Hydroforming is a forming technology in which a steel tube is fixed in a die and formed to fit a specified design shape by applying hydraulic pressure from inside the tube. In present study, the whole process of sub-frame side member development is presented by tube hydro-forming using steel material. At the part design stage, it requires feasibility study and process design aided by CAE (computer aided design) to confirm hydro-formability in details. Overall possibility of hydro-formable side member parts could be examined by cross sectional analyses. All the components is designed and formability is examined from the point of geometry and thinning. From the simulation results, the maximum thickness reduction rate is 55% after hydroforming. In order to improve this result, the feeding by 30 mm is applied to the both sides of the tube and the thickness reduction can be reduced from this management.

Among various materials, FCD500 is widely used in various fields of automobile components as it allows mass production through casting and its mechanical property is excellent. However, there are many problems in industry due to the fact that despite the wide use of FCD500, the researches about manufacture property of FCD500 are insufficient. Thus, this study conducted research on cutting manufacture property of FCD500, which is the most common manufacture method of FCD500 to suggest optimized tool and cutting condition. To achieve this, the study examined the change in cutting property based on tool material based on the most commonly used CVD(Chemical Vapor Deposition) coating tool and CBN tool, and examined the changes in cutting property by the form of CVD coating tool. The study measured cutting force, surface roughness of material after cutting, and amount of tool wear to examine the cutting property. The study gave variation in cutting speed of 280m/min and 500m/min, and fixed the feed rate and cutting depth for cutting condition to evaluate the changes by cutting speed.

This paper presents the novel observation model, called Modified Spherical Signature Descriptor(MSSD), capable of representing 2D image generated from 3D point cloud data. The Modified Spherical Signature Descriptor has a uniform mesh grid to accumulate the occupancy evidence caused by neighbor point cloud data. According to a kind of area such as wall, road, tree, car, and so on, the evidence pattern of 2D image looks so different each other. For the parameter learning of Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) layers, these 2D images were applied as the input layer. The Convolutional Neural Network, one of the deep learning methods and familiar with the image analysis, was utilized for the urban structure classification. The case study on CNN practice was introduced in detail in this paper. The simulation results shows that the classification accuracy of CNN with 2D images of the proposed MSSD was improved more than the traditional methods' one.

The most time consuming job in the sheet metal forming process is compensating for springback. Factors such as uneven material properties and process conditions generate noise, which in turn create springback. The springback is very sensitive to the process and noise conditions, and the main effects of the design variables cannot be obtained from mean analysis. Therefore, to achieve minimal springback, an effective design countermeasure must be put in place to reduce noise effects. In this study, two robust design methods to achieve minimal springback in U-channel forming, including compensation process, are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is shown with an example of the sidewall curl springback. The proposed methods consistently outperform our previous work, indicating that the complex method is more preferable to the mean analysis, if there is no evidence of additivity of effects.

A numerical approach for ventilated disc brake with holes is carried out to investigate the effect of holes on the heat transfer characteristics. The numerical simulation code STAR-CCM+ is utilized to calculate flow and temperature fields with polyhedral meshes. The steady state results show that the holes make the flow velocity on the outer surface increasing, which induce the improvement of convective heat transfer on the outer surface. In the ventilated channel with holes, the convective heat transfer can be reduced due to the inflow of hot air through holes. In unsteady state, the disc has reached the highest temperature in 1,8s since the brake was engaged. The surface of disc without holes has maximum temperatures along the ventilated channels, while the surface temperatures of dis with holes are uniform.

The subway is a common transportation system accessed by over 8 million people on a daily basis in Metropolitan Seoul area. The subway ventilation system located on a street occupies a large area of walkways which cause inconvenience to the public. In this paper, approaches to reduce the ventilation sitting area on the pathway are examined. 5 different preliminary models of ventilation systems are analyzed to minimize the pathway obstacle area such that the public may have an easy access to pass by on the street. The amount of the air ventilation is predicted using the CFD software to ensure an efficient ventilation. The ventilation performance is verified by theory and numerical analysis. The result shows that one of the proposed model combined with the hybrid ventilation satisfies the regulation requirement of the air quantities. We may conclude that the proposed ventilation design provides a smooth walking environment to the public while the ventilation volume is maintained to the existing ventilation system with no modification of the current ventilation holes and structures.

Energy saving in household refrigerators becomes more important as the usage of household refrigerators have been increasing every year. Since a compressor in the refrigerator consumes more than 80% of its total energy, it is necessary to reduce the energy consumption of the compressor. In this paper, the convective heat transfer coefficients on the compressor housing for both natural convection and forced convection were measured. Then, the effect of convective heat transfer coefficient on the power consumption of a refrigerator was investigated using a thermal management analysis. The results showed that convective heat transfer coefficient for forced convection is higher by 7.8 W/m²K compared to the natural convection. In addition, through the thermal management analysis, it was found that the increase in convective heat transfer coefficient reduces the refrigerator power by about 4.8% improving EER by 0.9%.

