        This study was undertaken to assess grade and gender differences in dietary behavior, food preference and perception about body image of students in 4, 5 and 6th grades in elementary school in Kwangju. Anthropometric data showed that mean height and weight were 137.98±6.79cm 32.69±6.09kg, in the 4th grade, 144.11±6.91cm, 36.88±7.60kg in the 5th grade and 151.52±7.47cm, 42.68±8.06kg in the 6th grade. Height and weight of male and female students of each grade were very similar to those of the Korean standard Growth data. Females in the 5th and 6th grades were taller than those in male students, which suggested the height growth spurt in females. Furthermore, both genders showed marked variability even in the same group. All the three different obesity indices(BMI, Rohrer and % of ideal body weight) showed higher value in males than in females consistently. Male respondents desired taller and heavier body shape while females perceived they were heavy and desired only taller and thinner body image. There were significant differences in satisfaction with height, weight and body image by grade(p〈0.05). 36.7% of subjects responded that they did not eat despite hunger. In higher grade they felt guilty after eating sweet things. Strikingly, it was noted a small number of students tried to take a diet pills or vomited on purpose. Data on food preference showed that female did not like sweet food and pork. While male students preferred red meat and chicken. Thus result indicated that there was a great difference in food preference by gender.

        A survey was conducted to investigate consumers' attitudes toward the foods developed by gene recombination techniques from December, 1999 to April, 2000. The questionnaires were mailed to 1,500 people, and the 1,101 people responded. The consumers were asked about knowledge, acceptance, intention of purchasing, and labeling information. Although the portion of the consumers (88.8%) knowing the genetically modified foods (GMF) was lower than that of the food expert group (98.7%), many consumers had some knowledge on the GMF, which may be influenced by news released from mass media. Seventy-nine percent of the consumers responded that gene recombination technology is necessary in food production, which is similar to the findings on the survey of the expert group. The portion of the consumers responding that these foods are potentially hazard was 88.1 %, which is a little higher than the data (80.9%) from the expert group. The consumers having greater knowledge less worried about a potential hazard of the gene recombinant foods (p<0.01). Although 62.9% of the consumers responded to be willing to purchase those foods, only 16.2% of them responded to purchase the foods with no conditions, which is lower to that from the expert group (23.5%). There was no statistically significant relationship between the knowledge and the intention of purchasing. The ninety point three percent of the consumers wanted the information on gene recombination to be labeled on the foods. The data from this survey suggest that knowledge of the consumers on the GMF are not accurate, so proper strategy for consumer education may need to be developed. In addition, it is necessary to improve safety assessment sys0etn and analytical techniques for genetically modified foods (GMF) and to build pre- and post-market surveillance system for efficient implementation of the GMF labeling.

        대구효성가톨릭대학교 여대생 412명과 일본의 후쿠오카 지역 여대생 423명을 대상으로 설문지 및 신체계측을 통하여 조사한 청년기 여대생의 자기체형인식과 수척하기 원하는 조절 지향 및 사회적 체형 불안도를 알아본 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 조사대상자의 평균연령은 대구지역은 19.2±2.1세이며 신장은 159.6±4.9cm, 평균체중은 51.2±6.0kg로 BMI 수치는 20.1±2.2이었다. 이 수치는 한국인 20대 여자 평균 체중인 53 Kg 보다는 조금 낮았으며 키는 160cm로 근접한 수치를 보여주고 있다. 일본의 후쿠오카 지역 대상자는 18.3±0.6세이며 신장은 157±5.0cm, 평균체중은 53.3±6.9kg로 BMI 수치는 21.5±2.5이었다. 2. 대구지역 여대생의 이상적으로 생각하는 신상, 체중 및 BMI와 현실치와의 차는 희망신장은 164.7±2.9cm로 실제 그들의 평균 신장보다 5.1±4.1cm의 차이를 보였고 이상적체중은 48.7±2.9kg로 실제체중보다 -2.6±5.0kg로 적게 나타났다. 또한 이상적인 BMI수치를 보면 18.0±1.0로 실제 BMI수치보다 -2.2±2.0 더 낮은 BMI수치를 선호함을 보여주었다. 후쿠오카 지역 대상자의 이상적으로 생각하는 신장, 체중 및 BMI와 현실치와의 차는 이상신장은 160.7±3.5cm로 실제 그들이 평균 신장보다 3.2±4.2cm의 차이를 보였고 이상적 체중은 47.9±3.4kg로 실제체중보다 -5.4±5.8kg로 적게 나타났다. 또한 이상적인 BMI수치를 보면 18.5±1.2로 실제 BMI수치보다 -3.0±2.2 더 낮은 BMI수치 선호함을 보여주었다. 대구 및 후쿠오카 양 지역 대상자는 이상체형에서는 마른 쪽으로의 선호 경향이 높았다. 3. 체중조절지향도에서는 대구지역 대상자 중 좀더 마르기를 희망하는 학생의 수는 285명으로 전체의 70.1%를 나타냈으며, 좀 더 살찌기를 희망하는 학생의 수는 30명으로 전체의 7.3%, 현 상태에 만족하면서 그대로의 유지를 원하는 학생의 수는 93으로 22.6%이었다. 일본의 후쿠오카 지역의 대상차들 중 좀더 마르기를 희망하는 학생의 수는 361명으로 전체의 85.6%를 나타냈으며, 좀 더 살찌기를 희망하는 학생의 수는 93명으로 전체의 2.6%, 현 상태에 만족하면서 그대로의 유지를 원하는 학생의 수는 51명으로 전체의 12.1%였다. 4. 실제체형과 자기평가체형과의 비교 평가율에서는 과대 평가율이 대구지역은 56.5% 후쿠오카지역은 57.2%로 나타났으며 정당평가율은, 39.1%. 40.3% 과소평가율은 4.4%, 2.3%이 었다. 5. 대구지역 대상자의 체형평가에 따른 사회적 체형 불안도는 전체 대상자의 평균치는 28점이었으며 여윔에서는 너무 살찜으로 갈수록 사회적 체형 불안도가 상승하는 경향을 나타내었다. 후쿠오카 지역 대상자의 체형평가에 따른 사회적 체형 불안도는 전체 대상자의 평균치는 34점이었으며 여윔에서는 너무 살찜으로 갈수록 사회적 체형불안도가 상승하는 경향을 나타내었다. 후쿠오카 지역의 체형 불안 도가 대구지역보다 유의적으로 높았다. 한 일 여대생의 자기 체형인식 및 체형 불안도에 관한 비교연구에서 한국여대생이 일본여대생보다 평균 신장은 크고 평균체중은 적으며 이상적으로 생각하는 신장은 한국이 일본보다 더 크고 체중은 비슷하였다. 체중조절지향도는 한국여대생보다 일본여대생이 마르기를 희망하는 율이 더 높고 체형의 과대평가율은 한국여대생과 일본여대생이 비슷하였으며 사회적 체형불안도는 일본여대생이 대구여대생보다 높았다.

