Spirodelae Herba (SH) and Perilla Frutescens (PF) extracts have been widely used in clinical practice with various disorders for thousands of years. There are some reports regarding the anticancer effects of SH and PF each by each, but their mixture have not been investigated and their mechanisms also have not been clear. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the anticancer mechanisms and their effects of the mixture of SH and PF extracts on head and neck cancer cell line. Head and neck carcinoma KB cells were treated with SH, PF and their mixture. Anticancer effects were investigated by searching cancer cell death pathway; apoptosis and autophagy, which have been regarded to be effective and safe methods. Apoptosis, which is termed a programmed cell death, was observed by TUNNEL assay. Autophagy, which is termed a type II programmed cell death, was observed by acridine orange red staining. Additionally, the protein expressions associated with apoptosis and autophagy were detected for their mechanism by western blots. The mixture of SH and PF extracts induced autophagic and apoptotic cell death simultaneously in cancer cells. And 0.4 mg/ml of the mixture with SH and PF extracts down-regulated the expression of mTOR, however, the expressions of ATG5 and LC3-II, which induced autophagy, up-regulated. The mixture of SH and PF extracts also down-regulated the expressions of Bcl-2, but up-regulate the expressions of PARP-1 cleavage, Caspase-9 cleavage, Caspase-3 cleavage and BAX, which induced apoptosis. Taken together, these results suggested that the mixture of SH and PF extracts induce autophagic and apoptotic cell death simultaneously in head and neck cancer cells and it could be used as an alternative for anti-cancer drugs.
통영 LNG 기지에서 방류되는 냉배수가 진해만에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 냉배수의 활용 방안 모색을 위해 총 4개의 냉배수 방류량에 대한 진해만의 환경변화를 1년간(2018년) 모의하였다. 실제 냉배수 방류량인 Case1(10 m3 sec-1)의 모의 결과, 모든 분기에서 냉배 수에 의한 진해만의 환경변화는 매우 미미하게 나타났다. 모의 방류량인 Case2(100 m3 sec-1)의 경우 방류구 반경 5 km 범위에서 1 ~ 3℃의 수온 감소를 보였으며, Case3(1000 m3 sec-1)에서는 방류구 반경 8 km 범위에서 최대 4 ~ 5℃의 수온이 감소하였고 진해만 전 해역에 걸쳐 냉 배수가 확산하는 결과를 보였다. 플랑크톤의 성장 속도는 최대 15% 감소하였으며(11월), 대형조류의 성장 속도는 행암만 부근에서 최대 6 % 증가하는 결과를 보였다. 상기 결과로부터 통영 LNG 기지에서 방류되는 냉배수에 의한 진해만의 환경변화는 미미한 것을 확인하였 다. 또한 Case3 결과로부터 국소지역의 ‘적조 방재’, ‘해조류 성장’을 목적으로 냉배수의 활용이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.
분자 중심에 두 가지 다른 형태의 길고 강직한 core 구조를 함유하고 양 말단에 적당한 길이의 스페이서와 중합이 가능한 아크릴기를 포함하도록 설계된 두 종류의 액정단량체를 설계, 합성하였으며, 분자구조를 1H-NMR을 통해 확인 하였다. 합성된 액정단량체의 액정 특성을 DSC와 편광현미경을 사용하여 조사한 결과 각각 냉각 온도를 기준으로 84.6~74.0 oC와 133.5~91.6 oC 사이에서 스멕틱 상을 나타냄을 확인하였다. 특히 경직된 선형의 아세틸렌기를 포함하는 액정단량체(PRM-2)의 경우에는 보다 스멕틱 액정상의 발현 온도 범위가 넓을 뿐 아니라 좀 더 정렬도(order parameter)가 높은 스멕틱 A상을 나타냄을 확인 할 수 있었다.
