For zero inventory and mixed assembly production, JIT (Just In Time) production system in Toyota and JIS (Just-In-Sequence) production system in Hyundai motor co. have been proposed in automobile production areas. Even though the production systems are popular in the areas, many subcontract companies producing part-modules for final production at a parent company suffers from excessive or shortage amount of inventory due to the time gap of production and delivery to the parent company. In this study, we propose an efficient real-time assembly sequence system applying a well-known Pareto method using Paint-In information in painting process and daily production planning information. Based on this system, a production line can estimate the shortage amount of UPH (Units Per Hour) at production line and recovers the amount before operating assembly production in the line. The proposed system provides efficiency on productivity compared with the previous system.
Most of metal cutting and processing companies are going through the difficulties such as frequent downtime and high failure rates by missing times to replace parts of CNC equipment. The reason is that the correct operation times of expensive CNC equipment can’t be calculated. In this paper, to solve this problem, we try to construct the intelligent production information system for a case company and analyze its expected effects. The effects are as follows. First, it saves money about 3 million won each year during the useful life of three years by reducing downtime and failure rates, and increasing production rates etc. Second, it makes easily find and fix the cause of faulty through traceability of the production process, and enables to perform a systematic facility management through the calculation of reliable equipment’s overall efficiency. This case can be easily applied in similar industries, and will contribute greatly to enhancing the competitiveness of related industries.
This paper examines, from the perspective of the structure-conduct-performance (S-C-P) paradigm, the structural factors that determine R&D concentration in industries. The results are as follows. First, an industry’s R&D concentration is directly related to its market concentration, R&D intensity, capital intensity, and technological opportunities. In contrast, the higher an industry’s performance, the more likely the diffusion of R&D investment is for firms belonging to that industry. Second, an industry’s R&D concentration has a positive effect on its market concentration but a negative effect on its performance, suggesting that governments should adopt R&D policies that would induce more firms to invest in R&D instead of focusing only on a few firms to enhance industry performance.
Domestic 105㎜ HE (High Explosive) shell is composed of three parts that are Fuze, Projectile and Propellants. Among three parts, propelling charge of propellants part consists of single base propellants. It has been known that the lifespan of single base propellants is affected by a storage period. These are because Nitrocellulose (NC) which is the main component of propelling gunpowder can be naturally decomposed to unstable substances similar with other nitric acid ester. Even though it cannot be prevented fundamentally from being disassembled, a decomposition product (NO2, NO3, and HNO3) and tranquillizer DPA (Diphenylamine) having high reactivity are added into a propellant to restrain induction of automatic catalysis by a decomposition product. The decay rate of the tranquillizer is also affected by a production rate of the decomposition product of NC. Therefore, an accurate prediction of the Self-Life is required to ensure against risks such as explosion. Hereupon, this paper presents a new methodology to estimate the shelf-life of single base propellants using data of ASRP (Ammunition Stockpile Reliability Program) to domestic 105mm HE (propelling charge of propellants part). We selected four attributes that are inferred to have influence on distribution of the DPA amount in a propellant from the ASRP dataset through data mining processes. Then the selected attributes were used as independent variables in a regression analysis in order to estimate the shelf-life of single base propellants. 1)
In this paper, we deal with a single machine scheduling problems integrating with step deterioration effect and a rate-modifying activity (RMA). The scheduling problem assumes that the machine may have a single RMA and each job has the processing time of a job with deterioration is a step function of the gap between recent RMA and starting time of the job and a deteriorating date that is individual to all jobs. Based on the two scheduling phenomena, we simultaneously determine the schedule of step deteriorating jobs and the position of the RMA to minimize the makespan. To solve the problem, we propose a hybrid typed genetic algorithm compared with conventional GAs.