        This study was performed to investigate the recognition on preprocessed foods among dietitians employed in 106 elementary school foodservices in Inchon by questionnaire from December 11th to 28th in 1999. Number of cooks in school foodservices increased significantly(p〈0.01) with the number of children to feed, and 8 or 9 cooks were the most typical number(36.79%). Most(93.4%) of the subjects understood that it is necessary to use the preprocessed foods and they considered the food hygiene as the most important factor. Many subjects(89.62%) responded that the lack of cooks and cooking equipment was partly solved by using preprocessed foods and the expected reductions in personnel and waste through using preprocessed foods were 15~20% (38.68% of the subjects) and 20-30% (41.51% of the subjects), respectively.

        To compare actual obesity rate and self-evaluated body shape, 651 women living in Inchon were participated in the measurement of anthropometric indices and in the survey by questionnaire. Mean RBW and BMI were in normal range except the girl in 13-15 years. RBW and BMI of the women in 40s and 50s were significantly higher than those in women in younger ages(p<0.001). Triceps skinfold thickness of the subjects were not significantly different. Significantly low DRBW in teenagers and women in 20s showed that their desire to reduce body weight were very strong. Over the half of the subjects thought they were too heavy and unsatisfied at their body shapes. The parts of the body desired to remove extra fat were the waist & abdomen in women over 30s and the thigh & legs in teenagers. It is thought that women, especially in 10s and 20s need the education about the appropriate evaluation of body shape and also need the nutrition education about the deteriorated influence of underweight on health.

        성인 남자 963명, 여자 539명, 총 1, 502명에게 개고기 음식의 인식에 관한 설문조사를 한 다음 연령별, 성별로 나누고 SAS 시스템으로 통계처리하였다. 그 결과. 가장 많이 먹어본 개고기 음식은 보신탕으로 나타났고, 그 다음 전골. 수육, 무침의 순이었다. 개고기 먹는 회수는 연간 2∼6회였다. 개고기를 처음 먹어본 나이는 남자는 21∼30세, 여자는 l1∼20세가 가장 많았다. 조선시대의 개고기 요리 중 알고 있는 것은 남녀 모두 개장국이 가장 많았고, 그 다음 개소주, 옻보신탕, 편육의 순서를 보였다. 개고기를 먹어서 좋아진 점은 남녀 모두 `건강해졌다`가 가장 많았고, 그 다음 `활력이 생겼다`는 순서를 나타냈다. 새로 개발하기를 바라는 요리는 남녀 모두 개구이가 가장 많았고, 그 다음 탕수육과 즉석 보신탕으로 나타났다.

