The mature silkworms of Bombyx mori L. have recently been regarded as a potential health supplement due to gainingtheir edibility for humans by a newly-developed steaming method. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate theeffects of steamed and lyophilized mature silkworm powder (SMSP) on skin pigmentation and melanogenesis. Orally administeredSMSP significantly and dose-dependently reduced abnormal pigmentation caused by ultraviolet B (UVB) on the murinedorsal skin. SMSP also showed a potential anti-melanogenic efficacy in modulating UVB-induced melanogenesis. Takentogether, SMSP was identified as a potential candidate for a novel anti-melanogenic agent, which showed hypo-pigmentingefficacy against UVB-induced melanogenesis in vivo when administered orally.
Bee venom contains a variety of peptide constituents, including low-molecular-weight protease inhibitors. While the putativelow-molecular-weight serine protease inhibitor Api m 6 containing a trypsin inhibitor-like cysteine-rich domain was identifiedfrom honeybee (Apis mellifera) venom, no anti-fibrinolytic or anti-microbial roles for this inhibitor have been elucidated.In this study, we identified an Asiatic honeybee (A. cerana) venom serine protease inhibitor (AcVSPI) that was shownto act as a microbial serine protease inhibitor and plasmin inhibitor. AcVSPI was found to consist of a trypsin inhibitor-likedomain that displays ten cysteine residues. Interestingly, the AcVSPI peptide sequence exhibited high similarity to the putativelow-molecular-weight serine protease inhibitor Api m 6, which suggests that AcVSPI is an allergen Api m 6-like peptide.Recombinant AcVSPI was expressed in baculovirus-infected insect cells, and it demonstrated inhibitory activity against trypsin,but not chymotrypsin. Additionally, AcVSPI has inhibitory effects against plasmin and microbial serine proteases; however,it does not have any detectable inhibitory effects on thrombin or elastase. Consistent with these inhibitory effects, AcVSPIinhibited the plasmin-mediated degradation of fibrin to fibrin degradation products. AcVSPI also bound to bacterial andfungal surfaces and exhibited anti-microbial activity against fungi as well as gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Thesefindings demonstrate the anti-fibrinolytic and anti-microbial roles of AcVSPI as a serine protease inhibitor.
현재 식용 및 건강보조식품 재료로 사용되고 있는 흰점박이꽃무지는 현재 전국에서 가장 많이 사육되고 있는곤충이며 계속해서 신규 사육농가가 급증하고 있다. 보통의 경우 유충 사료로 미강 등을 첨가한 발효톱밥을 사용하기때문에 사육농가에서 직접 발효할 경우 특정기술이 필요하고 발효톱밥을 구매할 경우 비용이 많이 소요된다. 버섯수확 후 배지는 총질소함량 등 영양성분이 많이 함유되어 있어 발효시키지 않아도 먹이원으로 사용할 수 있다.따라서 특정한 발효기술 없이도 사료를 제공할 수 있어 사료비용 부담을 줄이고 양호한 곤충생육을 도모할 수있을 것으로 판단되어 본 실험을 수행하였다. 버섯 수확 후 배지 급이에 따른 흰점박이꽃무지 유충의 생육특성을알아보기 위해 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지, 표고버섯 수확 후 배지, 그리고 대조구로 참나무 발효톱밥 배지를 각각급이하여 흰점박이꽃무지 유충의 생육을 조사하였다. 각 처리 당 20마리씩 개체사육, 3반복 처리한 결과, 3령 유충말기의 평균 체중은 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지를 급이한 처리구에서 가장 높게 나왔고 유충기간은 새송이버섯수확 후 배지를 급이한 처리구에서 가장 짧았으며 표고버섯 수확 후 배지에서 가장 길었다. 그러므로 흰점박이꽃무지대량 사육 시 먹이원 비용 절감을 위해 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지를 사용하는 것이 가장 효과적인 것으로 판단되었다.
이산화염소(ClO2) 키트를 이용한 식품 저장시설에서의 훈증 상용화 기술개발을 위하여 저장해충들에 대한 훈증효과를 검증하였다. ㈜농심의 원주, 강릉, 안동, 순천, 광주, 전주, 제주물류센터에서 화랑곡나방 유충, 성충, 어리쌀바구미성충, 거짓쌀도둑거저리 성충, 수시렁이류 유충을 대상으로 이산화염소 훈증효과를 조사한 결과, 원주의 경우 처리구에서 3일째 화랑곡나방 성충과 수시렁이 유충 생존률이 0%였으며, 강릉도 각각 13.33, 16.6%로 낮게 나타났다.안동에서는 무처리구에서 화랑곡나방 유충과 성충의 7일째 생존률이 32, 23.33%, 처리구는 10.34, 0%, 화랑곡나방성충과 어리쌀바구미 성충의 경우 순천 처리구에서 8일째 모두 0%였으며, 광주 처리구에서는 각각 8일, 9일째0%, 전주 처리구에서도 각각 9일, 8일째 0%로 무처리구보다 생존율이 낮았다. 7곳의 물류센터에서 이산화염소처리구에서 대상해충들의 생존률이 낮게 조사되어 이산화염소의 방충효과가 있는 것으로 판단되었다.
