        Human growth hormone (hGH), one of the most important hormones in medicine, is secreted from anterior pituitary gland. Its broad physiological function includes body growth, cell regeneration, increasement of muscle volume, bone density, body fat reduction, and so on. Due to the wide range of therapeutic effects, the hGH produced from E. coli has been commercialized already. In this study, we asked whether it is possible to produce recombinant hGH efficiently from various cultured mammalian cells. To meet this purpose, we chose a retrovirus vector system for transfer and expression of the hGH gene in various mammalian cells. Analyses of RT-PCR, ELISA, and Western blot to determine expression of the hGH gene showed the highest production of the hGH was determined from chicken embronic fibroblast (CEF) cells with the concentration of 8.58 μg/ml. The biological activity of the hGH was similar to the commercially available counterpart. These results suggest that mass production of hGH is possible not only in the E. coli but also in the various mammalian cells.

        TiAlN films were deposited on WC-5Co substrates with different buffer layers by D.C. magnetron sputtering. The films were evaluated by microstructural observations and measuring of preferred orientation, hardness value, and adhesion force. As a process variable, various buffer layers were used such as TiAlN single layer, TiAlN/TiAl, TiAlN/TiN and TiAlN/CrN. TiAlN coating layer showed columnar structures which grew up at a right angle to the substrates. The thickness of the TiAlN coating layer was about 1.8μm, which was formed for 200 minutes at 300˚. XRD analysis showed that the preferred orientation of TiAlN layer with TiN buffer layer was (111) and (200), and the specimens of TiAlN/TiAl, TiAlN/CrN, TiAlN single layer have preferred orientation of (111), respectively. TiAlN single layer and TiAlN/TiAl showed good adhesion properties, showing an over 80N adhesion force, while TiAlN/TiN film showed approximately 13N and the TiAlN/CrN was the worst case, in which the layer was destroyed because of high internal residual stress. The value of micro vickers hardness of the TiAlN single layer, TiAlN/TiAl and TiAlN/TiN layers were 2711, 2548 and 2461 Hv, respectively.

        모기기피제로 사용되고 있는 에어로졸제 4개, 액제 3개, 그리고 로션제 1개 제품에 대하여 흰줄숲모기(Aedes albopictus)와 빨간집모기(Culex pipiens pallens)의 기피력을 조사하고, 기피 주성분인 DEET의 함량을 분석하였다. 쥐를 대상으로 했을 때 흰줄숲모기는 빨간집모기에 비해 흡혈 공격력이 높았으며, 흡혈 대상으로는 쥐(mouse)보다 사람의 손을 더 선호하였다. 쥐를 이용한 모기기피제의 기피력 평가에서, C 제품, G 제품, H 제품이 높은 기피력을 나타냈다. 이들 기피제를 사람 손을 흡혈대상으로 평가한 결과, 3개 약제 모두 2시간 동안은 100%의 기피효과를 나타내었으나 그 이후는 떨어줬으며, C 제품이 효과가 좋았다. GC를 통한 DEET의 분석에서 8종 모기기피제의 내용물 100 g 중량 내 7.31 g에서 38.9 g으로 제품 내 다양한 함량을 나타내었으며, 제품 내 처리된 DEET의 함량과 기피력의 상관관계는 정비례하지 않았다. 면포를 이용한 DEET 잔존량 대비 모기 기피력 평가에서 DEET의 함량이 약 40% 이하로 떨어지면서 흰줄숲모기의 흡혈이 이루어지기 시작했다.

The striation of 'Kama' was especially peculier in the charms. The word of 'Kama' means hair striation of head and also means cooking kettle. Other charms related to food were also reviewed.

        There is the picture of four gods(四神圖) painted on the wall of old tomb of Koguryo dynasty in 4~5 century. Four gods in this picture were Symbolized by four animals, tortoise, tiger, ryong which is imaginative large Snake, and bong hwang which is also imaginative birds. Those animals wese believed at that time as protecting geities against all of the haman disaster and evils. The peoples of Kojosun dynasty carried those animal charms, and painted or graved on some where of living environment such as furniture, utensils, tools, wall, ceiling, etc. They ate those animals as food or medicine to treatment of all disieses and to get rid of evils and to gain well-being. A lot of examples in historical records were cited and interrelated to above super stitions.

