This study demonstrates the effect of the compaction pressure on the microstructure and properties of pressureless-sintered W bodies. W powders are synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and hydrogen reduction using ammonium metatungstate hydrate as a precursor. Microstructural investigation reveals that a spherical powder in the form of agglomerated nanosized W particles is successfully synthesized. The W powder synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis exhibits a relative density of approximately 94% regardless of the compaction pressure, whereas the commercial powder exhibits a relative density of 64% under the same sintering conditions. This change in the relative density of the sintered compact can be explained by the difference in the sizes of the raw powder and the densities of the compacted green body. The grain size increases as the compaction pressure increases, and the sintered compact uniaxially pressed to 50 MPa and then isostatically pressed to 300 MPa exhibits a size of 0.71 m. The Vickers hardness of the sintered W exhibits a high value of 4.7 GPa, mainly due to grain refinement.

The synthesis of porous W by freeze-casting and vacuum drying is investigated. Ball-milled WO3 powders and tert-butyl alcohol were used as the starting materials. The tert-butyl alcohol slurry is frozen at –25oC and dried under vacuum at –25 and –10oC. The dried bodies are hydrogen-reduced at 800oC and sintered at 1000oC. The XRD analysis shows that WO3 is completely reduced to W without any reaction phases. SEM observations reveal that the struts and pores aligned in the tert-butyl alcohol growth direction, and the change in the powder content and drying temperature affects the pore structure. Furthermore, the struts of the porous body fabricated under vacuum are thinner than those fabricated under atmospheric pressure. This behavior is explained by the growth mechanism of tert-butyl alcohol and rearrangement of the powders during solidification. These results suggest that the pore structure of a porous body can be controlled by the powder content, drying temperature, and pressure.
The effects of drying temperature on the microstructure of porous W fabricated by the freeze-casting process of tert-butyl alcohol slurry with WO3 powder was investigated. Green bodies were hydrogen-reduced at 800oC for 1 h and sintered at 1000oC for 6 h. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that WO3 powders were completely converted to W without any reaction phases by hydrogen reduction. The sintered body showed pores aligned in the direction of tertbutyl alcohol growth, and the porosity and pore size decreased as the amount of WO3 increased from 5 to 10v ol%. As the drying temperature of the frozen body increased from -25oC to -10oC, the pore size and thickness of the struts increased. The change in microstructural characteristics based on the amount of powder added and the drying temperature was explained by the growth behavior of the freezing agent and the degree of rearrangement of the solid powder during the solidification of the slurry.
The effect of tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) as a freezing solvent on the pore structure of a porous tungsten body prepared by freeze-drying is analyzed. TBA slurries with a WO3 content of 10 vol% are prepared by mixing with a small amount of dispersant and binder at 30oC. The slurries are frozen at -25oC, and pores are formed in the frozen specimens by the sublimation of TBA during drying in air. After hydrogen reduction at 800oC and sintering at 1000oC, the green body of WO3 is completely converted to porous W with various pore structures. Directional pores from the center of the specimen to the outside are observed in the sintered bodies because of the columnar growth of TBA. A decrease in pore directionality and porosity is observed in the specimens prepared by long-duration drying and sintering. The change in pore structure is explained by the growth of the freezing solvent and densification.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand in-depth experiences of role conflict among infection control nurses’ (ICNs) in terms of the gaps between the role expectations and actual roles. Methods: This study was a qualitative study to explore and describe the implications of role conflict experiences of ICNs through a phenomenological approach. One-on-one in-depth interviews were conducted with ICNs who worked as full-time for more than three years in the infection control department, and the results were analyzed using Colaizzi’s (1978) phenomenological method. Results: Topics brought up by the participants were categorized into five themes. The themes included "lack of awareness of infection control", "psychological burden of professional competence", "infectious control not being accepted due to different management and operational goals", "unrelentingly overworked", "shadow labor without adequate compensation", and "The process of earning mutual trust". Conclusion: In order to resolve the role conflict of ICNs, it is necessary to establish a career management system for ICNs and to have an appropriate compensation system.
Purpose: We conducted phenomenological qualitative research to provide in depth understanding on infectious disease management. Methods: Participants were 10 nurses working in an isolation ward, where only patients with infectious diseases were institutionalized in one general hospital in Seoul. Data were collected through individual interviews and analyzed according to Colaizzi data analysis method. Results: The main theme of the experience of the nurses who worked in the isolated ward was ‘Nurse's sense of duty to overcome the fear of infection’. Through 83 meaningful re-statements and 13 themes, three sub-themes including ‘Unstable isolation ward’, ‘Taking care of infected patients’ and ‘Insufficient isolation patient care system’. Conclusion: Nurses, working in the new isolation ward, work in a lonely and dangerous environment having fear of infection, being lack of supplies and overcoming various psychological difficulties. In-depth understanding of these needs require efficient infection management policies, measures, and societal recognition.
PURPOSES : The impact performance of flexible barrier system such as structural response, vehicular motion and occupant safety vary depending on the impact point. Thus, to properly evaluate the performance of a flexible barrier system, impact should be made to a point which will lead to the worst possible results. This point is called the Critical Impact Point (CIP). This paper presents the way to determine the CIP for a SB2 class flexible barrier system which is consisted of Thrie-Beam rail and circular hollow tube post of 2m span. METHODS: Barrier VII simulations were made for impact points; Case 1 at a post, Case 2 at 1/3 span downstream from a post, Case 3 at middle of the span, Case 4 at 2/3 span downstream from a post. For the structural performance (deflections), impact simulation of 8000kg-65km/h-15degree was used, and for vehicle motion and occupant safety, simulation of 1300kg-80km/h-20degree impact was made and analysed. RESULTS: Case 1 gave the largest dynamic deflection of 75.72cm and also gave the largest snag value of 44.3cm. Occupant safety and exit angle of the vehicle after the impact were not sensitive to the impact point and were all below the allowable limit. CONCLUSIONS : For the SB2 class flexible barrier system's CIP can be regarded as a post which is sufficiently away from the end of Length of Need in order to avoid the end-effect of the barrier system. It can be more economic in the long run because the normal concrete pavement material is likely to cost more due to higher probability of maintenance and repair and higher social cost due to traffic accident, etc.
Choline is important an organic compound for normal membrane function, acetylcholine synthesis, lipid transport, and methyl metabolism. In biological tissues and foods, there are multiple choline compounds that contribute to choline content. There are so many analytical methods for choline determination, such as radioisotopic, high-performance liquid chromatography, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. However, these existing methods are expensive, unmanageable, and time-consuming. In this study, we modified enzymatic method, which is applicable for the determination of choline in milk and infant formulas, and applied to bovine serum and muscle. The calibration curves were linear with higher correlation coefficients than 0.994 . Recoveries obtained by calibration curves from the spiked bovine serum and muscle samples varied between 70.6 and 85.2%. The method may be suitable for use as a routine method in the determination of choline for biological tissue and food samples.
