        Automobiles are largely divided into passenger cars with less than five passengers and commercial vehicles such as construction machines, trucks, mixers, special lorries, and large buses. Automobile maintenance companies are also divided into passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Because commercial vehicles are the livelihood vehicles of individual carriers engaged in cargo transportation, passenger transportation, and construction, fast and accurate maintenance is important. Access to the expressway is also important because the car is large and uses highways. In addition, the time required for troubleshooting is long, so sufficient space must be secured for parking the vehicle, and ease of entry and exit of the vehicle in the maintenance shop should be fully considered. For this reason, commercial vehicle maintenance companies have higher initial investment costs than car maintenance companies, and it is difficult to supply and maintain maintenance personnel. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully examine and analyze various related factors for successful commercial vehicle maintenance company selection. However, most existing commercial vehicle maintenance companies often choose their location based on the empirical judgment of the founder, the customs and the case, without a clear analysis. In this study, we show how to derive the location selection factors to be considered when establishing professional maintenance company for commercial vehicles and to select the optimal location by using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method.

        Due to rapid industrialization and urbanization, maintenance of high voltage transmission lines in narrow alleys, complex roads, or old factory areas is required. Since the existing aerial lift vehicle is made of steel, there is a risk of electric shock. Therefore, there is a need for the development of an insulated aerial lift vehicle that can prevent electric shock accidents during electrical work. In particular, the development of an insulated aerial lift vehicle is required in a recent work environment where live line work is inevitable. The development of composite insulation boom for the vertical swing type aerial lift vehicle is studied. The insulated boom was developed by applying glass fiber-epoxy composite and filament winding process. The developed insulated boom was verified by measuring dielectric breakdown strength, surface resistance and volume resistance according to ASTM D149 and ASTM D257.

        Food trucks are not a new idea but the significant growth in the variety of foods served and the number of trucks operating means this retail option is becoming more important. The growth of this segment can be explained by McNair’s (1958) wheel of retailing theory which indicates that growth in retailing happens when new types of retailers with low startup costs, low capital and low prices enter the market – exactly what is occurring with food trucks entering the mature food retailing market. There has been limited academic research regarding the food truck industry. To better understand this retail segment and the factors influencing it, we conducted in-depth discussions with nine food truck owner/operators in the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions of the United States. The discussions with the food truck owner/operators indicated three critical areas: marketing, growth strategy, and legal issues. Technology was found to be vital to this retail segment with social media being used to promote the business and many vendors mentioned that apps like Square (which enables credit card payments) help them get additional sales when customers lack cash. These apps also helped the owner/operators manage some of the legal/regulatory issues associated with operating within different municipalities. Our in-depth discussions with the nine food truck vendors provided insight into the food truck business and helped refine our understanding of critical concerns of this growing industry.

        The investigation on the lightweight of automobiles has been underway in commercial vehicles as well as passenger cars due to global warming and strengthening of European emission standards. In this study, the V-arm were developed for lightweight parts using aluminum alloy instead of steel with high pressure die casting processing. This study has focused on lightweight adaptive concept design. Several models of V-arm were designed and analyzed for the fluidity and solidification. V-arm was produced with ADC12 by high pressure die-casting process. The mechanical properties of developed V-arm were measured; such as tensile strength, elongation, shear strength, and durability. The possibility of mass production with the light weight aluminum V-arm substitute from the steel. The weight was reduced about 38% from 16kg to 9.98kg. The productivity was improved with decreasing the process from 8 to 5 by All-in-0ne process using high pressure die-casting.