방충포장 상용화를 위하여 천연 해충기피물질을 이용한 박스 포장용 방충소재를 개발하고 이것의 유통, 보관중 제품 박스로의 해충침입 억제 효과를 시험하였다. 라면박스 포장을 접착제 중량대비 1, 3, 5%의 농도로 기피물질을처리한 OPP 테이프로 포장한 후 화랑곡나방 유충에 대한 기피효과를 조사한 결과, 박스 내에서 발견되는 개체수가처리농도 1%, 3%에서 무처리구에 비해 낮게 조사되었다. 특히, 처리농도 1%에서 기피효과가 크게 나타났으며골판지 내부(무처리: 47, 1%: 23마리)에서의 차이가 뚜렷하였다. 이러한 결과는 기피물질을 고농도로 처리한 경우기피물질 함량이 높아 밀폐된 실험공간에서 처리구의 기피물질 향이 확산되어 무처리구에도 영향을 준 것으로판단되었으나 일반적인 유통, 보관환경에서는 장기적으로 해충 기피효과를 발휘할 것으로 판단되었다.

Put the BSF larva 45,000 into the Python regius carcass showeddecomposition takes 9 days, wight was decreased rate to 67%. Put A-1,2,3 survival BSF larva dived half into pig feces,carcass. Pig carcass, feces each 6.35kg decomposition take 12 days, 14 days, wight decreased rate to 58.8%, 63.2%, Survivalrate showed to 4.87%, 85.6%, one larva per 1.16g, 2.26g pig carcass, feces take decomposition. Since the lack of food,BSF larva didn’t grow more than the pig carcass feed group, extra in 6kg of pig feces feed. Amount pig feces take12.35kg decomposition during 32 days. Manure make 4.2kg.
To investigate the proper eclosion condition of Black Soldier Fly(BSF), Hermetia illucens was investigated the eclosionperiod and rate by cluster size and temperature for 3 weeks. Respectively, ten pupaes were added to the pupae(FTP)and rice husk (TTR) at 25℃, also treated only with pupae(TTR) and rice husk (TTR) at 30℃. In addition, Four hundredpupaes of each pupa were treated with only pupa (SP) and rice husk(SR) at 25℃, while was tested only pupa(TP) andrice husk(TR) at 30℃. As a result of the small group experiment, the FTR group showed the highly rate of emergencerate of 96.6%, which was more efficiently than other treatments, and also, TR group showed of highly efficiency (96.25%).Compared to the small group experiment, the algebra rate and algebra rate averaged 1.1 days faster and increased by13.3%. Two experimental results showed that eclosion rate was influenced by temperature and eclosionrate by shelter.
The developmental responses of insects to temperature are important considerations in gaining a better understandingof their ecology and life histories. Temperature dependent models permit examination of the effect of temperature onthe geographical distributions, population dynamics, and management of insects. The measurements of insect developmentaland survival responses to temperature pose practical challenges that depend. The developmental characteristics of A. diaperinuswere investigated at four temperature regimes (20, 25, 30 and 35℃), a relative humidity of 60%, and a light:dark photoperiodof 16:8h. The developmental time from larva to adult was 129.0, 49.8, 40.5 and 31.9 days at temperatures of 20, 25,30 and 35℃, respectively. Pupal rate was 80.0%, 100%, 83.3% and 91.7% at temperatures of 20, 25, 30 and 35 respectively.There is an increasing need for a standardized manual for rearing this. Pupa had significantly lower weights at 35℃than at the other temperatures. Female pupae (20mg) were significantly heavier than male pupae (17mg).
Under natural conditions, black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), colonizes in warm temperateregions. Information on black soldier fly rearing, which is affected by seasonal factors in Korea, is limited. Ovipositionby black soldier flies is dependent on light intensity and wavelength. Therefore, continuous mass rearing of this fly requiresdetermination of optimal artificial conditions of illumination. In this study, we compared the number of eggs laid underan artificial light source (750 watt HPL lamp) versus nature sunlight. Our results showed that compared to ovipositionunder natural sunlight, the use of one or two lamps for 7 hours, resulted in only 43 and 76%, of the total number ofeggs laid under natural sunlight, respectively. The hatching rate under the former was much significantly lower than underthe latter.