Sialadenoma papilliferum (SP) is a rare tumor that develops from salivary glands. First described by Abrams and Finck, the tumor shows a papillary form. The most frequent location of this tumor is the palate. In this case, we report a 63 year old man with a lesion located at the right retromolar of the mandible which might have caused bone resorption. Among with this case report, this paper discuss the feature of this rare tumor. The cases were searched from the pubmed website (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/) using the keyword ‘sialadenoma papilliferum’. Out of total 65 cases 41 patients were male and 19 patients were female. 4 patients were under the age of 20, 4 patients were between 21 and 40, 25 patients were between 41 and 60, 23 patients were between 61 and 80 and 4 patients were over 81 years old. The number of patients with the size of the lesion less than 1cm were 23, 16 patients had the size of 1cm to 2cm and 8 patients lesion were larger than 2cm. 22 lesions were located at the hard palate, 2 were at the soft palate, 6 were at the junction of hard and soft palate, 8 were at the buccal mucosa, 1 was at the upper lip mucosa, 3 were at the retromolar pad, 2 were at the tongue, 4 were at the parotid gland, 2 were at the floor of mouth, 1 was at the faucial pillar, 3 were at the bronchus, 1 was at the esophagus, 2 were at the nasopharynx, 1 was at the nasal septum, 1 was at the lung, 1was at the nasal cavity. In this case the lesion was found at an unusual location and although SP is known to be a benign tumor it may present bone resorption and have malignant characteristics.
본 연구는 생태지역 유형에 따른 방문자의 경험에 대한 인식을 비교하는데 목적을 두고 수행되었다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 생태지역 유형을 자연생태지역과 인공생태지역으로 구분하였으며, 생태지역별 방문 경험자를 대상으로 방문경험에 대한 인식도 분석과 인식도에 따른 만족도 분석을 실시하였다. 먼저, 방문경험 인식 측정요소에 대한 분석결과, 생태체험, 환경친화, 사회성, 휴식 등의 4개 요인이 도출되었다. 자연생태지역과 인공생태지역에 따라 방문경험 요인별 로 인식차이를 비교한 결과, 전반적으로 자연생태지역에서의 방문경험 인식이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 생태지역 방문경험 인식이 방문자 만족도에 미치는 영향 분석 결과에서는 자연생태지역과 인공생태지역에서 휴식성이 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 자연생태지역에서는 생태체험 요인, 인공생태지역에서는 환경친화 요인이 방문자 만족에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었으며, 이에 대한 계획 및 관리적 차원의 시사점을 제시하였다.
The occurrence of atypical lipomatous tumor of the head and neck is rare, and clinical and histologically differential diagnosis of the tumor is needed for other similar diseases. Herein we report atypical lipomatous tumor arising in neck area. And literature review was done. Complete excision with negative margins followed by long-term follow-up is recommended as the treatment of choice for these uncommon entities.
The aim of this study was to examine the effects and the sensitivity of antifungal therapy for patients with oral candidiasis and to investigate the relationship among the signs & symptoms of patients and the ratio change of Candida species to antifungal therapy. Candida fungus culture test with ChromeIDTM Candida agar (CAN2) was carried out more than twice for 10 patients who visited Oral Medicine department of Chonnam National University Dental Hospital during the period from Dec. 2015 to Aug. 2016. After culturing the smear sample before and after antifungal therapy in ChromeIDTM Candida agar (CAN2), the number of colonies was counted to compare. Patients were divided into 5 group according to the therapeutic effects of the antifungal agents used: 1) high susceptibility to nystatin, 2) low susceptibility to nystatin, 3) high susceptibility to fluzonazole, 4) low susceptibility to fluzonazole, and 5) increased ratio of new Candida species. Although nystatin is used as first-line therapy in oral candidiasis, it is desirable to use fluconazole if patients had a history of the low sensitivity to nystatin or chemotherapy. Even if the patient's symptoms and signs are improved, there is a possibility of oral candidiasis recurring, so that clinicians should be careful during the treatment with antifungal agents.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution of Candida species in patients with oral disease and clarify the distinction of Candida culture test according to its isolation technique. 75 samples was isolated from 42 patients who visited Chonnam National University Dental Hospital due to oral disease from December 2015 to August 2016. For isolating the candida sampling, saliva sampling and oral swabbing were used. Acquired sampling was cultured in CHROMagar Candida Culture Medium, which indicates the candida species as color. Of the 42 patients, C. albicans was the most frequently isolated species in 39 patients. For 17 patients out of 21 who underwent saliva sampling and oral swabbing simultaneously, oral swabbing was quantitatively underestimated comparing to saliva sampling. 12 samples in 21 samples having particular Candida species were not isolated by oral swabbing. Considering the possibility of fungal infection in various oral disease, it is recommended to perform not only oral swabbing but saliva sampling when isolating Candida.
