        This study is to investigate the effect of material for GPF on the PM reduction characteristics before the improvement of filter efficiency in GPF. The material of GPF was changed to ceramic and metal. The ceramic material was applied to SiC, and the metal materials were employed to STS 310s, STS 316s, and STS 410s. The number of honeycomb and wall thickness were set to 200CPSI, 0.3987mm, respectively. The inlet mass flow was fixed at 0.00695kg/s. The inlet air temperature was changed from 500K(0s∼350s) to 1000K(400s∼900s). It was found that the differences in loading amount according to the GPF materials were difficult to observe because the pore density and porosity were set to be the same to affect only the mechanical properties. STS 310s with the highest temperature value had the fastest regeneration time. However, as time goes on, SiC had the highest regeneration rate characteristics. The reason is that the high-temperature region in the GPF by the high-temperature exhaust gas was rapidly transferred toward the outlet due to the high thermal conductivity of SiC.

        In this paper, the combustion characteristics of constant volume combustion chamber(CVCC) were experimentally investigated when biodiesel is mixed with pure gasoline. The experiment was performed on two gasoline biodiesel samples designated by GB05 and GB20 which is mixed with 5% and 20% biodiesel respectively. It was confirmed that the ignition delay time decreases as the temperature of injection engine increases due to ignition delay. Also, it was shown that the ignition delay time decreases as the biodisel mixing ratio increases from 5% to 20%.

        The effect of EGR on fuel economy was investigated in a gasoline direct injection engine. The 1-D cycle simulation program of GT-Power was utilized to evaluate fuel consumption rate. At high load, fuel consumption increased by about 2~6% according to EGR rate. Knock mitigation was the main effects, gaining about 80% of the total fuel consumption improvement. At low load, fuel consumption reduction was 0.6~2%, which was much lower than that for high load. The lower improvement of fuel consumption at low load is attributed to solely dilution and chemical effects of exhaust gas.

        Emissions of hazardous substances in automobiles are caused by combustion of internal combustion engines, friction of brake pads and tire wear. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the harmful substances emitted in internal combustion engine by using HHO gas. In order to reduce the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, HHO gas having excellent combustion characteristics was added to the combustion chamber. The HHO gas generator was installed in the intake line and the HHO gas was introduced into the combustion chamber with the mixed gas through the intake line. At this time, we compared and analyzed the performance of the engine performance on the presence and absence of HHO gas.

        The test was done on cars travelling at the speeds of 20km/h, 60km/h and 100km/h using the performance testing mode for chassis dynamometer. In this test, the secondary ignition waveform, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption were measured in case of faulty MAP sensor, faulty oxygen sensor and spark plugs. The following results from the related analysis of secondary waveform, emission and fuel consumption measurements were obtained : 1) The fuel consumption was higher in the order of oxygen sensor trouble, MAP trouble, spark plug trouble, before maintenance and after maintenance. Maximum fuel economy is 9.3km/L, the minimum fuel economy is 3.2km/L, the difference between max. and min. is 65.5%. 2) If you compare the oxygen sensor trouble with after maintenance, the CO has improved an average of 98%, fuel economy average of 60%. And the HC has improved an average of 87%, fuel economy average of 60%. The fuel consumption and exhaust gas was bad in the order of oxygen sensor trouble, MAP trouble and S/P trouble.

        The effect of gasoline-ethanol blends on performance and NOx emission was investigated in a SI engine with port and direct fuel injection systems. The 1-D cycle simulation program of GT-Power was utilized to analyze the performance of thermodynamic cycle. The results showed that the brake torques are increased with the addition of ethanol to gasoline because of the improvements of volumetric efficiency. The engine with direct ethanol blends injection system has more power than that with port gaoline injection system, which is caused by the higher latent heat of ethanol.

        The two experiments of gasoline vehicle using eco-friendly treatment(Ecoburn) were completed. The experiments was done on traveling using the performance testing mode for chassis dynamometer and road driving test. The experiments were employed to measure exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. In this experiment, the correlation between CO₂and fuel consumption were found in gasoline vehicle. The following results are obtained by analyzing the data relativity between exhaust emissions and additives. 1) If the value of exhaust emissions such as CO, HC, NOX, CO₂were improved as gasoline mixed additives at th ratio of 300:1. The value of fuel consumption were worse compare to those of exhaust emission. The improvement of resulting data value was best CO, HC, NOX and fuel consumption in the order named. 2) The value of CO₂ were to be nearly proportional to the fuel consumption value.

