        γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a natural stress-reducing substance and is actively used as a human health supplement. However, minimal research has been conducted on its use in cattle. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of GABA on the growth performance, complete blood count, blood metabolites, and carcass characteristics of fattening Hanwoo steers. Twenty-one fattening steers were randomly assigned to one of three treatments: control (basal diet: concentrate feed + rice straw), T1 (basal diet + GABA supplement at 0.8% of feed/head/day), and T2 (basal diet + GABA supplement at 1.6% of feed/head/day). Feed intake and conversion ratio did not differ among the treatments. However, the average daily gain during the early fattening period increased linearly to 0.80 kg, 0.86 kg, and 0.92 kg in the control, T1, and T2 groups (p<0.05). Plasma γ-glutamyl transferase (37.5, 58.2, 42.8 U/ℓ) and creatinine (1.32, 1.34, 1.49 ㎎/㎗) levels in the GABA supplement group were increased compared to those in the control group. The carcass weight (422.7, 427.1, 454.1 kg), rib eye area (86.67, 92.57, 91.14 cm2), and marbling score (3.67, 4.29, 4.14) were numerically higher in the GABA supplement group than in the control group. Thus, GABA supplementation positively affected the average daily gain and carcass characteristics of Hanwoo steers. However, the effect of the GABA supplement level of GABA was small, and further research using rumen-protected coating technology on GABA is necessary.

        전자 및 화학 산업의 초순수 생산 및 원자력 발전소의 부식 제어를 위해 이온교환 수지탑의 성능 파악이 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 4종의 H 및 ETAH 형 양이온 교환수지가 채워진 양이온 및 혼상 이온교환수지탑에 미량의 NaCl를 포함하는 에탄올아민(ETA) 및 암모니아(NH3) 용액을 주입하여 양이온 파과특성을 조사하였다. 조사 결과, 주성분인 ETAH+ 및 NH4 +와 달리, 미량성분인 Na+는 (이론적교환용량의 3배 이상) 시험기간 동안 수지탑 출구에서 파과 및 오버슈팅 현상이 나타나지 않았다. H형 수지탑의 파과현상은 ETAH+ 및 NH4 +가 순서대로 일어났고, 오버슈팅은 NH4 +가 파과할때 ETAH+에 대해서 발생했다. 파과영역의 너비로 결정되는 상대적 선택도는 NH4 +가 ETAH+보다 최대 51.5 % 더 높았다. 유입수 Na+ 농도가 높을수록, 선택도는 감소하고 오버슈팅 현상은 증가하였다. 이온교환 수지의 고유 특성을 개선하여 감소시킬 수 있는 Na+ 누출은, ETAH형에서 높았고 4종의 양이온수지에 대해 동일하지 않은 것으로 조사되었다.

        This study investigated the effects of π-ray treated feeds on the growth performance, carcass composition, internal organ weight, and sensory evaluation of broilers. One hundred and eighty broiler chicks were used as experimental animals. These were divided into four treatment groups according to the π-ray treated feed supplement level: 0% (control) 1%, 3%, and 5%. The π-ray treated feeds did not significantly affect on the body weight gain (2,484–2,602 g), feed intake (4,747–4,944 g), and feed efficiency (1.90–1.98) in broilers (p>0.05). Also, carcass protein (20.2–20.4%) and fat (4.6–4.9%) contents were not affected. The lengths (178.0, 182.7, 198.0, and 190.3 cm) and weights (38.4, 41.2, 44.2, and 38.9 g/kg of body weight) of the small intestine were slightly but not significantly higher in the π-ray treatments than in the control. Further, there were no overall effect of the π-ray treatment on the abdominal fat pad (2.3, 2.1, 2.1, and 1.8%), and cecum (6.7, 4.0, 5.6, and 6.0 g/kg of body weight) and gizzard (16.8, 15.2, 18.0, and 16.6 g/kg of body weight) weights of the broilers in the present study (p>0.05). The stickiness (2.25, 4.25, 4.50, and 4.38) and flavor (2.44, 4.25, 4.31, and 4.38) of cooked breast meat were higher in the π-ray treatments than in the control (p<0.01). This study also found that, in humans, eating cooked breast meat of broilers that were fed π-ray treated feeds had a positive effect on the blood circulation in the capillaries. Thus, the findings of this study suggest that dietary π-ray treatment has a positive effect on the sensory evaluation of broilers, without any negative effect on their body weight gain, feed intake, and feed efficiency, and that the consumption of these broilers is beneficial for humans on their blood circulation.