        푸드트럭 사업에 대한 우리나라 정부 및 지방자치단체의 기본 방침은 가능한 한 철저히 규제하여 그 영업을 최대한 제한하는 것이다. 하지만 푸드트럭 사업은 불법 상행위와 동일한 차원의 개념이 아니며, 오히려 지방경제와 주민복지의 차원에서 규제보다는 보완적인 대안을 찾고자 하는 노력이 필요하다. 하지만 이 러한 규제에도 불구하고 푸드트럭 사업을 선택하는 논리는 공식적인 경제영역에 대한 진입이 어려운 상황에서 비공식적 경제영역으로서의 푸드트럭 사업이 비교적 진입도 용이하고 이익도 초래할 수 있기 때문이다. 따라서 지방자치단체는 미국의 대도시 정부처럼 우선 푸드트럭 등록제와 실명제를 철저히 실시하여 푸드트럭 사업의 공식화를 도모하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 때로는 복지의 차원에서 빈곤층 주민의 푸드트럭 영업을 허용하는 방안도 필요하다. 정책 대안의 중요한 핵심은 푸드트럭 사업자와 정 부 및 지방자치단체의 경제적 이해관계를 일치시키는 것이다.

        This study dealt with truck crash performance evaluation of new guardrails made of PosMac steels considering the ground bearing capacity effect. Subsequent crash simulation results for SB2 and SB4 grades present that the developed model performs much better in containing and redirecting the impacting vehicle in a stable manner. In this paper, the existing finite element crash analysis of guardrails using the LS-DYNA program is further extended to study the nonlinear dynamic response of the guardrail structures with new type poles supported by external stiffeners. The numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing different grades with displacements occurred in the barrier from the crash simulation.

        A finite element simulation study was performed to determine influences of different post spaces and thicknesses of crash barriers on the dynamic behaviors due to truck crash. Accuracy of the simulation was verified using qualitative and quantitative comparisons. Based on in-depth examination of crash simulation recordings, energy distributions occurred in the barrier against the car are determined. In this paper, the existing finite element crash analysis of barriers using the LS-DYNA program is further extended to study the dynamic response of the barrier with various geometries of the guardrail. The numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing different models.

        PURPOSES : This study estimated the load effect of a single heavy truck to develop a live load model for the design and assessment of bridges located on an expressway with a limited truck entry weight. METHODS: The statistical estimation methods for the live load effect acting on a bridge by a heavy vehicle are reviewed, and applications using the actual measurement data for trucks traveling on an expressway are presented. The weight estimation of a single vehicle and its effect on a bridge are fundamental elements in the construction of a live load model. Two statistical estimation methods for the application of extrapolation in a probabilistic study and an additional estimation method that adopts the extreme value theory are reviewed. RESULTS : The proposed methods are applied to the traffic data measured on an expressway. All of the estimation methods yield similar results using the data measured when the weight limit has been relatively well observed because of the rigid enforcement of the weight regulation. On the other hand, when the estimations are made using overweight traffic data, the resulting values differ with the estimation method. CONCLUSIONS: The estimation methods based on the extreme distribution theory and the modified procedure presented in this paper can yield reasonable values for the maximum weight of a single truck, which can be applied in both the design and evaluation of a bridge on an expressway.

