Iridology, developed more than 100 years ago, is the diagnosis of medical conditions through noting irregularities of the pigmentation in the iris The purpose of this study is to compare interrelation between CVA, hypertension family history and cardio-renal connective tissue in Iris Constitution through iris constitution examination. The subjects consist of 114 patients who were examined in Iris Constitution at Chonju Oriental Medicine Hospital attached to Wonkwang Univ. from September. 1st. 2000 to August. 31th. 2002. 1. In the distribution of Iris Constitution, among of 79cases, There are neurogenic type 13cases, abdominal connective tissue weakness constitution 31 cases, cardio-renal connective tissue weakness constitution 6 cases, cholesterol 7 cases and others 22 case in control group. 2. There are familial history of CVA and hypertention 32 cases, no familial history of CVA and hypertention1 3 cases, in 35cases of experimental group. These results imply that there is meaningfulness of interrelation between cardio-renal connective tissue weakness constitution and CVA, hypertention.
A study on the Byungtae Ron(病能論) of the So Moon(素問), one of the classic book of oriental medicine, was carried out analytically for the right comments. The principal ideas obtained summarized as follows; Neng(能) is similar to tae(態) in the pronunciation and the meaning of a chinese character. Byungtae(病能) means the state of the symptoms and the pulse condition of the diseases, etc. It deals with ethological factor, mechanism of disease, the condition of an illness, method of diagnosis, rule of treatment, technique of treatment of seven diseases and taking this seven diseases as a example, mainly discuss the technique and significance of clinical observation and the pathogenesis and condition of an illness, so It named Byungtaeron(病能論) In this chapter it shows we can grasp condition of illness well only if we classify the pathogenesis and condition of an illness in details. this viewpoint provides the foundation of development in oriental diagnostics. It places emphasis on pulse feeling in this chapter, so it describes pulse condition of various kinds of diseases in details. It also presents how to compare pulse feeling like comparison between Inyoungmaek(人迎脈, arterial carotid communes, the pulsation of which is easily felt beside Adam's apple) and Ch'onkumaek(寸口脈, the radial artery on the wrist where the pulse is routinely taken for diagnosis), between right and left Ch'onkumaek(寸口脈), between Yangmyungsangdong (陽明常動) and Taeyangbudong(太陽不動), Soyangbudong(少陽不動), etc. In this chapter it explains pulse feeling occupies a high position in the diagnosis of diseases in Huangdi's internal Classic(黃帝內經) period and the technique of pulse feeling is already plentiful and minute. In this chapter it presents Tongbyungyichi(同病異治, to apply different methods of treatment to the same kind of disease) theory, taking tangible syndromes as examples. this is prominent viewpoint of determination of treatment based on the differentiation of symptoms and signs and much influence development of later ages' medicine. On the ground of oriental medical theory, it may bring about different symptoms in the same disease according to stage of disease, the seasons, the regions, the constitution of patient, therefore surely adopt different technique of treatment. this differentiation of symptoms and signs is an important character in oriental medicine.
This study was designed to investigate the location of Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) through literature research. We extracted the part about the location of Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) from ancient and modern oriental medical literature which were used commonly in clinic. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The location of Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) were generally recorded DangJeJung. 2. Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) placed in middle of linea alba. 3. Treatment effect of moxibustion on Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) were recorded as diarrhea, dropsy, prolapse of the anus, stomachache, paralysis etc.. 4. Acupuncture therapy on Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕) is dangerous because of inflammation, it is suggested that acupuncture therapy may be possible if acupuncture therapy do not induce inflammation on Sin-Guel(CV8, 神闕).
chemosensitivity test of Geungsonojukwhan-Bijukbang was performed on the three different human cancer cell lines originated from liver, cervix and colon tissue, namely Hep 3B, Hela and HCT-15, which have similar doubling times. Semiautomated sulforhodamine B(SRB) assay appears to offer an valuable tool for chemosensitivity of unknown compounds, since it is a simple, valid and inexpensive method of assessing drug monitoring for large samples in a short time. The results obtained in this study were as follows 1. Good correlations were shown from the results of SRB assay and those of clogenetic assay. 2. As a result of exposure to Geungsonojukwhan, the proliferation of Hela cell and Hep 3B cell was slightly decreased in Geungsonojukwhan-Bijukbang(GIP), Geungsonojukwhan-Pejukbang(LUP) and Geungsonojukwhan-Sinjukbang(RTP). 3. As a result of exposure to Geungsonojukwhan, GIP showed better anticancer effect to HCT-15 cell lines than those of LUP and RTP. 4. The extract of Geungsonojukwhan-Bijukbang in 40℃ were more effective in cytotoxic response than those in 100℃. 5. The research showed that the higher concentration the more effective in the inhibition of proliferation of the cancer cell lines, however, the cytotoxic effect of Geungsonojukwhan-Bijukbang in the concentration of 1.60㎎/㎖ and 3.20㎎/㎖ showed the most effective inhibition rate according to the increase of concentration.
Allergic rhinitis is characterized by rhinorrhea, sneezing and nasal obstruction. Allergic rhinitis increases because of developments of diagnostic techniqhe, environmental change, especially industrialization. Recently people have studied on allergic rhinitis. We studied 107 allergic rhinitis patients with SBJ from June. 2002 to December, 2002. There was a significant effect of SBJ on allergic rhinitis. So, we suggested the clinical effect of SBJ on allergic rhinitis.
