        We investigate the effects of the immune function (HI titer) in broilers fed diets containing Hermetia illucens (H. illucens) peptide extract over a 40-day period. Twenty-four broiler chicks (Arbor Acres, 1 d old) were divided into four groups and fed different diets (control, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1% H. illucens peptide extract). To evaluate HI titer, all broilers were vaccinated with H9H2 vaccine subcutaneously on the lateral thorax, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Similar HI titer was observed with 1% H. illucens peptide extract treatment compared to the control after 40 days (p>0.01). Groups fed 0.5% H. illucens peptide extract demonstrated the most effective immune effects (p<0.01), followed by groups fed 0.1% H. illucens peptide extract. In conclusion, using 0.1% or 0.5% H. illucens peptide extract before or after vaccination improved HI titer immune function in broilers.

        This study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of broilers fed different levels of Hermetia illucens powder. A total of 400 broiler chicks (1-day old Arbor Acres) were fed commercial diets containing H. illucens powder at 0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1% with four replicates (25 chicks per replicate), for 35 days. Weight gain in broilers fed diets containing different levels of H. illucens powder increased significantly at 28 and 35 days, compared with that of the control (p<0.05). However, feed intake and mortality showed no differences among the treatments as a function of time. At 21, 28, and 35 days, broilers fed different levels of H. illucens powder had lower feed conversion rates (p<0.05) than their counterparts fed the control diet. In conclusion, 0.5% H. illucens powder is the optimal level for improved weight gain and feed conversion.

        This study analyzes the effect of the level of satisfaction with the living environment of rural people on migration. The analysis data were used by the Rural Development Administration for the survey of welfare systems for farmers and fishermen in 2017, and samples of 3,776 were used for the analysis. The analysis variables were divided into a group of migrants, a group of permanent residents, and a group of decision-keeping, and the level of satisfaction with the living environment of each of the 10 rural areas was used as an independent variable. According to the analysis results, the basic living base and safety of rural residents were having a positive effect. The results show that the projects for developing rural areas, which increase the basic living base, are making substantial contributions to preventing the breakaway of the rural population. Safety has been neglected in the area of rural planning, but if the level of discontent is not enough, it has had the greatest impact on the livelihoods of rural residents. Welfare and cultural leisure set the main demand level for welfare and cultural leisure to the elderly and vulnerable classes, and interpret it as a result of weakened defense against stress from relocation of residence, difficulty of migration due to low income levels, and migration. Therefore, the paradoxical analysis results could be interpreted as showing that measures to increase the satisfaction of the people on welfare and cultural leisure should be taken.

        In this study, vibrational characteristics of upright breakwater under wave condition is numerically analyzed. Firstly, finite element model of upright breakwater which composed by structure-foundation system is established. Dynamic behavior of the upright breakwater’s structure-foundation system is analyzed. Secondly, numerical model for wave field is created. Wave pressure is extracted to apply for the upright breakwater model as the excitation force. Both of design wave and small wave are considered. Thirdly, the vibrational responses are extracted from the upright breakwater model and there model parameters are extracted. Finally, the effect of the wave condition on vibration characteristics of upright breakwater is examined.

        The motivation of this paper is to identify the variation of stress filed in multi-strand tendon anchorage system using electromechanical impedance measurement. To achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, stress variation in multi-strand anchorage system due to strand breakage is analyzed to determine the location of impedance acquisition. Secondly, a piezoelectric-based interface technique is designed to localize the damage strand. Lastly, the conceptual design of the PZT-interface is preliminarily verified by an experimental test. Impedance signatures obtained from PZT-interface are quantified by using RMSD index (root-mean-square-deviation). The result shows that the PZT-interface technique is promisingly to identify damage strands.

        Paddy-upland rotation system is one of the important cropping system for improving soil quality and crop productivity. we conducted to investigate the effect of paddy-upland rotation system on soil properties and crop productivity in reclaimed tidal land. The paddy-upland rotation could be effective to conserve soil water contents and prevent from salt damage when cultivating upland crops. The first two years of maize cultivation after rice cultivation could be effective to secure stable production. However, in case of soybean crop, the rotation effect might be lower than that of maize. In the first year, the yield of soybean was 214 kg/10a. In the second and third year, the yields of soybean decreased consecutively to 152, 123 kg/10a respectively. In this paper, it would be suggested that maize be cultivated for up to two years and soybean be cultivated for one year after rice crop grown in reclaimed tidal land. This study could be provide basic data of the physico-chemical properties applicable to paddy-upland rotation system at reclaimed tidal lands.

