        Stainless steel sludge is generated as a waste in the grinding process, and the possibility of recycling stainless steel is considered here. In this study, we considered the possibility of using the stainless steel sludge as metal powder for MIM or raw material for metal foam. For the MIM process, the metal powder will need some improvement, and flotation and spheroidizing processes of the sludge are necessary. For fabrication of the metal foam, untreated sludge can be used, and steel foam about 90% porosity is produced.

        Austenitic stainless steel has been used as a corrosion resistance material. However, austenitic stainless steel has poor wear resistance property due to its low hardness. In this investigation, we apply powder composite process to obtain hard layer of Stainless steel. The composite material was fabricated from planetary ball milled SUS316L stainless steel powder and WC powder and then sintered by Pulsed Current Sintering (PCS) method. We also added TiC powder as a hard particle in WC layer. Evaluations of wear properties were performed by pin-on-disk wear testing machine, and a remarkable improvement in wear resistance property was obtained.

        Anisotropic constitutive equations for sintering of metal powder compacts have been formulated from a linear viscous transversely-isotropic model in which an anisotropic sintering stress has been introduced to describe free sintering densification kinetics. The identification of material parameters defined in the model, has been achieved from thermomechanical experiments performed on 316L stainless steel warm-compacted powder in a dilatometer allowing controlled compressive loading.

        Likelihood of failure (LOF) for the external corrosion of stainless steel, which affect to a risk of facilities, was analyzed quantitatively through the risk based inspection using API-581 BRD. We found that the technical module subfactor (TMSF) decreased as the inspection number increased and it increased as the inspection effectiveness and the used year increased, and that the TMSF showed high value for the case of the marine/cooling tower drift area as a corrosion driver, In this condition, the LOF for the external corrosion of stainless steel had lower than that for the carbon and low alloy steels

        The application concept of using a fail safety filter on the filtering system is to prevent the particle leakage when the main filter element is broken at high temperature. In this study, the metal filters were fabricated by pressureless sintering method. The mixture of stainless steel powders and filler metal binder solved in the water solutions of 5% PVA was compacted to form the cylindrical filter without pressure. The compacted filter were sintered in the vacuum sintering furnace at 120 for 1 hour. The metal filter(produced with powder of 640-840 size) having more than above 50% porosity, 500 pore size, and permeability of 7.310m plugged within 2.5 minute to prevent the leakage of maximum slip particle size of less than 3.

        최근 양어 양식장은 증가하고 있으며 이러한 곳에 사용할 가열장치는 경울 수온 조절을 위해 사용된다. 해수 가열장치는 부식성이 높고 압력이 높은 곳에 사용하기 위하여 고강도와 내식성이 요구된다. 만약 저강도와 저내식성을 갖게 되면 결국 누설 또는 파손되어 해수오염을 일으킬 수 있다. 대부분의 부식은 정체된 액과 틈이 형성된 부위에서 부식의 발생이 일어난다. 이 연구에서는 430 스테인레스재를 크기 15×20×3mmt에 대하여 1N H2SO4 + 0.05N NaCl용액을 사용하여 틈부식을 시험하였다. 틈의 크기는 0.24×3×15mmL로 하였으며 외부에 300mV전위를 인가하였다. 실험 결과 틈 부식 유기 시간은 750초로 나타나고, 틈 전위 강화는 -320에서 -399mV로 나타나 부식의 주 원인이 전위강화 기구에 의해 발생하였다.

        In this thesis, using the 400 series ferrite stainless steel such as 434LD2 which are furter excellent then the existing ferric products in mechanical characteristics, and experiment has been conducted on corrosion resistance of sensor ring. The results are following. 1. The products before sintering are much more corrodible in the condition of spray test of salt water and ammonia than humidity and nitrogen condition. 2. 434LD2 ferrite stainless steel has shown a good corrosion resistance without an addition surface treatment. thus the decreasing production process has been obtained. 3. As hardness value of HRB 80 and tensile test, 434LD2 ferrite stainless steel with show a good endurance when it is combined to constant velocity joint (c/v joint), and has a good hardness properties endurable to sand and pebble impact.

        For the austenitic stainless steel (304L) manufactured by metal injection molding(MIM), the effects of copper content and sintering temperature on the mechanical properties, antibacterial activities, corrosion resistance, and electric resistances were investigated. The specimens were prepared by injection molding of the premixed powders of water-atomized 304 L and Cu with poly-acetyl binders. The green compacts were prepared with various copper contents from 0 to 10 wt.% Cu, which were debound thermally at 873 K for 7.2 ks in gas atmosphere and subsequently sintered at various temperatures from 1323 K to 1623 K for 7.2 ks in Ar gas atmosphere. The relative density and tensile strength of the sintered compacts showed the minimum values at 5 and 8 wt.% Cu, respectively. Both the relative density and the tensile strength of the specimen with 10 wt.% Cu sintered at 1373 K showed the highest values, higher than those of copper-free specimen. Antibacterial activities investigated by the plastic film contact printing method for bacilli and the quantitative analysis of copper ion dissolved in water increased as the increase of the copper content to stainless steels. It was also verified by the measurement of pitting potential that the copper addition in 304 L could improve the corrosion resistance. Furthermore the electric conductivity increased with the increase of copper content.

        It is well known that the powder injection molding(PIM) process can overcome the shape limitations of traditional powder compaction, the costs of machining, the productivity limits of isostatic pressing and slip casting, and the defect and tolerance limitations of conventional casting. Increasing demands from industry for not only the dimensional accuracy nut mechanical strength in PIMed parts have had much effort focused on the investigation of mechanical properties of mechanical strength in PIMed parts have had much effort focused on the investigation of mechanical properties of sintered parts formed with high-strength metallic powders.         SPS(Spark Plasma Sintering ) is known to be an excellent sintering method for porous materials. In the present work an attempt has been made of fabricating porous 316L Stainless steel with good mechanical properties by using controlled SPS process Porosity was 21%~53% at sintering temperature of ~100 The limit of porosity with available mechanical strength was 30% at given experimental conditions. Porosity can be controlled by manipulating the intial height of the compact by means of the supporter and punch length. The applied pressure can be exerted entirely upon the supporter, giving no influence on the specimen. The specimen is then able to be sintered pressurelessly. In this case porosity could be controlled from 38 to 45% with good mechanical strength at sintering temperature of 90. As the holding time increased, neck between the particles grew progressively, but shrinkage of the specimen did not occur, implying that the porosity remained constant during the whole sintering process.