Although the grasshopper Oxya chinensis sinuosa has long been used as a food in Korea, there is little data on itsfunctional effects. Thus we prepared and analyzed total RNA from the whole body of adult Escherichia coli non-immunizedand immunized Oxya chinensis sinuosa strains. Using an Illumina Hiseq sequencer, we generated a total of 66,555 pooledtranscriptome and singletons with and without Escherichia coli immunization, respectively. Then, we performed in silicoanalysis of the Oxya chinensis sinuosa transcriptome, using bioinformatics tools for screening putative antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) and 38 AMPs were finally selected and tested their antimicrobial activity of Gram positive, Gram negative bacteriaand antifungal activity with radial diffusion assay. As a result, 5 out of 38 AMPs showed the highest antimicrobial activityand antifungal activity against microbes and it also evidenced with no hemolytic activity.
The dynastid beetle Allomyrina dichotoma has been used as a herbal medicine. Recently, we performed de novo RNAsequencing of Allomyrina dichotoma and identified several antimicrobial peptide candidates based on in silico analysis.Among them, cationic antimicrobial peptide, Allomyrinasin, was selected and we assessed the anti-inflammatory activitiesof Allomyrinasin against mouse macrophage Raw264.7 cells. The results showed that Allomyrinasin decreased the nitricoxide production of the lipopolysaccharide-induced Raw264.7 cells. In addition, quantitative RT-PCR, ELISA and Westernblot analysis revealed that Allomyrinasin reduced cytokine expression levels in the Raw264.7 cells. Taken together, thesedata indicated that Allomyrinasin had anti-inflammatory activity in the lipopolysaccharide-induced Raw264.7 cells.
We have analyzed the transcriptome of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans using RNA sequencing and identified severalantimicrobial peptide candidates. Among the peptides, named scolopendrasins, were selected based on the physicochemicalproperties of antimicrobial peptides via an in silico analysis. As a result, we evaluated the antimicrobial activities ofscolopendrasins against Gram positive and negative bacteria including Candida albicans by radial diffusion assay and colonycount assay. We also investigated the cytotoxicity of scolopendrasins through hemolysis assay. We found that the actionof scolopendrasins involved binding to the surface of microorganisms via a specific interaction with lipopolysaccharides,lipoteichoic acid, and peptidoglycans, which are components of the bacterial membrane. These results will provide a basisfor developing therapeutic agents such as peptide antibiotics.
The exosomes are the most studied nanometer-sized extracellular vesicles (40-100 nm) in eukaryotic cell. Exosomeharbors various molecular components of their cell origin, including nucleic acids and proteins, and it is involved in intraand intercellular communication. These characteristics make exosomes to be a prospective biomarkers, therapeutic agents,or drug delivery vehicles. Edible insect industry is rapidly growing up in Korea. The insect exosomes were isolated fromthe larvae of Korean rhinoceros beetle, Allomyrina dichotoma, and White-spotted flower chafer, Protaetia brevitarsis, sothat they can be used for diagnosis of insect disease. The stable preservation of exosome is very important for diagnosisand research, especially for long term storage. Here, the stable recovery of exosome isolated from hemolymph of A. dichotomalarva was evaluated by analyzing exosomal protein and RNA after storage in -70°C for three months.
Insects are attracting the attention of alternative sources of protein. In order to produce high quality insects, studieson the development of safe and nutritious feed sources are needed. Given the cost of rearing insects, agricultural andindustrial by-products were good materials of insect feed. In the current study, Citrus unshiu peel (CP), soybean curdcake (SCC), soybean oil meal (SOM), and brewers dried grain (BDG) were investigated for their effects on larval growthand development of Protaetia brevitarsis. Interestingly, larvae fed on 10% SCC increased their weight by 3.5 times. Forthe larval period, they were significantly shorter than the control. Furthermore, minerals and amino acids were recordedto be high in them. The heavy metals were not detected in any of the investigated groups. These findings provided ascientific basis for the utilization of soybean curd cake as a nutritional feed source to promote larval growth and producequality insects.