        ‘Daname’ is a foxtail millet(Setaria italica Beauv.) variety developed and registered by Department of Southern Area Crop Science, NICS, RDA in 2014. This variety which collected from IT252182 was developed through pure line selection. ‘Daname’ is a early-maturing variety having 100 days of growth period from seeding to harvesting in Milyang of Korea. The culm length is about 97 cm which is 20cm shorter culm length than standard variety ‘Hwanggeumjo’, and it showed tolerant to lodging in field. The panicle shape is a cylindrical and the length is about 19cm. According to the grain, seed color and dehusked grain colors are orange and yellow and endosperm characteristic is non-glutinous. The yield performance of this variety was about 3.81 t ha-1 in local adaptability test from 2013 to 2014 and it showed similar with standard variety ‘Hwanggeumjo’. As the addition amount of ‘Daname’ in rice increased from 0% to 30% and 100%, the antioxidant ability of ‘Daname’ added rice and hardness/stickiness balances were increased. But we could not find out the difference of hardness/stickiness balances between 0%and 10% addition. So, 10% addition amount was concluded to increase antioxidant ability regardless eating quality of cooked rice. (Variety registration No. 6243)

        This study was conducted to compare changes of total carotenoid contents and antioxidant activities in yellow waxy corns (Zea mays L.) depending on harvest time. The total carotenoid contents of yellow waxy inbred lines and hybrids increased from 19 days and then the highest content of total carotenoid contents was observed at 25 to 27 days after pollination. Thereafter, there was little change in total carotenoid contents. According to analysis total content of carotenoids on 23 days after pollination, which was the period of harvesting waxy corn, KY2 was the highest as 15.4 ㎍/g in inbred lines and KY2/KY39 was the hightest as 11.2 ㎍/g in hybrids, respectively. The total carotenoid contents of each hybrid were higher than mean that of their parent lines except for some hybrids. The total carotenoid contents of KY27/KY37 were significantly higher than those of their parental lines. Antioxidant activity of yellow waxy corn showed a tendency to increase after decrease depending on delaying harvesting time. Antioxidant activities of hybrids were higher than that of inbred lines. As a result of correlation analysis between total carotenoid contents and antioxidant activity, correlation coefficient of inbred lines and hybrids was as low as -0.12 and -0.13, respectively. When the harvest time was delayed, the lightness of yellow waxy corn decreased but the redness and yellowness increased. As a result of correlation analysis between Hunter’s Lab value and total carotenoid contents, correlation coefficient of lightness, redness and yellowness were -0.22, 0.67, 0.53, respectively.

        In analyzing the effect of the central place improvement projects, this study classifies subject residents into two groups of the residents of the project target regions and those of surrounding villages, and conducts verification. As a result of analysis, Variety of cultural programs is the only factor that positively affects the satisfaction level of the residents of the project target region, and it has been analyzed at the significance level of 10% that a one-unit increase in securing rest areas lowers the satisfaction level of the residents of surrounding villages. This shows that the effect of the central place improvement projects currently promoted is at a low level, and there is also a risk of conflict between the residents in the target region and those in surrounding villages. Although there is no statistical significance, analysis shows that a method to provide the residents in surrounding villages with the project-related information and to guarantee their participation in the project enhances the satisfaction level of the residents of surrounding villages. Therefore, institutional improvements reflecting this need to be made.

