        Oral examination in a patient with a history of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) needs considerations of leukemia relapse and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Oral manifestations may contribute to early detection of relapse or systemic complications making accurate oral examination and diagnosis significant. We report a case of a large tumor like mass arising in a patient with a history of ALL and HCT. The patient had been diagnosed with ALL relapse and was being treated with chemotherapy, and furthermore was suspected of GVHD development.

        Coupling is commonly used as a mechanical fastener to connect the turbine housing and the bearing housing in a turbocharger assembly. The finite element analysis was used to predict the structural behaviors of the coupling system, which could be caused by the bolt clamping force in the assembly process and the thermal deformation during turbocharger operation. The back plate is used to prevent gas leakage from the turbine housing to the bearing housing while the fixed pin is inserted to set the reference position between the two parts. Thus, in order to predict the mechanical behaviors of the coupling system numerically, the temperature distributions were calculated by heat transfer analysis based on the rated speed of the diesel engine. As a result of analyzing the structural characteristics of the turbocharger, the contact pressure of the back plate was influenced by thermal deformations whereas the bending deformation of the fixed pin was affected by the thermal deformation and the pin position.

        We perform density functional theory calculations to study the CO and O2 adsorption chemistry of Pt@X core@shell bimetallic nanoparticles (X = Pd, Rh, Ru, Au, or Ag). To prevent CO-poisoning of Pt nanoparticles, we introduce a Pt@X core-shell nanoparticle model that is composed of exposed surface sites of Pt and facets of X alloying element. We find that Pt@Pd, Pt@Rh, Pt@Ru, and Pt@Ag nanoparticles spatially bind CO and O2, separately, on Pt and X, respectively. Particularly, Pt@Ag nanoparticles show the most well-balanced CO and O2 binding energy values, which are required for facile CO oxidation. On the other hand, the O2 binding energies of Pt@Pd, Pt@Ru, and Pt@Rh nanoparticles are too strong to catalyze further CO oxidation because of the strong oxygen affinity of Pd, Ru, and Rh. The Au shell of Pt@Au nanoparticles preferentially bond CO rather than O2. From a catalysis design perspective, we believe that Pt@Ag is a better-performing Ptbased CO-tolerant CO oxidation catalyst.

        이번 연구는 예비 중등 지구과학 교사의 야외지질학습에 관한 인식을 조사하여 야외지질학습을 활성화하기 위 한 기초자료로 활용하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 서울 소재 대학교 예비 중등 지구과학교사 39명을 대상으로 야외지질학습의 필요성, 교육적 가치, 야외지질학습을 위한 교육적 경험, 야외지질학습을 교수하기 위한 지도방법, 예비교사 단계에서 필요로 하는 교육에 관해 인식조사를 실시하였다. 4명의 예비 중등 지구과학교사와는 추가로 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 이번 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 연구 참여자는 성별과 학년에 유의미한 차이 없이 야외지질학습이 필요하다고 인식하고 있었다. 또한 야외지질학습에 대한 교육적 가치도 긍정적으로 인식하고 있음을 확인하였다. 야외지질학습을 위한 교육적 경험에 관한 문항에서는 모든 예비교사들이 야외지질답사 경험이 있다고 하였으며 학년이 올라갈수록 경험의 횟 수가 증가하였다. 그리고 야외지질학습 지도 방법에 관한 문항에서는 야외지질학습의 목적에 대해서 학년 간 유의미한 차이가 있음을 볼 수 있었고, 새로운 수업 모듈을 개발해야한다는 문항에서는 남녀 간의 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 야외 지질학습을 실행하기 위해 예비교사 과정에서 필요로 하는 교육은 지질학적인 지식, 야외답사 경험, 야외지질학습을 지도하기 위한 새로운 교수법에 관한 것이다. 이번 연구는 야외지질학습을 실행하기 위해 교사 양성단계에서 필요로 교육을 포함하여 야외지질학습에 대한 인식을 탐색하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

        본 연구는 흑산도 산림유전자원보호구역을 대상으로 산림식생구조를 파악하고자 수행하였으며, 2017년 6월부터 2017년 8월까지 총 59개 조사구에서 식생조사를 실시하였다. Z-M 식물사회학적 방법으로 산림식생 유형을 분류하고 식생단위별 구성종의 중요치와 종다양도를 분석하였다. 산림식생유형분류 결과 최상위 단위에서 동백나무군락군으로 분류되었으며, 군락단위에서는 황칠나무군락(식생단위 1), 소사나무군락, 동백나무전형군락(식생단위 6)의 3개 군락으로 분류되었다. 소사나무군락은 회양목군(식생단위 2), 진달래군(식생단위 3), 왕머루군(식생단위 4), 소사나무전형군 (식생단위 5)의 4개 소군으로 분류되었다. 식생단위별 평균상대우점치 분석 결과 식생단위 1은 붉가시나무, 식생단위 2는 소사나무, 식생단위 3은 곰솔, 식생단위 4는 소나무, 식생단위 5와 6은 구실잣밤나무가 각각 우점치가 가장 높게 나타났다. 종다양도 분석결과 식생단위 2의 종풍부도, 종다양도, 종균재도가 가장 높았으며, 종우점도는 식생단위 6이 가장 높았다. 흑산도 산림유전자원보호구역의 6개 식생단위와 12개 종군에 대한 군집생태학적 접근의 관리방안이 필요할 것으로 판단되었다.

