. If the producers of the eggs understand the different reasons by the places, they will establish marketing strategies for the eggs by the purchase places. A total of 355 Korean consumers was surveyed. There were statistical significances at traditional market, major retail outlet, and convenience store for female consumers and at traditional market, major retail outlet, department store, internet shopping and convenience store for married people. For age groups, over 40s group showed a significance at traditional market, major retail outlet, department store and convenience store. There were statistically significant at traditional market, major retail outlet, and convenience store for the respondents who had over three million won as their monthly income. It was significantly proven at traditional market and major retail outlet for full time housewives. From the results of the study, the following marketing strategies can be suggested for the places to buy the eggs by demographic classification. The producers should classify the markets and focus their strategies to each place for increasing their market share. These results suggest that focus on traditional market for female and middle-aged group, and retail shop like discount store for the people classified by over 3 million won in income. This study also could be used to aid marketing strategy and animal welfare eggs research.

        물리적 청결과 도덕적 판단에 대한 기존의 실험 연구들은 청결 관련 개념이 활성화될 때 사람들은 도덕적으로 더 엄격해 진다는 것을 보고하였다. 하지만 원래 가지고 있는 개인 간 청결 욕구의 차이와 도덕적 판단의 관계는 아직 명확하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 설문조사를 통해 개인이 평상시에 느끼는 청결 욕구와 도덕적 판단이 관련이 있는지(연구 1), 그리고 실험적으로 조작된 물리적 청결 수준이 청결 욕구와 도덕적 판단간의 관계에 영향을 미치는 지(연구 2)를 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 참가자들은 일상생활 속에서 본인이 가지고 있는 청결 욕구가 높을수록 도덕적 판단 기준 또한 엄격하였으며 평소 청결에 대한 욕구가 높지 않은 참가자들은 상대적으로 도덕적 판단 기준이 온화 한 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 실험적으로 청결 수준을 조작하였을 때에도 동일하게 나타났으며 물리적 청결 수준에 따른 도덕적 판단의 평균 차이는 유의미하지 않았다.