        The two experiments were done on stationary car at 800rpm, 1500rpm and running car on oscilloscope and chassis dynamometer at the speeds of 20km/h, 60km/h. In this experiment, the relativity between waveform, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption through two experimental methods were measured in case of cars with failures in MAP sensor, O sensor, spark plugs. The following results are obtained by analyzing the data relativity between two experimental methods, such as stationary and running tests. A simple stationary test under the maintenance of a decrepit gasoline vehicle would be realistic possibility to predict the fuel consumption and the exhaust emission comparable to results of running test with a chassis dynamometer.

        The experiment was carried out during no-load condition for analysis of the relativity between MAP, hot film, oxygen, the secondary ignition and injector waveform. The experimental methods using oscilloscope were employed to measure waveform. The relativity between several waveform and the secondary waveform coming from ignition coil were measured in case of three decrepit vehicles. From these results, a summary of the important results are as follows. 1. Through fast acceleration experiments, the response time values of hot film sensor and oxygen sensor was faster than the those of the MAP sensor and oxygen sensor. 2. The values of spark line duration time was largest A, C, B type in the order named. And discharge energy of the secondary ignition waveform was largest A, B, C type 3. The value of effective discharge energy is to be nearly proportional to the spark line duration time. 4. The value of effective discharge energy directly increases as revolutions per minute increase, and the value of spark line duration time decreases as revolutions per minute increase.

        This research aims to develop parts for Advanced Fuel/Oil Filtering Re- circulation applicable to this kind of regulation proof engines. These parts can play a role of converting traditional air emission type crankcase into recovery type crankcase so that the engine can deal with environmental regulations, which do not allow minimal amount of toxic gas discharge. For the experiment, test method and specially made testing equipment are prepared. The results showed that Oil separation efficiency of the Cyclone type crank case oil separator was higher than one of the partition wall type in bench test and that Emission gas of the cyclone type oil separator was higher than one of the partition wall type in vehicle test.

        On cold start operation of an SI engine, a catalyst shows poor performance before it reaches activation temperature. Therefore, fast warmup of the catalyst is very crucial to reduce harmful emissions. In this study, an appropriate control strategy is investigated to increase exhaust gas temperature through changes of spark timing. Combustion stability is also considered at the same time. Exhaust gas temperature and pressure of combustion chamber are measured to investigate the effects of spark timings on cold start and idle performance. Experiments showed that retarded spark timing promotes the combustion at the end of expansion stroke and increases exhaust gas temperature during cold start.

        The studied results of the gasohol, which is the mixture of gasoline and ethanol, were investigated for the promotion of applications on commercially by gasoline vehicle referring to octane number, minimum water contents be involved, and separation inhibitors for protecting phase separation etc. especially for the E10 and E20. The results showed that octane number will be revised by higher value as the ethanol is added more, and it's more effect in case of be added as a mixture than individually when inhibition agents is added for the inhibition of separation. and it's reasonable for the water contents of less than 1% by comparing with experimental results and in view of regulations of various countries.

        In a bi-fuel engine using gasoline and LPG fuel, with the current ignition timing for gasoline being used, the optimum performance could not be taken in LPG fuel supply mode. The ignition timing in LPG fuel mode must be advanced much more than that of gasoline mode for the compensation of its higher ignition temperature. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the ignition spark timing conversion influences the engine performance of LPG/Gasoline Bi-Fuel engine. In order to investigate the engine performance during combustion, engine performance are sampled by data acquisition system, for example cylinder pressure, pressure rise rate and heat release rate, while change of the rpm(1500, 2000, 2500) and the ignition timing advance(5°, 10°, 15°, 20°). As the result, between 1500rpm, 2000rpm and 2500rpm, the cylinder pressure and pressure rise rate was increased when the spark ignition was advanced but pressure rise rate at 20° was smaller value.

        A burning principle in gasoline engine is the one of being burned, by which a mixer in air and gasoline enters a combustion chamber and causes a spark in the proper timing. This is formed, by which ECU controls the fuel-injection volume and the fuel-injection timing, and determines the performance of engine. The purpose of this study is to test the characteristics on knocking in gasoline engine with the knocking-sensor equipment and to research into the characteristics in knocking while directly controling the optimal igniting timing and the fuel-injection timing through engine ECU. Given controlling ECU by grasping the characteristics in knocking, which becomes the most problem in the engine tuning market, the tuning in a true sense will be formed in gasoline engine.