        낙동강 유역에 조성된 신규습지에서 서식환경에 대한 어류의 분포 특성을 평가하고, 이를 기반으로 한 관리방안 도출을 위해 42개 습지에서 환경요인의 측정과 어류 조사를 시행하였다. 조사 기간 동안 총 30종의 어류가 출현하였으며, 이 중에서 배스(Micropterus salmoides)와 블루길(Lepomis macrochirus)과 같은 외래어종의 비율이 상대적으로 높았다. 특히, 밀어(Rhinogobius brunneus)나 끄리(Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis), 피라미(Zacco platypus) 등의 어류는 흐름이 있는 환경을 선호하기 때문에 배스가 우점하는 습지(정체수역)에서 상대적으로 낮은 밀도를 가지는 것으로 사료된다. SOM (Self-Organizing Map)을 활용한 패턴분석 결과, 각 습지의 서식환경 특성에 따라 어류 종의 출현빈도가 상이한 것으로 분석되었다. 어류 종의 분포는 각 습지의 수심 변화와 수생식물 피도에 민감하게 영향 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 수온이나 pH, 용존산소 등의 이화학적 요인 변화에 대한 영향은 적었다. 특히 수생식물의 피도는 어류의 종다양성이나 밀도에 강한 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되었으며, 수변식생이 부족한 습지에서는 어류가 적은 풍부도와 다양성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 기반으로 평가할 때 어류 등의 생물다양성 증진을 위해 호안사면의 높은 인공성이나 수변식생의 부족한 습지 등은 개선이 필요할 것으로 사료되며, 건강성 확보를 위한 지속가능한 관리방안이 마련되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

        Sludge transporting pipes in wastewater treatment plant are easy to be clogged with struvite when the digested sludge and dehydrated filtrate are transported through the pipes, which lowers the efficiency of sludge treatment system in a WWTP. pH is one of the most important factors in struvite formation, and carbon dioxide separated from biogas can be used to control pH and struvite formation. By controlling pH, the amount of dehydrating agent can be reduced by about 10%, which saves the budget for facility maintenance. As CO2 is reused and dehydrating chemicals are saved, the approach can contribute to global warming gas reduction.

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nutritional knowledge and dietary behaviors of middle school students according to their mother’s employment status. Of all 453 subjects, 52.1% were boys, and 67.5% of the mothers were employed. The total score of nutritional knowledge was 8.0 out of 10 for students with a non-working mom and 7.7 for those with a working mom, showing no significant difference. Among the 20 nutritional knowledge questions, correct answer rates for “lots of fruits may be eaten because of not gaining weight” (72.6% vs. 81.6%, p<0.05) and “eating raw carrots is better than eating fried ones with oil” (34.6% vs. 44.9%, p<0.05) were significantly higher in students with a working mom. The regularity of meals showed a significant difference according to the mother’s employment, indicating that responses of “very regular” (62.4% vs. 72.1%) were high among students with a non-working mom and responses of “skipping breakfast” (31.4% vs. 19.7%) were higher in students with a working mom (p<0.05). The number of snacks a day was also significantly different according to the mother’s employment, showing that 12.8% of the students with a working mom and only 3.4% of them with a non-working mom did not eat snacks at all (p<0.05). These results reveal no significant difference in middle school students’ nutritional knowledge according to their mother’s employment status; however, the students whose mother had a job were more likely to have more undesirable dietary behaviors such as irregular meals and snacking.

        Corrosion inhibitors including calcium hydroxide have been used to prevent corrosion in the pipes for tap water supply. The corrosion index (i.e., Langelier Index) differs by area and water quality. The corrosion indices of the areas studied differed by more than 2.0. The ‘homogenized’ calcium hydroxide was added to the treated water at the K water treatment plant, in order to increase the value of the corrosion index and the concentration of calcium. As the result, the concentration of calcium was increased while the turbidity and pH changed little. The corrosion rate of the tap water with the 'homogenized' calcium hydroxide could be slowed down pretty much. The results suggested that the technology of 'homogenization' of calcium hydroxide can applied to tap water and desalinated water to prevent corrosion in water pipes even in corrosive pipes.

        This study aimed to evaluate the genotoxicity of Litsea japonica fruit-hexane extract (LJF-HE). In order to examine the genotoxicity, we carried out bacterial reverse mutation assay, chromosome aberration assay, and a micronucleus induction (MN) test according to the OECD and the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) toxicity test guidelines. In the bacterial reverse mutation assay, no significant increase in revertant colonies, nor bacterial toxicity, was observed in the LJF-HE treatment group, regardless of the absence or presence of metabolic activation by the S9 mixture. However, in the positive control group, revertant colony counts were shown to be more than twice that of the negative control group. The chromosome aberration test showed that the repetition rate of abnormal chromosome aberration was less than 5%, regardless of the treatment time, and with or without the S9 mixture. No significant change was observed when (p < 0.05) compared with the negative control group. The micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MNPCE) repetition rate of the polychromatic erythrocytes (PCE) showed no significant changes when compared with the negative control group (p < 0.05). The PCE portion of total erythrocytes also showed no significant changes (p < 0.05). These results showed that LJF-HE had no significant genotoxic effects.