        In in vitro fermentation studies, feed samples can either be included in the in vitro rumen medium using filter bags or can be directly dispersed. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different pore sizes of filter bags on the rumen fermentation characteristics in an in vitro system. Corn, soybean meal, and timothy were ground to pass through a 1.0-mm screen and were formulated in the ratio of 70:7:23 based on DM, respectively. The formulated experimental diet (2g/DM) was put in F57 filter bags and R510 nylon bags (Ankom®) which pore sizes were 25 and 50 μm, respectively. An in vitro study was conducted to determine the rumen fermentation characteristics for 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h and rumen microbial community at 48 h of incubation. A significantly higher production of gas was observed in the R510 bags than in F57 at all the incubation times (p<0.01). IVDMD (p<0.01) and IVNDFD (p<0.01) were significantly higher, whereas pH (p<0.01) and NH3-N (p<0.01) were lower when R510 bags were used. In the VFA composition, acetate and butyrate were significantly higher (p<0.01) in R510 bags, and propionate and total VFA concentration did not differ (p=0.55 and 0.25, respectively) between F57 and R510 bags. The log copy numbers of bacteria and protozoa did not differ (p=0.69 and 0.94, respectively) between F57 and R510 bags, whereas those of fungi were significantly higher in R510 than in F57 bags (p<0.01). Therefore, the use of R510 may reflect actual rumen fermentation characteristics more precisely than those of F57 because increased gas production, nutrient digestibility and acetate, butyrate proportion were founded in R510.

        This study was carried out to investigate the effect of the feeding method of total mixed fermentation (TMF) and concentrate feed on the growth performance, carcass and meat characteristics of late fattening Hanwoo steers. Twenty-four Hanwoo steers were used in this study. The control group was fed with concentrate feed + rice straw from the growing to the late fattening period, while the T1 group was fed with TMF from the growing to the early fattening period and concentrate feed + rice straw for the late fattening period. The T2 group was fed with TMF from the growing to the late fattening period. The average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not different between the treatment and control group. Serum cholesterol and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations were higher in the T2 groups than in the control group (p<0.05). The yield grade and quality grade were not different between the treatment and control group. The lightness of longissimus muscle was higher in the T1 group than in the control and T2 groups (p<0.05). Poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) of longissimus muscle was increased in the T2 groups than in the control group. Therefore, the method of feeding TMF and concentrate feed could have a positive effect on the lightness and fatty acid composition of longissimus muscle without affecting the growth and carcass grades of Hanwoo steers.

        본 연구는 사양체계 및 TMR의 NDF 수준이 번식용 젖소 육성우의 혈중 대사물질 농도 변화에 미치는 영향을 검토하고, 에너지, 단백질, 지질 및 간 기능 관련 지표 대사물질의 농도를 토대로 영양 상태를 관리하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 수행되었다. 공시동물은 번식용 젖소 육성우 50두를 공시하였으며, 시험구 배치는 사양체계에 따라 TMR 처리구(TMR) 및 배합사료 + 혼합 조사료 처리구(CON)의 2처리로 하였으며, TMR의 NDF 수준에 따라 53% 이상(T1), 50 ∼ 53%(T2) 및 50% 이하(T3)로 3처리 하였다. 혈중 GLU 농도는 사양체계에 영향을 받지 않았지만, NDF 수준이 감소될수록 유의적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 사양체계가 혈중 단백질 관련 대사물질 농도에 미치는 영향은 없었으며, NDF 수준이 낮아질수록 혈중 ALB 농도가 증가되는 결과를 보였다(p<0.05). 혈중 CHOL 농도는 TMR 보다 CON 처리구에서 높았으며 (p<0.05), NDF 수준이 낮을수록 증가되는 결과가 나타났다. 혈중 지질 농도는 TMR 보다 CON에서 높았으며, NDF 수준이 낮아질수록 높게 나타났다. 혈중 ALT 농도는 T3구가 T1 및 T2구에 비해 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다(p<0.05). 따라서 본 연구의 결과에서 사양체계 및 TMR의 NDF 수준은 번식용 젖소 육성우의 혈중 대사물질 농도 변화에 영향을 미칠 수 있지만, 사료섭취량 및 영양성분 수준을 고려할 필요가 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        This study aimed to investigate the effect of using corn flakes, produced by pressurized steam chamber, on nutrient disappearance rate and energy value in three Hanwoo and three Holstein cows, implanted with a ruminal fistula. Corn flakes were categorized in 2 groups based on the chamber type: control (corn flakes produced using a steam chamber) and treatment (corn flakes produced using a pressurized steam chamber). Dry matter (DM) disappearance rate was 5.17% higher in treatment than in control (p<0.01). Starch disappearance rate was also higher in the treatment than in the control (p<0.01). Nitrogen free extract (NFE) and non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) disappearance rates were 6.08 and 5.71% higher in treatment compared to control, respectively (p<0.01). In comparison by breed and incubation time, DM, starch, NFE, and NFC disappearance rates were higher in treatment than in control. The mean total digestible nutrients (TDN) was higher in treatment than in control (p<0.05). In comparison between Hanwoo and Holstein, TDN of corn flakes was slightly but not significantly higher in Holstein than in Hanwoo. Thus, these results indicate that the use of the pressurized steam chamber is recommended to increase the nutrient (starch, NFE, NFC etc.) disappearance rate and TDN.