The Sellaginella Tarmariscina is widely used in the traditional oriental herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant effects. The effects of aqueous extracts of Sellaginella Tarmariscina on the viability and induction of apoptotic cell death were investigated in HL-60 cells. The cell viability after treating with extract of Sellaginella Tarmariscina was quantified by MTT assay. The results showed that could inhibit the proliferation of HL-60 cells and caused a 40% inhibition of HL-60 cells at concentrations of 400 ㎍/ml. The cancericidic effect of Sellaginella Tarmariscina was mediated by apoptosis. Thus, HL-60 cells exposed to Sellaginella Tarmariscina displayed the DNA fragmentation ladder and nucleus chromatin condensation characteristic for apoptosis. In conclusion, our results suggest that the extract of Sellaginella Tarmariscina may induce the apoptotic death in HL-60 cells.

In the present study, we aimed to consider the name of twelve main Meridian in order to understand the concept of the Meridian system and to applicate acupuncture theory in the clinical field properly and fundamentally. We referred to several literatures on the matter and we found out that the name of present twelve Meridian was not settled until the period of Yellow Emperor's Classic. In the time of Yellow Emperor's Classic, the two theory of Internal Organ and Meridian system were combined and added new theory of ‘WoonGi'. The general rule of combination is that the component of name of Meridian consist of 'Hand' or 'Foot' , 'three Eum and Yang' and internal organ. The internal organ coupled with the root ki or middle ki of 'three Eum and Yang' and the 'Hand' or 'Foot' depend on the location of internal organ that belongs to meridian. The name of Twelve Meridian is a kind of system formed to analyze the two concepts organically and dynamically. One is material internal organ and the other is immaterial meridian system.
Baelantang(BLT) is used in female infertility caused by ovulation disorder. An attempt was to evaluate the influences of BLT on the serum concentrations of FSH, LH, estradiol(E2) and progesterone, the histological and optical changes of ovary, ovary weight of rats. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Blood FSH level increased experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day, which showed no efficacy. 2. Blood LH level increased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and decreased 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 3. Blood E2 level decreased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and increased 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 4. Blood progesterone level increased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and decreased 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 5. In histological observations of ovary, ovulation increased in experimental group as compared control group on 7th day and on 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 6. In optically observations of ovary, weight of ovary increased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and 14th day, which showed no efficacy. According to these results, BLT did not influence on the ovulation and ovary of rats.
The objective of this study is to measure the changes of regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) and blood pressure(BP) in rats, following the intravenous injection of drug. The measurement was continually monitored by laser-doppler flowmeter (Transonic Instrument, USA) and pressure tranducer(Grass, USA) in anesthetized adult Sprague-Dawley rats for about 2 to 2 and a half hours through the data acquisition system composed of MacLab and Macintosh computer. The result of this experiment was as following 1. Poria increased the changes of rCBF in rats, significantly. 2. The rCBF of Poria was significantly decreased by pretreated propranolol, but not by pretreated L-NNA. 3. Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii decreased the changes of rCBF in rats, significantly. 4. The rCBF of Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii was not changed by pretreated propranolol and L-NNA. 5. Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii increased the changes of rCBF in rats, significantly. 6. The rCBF of Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii was significantly decreased by pretreated propranolol, but not by pretreated L-NNA. 7. Poria decreased the changes of BP in rats, significantly. 8. The BP of Poria was significantly increased by pretreated propranolol and L-NNA. 9. Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii did not change the BP in rats. 10. The BP of Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii did not change by pretreated propranolol but was increased by pretreated L-NNA. According to the result above, Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii have a different effect on each other, extract together. It is considered that the effect of Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii increased that of each drugs, the increasing rCBF of Poria and Radix Cynanchi Wilfordii is mediated by adrenergic β-receptor.
The word "Qi-Gong" firstly originated from Taoism in the Jin era means to concentrate true energy and to cultivate new energy and thus to make our vitality strong. Qi-Gong, which means breathing method and physical exercise had been developed in various directions from ancient China. "Zhubingyuanhoulun" intensively summarized these various methods for Qi-Gong, and the theory of Qi-Gong as practical treatment. Through this study, this author attempted to newly define the essences of Breathing training method and to review the conception, the history in "Zhubingyuanhoulun".
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Semen Cuscutae on phenylephrine(PE) and KCl induced contraction of isolated rat thoracic aorta. Contractile force was measured with force displacement transducer under 1.5 g loading tension. Contraction evoked by PE (ED50) was relaxed significantly by Semen Cuscutae. The mean percent relaxing of PE induced contraction was 60.6% (p<0.01) after 300 ㎕/㎖ Semen Cuscutae, but the mean percent contraction of KCl induced contraction was 10.4% (p<0.05) after 300 ㎕/㎖ Semen Cuscutae. Vasorelaxation by Semen Cuscutae was significantly reduced after with and without endothelial cells. Pretreatment of aortic rings with L-NAME (100 μM), a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, indomethacin (3 μM), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, methylene blue (10 μM), guanylyl cyclase inhibitor, propranolol (1 μM), a β-adrenoceptor antagonist, atropine (1 μM), a muscarinic receptor antagonist and diltiazem (10 μM), a Ca2+-channel blocker was recovered the effect aorta. These results indicate that Semen Cuscutae can relax EP induced contraction of isolated rat thoracic aorta and that this increasing contraction related to epithelium and various effect