        1970년대 수출주도 고도성장을 위해 정부는 조선・철강・기계 등의 중화학공업을 선택적으로 집중육성 하였다. 그 결과 일반기계산업은 1970년 수출 8백만불에서 2015년 현재 218,262백만불로 약 27,000배 이상 성장하였다. 일반기계산업에 있어 금속가공 공정은 필수적이며, 금속가공 공정에서 필요로 하는 것이 공작기계(Mother machine)와 절삭유(Soluble Cutting Fluids, SCF)이다. 절삭조건 개선에 사용되는 절삭유는 첨가제, 사용용도 등에 따라 원액으로 사용하는 비수용성과 물로 희석해서 사용하는 수용성으로 나뉜다. 국내 절삭유 이용량의 60%이상이 수용성 절삭유로 비수용성 절삭유의 오일미스트(Oil-mist), 폐유처리과정에서 유독성 물질 발생 등의 문제로 수용성 절삭유 사용량이 점차 증가하였다. 또한 절삭 성능 향상을 위한 방부제, 윤활제, 방청제, 부식방지제, 세정제, 극압 첨가제 등 각종 화학물질 첨가로 인해, 노출될 경우 췌장, 피부, 담낭, 방광, 소화기계 등 인체의 여러 조직에 암을 유발할 수 있으며, 각종 호흡기계 질환과 피부질환을 초래하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 인체에 미치는 영향 외에도 수용성 절삭유에는 고농도의 유기성분과 질소화합물 등이 함유되어 있어 적절한 처리 없이 수계로 유출시 부영양화, 녹조현상 등과 같은 문제를 일으킬 수 있으며 산화반응에 의해 수계의 용존산소를 감소시키므로 그 처리의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 실공정에서 발생한 폐수용성절삭유를 원시료로 하여 대표적인 불용성 전극인 Ti/IrO2 전극을 이용하여 전기화학적 처리를 진행하였으며 연구에 사용한 장치의 모식도를 Fig. 1에, 시료의 성상을 Table 1에 나타내었다.

        This experiment was conducted to establish a cultivation system for sorghum in reclaimed soils. Pot experiments were used to test the effects on seedling establishment of sowing depth, soil water content, and soil salinity using seeds of Nampungchal-susu and Hwanggeumchal-susu in reclaimed soil. Field experiments were also conducted to examine differences in growth characteristics and yield production, by sowing time, and planting distance. The result of the pot experiment, examining seedling establishment at various sowing depths revealed that, it was the highest 76.7% when the seeds were sown at a depth of 3 cm. Seedling establishment did not differ with soil water content between 10~30 kpa and at 51~70 kpa. No effects of seed moisture absorption before sowing were observed. Seedling establishment showed no differences with soil salinity below 3.2 dS m-1, but decreased with Salinity above 4.8 dS m-1. In field experiments to assess the effects on seedling establishment ratio of sowing time, Nampungchal-susu was revealed to have a high seedling establishment ratio following sowing on June 15. Hwanggeumchal-susu did not exhibits effects of sowing time, on seedling establishment ratio but exhibited higher seedling establishment when in low soil salinity conditions than when sown in high soil salinity conditions. With respect to yield, the yield of the seeds sown on June 15 was higher by 13% for Nampungchal-susu and by 29% for the Hwanggeumchal-susu than that those sown on June 25. With respect to soil salinity, the yield at a soil salinity of 3.2 dS m-1 was lower by 23% than that at 1.6 dS m-1 or lower for Nampungchal-susu, and was lower by 30% Hwanggeumchal-susu. With respect to planting density, both breeds showed the highest yield at 60×10 cm. These results suggest that a sowing time of June 15 and a seeding distance of 60×10 cm are appropriate for sorghum in reclaimed land.

        Effects of high pressure processing on physicochemical and microorganisms properties in birch sap were investigated using variable high pressure processing conditions. The viable cell counts of untreated birch sap was 4.0 log CFU, whereas high pressure processed sap were not detected. In birch sap was treated with 450 to 550 MPa, microorganisms were not detected during storage period, and physicochemical properties as well as color were slightly changed. The more processing time and pressure, its quality variations were more stable and then its optimum processing condition was determined with 120 sec at 550 MPa. The microorganisms and physicochemical properties of treated birch sap were investigated during storage at 5℃ and 10℃ for 45 and 28 days. Changes of physicochemical properties of treated birch sap were smaller than those of the untreated, but viable cell count were not detected during storage period. As for pH, °Brix, and turbidity result of birch sap, quality shelf life of control and treatment were 4 and 24 days, respectively. Especially, ΔE value of instrumental color was untreated birch sap 4 days similar with the high pressure processed it for 28 days. These results indicated that the high pressure processing can be used as an effective method to improve the shelf life of birch sap.