        규모가 큰 지진이 발생함에 따라 발전소 내 비구조요소인 전기설비들이 전도등으로 인한 손상으로 제기능을 하지 못하는 사례가 있어 비구조요소의 고정부에 대한 내진성능평가가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 비구조요소의 고정부로 사용되는 후설치 앵커볼트 M10 사이즈를 대상으로 하였으며 균열 발생에 따른 성능을 비교하기 위해 인위적인 균열을 발생시켜 동적인발 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 실험은 ACI 355.2에 근거하여 정적인발성능 실험을 통해 구한 평균 최대하중의 50% 하중 10회, 37.5% 하중 30회, 25% 하중 100회 반복가력 후 정적성능시험을 수행하였다.

        Cell based grid data of future temperature and precipitation produced with four RCP scenarios were converted into polygon based data for administrative districts using three simple vectorizing methods; (1) KMA Dong-Nae forecast point based, (2) areal ratio based and (3) central point based methods. The results were compared the existed KMA areal weight based methods to identify which methods were more efficient than others. Simple statistical methods such descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient, and Bland & Altman plots (B&A) were used to compare agreements between them. When central point and areal ratio based methods were applied to administrative districts of Eup-Myeon-Dong or some Gus, NULLs were found because their sizes are smaller than the cell of 1x1 km. Therefore, KMA Dong-Nae forecast point based methods were better when sizes of administrative districts are smaller than the cell size. For Do and Metropolitan cities, there were no greater differences among methods except for the KMA Dong- Nae forecast points. The greater the areas of administrative districts the more distortions from the KMA Dong-Nae forecast points because only KMA Dong-Nae forecast one point were used for the calculation. In conclusion, the KMA Dong-Nae forecast point based method was appropriate when sizes of administrative districts are smaller than the grid cell. For the greater areal sizes such as Do and Metropolitan cities, areal ratio and central point based methods were better.

        The damage caused by the earthquake is not only the structural damage, but also the damage caused by the functional damage of the non - structural element. However, the criteria for seismic design for non - structural elements such as electrical panels are insufficient compared to those for seismic design for structural damage. In this study, the performance of the anchor bolt connecting between electric panel and concrete slabs installed in a power plant according to the occurrence of crack was investigated by experiment.

        If the MR fluid damper does not work, the magnetic powder (carbonyl iron powder) will sediment. To overcome this problem, we developed an EMR (Enhanced Magneto Rheological Fluid) fluid and evaluated control performance. For the dynamic load test using MR fluid and EMR fluid was conducted to evaluate control power and DR (Dynamic Range). In the damper performance test, the current was tested at intervals of 0.5A from 0.0A to 2.5A, and the control power of the EMR fluid was 84% compared to the control power of the MR fluid, The DR of the EMR Damper was 7.5. When the DR is 5.0 or higher, it is generally used as a semi-active control device. Therefore, the EMR fluid has proved its usability as a semi-active control device by showing 7.5 DR to 76% control performance of existing MR damper.

        This paper has identified detailed climate types and their geographical extents in the Republic of Korea using MK (Modified Korean)-PRISM (Parameter-elevation Regression on Independent Slopes Model) 1×1km high-resolution grid climate data and Trewartha climate classification. When considering 60 ASOS (The Automated Synoptic Observing Systems) stations, only four climate types were identified over South Korea. Three climate types, Dca (52%), Doa (28%) and Cfa (18%), were prevalent while Dcb type was only located at Daegwallyeong. When based on a high-resolution grid climate data, six climate types were identified including Dob and E types which were not detected with ASOS stations. High-resolution grid climate data reflected better and detailed geographical characteristics. Areas occupied by Cfa climate types were located along the narrow southern and Jeju coastal areas, dedicating only 6.9% of South Korea. Trewartha climate classification was also applied to 1km×1km RCP scenarios. The most distinct feature of future climate changes based on RCPs was a larger expansion of Cfa and Doa types with a drastic reduction of Dca and Dcb, indicating that a warmer and wetter climate would be prevalent over South Korea in the latter period of this century. Even for RCP2.6, all the coastal areas, some of Seoul metropolitan area, a large part of Daegu and Gwangju metropolitan areas would be classified as Cfa. For RCP8.5, 51.5% of South Korea would be occupied by the Cfas and 25.1% by the Doas, leaving only 23.2% of Dcas.