해상국립공원지역의 생태계 기반 관리체계를 만드는데 도움이 되기 위해서 국립공원 연구 1호(국립공원관리공단, 147 ton)를 이용하여 한려해상국립공원과 다도해해상국립 공원의 유·무인도서 및 특정도서에 대해서 육상조사, 수중 조사와 해저지형을 조사하여 육상 및 해상, 해중을 연계한 종합생태지도를 제작하였다. 해중생태지도 제작을 위해서 육상 및 해상 좌표계를 통일하였으며, 조사 격자 범위에서 생태지도의 주요 생물상 분포를 분석한 다음에 ArcGIS 프 로그램을 이용하여 생태지도를 제작하였다. 수치표고모형 (DEM, Digital Elevation Model)을 작성하기 위해서 고도 와 수심자료를 이용하여 불규칙삼각망(TIN)을 작성하고 육 상 등고선과 해양 등수심선에 대해서 각각의 TIN을 만들어 DEM을 작성 후, 지형을 분석하였다. 위성 및 항공영상의 배경합성은 육상과 해상의 고도와 수심 자료로 만든 DEM 의 항공사진과 해저면 스캔영상을 따로 모자이크하고 합성 하였다. 해저지형 분석은 ArcScene을 실행한 후, 따로 만든 항공 및 해저 이미지에 DEM을 기저고도(Base Height)로 설정한 다음, 지형 분석에 이용하였다. 제작된 3차원 이미지 는 0.25m격자의 해상도를 갖고 있는 항공영상과 해저면의 Side Scan Sonar 이미지를 이용하였으며, 육상과 해양을 통합하여 3 차원 구현이 되도록 수행하였다. 촬영된 항공영 상과 해저면 영상에 대해서 현장 검증을 수행하기 위해서 육상 현장조사과 식생조사, 수중조사와 해양생물 분석 자료 를 반영하여 해저와 육상 지형 분포도를 작성하였다. 본 조사 결과를 이용하여 작성된 육상 및 해양 생태지도는 서 식지와 생태계의 종합적인 관리지도를 작성하는 기초단계 로서 기후변화와 생물다양성을 고려한 종합적인 관리지도 로 발전시키고 향후, 외적인 환경변화를 추가함으로서 해양 자원관리와 생물보전 방안을 마련하는데 활용해야 될 것이 다.
해상국립공원 내 분포하는 다수의 도서는 해양생물다양 성 측면에서 매우 높은 가치를 가지고 있기 때문에 생태학 적 기반의 관리 방안을 마련하여 보전해야 하는 중요한 도 서이다. 본 연구는 해상국립공원 내 서식지를 기반으로 한 해양생태계 관리와 활용방안을 마련하고자 국립공원연구1 호(국립공원관리공단, 147 ton)를 이용하여 2012년 계절별 로 4회 조사를 수행하였다. 해양생태계 기본조사는 한려해 상국립공원 동부해역의 해양환경(CTD, 수질, 퇴적물)과 해 양생물(동·식물플랑크톤, 해조류, 저서무척추동물, 어류)에 대한 시·공간 분포특성을 조사하였다. 유·무인도서 및 특정 도서 정밀 조사는 한려해상국립공원 주변에 있는 6개(경남 홍도, 북여도, 어유도, 갈도, 세존도) 도서와 다도해 해상국 립공원의 백도에 대해서 스쿠버 다이빙(SCUBA Diving)으 로 수중생물 분포조사를 수행하였다. 그리고 사이드스캔소 나(Side Scan Sonar)를 이용해 해저지형도를 작성하여 서식 지 기반 수중생태계 지도를 작성하였다. 한려해상국립공원 동부지역 거제도 외해의 대한해협 부근에서 고온고염의 대 마난류(對馬暖流)의 유입이 확인되었으며, 다양한 해양생 물이 출현하여 생물다양성이 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 동· 식물플랑크톤의 분포는 해상공원구역 내에서 높게 나타났 으며, 해류의 계절적 분포와 비교적 잘 일치하였다. 한려해 상국립공원의 홍도와 다도해해상국립공원의 백도에는 멸 종위기종인 나팔고둥, 둔한진총산호, 유착나무돌산호, 검붉 은수지맨드라미, 해송 등이 다수 발견되어 주변의 다른 도 서와 비교했을 때, 해양생물의 다양성에 차이를 보였다. 특 히, 홍도와 백도에서 기후변화 난류성 지표종인 옥덩굴(해 조류)과 빨강불가사리의 출현은 기후변화(수온상승)로 남 해안의 생물종 분포가 변화하고 있는 것으로 추정된다. 본 조사의 중요 결과는 한려해상국립공원의 해양생태계를 이 해하고, 해양생물 서식지를 기반으로 하는 종합적 생태지도 를 작성하고, 서식지 관리가 시급한 도서는 전략적으로 집 중 관리해야 할 것으로 보인다.