        ‘Sinhwangok’, a new maize F1 hybrid (Zea mays L.), is developed by the maize breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2015. The high-yielding hybrid, named ‘Sinhwangok’ was bred by crossing between two inbred lines, ‘KS178’ and ‘KS145’. It is a yellow dent maize hybrid. After advanced yield trial of ‘Sinhwangok’ in Suwon for two years, regional yield trial was subsequently carried out for evaluation of its growth and yield at three different locations from 2012 to 2015. The days to silking of ‘Sinhwangok’ are 74. The plant height of ‘Sinhwangok’ is 241cm, similar to ‘Jangdaok’, and its ear height ratio is 51%, similar with that of ‘Jangdaok’. It has resistance to lodging. The number of ear per 100 plants is 96. The ear length of ‘Sinhwangok’ is 17cm, shorter than that of ‘Jangdaok’. The weight of 100 seeds of ‘Sinhwangok’ is 34.1g, similar to that of ‘Jangdaok’. It has moderate resistance to southern leaf blight (Bipolaris maydis). It has moderate resistance to European Corn Borer (Ostrinia nubilalis). The grain yield (8.9 ton/ha) of ‘Sinhwangok’ was 15% higher than that of ‘Jangdaok’. The seed production of ‘Sinhwangok’ was acceptable due to a good synchronization of flowering period during crossing between the seed parent, KS178, and the pollen parent, KS145, in Yeongwol and F1 seed yield was 2.3 ton/ha. ‘Sinhwangok’ would be a suitable cultivar to all plain area in Korea.

        The sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) variety ‘Sodamchal’ was developed and registered by Department of Sothern Area Crop Science, National Institute of Crop Science (NICS) in 2013. This variety was developed from the cross between ‘Hwanggeumchal’ with brown grain and ’Jungmo4001’ with semi-dwarf trait. ‘Sodamchal’ is the first semi-dwarf stature with waxy endosperm ever developed in Korea. The yield performance of ‘Sodamchal’ was 2.95 MT/ha in local adaptability test for 2 years. It had 91 cm culm length, which was 58 cm shorter than that of ‘Hwanggeumchal’, 26.3 cm panicle length, 22.0 mm thickness of culm, 21.1 g in 1,000 grain weight. It could be reduce the lodging problem and also adapted to mechanized cultivation. ‘Sodamchal’ produces high quantities of polyphenol and radical scavenging activitiy with diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) in pigmented testa. Above all ‘Sodamchal’ is suitable for use as a parental source for the development of improved pollinator parent lines for developing semi-dwarf sorghum with waxy endosperm and antioxidant activity.         ‘Daanok’, a new maize F1 hybrid (Zea mays L.), is developed by the maize breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2013. The high-yielding hybrid, named ‘Daanok’ was bred by crossing between two inbred lines, ‘KS174’ and ‘KS175’. It is a yellow semi-flint maize hybrid (Zea mays L.). After preliminary yield trial and advanced yield trial of Daanok in Suwon for two years, regional yield trial of that was subsequently carried out for evaluation of its growth and yield at three different locations from 2011 to 2013. The silking date of Daanok is earlier than that of the check hybrid, ‘Jangdaok’. The plant height of Daanok is 229cm, similar to Jangdaok, and its ear height ratio is similar with that of Jangdaok. It has resistance to lodging. There are much of the No. of ear per 100 plants. The ear length of Daanok is similar with that of Jangdaok. The weight of 100 seeds of Daanok is the same with that of Jangdaok. It has strong resistance to northern leaf blight (Exserohilum turcicum) and southern leaf blight (Bipolaris maydis). It has strong resistance to ear lot. It has moderate resistance to corn borer. The grain yield (7.34 ton/ha) of Daanok was 23% higher than that of Jangdaok. The seed production of Daanok has gone well due to a good synchronization of flowering period during crossing between the seed parent, KS174, and the pollen parent, KS175, in Yeongwol and F1 seed yield was 2.38 ton/ha. Daanok would be a suitable cultivar to all plain area in Korea.