        This study was conducted to investigate whether dietary levels of copra and palm meals affect the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of Hanwoo steers. Eighty-one Hanwoo steers were randomly assigned to one of three dietary groups: T1 (conventional level of palm and copra meals), T2 (20% copra meal and 15% palm meal), and T3 (30% copra meal and 20% palm meal). During the growing and early fattening periods, the average daily gains and formula feed intakes of T2 and T3 were higher than that of T1; however, those differences were not statistically significant. The dietary levels of copra and palm meals did not affect carcass weight, back fat thickness, and rib-eye areas. Marbling scores and meat quality grades were lower in T3 than in T1 and T2; however, those differences were not statistically significant. Meat color, fat color, texture, and maturity were similar among the treatment groups. In addition, dietary levels of copra and palm meals did not affect the chemical and fatty acid composition of longissimus dorsi muscles in Hanwoo steers. Thus, the present results indicate that high supplementation levels of copra and palm meals do not negatively affect the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of Hanwoo steers.

        The safety management of feeds has become a very important factor for food safety and legislation and system improvement are being implemented to prevent the hazardous factors from livestock products. The range of heavy metals in feed hazardous factors was similar among countries, but the As maximum limit was strengthened in Korea compared to China. Regulation of residual pesticide and radioactivity was only controlled in Korea. The range and maximum limit of mycotoxin were strictly controlled in China compared to Korea. In order to enhance the feed safety in Korea, it is necessary to improve the policy, strengthen the range of the feed hazard and the maximum limit and carry out the research related to the feed safety.

        본 연구의 목적은 뇌 영상 기술을 활용한 정서 연구를 근거로 기본정서 이론을 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 기능적 자기공명영상(functional magnetic resonance imaging, f MRI) 연구들에 대한 메타분석을 수행했다. 기본정서 이론을 확인하기 위해 즐거움, 행복, 공포, 분노, 혐오, 슬픔의 6개 개별정서를 선정했다. 개별정서의 f MRI 자료를 수집하기 위해 최근 10년간 289편의 f MRI 연구를 조사했으며, 이중에서 69편이 포함 기준을 충족시켰다. 6개 정서에 대해서 건강한 피험자들을 대상으로 실험한 f MRI 자료를 수집했으며, Talairach 또는 MNI 표준 좌표로 보고된 연구만을 포함시켰다. Talairach와 MNI 좌표 체계간의 차이를 없애기 위해 Talairach 좌표를 기준으로 분석하였다. 활성화 가능성추정(ALE) 기법을 이용한 GingerALE 2.3 프로그램을 사용하여 메타분석을 수행했다. 연구 결과 기본정서 이론의 관점에서 개별정서들이 일관되고 구별 가능한 국부적인 뇌 반응과 관련 된다는 것을 확인했다. 각각의 개별 정서들과 관련된 뇌 반응 영역에 대한 본 연구의 결과는 선행연구들의 결과와 대체로 일치하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 일반화에 있어서 극복해야 할 제한점을 기술하고 후속 연구에 대해 몇 가지를 제언하였다.