        This study was conducted to investigate farmers’ satisfaction in organic farming technologies developed by the Rural Development Administration (RDA). The survey targeted farmers who were eco-friendly or interested in eco-friendly agriculture. 70% of the target farmers were doing eco-friendly farming, and the satisfaction rate of the technology developed by the RDA was 3.85 points. The satisfaction of the farmers who participated in demonstration and demonstration of the farming field of the developed technology was 4.00 and the satisfaction level of organic farming instruction manual was 3.95. In addition, 38.4% of the surveyed areas were found to be pest control areas, and the impacts on the satisfaction of the organic cultivation related technology utilization and the satisfaction of the organic cultivation guide were analyzed. As a result, the RDA needs to develop and supply customized technology for aged small farmers.

        Frequent unstable natural disasters worldwide in recent year caused damage to large power plants, high-rise buildings, dams and public facilities, resulting in a growing sense of anxiety among people. This is result in the increase of concern for the safety of residential as well as public infrastructure. Considering this growing concern for the public infrastructure a systematic safety evaluation is require. Thus, in this paper, the fragility of weir structure by considering the scour effect of flood was the focused of study. The weir structure in this study was located in Daegu city; it served as the power and water supply and flood prevention. The study was performed by conducting penetration analysis on the variables of the adjacent ground.

        Persistent Extreme Temperature Events (PETEs) are defined in two steps; first, to define extreme temperature events, the 80th and 20th percentiles of daily maximum and minimum temperature were chosen. Then individual PETE was defined as an event which lasted three or longer consecutive extreme temperature days. In this study, we examined characteristics and changes of PETEs in Republic of Korea (ROK) using 14 weather stations with a relatively long-term period of data, 1954-2016. In ROK, PETEs lasted four-five days on average and occurred two-three times a year. PETEs lasted longer in summer than in winter and in maximum temperature than in minimum temperature. PETEs which lasted greater than seven days account for a greater proportion in summer than in winter. However, intensities of PETEs were greater in winter because of a larger temperature fluctuation. In both summer and winter, durations and intensities of persistent extreme high temperature events increased while those of persistent extreme low temperature events decreased. Changes of PETEs were closely related with both global warming and diverse large-scale climate variabilities such as AO, NAO and Nino 3.4.

        The occurrence and management of disease and pests in six organic peach orchards were surveyed from March 2015 to March 2017. In this period, the number of certified organic and non-chemical peach farms increased to 65.5% and 31.7%, respectively. Certified organic peach farms were selected based on more than 4,000 ㎡ of cultivation area and three tons of production, and their cultivation status was examined. All of the farms were either cultivated green manure crop or sod, and limited vegetation control to a minimum. For the management of soil nutrients, many farmers used livestock manure, oilcake and self-manufacturing liquid fertilizer. It was surveyed that bordeaux mixture, lime sulfur, pheromone for mating disruption of moths and plant extract were used for disease and pest control. The damage caused by the pests and diseases were 31.6% and 24.1%, respectively. The oriental fruit moth showed the highest damage rate (13.5%) in the organic peach orchards, followed by the brown rot (13.0%), peach fruit moth (7.3%) and bacterial shot hole (7.3%).