        ‘Nampungchal’ is a Sorghum bicolor L. developed and registered by Department of Sothern area crop science, NICS, RDA in 2012. This variety was developed through pure line breeding method from ‘Namhae’ landrace. ‘Nampungchal’ is a medium maturing variety having 68 days from planting to heading of sorghum in Miryang, Korea. The plant is pigmented (purple), the glumes and grains are red-brown with waxy endosperm. The panicle has less compact shape and the length is 23 cm. The grain yield of ‘Nampungchal’ is about 2.28MT/ha that is higher 9%, when compared with standard variety ‘Hwanggeumchal’. Culm length and width are about 142 cm and 20.2 cm, respectively. It could be reduce the lodging problem by thicker stems and also adapted to mechanized cultivation. ‘Nampungchal’ does produce high quantities of polyphenol and tannin contents with DPPH radical scavenging activity in pigmented testa. The object of this breeding program is improvement for mechanized production with high yield potential, lodging resistant, and responsive to favorable environmental conditions.

        ‘온토비’는 중, 북부 지역에서도 안정적인 월동이 가능하며 봄철 풋거름 수량이 많아 답리작 재배에 적합한 헤어리베치 품종을 육성할 목적으로 국립식량과학원에서 유전자원 ‘Ch4 (중국 도입)’에서 파생된 봄철 생육이 우세한 개체들을 선발 하여 계통육종법을 통해 개발되었다. 주요 특성은 개화기에 진한 녹엽색을 띠고, 줄기 모용 밀도가 높으며, 개화기는 전국 평균 5월 15일로써 대조품종인 ‘청풍보라’에 비해 5일 늦다. 월동율은 전국 평균 91%로써 대조품종 보다 2% 더 높은 경 향이었으며, 건물중수량은 ha당 평균 5.44톤으로써 대조품종 에 비해 17% 더 많았고, 질소함량은 ha당 평균 172 kg으로 써 대조품종에 비해 13% 더 증가하였다. ‘온토비’의 적응 지 역은 1월 최저 평균기온이 -15℃ 이상인 지역이면 전국 어느 곳에서나 재배가 가능하다(품종보호등록번호 제4748호).

        The aim of the present study was to investigate the ear and kernel characteristics of colored waxy corn hybrids during ripening according to different sowing dates. Heukjinjuchal and Eolrukchal 1 were sown at April 20 (first cropping) and July 20 (second cropping) in 2011~2012. The accumulated temperature from silking to harvesting was about 590~610℃. It takes 23~24 days when Heukjinjuchal and Eolrukchal 1 were sown in April 20, but July 20 sowing takes 32~35 days. Ear weight, ear diameter, 100-kernel weight and starch content of colored waxy corn were increased as ears matured (p<0.05). Growth temperature was getting decreased during the ripening stage of second cropping, the rate of ear and kernel development had slowed. Starch granules started to accumulate in the cells around the pericarp, then developed in the cells around the embryo. In the second cropping, starch granules in the kernel of colored waxy corn were less compact than the first cropping. The contents of total anthocyanins, cyanidin-3-glucoside and pelargonidin-3-glucoside were increased according to ripening (p<0.05). These results will be helpful to farmers for double

        하얀찰95는 2011년에 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원에서 개발한 단교잡종 찰옥수수로 이삭의 색깔은 흰색이며 자식계통 KW44를 종자친으로 하고 KW35를 화분친으로 한다. 하얀찰95의 출사일수는 일미찰(표준품종)보다 3일정도 빠르고 하얀찰95의 이삭길이는 18.3 cm, 이삭직경은 4.1 cm였으며 착립장률은 90%로 일미찰보다 낮은 수준이었다. 아밀로펙틴함량은 92%로 일미찰과 동일한 수준이었고 조명나방과 도복은 표준품종보다 우수하였다. 2009년부터 2011년까지 지역적응시험에서 하얀찰95의 단위면적당 이삭수는 일미찰과 유사하였지만 이삭중은 낮았으며 채종시험결과 종자친과 화분친간 개화기는 잘 일치하였지만 채종량은 낮았다.