The non-reacting flow field and the movement of sand particles inside a 30MW circulating fluidized bed combustor is numerically simulated via the finite volume method. The primary air is supplied through 23x23 array of nozzles located on the bottom and the secondary air is supplied through 12 inlet pipes located on the side walls. The steady state velocity field shows that a very complex flow pattern is formed in the lower part of the combustor. As the gas moves upward, the velocity magnitude decreases and the gas exits the combustor after hitting the top wall. To investigate the behavior of sand particles with different diameters, a particle tracking calculation is performed by introducing sand particles continuously at the z=3 m plane. For the given air flow rate condition, sand particles smaller than 0.3 mm show a complex movement pattern near the secondary air inlet and then rise toward the outlet.

In this paper, we study the effect of cooling dehumidification process and wave heat exchanger on the reduction of white smoke and the efficiency by combination of heat exchanger with numerical analysis method. For this purpose, four types of heat exchange systems combined with 5-stage wave heat exchangers were selected to analyze the heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchange system in the winter condition. As the high temperature exhaust air flowed from HX 1 to HX 5, the final outlet temperatures of the four heat exchange systems(Cases 1, 2, 3 and 4) gradually decreased. The heat transfer rate and dehumidification amount were the best in Case 1 and Case 3, respectively. It can be seen that the heat flow in the heat exchanger is different according to the combination of the four kinds of wave heat exchanger and the fluid flow.

The effect of EGR on fuel economy was investigated in a gasoline direct injection engine. The 1-D cycle simulation program of GT-Power was utilized to evaluate fuel consumption rate. At high load, fuel consumption increased by about 2~6% according to EGR rate. Knock mitigation was the main effects, gaining about 80% of the total fuel consumption improvement. At low load, fuel consumption reduction was 0.6~2%, which was much lower than that for high load. The lower improvement of fuel consumption at low load is attributed to solely dilution and chemical effects of exhaust gas.

A theoretical model has been studied to describe the sound radiation analysis for a railway under the action of harmony line moving forces. When a railway is analyzed, it had been modeled as curved beams with distributed springs and dash-pots that represent the radial, tangential stiffness and damping of rail, respectively. The reaction due to fluid loading on the vibratory response of the curved beam is taken into account. The curved beam is assumed to occupy the plane y=0 and to be axially infinite. The curved beam material and elastic foundation are assumed to be lossless Bernoulli-Euler beam theory including a tension force(T), damping coefficient(C) and stiffness of foundation(Κ2) will be employed. The expression for sound power is integrated numerically and the results examined as a function of Mach number(M), wave-number ratio(γ) and stiffness factor(Ψ).

The capacitive sensors can be divided into two categories depending on their performance and intended use. First, high resolution sensors are commonly used in displacement and position monitoring applications where high precision, high stability, and low temperature drift are required. Often these sensors are used in process monitoring and closed loop feedback control systems. Second, proximity capacitive sensors are much cheaper and generally used for sensing the presence of parts or for counting applications. The following paper describes characteristics of capacitive sensor and application to the PZT nano and ball screw stage.

Since the encoder and resolver are expensive, it is difficult to apply it as a position sensor of a motor in a real industrial field. Optical position sensors, such as encoders and resolvers, are also difficult to mount because of their size and durability. Therefore, in order to solve these problems, we propose a system that uses a linear motor as a stator and a magnet plate as a mover, and a system that excludes a separate linear scale and uses two linear Hall sensors and permanent magnets to generate a conventional sine wave, A linear motor capable of detecting an absolute position and a movement position of a magnet, a control method thereof, and a technology development that can reduce a production cost by developing a position control system using a magnet mover that can improve stability and reliability.

The purpose of this study is to determine the stiffness of rubber of dynamic damper. This damper system reduces the steering wheel vibration caused by idling oscillation of the engine. Therefore, in order to measure the stiffness of the silicone rubber in the dynamic damper system, the material test of the silicone rubber was carried out. Using the measured stiffness, the FEM model of the dynamic damper system was constructed and the correlation by the experimental data was shown at an error of less than 2%. In addition, the dynamic damper system was simplified to a two-degree-of-freedom spring-mass model and the effect of the stiffness change of the rubber on the natural frequency of the column shaft was analyzed theoretically. As a result, the amplitude of the column shaft was reduced as the stiffness of the silicone rubber was lowered.

The objective of this study is to find the optimal size of splined shaft in IMS module. Two methods were used in this study. One is for the investigation of effect of indentation process on the tubular shaft yoke, and another is for the investigation of effect of indentation process on splined shaft. The spline outer size of splined shaft was increased from 0.00mm to 0.20mm. The simulation results were analyzed and compared in terms of under-fill, metal flow, effective strain, Von-mises stress and load characteristics. The indentation load was increased with increasing of spline size. However, in case of 0.15mm outer diameter increasing, the separation load was decreased. The case of 0.10mm diameter increasing was the best spline size based on the low indentation load and high separation load.