        본 연구는 유기농경지의 지속가능한 토양양분관리를 위해 유기농가의 자재의존도와 자 재에 의한 토양 특성변화를 알아보기 위하여 2016년 3월부터 6월까지 10년 이상 유기농을 실천한 토양의 화학적 특성과 함께 유기농가의 토양 관리를 위해 사용한 자재의 종류를 조 사하였다. 그 결과 유기농가에서는 토양 양분관리를 위해 주로 자가제조퇴․ 액비 및 시판자 재를 사용하고 있어 외부 투입자재의 사용빈도가 높음을 알 수 있었다. 그 중 57%는 가축 분뇨가 포함된 자재를 이용하여 토양관리를 하고 있었고 자재 성분분석 결과 가축분의 구 성 비율에 따라 자재의 성분함량이 다양하게 나타났다. 토양분석결과 10년 이상 유기농재 배를 한 지점의 양분함량은 대체로 높은 경향을 보였으며 농가에서 주로 사용하는 자재에 따라 토양 화학성이 차이가 나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히 가축분퇴비를 주로 사용하는 농 가는 교환성 칼슘과 칼륨이 과잉 존재하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 시판자재 분석결과 부숙유 기질비료는 가축분의 종류와 비율에 따라 성분함량 차이가 크게 나타났다. 이러한 외부투 입자재에 의존한 토양관리는 토양 내 양분 불균형을 야기할 수 있다. 토양 내 양분 불균형 은 작물 생산성을 악화시키고 환경오염의 우려가 있어 농가 및 연구현장에서 이를 개선하 기 위한 노력이 필요하다. 농가수준에서 토양 양분관리를 위해 사용하기 용이한 시판 부숙 유기질비료의 성분함량을 고려한 신중한 투입이 필요하며, 또한 이러한 유기농경지에서의 양분 불균형 해소를 위해 집적된 양분의 이용률을 증대시키는 방안에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

        The upland soils (56 samples) from organic farms in Gyeonggi-do (12 sites), Gangwon-do (8 sites), Chungcheong-do (14 sites), Gyeongsang-do (4 sites), Jeollado (18 sites) in Korea were collected and their physical and chemical properties were analyzed by RDA’s methods. In the results of physical property, the bulk density of soils averaged 1.14 Mg m-3 (surface soil), 1.38 Mg m-3 (subsoil), respectively. The porosity of them was 57%, 48%. Organically managed soil’s (OS) bulk density was lower than conventional soil’s but OS’s porosity was a little higher than conventionally managed soil in surface soil. The depth of plough layer in organically managed soils was 21.2 cm indicating that the organic farming had good effect on soil physical property. In the results of chemical property, the surface soil pH was 6.9 and the contents of organic matter (OM) was 26 g kg-1, available phosphate (Avail. P2O5) was 554 mg kg-1, exchangeable calcium (Exch. Ca) was 8.9 cmolc kg-1, exchangeable potassium (Exch. K) was 0.89 cmolc kg-1, exchangeable magnesium (Exch. Mg) was 2.0 cmolc kg-1. The subsoil pH was 6.8 and the contents of OM was 21 g kg-1, avail. P2O5 was 491 mg kg-1, exch. Ca was 7.9 cmolc kg-1, exch. K was 0.68 cmolc kg-1, exch. Mg was 1.8 cmolc kg-1. The nutrient accumulation emerged in organic farming. Compared to the optimum nutrient range for the conventional upland soils, the exceed rate of pH, OM, available phosphate, and exchangeable Ca, K, and Mg was 79, 52, 64, 84, 66% and 55%, respectively, which mainly resulted from the over-application of lime materials or livestock manure compost. With these results it is suggested thatorganic farm need to reduce the use of inputs, which make soil alkalification or nutrient accumulation. More study on effects of inputs on lowering soil pH from alkalification could help organically managed soil to be improved.

        In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of summer extreme rainfall over South Korea and their relationships with the synoptic and large-scale circulation anomalies during 1979-2014. Heavy rainfall (R90p) is related with the strong convection surrounded by dry zone over Korean peninsula and the moist air delivered from the convection area over Bay of Bengal-South China Sea-Philippine Sea. The upper-level anticyclonic flow with the low-level dipole of anticyclonic circulation in the Southeast and cyclonic circulation to the northwest of Korean peninsula are the main characteristics when the extreme rainfall occurs. The barotropic Rossby wave developed over the Korean peninsula transfers its energy farther downstream to the western coast of North America. It is also found that the dominant lowfrequency oscillation over the tropics (intraseasonal oscillation) play an important background role for the enhancement of extreme rainfall over South Korea.