We demonstrate optical cross-sectional imaging system implemented with high-resolution interferometry and present oral diagnostic imaging results obtained without any physical sectioning. High-resolution interferometry could be performed with utilizing broadband optical source and employment of beam scanning device to high-resolution interferometer constitutes optical imaging system for non-invasive cross-sectional view at real-time. The optical imaging system is implemented with fiber-optic devices for compactness and optical probe head is realized by using single mode optical fiber and miniaturized actuator, which is properly designed for the application to dental imaging. The basic performance of the optical imaging system, for example, such as resolution, imaging depth, and sensitivity is suggested to prove high-resolution optical imaging performance. Feasibility of the developed optical imaging system performance in the application of dental diagnostic is proved with demonstrating non-invasively obtained cross-sectional images. The imaging quality suggested in the images could be applied to assessment of oral diseases and used for alternative imaging modality to X-ray diagnostic method overcoming disadvantage of low-image resolution. The imaging performance enabling real-time image reconstruction also could be exploited as early oral diagnostic apparatus prior to microscopic observation under H&E staining.
Low level light therapy (LLLT) is known to accelerate the process of wound healing, bone and cartilage formation, and to decrease tissue necrosis and inflammation. It also can be applicable to acute and chronic injury or degenerative disease. Despite forty- plus years of accumulating exprerience of the clinical efficacy of LLLT, their molecular biologic evidence is not fully elucidated. The aim of this review is to explore the role of the ROS system and its molecular biologic mechanism in related with inflammatory response, anti-apoptosis and angiogenesis during LLLT. We suggest that activation of ROS system explains many (if not most) of the observed response of cells to LLLT in vitro, and is likely to play a pivotal role in the response of animals and patients to LLLT for both experimental and clinical indications and diseases.
Recently, one-dimensional semiconducting nanomaterials have attracted considerable interest for their potential as building blocks for fabricating various nanodevices. Among these semiconducting nanomaterials,, SnO2 nanostructures including nanowires, nanorods, nanobelts, and nanotubes were successfully synthesized and their electrochemical properties were evaluated. Although SnO2 nanowires and nanobelts exhibit fascinating gas sensing characteristics, there are still significant difficulties in using them for device applications. The crucial problem is the alignment of the nanowires. Each nanowire should be attached on each die using arduous e-beam or photolithography, which is quite an undesirable process in terms of mass production in the current semiconductor industry. In this study, a simple process for making sensitive SnO2 nanowire-based gas sensors by using a standard semiconducting fabrication process was studied. The nanowires were aligned in-situ during nanowire synthesis by thermal CVD process and a nanowire network structure between the electrodes was obtained. The SnO2 nanowire network was floated upon the Si substrate by separating an Au catalyst between the electrodes. As the electric current is transported along the networks of the nanowires, not along the surface layer on the substrate, the gas sensitivities could be maximized in this networked and floated structure. By varying the nanowire density and the distance between the electrodes, several types of nanowire network were fabricated. The NO2 gas sensitivity was 30~200 when the NO2 concentration was 5~20ppm. The response time was ca. 30~110 sec.
Transparent conducting oxide (TCO) films are widely used for optoelectronic applications. Among TCO materials,zinc oxide (ZnO) has been studied extensively for its high optical transmission and electrical conduction. In this study, the effectsof O2 plasma pretreatment on the properties of Ga-doped ZnO films (GZO) on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate werestudied. The O2 plasma pretreatment process was used instead of conventional oxide buffer layers. The O2 plasma treatmentprocess has several merits compared with the oxide buffer layer treatment, especially on a mass production scale. In this process,an additional sputtering system for oxide composition is not needed and the plasma treatment process is easily adopted as anin-line process. GZO films were fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering process. To improve surface energy and adhesionbetween the PEN substrate and the GZO film, the O2 plasma pre-treatment process was used prior to GZO sputtering. As theRF power and the treatment time increased, the contact angle decreased and the RMS surface roughness increased significantly.It is believed that the surface energy and adhesive force of the polymer surfaces increased with the O2 plasma treatment andthat the crystallinity and grain size of the GZO films increased. When the RF power was 100W and the treatment time was120 sec in the O2 plasma pretreatment process, the resistivity of the GZO films on the PEN substrate was 1.05×10-3Ω-cm,which is an appropriate range for most optoelectronic applications.