        본 연구는 반추동물용 섬유질배합사료(TMR) 제조업체 의 사료안전관리 인식 및 사료 중 위해인자 오염도를 조사 하기 위해 138개소 TMR 제조시설을 대상으로 약 10개월 동안 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조사표는 총 17개 문항으로 구성하였으며, 얻어진 자료는 기술통계분석, 교차분석 및 신뢰도 검정을 통해 분석하였다. TMR 제조시설의 평균 일 일 생산능력은 81.38톤 이었다. 평균 개업연도는 2004년 및 종사인원은 13.7명이었고, 유통경로는 직접거래가 80.4%로 가장 많았다. 사료안전관리 시스템 도입은 사료안전관리의 제도적 여건이 조성된 후 도입이 필요하다는 인식이 주를 이루었으며, 사료안전관리 시스템 구축을 위해서는 사료안 전정보 제공 및 공유가 가장 필요한 조건으로 나타났다. 사료안전성 및 위해물질 관리에 가장 취약한 분야는 곰팡 이 독소인 것으로 조사되었으며, 사료 제조과정에서 가장 위험한 위해인자는 쇠, 파편, 흙 등과 같은 이물질로 나타 났다. 사료 중 위험인자 오염도 조사에서 카드뮴, 비소 및 셀레늄은 허용기준치를 초과한 제품이 일부 조사되었고, 오크라톡신류 및 아플라톡신류는 허용범위내로 조사되었 다. 잔류농약, BSE, 푸모니신 및 살모넬라는 검출되지 않았 으며, 멜라민 및 비단백태질소화합물은 각각 11.35ppm 및 5%로 최댓값을 나타냈다. 규모별 TMR 제조시설의 사료 내 위해인자 오염도는 규모별로 차이가 많았으며, 같은 규 모 내에서도 제조시설에 따라 위해인자의 검출량이 다르 게 나타났다. 또한 소규모에 비해 중규모 및 대규모에서 위해인자 검출량이 더 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 따라서 본 조사결과 TMR 제조시설의 사료안전관리 시스템을 구축하 기 위해서는 사료안전에 대한 정보제공 및 공유가 정책적 으로 제도화되어야 하고, 사료 내 발생하는 곰팡이 독소방 지 및 이물질 제거를 위한 사료관리법의 강화와 원료 공급 처에서 이물질을 제거할 수 있는 장치 도입을 의무화할 필 요가 있다고 판단된다.

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the moisture content and pellet mill type on the physical and chemical characteristics of Italian ryegrass (IRG) pellet. Moisture content of raw material significantly (p<0.05) affected IRG pellet formation. Moisture content at 25% was the best condition for IRG pellet formation in terms of shape, power load and temperature changes. The hardness of pellet was decreased when moisture content was increase. However, the hardness of pellet was not affected by pellet mill type. Moisture content at 30% dramatically (p<0.05) decreased the durability compared to moisture content at 25%. Dry matter content of IRG pellet was increased (p<0.05) after pelleting. Total count of microorganism was decreased in pellet due to pressure heat and moisture losses during the pelleting process. These results indicated that the proper moisture content of Italian ryegrass pelleting would be at 25%. In addition, Roll & flat die type would be more suitable than Ring die and Die & flat die type in IRG pelleting. Pelleting works would be beneficial for improving forage quality and long storage.

        본 연구의 목적은 다층자료 매개효과의 분석 방법을 제안하는 것이다. 연구내용은 다층자료 매개효과의 통계방법 탐색, 분석절차 제안, 그리고 분석의 실례 제시 등 세 가지다. 첫째, MLM (multilevel modeling)과 MSEM (multilevel structural equation modeling) 중에서 어떤 방법이 다층자료의 매개효과 분석에 유용한지 탐색하였다. MSEM은 MLM 의 약점을 극복한 것으로서 유용한 다층 매개효과 분석방법이었다. 둘째, 다층자료 매개효과의 분석절차를 연구모형설 정, 전제조건 검토, 모형검증, 계수검증의 4단계로 전개하였다. 셋째, 매개효과 분석의 실례에 사용된 자료는 2,695명의 초중등 학생과 88명의 학급교사로 구성되었다. 분석 실례로 2층→2층→1층과 1층→1층→2층 두 가지를 제시하였다. 2층→2층→1층과 1층→1층→2층 모형은 완전매개모형이 지지되었지만, 2층→2층→1층 모형의 매개효과 계수만 95% 신뢰구간에서 유의하였다. 분석 실례에 사용된 Mplus 프로그램은 부록에 제시하였다. 연구결과를 기초로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점, 그리고 후속연구의 방향이 논의되었다.