We have surveyed the current status of insect pollinator use for horticultural crops in 2016. The use rate and farmnumber of insect pollinators for 26 horticultural crops were 25.8% and 55,208, respectively. The colony number of insectpollinators used in this survey was 479,777, which include 344,690 for honeybees, 119,104 for bumblebees, 2,415 formason bees, 1,317 for flies, and 2,415 for the combination of bumblebees, honeybees, and mason bees. The use rateof insect pollinators was 59.4% for 11 vegetable crops and the colony number of insect pollinators used for 11 vegetablecrops was 449,287. The colony number of insect pollinators used for 15 fruit tree crops was 30,290, which include honeybees(66.3%), bumblebees (20.2%), mason bees (8.0%), flies (1.6%), and the combination (3.9%) of bumblebees, honeybees,and mason bees. Together, farms of 98% showed positive effect for the use of insect pollinators and most of farms (97.0%)planed for the continuous use of insect pollinators
We investigated pollination properties of bumblebees in a high temperature condition i. e. a greenhouse where onions(Aliumcepa) were cultivated. Foraging activity of bumblebee workers decreased at temperature over 33 ℃ and was negativelycorrelated with colony temperature. Fanning behavior was observed at temperature over 30 ℃ and was positively correlatedwith colony temperature. There was negative correlation between the number of bees fanning and bees foraging. We expectedthat foraging activity would be affected by colony temperature and fanning behavior. The temperature of the coloniesthat were ventilated using the cooler fan was 3 ℃ lower than the control colonies, and the rate of fanning behaviorwere 9 times lower in ventilated colonies than in the control colonies. Foraging activity and survival rates of workerbees in ventilated colonies doubled compared to the control colonies
양평군 잣나무림 간벌지에서 수집한 잣나무 이목으로부터 우화 탈출한 북방수염하늘소(Monochamus saltuarius)성충을 격리된 우화망실에 방사한 후 우화 경과일에 따른 집합페로몬 루어(monochamol + -pinene + ethanol)트랩에 유인 포획되는 시기를 비교하였다. 우화직후에는 모든 개체가 집합페로몬 루어에 유인되지 않았으나, 후식1일차에는 암컷 2.5%, 수컷 2.5%가 유인 포획되었고, 후식 7일차에는 암컷 41.9%, 수컷 25.0%가 유인 포획되었으며,교미 후에는 암컷 7.5%, 수컷 15.0%가 유인되었다. 북방수염하늘소 성충의 집합페로몬 루어에 유인되는 시기는충분한 후식과 밀접한 관련이 있으며, 특히 암컷의 경우 교미 유무에 따라 유인효과에 큰 차이를 보였다. 한편,후식 경과에 따른 성충 암컷의 복부를 해부하여 난(卵) 성숙도를 분석한 결과 우화직후와 후식 1일차에는 성숙된알이 전혀 없었으며, 후식 7일차에는 5.6개, 교미 후에는 6.8개로 확인되었다. 그러나, 집합페로몬 루어 트랩에포획된 개체와 미포획 개체 간에는 성숙된 알의 수량에 유의미한 차이는 없었다.
The hawthorn spider mite, Amphitetranychus viennensis (Zacher), is an important tetranychid causing damage on fruittrees and woody ornamental plants. We investigated the effect of a mycoinsecticide BotaniGard® ES at different humiditylevels on the eggs and adults mortality of A. viennensis. In a laboratory condition, egg mortality was significantly influencedby the conidial concentration and RHs. Highest mortality of eggs was observed at 1×108 conidia/ml with 95% RH thanother conditions. In 1×108 conidia/ml, LT50 at 95 and 75% RH were significantly different from 55% RH. In BotaniGard®spray in cherry plants, mites decreased on day 6 at all the concentrations, but the mite populations rebounded exceptin 1×109 conidia/ml where it maintained 0 until 9 days after spraying. It is therefore concluded that B. bassiana hasa potential to be used against A. viennensis
꾸지뽕은 플라보노이드, 가바, 루틴 등이 함유되어 있는 것으로 알려졌으며, 전남에서 약 80㏊를 재배중이고,신안에서 꾸지뽕 잎을 이용하여 누에를 사육하고 있으나 기술 부족으로 많은 애로사항을 가지고 있다. 본 연구는꾸지뽕 잎을 먹여 기르는 누에의 적정 사육시기를 구명하고자 하였다. 누에사육은 누에떨기부터 3령까지 뽕잎을먹이고 4령부터 5령3일까지 꾸지뽕 잎을 먹였다. 사육시기별 유충기간은 5월에 20일 23시간, 6월에 21일 23시간,7월에 17일 4시간, 8월에 15일 2시간으로 7, 8월 사육 때 3~4일 단축되었고, 일반뽕을 먹인 누에와 거의 차이가없었다. 5령 3일까지 생존율은 5월 95.3%, 6월 63.2%, 7월 96.1%, 8월 97.6%로 6월에만 생존율이 낮았다. 유충체장은 5월 55.8㎜, 6월 46.7㎜, 7월 55.0㎜, 8월 59.8㎜로 8월에 가장 컸으나 두폭은 시기별로 차이가 나지 않았다.유충 무게는 5월 2.0g, 6월 1.6g, 7월 2.0g, 8월 2.3g으로 8월 사육 때 가장 높았다.