        미국 AASHTO LRFD(AASHTO, 2012)나 국내의 도로교설계기준(2012)의 차랑충돌에 대한 교각설계기준을 참조하면 교각 설계 시 차량충돌에 대해 정적인 하중을 고려하도록 제시하고 있다. 한편 2003년 미국 네브래스카 주에 트럭이 교각에 충돌하여 교각 및 교량 상부구조가 붕괴되는 사고가 발생하는 등 차량충돌에 의한 교량붕괴사고는 홍수에 의한 교량붕괴사고에 이은 두 번째 요인으로 분류되기도 한다. 화물차량의 대형화와 도로시스템의 개선으로 인하여 이러한 사고가 발생할 가능성이 중가하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 교각 설계시 차량충돌에 대한 동적 해석을 수행하게 되면 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되어 실용적인 측면에서 연구결과가 쉽게 반영되지 못하고 있으므로 충돌해석 비용과 시간을 저감할 수 있는 모델축소법(model reduction)을 이용한 해석방법을 개발하였으며 그 효용성을 최종변위에 대해 직접충돌해석결과와 비교함으로써 평가하였다.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to revise the weight to power ratio of the representative truck in S. Korea. So far, S. Korea has been using the unit lb/hp, and the construction machines were not considered in the evaluation of the performance of trucks. METHODS : This study was performed to recommend the use of ISO system of units, and to analyze the weight to power ratios of the representative trucks in S. Korea, including the dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and asphalt and concrete diffusers. RESULTS: From this study, the 85 percentile value of the weight to power ratio of the trucks in S. Korea’s was found to be 103.6 kg/kw. CONCLUSIONS : The performance standard for the representative truck has to be increased upward, considering the travel pattern of the dump trucks, concrete mixers, and asphalt and concrete diffuser trucks, travel distances, narrow area (work zone) of operation, and the saving in construction budget for climbing lane. Based on this study, the weight to power ratio of the representative truck in S. Korea could possibly be revised to 100~110 kg/kW.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of the study is to a) explore the operating speed of trucks on rural highways affected by road geometry, and thereby b) develop a predictive model for the operating speed of trucks on rural highways. METHODS: Considering that most of the existing studies have focused on cars, the current study aimed to predict the operating speed of trucks by conducting linear regression analysis on the speed data of trucks operating on the linear-curved-linear portions of the road as a single set. RESULTS: The operating speed in the plane curve portion increased with the length of the curve, and decreased with a lower vertical grade and a smaller curve radius. In the straight plane portion, the operating speed increased with a larger curve radius(upstream), and decreased with an increase in the change of the vertical grade, depending on the length of the vertical curve. CONCLUSIONS: This study developed estimation models of truck for operational speed and evaluated the degree of safety for horizontal and vertical alignments simultaneous. In order to represent whole area of the rural highway. the models should be ew-analyzed with vast data related with road alignment factor in the near future

        PURPOSES : This study estimated an asphalt pavement internal behavior under uphill lanes considering reducing speed of heavy truck on uphill slope. METHODS : Truck performance curve which has been adapted to "Korea Highway Capacity Manual" was analyzed. And asphalt pavement internal behaviors were estimated with Multi-layered elastic analysis using KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) dynamic modulus prediction equations. RESULTS : As a result, it is shown that when the standard truck drives 2.0 km at a speed of 80 km/h in 8% climbing slope, it's speed reduced to 25.4 km/h, at same time frequency in asphalt layer decrease to 67.2% and it's dynamic modulus degrades to 30.9%. Based on these results, internal behavior as decreasing vehicle speed on uphill lanes were estimated. CONCLUSIONS : From the results of Multi-layered elastic analysis, internal behavior showed that when the standard truck drives 2.0 km at a speed of 80 km/h in 8% slope on uphill lanes, vertical strain was increased to 44.4% at the bottom of surface course, and lateral tensile strain was increased to 20.5% at the bottom of base course.

        Forklift truck is one of the dangerous machines which causes the fatal accidents most frequently. The causes of fatalities by forklift from 2008 to 2011 were analyzed. Crushing the operator when tipping over or falling off a truck were the major causes of death in this study. The purpose of this study is to show measures from the engineering point of view to prevent the forklift truck accidents. In order for that, the domestic requirement for forklift safety was compared with those of foreign and international standards. The manufacturers' opinion was also collected regarding to improve the forklift safety. Several measures were suggested in order to prevent fatalities caused by forklift.

        A gas forklift is often fueled by LPG or gasoline that emit toxic exhaust emissions, smoke, fumes and odors. These emissions become quite serious when forklifts are operated in confined areas. It is bad for the forklift operators as well as other workers who are inhaling the fumes. With cleaner burning natural gas, forklift operators and fellow workers are exposed to considerably less emissions. This study aims to develop the fuel system for the CNG-converted forklifts which is composed of hardwares and control algorithm for LPG forklift engine. The engine torque, power and emission in LPG fuel mode are measured to evaluate the difference of CNG engine performance. Based on the results, it is transparent that CNG-converted forklift is an very effective way to reduce the amount of CO, NMHC and NOX in the exhaust gas, which proves the developed control system is effective for CNG forklift engine.