        21세기 초반 한국사회는 자본주의라는 이념의 토대 위에서 움직이는 시민 사회이고, 그 핵심 원리는 개인을 중심으로 하는 경쟁이다. 불교는 고립된 개인의 존재를 인정하지 않으면서 그가 지닌 이기심보다는 자비심과 협력에 주목하기 때문에 자본주의 이념과 대립적인 관계를 설정할 수밖에 없다. 한국불교가 자본주의와 만날 수 있는 길은 두 가지이다. 하나는 대립관계 를 유지하면서 지속적인 저항담론으로서의 성격을 유지하는 것이고, 다른 하나는 자본주의적 질서를 일정 부분 수용하면서 그것이 지니는 역기능을 완화시키는 것이다. 그런데 현재 조계종단을 중심으로 하는 한국불교계는 이 둘 중 어느 하나도 제대로 해내지 못하면서 자본주의와의 만남 과정에서 지속적인 문제를 노출시키고 있다. 이러한 문제를 극복하고 한국불교가 자본주의와의 만남에서 할 수 있고 또 해야 할 일을 다음과 같은 세 차원으로 나누어 제안해 볼 수 있다. 첫째는 한국 자본주의가 처한 상황을 있는 그대로 성찰할 수 있는 대안적 관점을 적 극적으로 제시하는 여실지견(如實知見)의 지혜를 제시하는 것이고, 둘째는 자본주의적 일상에 지친 사람들을 위한 위로와 치유의 방안을 지속적으로 제시하는 것이며, 마지막은 자본주의 사회구조에 대응할 수 있는 새로운 불 교 사회이념을 제안하는 일이다. 마지막 방안은 연기적 관계성을 기반으로 하면서도 각자 삶의 영역이 지니는 고유성과 존엄성을 훼손하지 않는 연기 적 독존(緣起的獨尊)의 이념으로 구체화될 수 있다.

        The feed value of Astragalus membranaceus leaves and straws was amended by fermentation using effective microorganisms, such as molasses (T1), Rhodobacter capsulatus (T2), Bacillus subtilis (T3), Lactobacillus acidophilus (T4), or Saccharomyces cerevisiae (T5), with no supplements in the control (C). The crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) contents in the fermentation-treated A. membranaceus leaves decreased, whereas nitrogen free extract (NFE) content increased significantly. A decrease in the amounts of CP (except in T3), EE, CF, NDF, and ADF in the A. membranaceus straws treated with effective microorganisms was observed compared with that for the C and T1 (p<0.05). The NFE content of the straws increased with all treatments, except T1. Fermentation treatment subtly altered the fatty acid composition of A. membranaceus leaves and straws. In contrast, the calcium and vitamin E contents in A. membranaceus leaves and straws were increased after fermentation treatment (p<0.05). However, T3 yielded higher saponin content in straws compared to that by any of the other treatments (p<0.05). The effect of fermentation with microorganisms, maintained the low pH up to 48 h (p<0.05), whereas it was random for the straws. Therefore, the data suggest that fermentation treatment with microorganisms can improve digestion rate and have a positive effect on physiologically active substances and feed value.

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of moisture content on the physical and chemical characteristics of Italian ryegrass cube. Cube quality according to moisture contents (15, 20, 25, and 30%) was determined. Cubes made with 15 to 20% moisture showed a little cracks. But, the amount of powder generate from these cubes were lower by 10 to 16% compared to other cubes made with 25 to 30% moisture contents. The highest hardness at 159 kg/f was obtained when the cube was made with 15% moisture content and the lowest was 70 kg/f when the cube was made with 30% moisture content. The electrical loading and surface temperature were increased when moisture content was decreased. The chemical compositions of cube were differ from those of raw materials. Crude protein (CP) and ether extract (EE) contents were increased after cubing works. However, crude fiber (CF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents were decreased after cubing. The crude ash content was not significantly (p > 0.05) different between raw material and cube. Higher moisture content resulted in higher crude protein content. However, crude fiber and crude ash content were not significantly (p > 0.05) different between each other. The contents of ADF and NDF were the lowest in cubes made with 30% moisture content. Our results suggest that the proper moisture content of Italian ryegrass cubing is recommended to be 15 to 20% and that cubing works should help increase forage quality.

        This study was conducted to determine the growth performance and carcass characteristics of fattening Hanwoo heifers slaughtered at different ages. Twenty one Hanwoo heifers were randomly allocated to three groups (32, 36 and 40 months age), with 7 steers each, respectively. In the result, initial and final body weights were 125.6 and 651.0 kg, respectively. Average daily gain was significantly low at final stage compared with other growth stages (p<0.05). Dry matter intake was the peak at the intermediate fattening stage (p<0.05). The feed conversion ratio was significantly lower at growing stage compared to other stages (p<0.05). In yield traits, carcass weight was greater in 40 months age group compared to other groups (p<0.05). Yield index was greater in 32 months group compared to 40 months of age (p<0.05). Marbling score, meat color, fat color, texture, and maturity were not different among groups (p>0.05). However, marbling score tended to be increased in 40 months age group (5.9) compared to other groups. The appearance rate (%) of meat quality grade more than 1+ was greater at 40 months old group than other groups.