Candida albicans and their associated Candida species are opportunistic pathogens which exists as normal flora in the oral cavities of healthy individuals. In response to physiological changes in the host, these yeasts can become pathogenic, resulting in oral candidiasis. The rapid detection and identification of Candida species in clinical laboratories are extremely important for the management of patients with hematogenous candidiasis. The presently available culture and biochemical methods for detection and species identification of Candida are time-consuming and lack the required sensitivity and specificity. In this study, we have established a seminested PCR (snPCR) using universal and species-specific primers for detection of Candida species in saliva. The universal outer primers amplified the 3end of 5.8S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) and the 5end of 28S rDNA, including the internally transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2), generating 350- to 410-bp fragments from the four commonly encountered Candida spp., viz., C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. glabrata, and C. parapsilosis. The saliva from 331 healthy and, over 50 years of aged people lived in Dong-gu, Gwangu city, was collected. Total DNA were extracted by Hoffman-Winston yeast total DNA prep. method and performed t he s nP CR. R esults appeared to b e negative on 292 people ( 88.2%), however, 2 6 people ( 7.9%) were p ositive Candida albicans, 6 people (1.8%) were positive Candida glabrata, 5 people (1.5%) were positive Candida tropicalis, and only 2 person (0.6%) were positive Candida parapsilosis. These result showed that detection and identification of Candida species could be established by saliva analysis, so that snPCR on saliva is useful method of diagnosis of clinical fields
BaTiO3/epoxy composites have been widely investigated as promising materials for embedded capacitors in printed circuit boards. It is generally known that the dielectric constant (K) of the BaTiO3/epoxy composites increases with improvement of the dispersion of BaTiO3 particles in the epoxy matrix that comes from adding surfactant. The influences of surfactant addition on the dielectric properties of the BaTiO3/epoxy composites are reported in the present study. The dielectric constant of the BaTiO3/epoxy composites is not significantly affected by the surfactant addition. However, the temperature coefficient of capacitance increases and the peel strength decreases as the amount of added surfactant increases. The influences of surfactant addition on the dielectric properties of the neat epoxy are also very similar to those of the BaTiO3/epoxy composites. The residual surfactant in the BaTiO3/epoxy composites affects the temperature coefficient of capacitance and the peel strength of the epoxy matrix, which in turn affects the temperature coefficient of capacitance and the peel strength of the BaTiO3/epoxy composites.
BaTiO3/epoxy composites can be applied as the dielectric materials for embedded capacitors. The effects of the degree of BaTiO3 particle agglomeration on the dielectric properties of BaTiO3/epoxy composites were investigated in the present study. The degree of particle agglomeration was controlled by the milling of the agglomerated particles. The size and content of the agglomerated BaTiO3 particles decreased with an increase in the milling time. The dielectric constants and polarizations of BaTiO3/epoxy composites abruptly decreased with the increase of the milling time. It was concluded that the dielectric constants and polarizations of BaTiO3/epoxy composites decreased as the degree of particle agglomeration decreased. The degree of agglomeration of BaTiO3 particles turned out to be a very influential factor on the dielectric properties of BaTiO3/epoxy composites.
To investigate the differential expression of genes by 635nm LEDs irradiation in arachidonic acid-treated human gingival fibroblasts, cDNA microarray was carried out. Human gingival fibroblasts were primary cultured and arachidonic acid was treated to induce inflammation. 635nm of wave length was used for LEDs irradiation. The experimental group was categorized into four group ; control, only LEDs irradiation group, only arachidonic acid-treated group and arachidonic acid-treated with LEDs irradiation group. The expression of 8,078 genes were increased and the expression of 7,103 genes were decreased in only LEDs irradiation group. For arachidonic acid-treated with LEDs irradiation group, the expression of 6,815 genes were increased, while the expression of 8,031 genes were decreased comparing with only arachidonic acid-treated group. IL-13alpha2 receptor was the most expressed gene in LEDs irradiation group comparing with control, followed by MMP3. Genes which the most down regulated was BIRC3 in LEDs irradiation group. PLAB genes was the most up-regulated in arachidonic acid treated with LEDs irradation group, followed by ranked RARRES1. Considering the classification by cell function, genes associated with signal transduction were the most affected by LEDs irradiation, followed by the genes associated with nucleoside, nucleotide and nucleic acid metabolism. In arachidonic acid treated with LEDs irradiation, genes associated with signal transduction and protein metabolism were affected. Taken together, LEDs irradiation could affect various biological process and could identify many genes related to LEDs irradiation, which could be used for clinical application.