        성인 남자 963명, 여자 539명, 총 1, 502명에게 개고기 식용에 관한 설문조사를 한 다음 일차적으로 연령별, 성별로 나누고 SAS 시스템으로 통계처리하였다. 그 결과, 개고기를 먹어본 경험은 평균 83%였고, 그중 남자는 91.9%, 여자는 67.9%였다. 개고기를 먹게 된 이유는 남자는 `남을 따라 보신탕집에 가서`가 34.7%로 가장 높았고, 여자는 `집에서 먹기 때문에 따라 가서`가 25.6%로 가장 높았다. 개고기 식용에 대해서는 평균 86.3%가 찬성하였고, 그중 남자는 92.3%가, 여자는 72.1%가 찬성하였다. 개고기 식용을 반대하는 사람들의 의견은 남녀 모두 `비인간적이기 때문`이라는 이유가 가장 많았다. 식용견을 별도로 키우고 있다 는 사실은 남자는 79.5%가, 여자는 64.9%가 알고 있었다. 개고기 구입은 남녀 모두 `시장에서 잡아놓은 것을 사온다` 라는 답이 가장 많았다. 개고기 식용 비난에 대한 반대 이유로는 첫째로는 남녀 평균 `우리 고유의 음식문화이므로 남들이 시비걸 수 없다`가 가장 많았고, 둘째로는 `맛있기 때문`이었다.

        This study was carried out to investigate the consumer recognition and consumption of Misitgaru(the traditional powder of roast grain). Data were collected from the 605 housewives(average age, 42.9 years old) residing in Chonbuk area by the self-administered questionnaire. The results from this study were as follows. The respondants were generally concerned regarding Misitgaru as a between-meal snack(33%). And there were recognition on Misitgaru as a weaning food(17%), health food(16%), and substitute food(14%). Of the respondants, good consumers of the Misitgaru were high ratio in age below 30 years old and in number of family member between 6 to 7. Among the demographic variables, age, educational level and housing form especially affected the purchasing place and educational level affected the kinds of mixing cereals. The higher the educational level, the more the kinds of mixing cereals. The methods of storage were significantly different according to age and income level. The older in age and higher in income level, the higher the storage at room temperature.

        The purposes of this study were to research the current state of evaluation of children with delayed development and cerebral palsy and determine pediatric physical therapists' knowledge of assessment tools and their use. The subjects were 130 pediatric physical therapists (general hospitals, university-related hospitals, rehabilitation centers, etc.). Data was obtained from August 24, 1999 to October 18, 1999 by means of a survey questionnaire. The results were as follows: 1. The current state of pediatric physical therapist evaluation of children with delayed development and cerebral palsy. 1) Tools used to assess functional areas of children with cerebral palsy were: subjective description format-128 (47.1%); the GMFM-58 (21.3%); facility-generated tool-51 (18.8%); and DDST-15 (5.5%). 2) Tools used to assess developmentally delayed children were: subjective description format-121 (50.6%); the GMFM-43 (18.0%); facility-generated tool-41 (17.2%); and DDS T-14 (5.9%). 3) After their college or university study, therapists who had attended lectures on evaluation were 113 (86.9%); 13 (10.0%) therapists had not attended any lectures on evaluation 2. Test scores of physical therapists' professional knowledge of evaluation procedures: high (more than 36 points)-74 (56.9%); moderate (18~35 points)-39 (30.0%); and low (below 17 points)-none. 1) For therapists treating cerebral palsied children, 73 (65.2%) were in the high range, 39 (34.8%) were in the moderate range and none were in the low range. 2) For therapists treating children with delayed development, 71 (65.7%) were in the high range, 37 (34.3%) were in the moderate range and none were in the low range. Although the general degree of professional knowledge of evaluation was quite high, there was a lack of variety in the assessment tools used With a large number of therapists depending on subjective description. Possible reasons for the low rate of objective asses sment tool use: 1) Poor clinical environment: too many clients and lirnited treatment time. 2) Lack of any medical insurance fee category for specific assessment tools. 3) Lack of continuing education opportunities in pediatric evaluation skills during or after either college-based (3 year) or university-based (4 year) education programs. Based on the study results, provision of more extended educational opportunities would promote the use of a greater variety of objective assessment tools by pediatric physical therapists.

        A survey was conducted to investigate the attitudes of the food specialist to the food developed by gene recombination. The mail survey was distributed to 1,400 food specialists and received 464, a response rate of 33.1%. Respondents were asked about knowledge, concerns of potential hazards, purchasing and labeling of the gene recombination foods. Most respondents (98.7%) have some knowledge on the gene recombination foods. 91.3% of respondents recognized necessity of gene recombination technology. However, they also point out its potential hazards (80.9%). The groups with less knowledge showed their increased worry on the hazard in comparison with ones of having more knowledge(p$lt;0.01). The result indicated that there was negative relationship between knowledge and worry on the gene recombination foods. The groups with more knowledge showed their increased purchasing on gene recombination foods in comparison with ones of having less knowledge(p$lt;0.01). The result indicated that there was positive relationship between their purchase intent for gene recombination foods and knowledge. 68.4% of respondents showed their interest on purchasing the gene recombination foods. In this group, most of them (44.9%) has on condition that low cost (27.0%). In addition, they also have not use the foods for their children (17.9%) if they buy it. Most respondents (85.3%) want labeling on the gene recombination foods.