        During the breeding season, some Eurasian Oystercatchers (Haematopus ostralegus osculans) in Yubu Island foraged in the open mudflat area nearby the breeding ground, instead of the tide water line area, main feeding site throughout the year. We found significant differences in foraging behavior and prey species diversity between the two different feeding site types. Even though the birds took more steps for most probably searching preys, their feeding success was much lower in the open mudflat area than the tide water line area. The multiple peck and boring methods were more frequently adopted to catch polychaetes on the open mudflat area, whereas the single peck method was dominant and gastropods and bivalves were main preys in the tide water line area. This study suggests that the bird shows flexible foraging strategy of shifting feeding site, foraging behavior and preys for better reproductive success.

        Two sewage treatment facilities were selected to identify odor emission characteristics, focusing on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulfur compounds. The complex odor, 5 kinds of sulfur compounds and 23 kinds of VOCs were analyzed from gas and sludge storages. Hydrogen sulfide was detected in the highest concentration and had the highest odor quotient among the odorous compounds monitored in this study, demonstrating that the contribution of hydrogen sulfide to the complex odor reached up to 90%. For VOCs, the overall contribution to the complex odor was not critical but VOCs can sufficiently trigger an odorous sensation because the sum of the odor quotient reached up to 2.89.

        The role played by reservoirs in the biogeochemical cycles of elements is a subject of ongoing debate. Recent research has revealed that reservoirs emit significant levels of greenhouse gases. To assess the importance of reservoirs in monsoon climate areas as a source of methane gas into the atmosphere, we investigated variations in organic carbon (OC) input into the reservoir, oxic state changes, and finally the amount of methane emitted (focusing on the ebullition pathway) in Lake Soyang, which is the largest reservoir in South Korea. Total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations were higher during summer after two years of heavy rainfall. The sedimentation rates of particulate organic carbon (POC) and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) were higher in the epilimnion and hypolimnion than the metalimnioin, indicating that autochthonous and allochthonous carbon made separate contributions to the TOC. During stratification, oxygen depletion occurred in the hypolimnion due to the decomposition of organic matter. Under these conditions, H2S and CH4 can be released from sediment. The methane emissions from the reservoir were much higher than from other natural lakes. However, the temporal and spatial variations of methane ebullition were huge, and were clearly dependent on many factors. Therefore, more research via a well-organized field campaign is needed to investigate methane emissions.

        진해만에서 출현하는 자어에 대한 계절별 군집 변동을 파악하기 위해 2015년과 2016년의 2월(겨울철), 5월(봄철), 8월(여름철), 그리고 11월(가을철)까지 계절별로 수행하였다. 조사기간 동안 출현한 자어는 종 수준까지 총 24과 28종이 출현하였다. 조사기간 동안 출현한 우점종은 청어(Clupea pallasii), 꼼치(Liparis tanakae), 돛양태과 sp. (Callionymidae sp.), 청보리멸(Sillago japonica), 세줄베도라치(Ernogrammus hexagrammus), 그리고 멸치(Engraulis japonica)로 나타났으며, 이들 6종은 조사기간 중 출현한 자어 전체 출현개체수의 77.6%를 차지하였다. 우점종 중 청어와 꼼치는 2015년과 2016년의 겨울철에 출현한 반면에 청보리멸은 여름철에 출현하였다. 종 다양도 지수는 2월과 8월에 높았고 5월에 낮게 나타났다. 조사기간 동안 출현한 자어의 출현개체수를 바탕으로 nMDS 분석을 실시한 결과 계절에 따른 4개의 그룹으로 구분되었다. 본 연구결과 진해만의 자어 군집은 계절에 따른 수온변화와 산란에 참여하는 어종에 따라서 변동하였으며, 잠도와 칠전도 북부해역에서 높은 출현량을 보여 이 지역이 진해만의 주요 산란장으로 이용되고 있음을 의미한다.

        In this study, we consider the assembly line balancing (ALB) problem which is known as an very important decision dealing with the optimal design of assembly lines. We consider ALB problems with soft constraints which are expected to be fulfilled, however they are not necessarily to be satisfied always and they are difficult to be presented in exact quantitative forms. In previous studies, most researches have dealt with hard constraints which should be satisfied at all time in ALB problems. In this study, we modify the mixed integer programming model of the problem introduced in the existing study where the problem was first considered. Based on the modified model, we propose a new algorithm using the genetic algorithm (GA). In the algorithm, new features like, a mixed initial population selection method composed of the random selection method and the elite solutions of the simple ALB problem, a fitness evaluation method based on achievement ratio are applied. In addition, we select the genetic operators and parameters which are appropriate for the soft assignment constraints through the preliminary tests. From the results of the computational experiments, it is shown that the proposed algorithm generated the solutions with the high achievement ratio of the soft constraints.