Because of the changing educational environments, Korean universities have to stand up to the challenge of enhancing their performances in educational activities. Therefore, Korean universities should seek ways to improve its competitiveness. The evaluation of Korean universities has been conducted by the Government and other media agencies like JoongAng’s Daily to promote the development of universities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the relative efficiency of Korean universities using DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) models. To produce reasonable results, major input and output variables have been determined in a step using a Profiling method, Spearman correlation analysis and AHP model. Also, this study shows that the relative efficiency for Korean universities is obtained not only based on quantity of output, but also on the basis of the quality of the output. Drawing upon the results of the analysis, this study provides a comprehensive and practical method for evaluating the performance of universities in terms of efficiency.
We show how a supplier can peg cost measures to the reliability of his time guarantees via the penalty costs considered in the framework. The framework also enables us to study the connections between the logistics network and the market. In this context, we show that even when the market base increases significantly, the supplier can still use the logistics network designed to satisfy lower demand density, with only a marginal reduction in profit. Finally we show how the framework is useful to evaluate and compare various logistics system improvement strategies. The supplier can then easily choose the improvement strategy that increases his profit with the minimal increase in his logistics costs.
To establish a new creative economy, the worldwide efforts have been made to wriggle out the old economic paradigm after the financial crisis of 2008. When it comes to the limitation of the viability. the start up companies have a high risk of failure. Therefore business incubator (BI) should carry out the role to improve their viability. As for the maximization of the effect on the business incubating services as move in companies, it is important for BI to increase the level of business incubating services by the systemic and scientific measurement. This study showed that the quality of the BI center services was measured by Kano analysis and the previous research as follows. First, BI quality attribute by Timko’s customer satisfaction came out into the attractive qualities on the 14 items that amount to the 70% of 20 business incubating services items. It is desirable to perform the strategy for the satisfaction. Secondly, basic business incubating services were interpreted as the one-dimensional quality like incubating spaces, parking facilities, security facilities, industry technology development funds, and incubating managers. Finally, training and educational service was recognized as indifferent quality. Futhermore, the improvement and the limitation of this study as well as the interpretation of analysis results are also provided.
The government expands its investment on R&D programs for economic growth, thus there is growing attention on the result of R&D Programs. This study proposes more improved measuring method for efficiency when the number of R&D programs is not enough to be for measuring efficiency analysis. It provides more various application method of factors on efficiency analysis. This study analyzes the influence of each input factor on efficiency by using partial efficiency concept. And it also determines input factors in similar influence throughout Spearman correlation coefficient. Finally, it suggests new method to improve discriminatory power of efficiency analysis by determining representative factors. Also, the proposed method can be practiced not only for national R&D programs, but also for other fields of research.
Platform-based product family design is recognized as an effective method to satisfy the mass customization which is a current market trend. In order to design platform-based product family successfully, it is the key work to define a good product platform, which is to identify the common modules that will be shared among the product family. In this paper the clustering analysis using dendrogram is proposed to capture the common modules of the platform. The clustering variables regarding both marketing and engineering sides are derived from the view point of top-down product development. A case study of a cordless drill/drive product family is presented to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the overall procedure developed in this research.

This paper considers a scheduling problem in a two-machine flowshop with outsourcing strategy incorporated. The jobs can be either processed in the first machine or outsourced to outside subcontractors. This paper wants to determine which jobs to be processed in-house and which jobs to be outsourced. If any job is decided to be outsourced, then an additional outsourcing cost is charged The objective of this paper is to minimize the sum of scheduling cost and outsourcing cost under a budget constraint. At first this paper characterizes some solution properties, and then it derives solution procedure including DP (Dynamic Programming) and B&B (Branch-and-Bound) algorithms and a greedy-type heuristic. Finally the performance of the algorithms are evaluated with some numerical tests.
When evaluating effectiveness of a program, there is a tendency to simply compare the performances of the treated before and after the program or to compare the differences in the performances of the treated and the untreated before-after the program. However, these ways of evaluating effectiveness have problems because they can’t account for environmental changes affecting the treated and/or effects coming from the differences between the treated and the untreated. Therefore, in this paper, panel data analysis (fixed effects model) is suggested as a means to overcome these problems and is utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of fusion technology program conducted by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea. As a result, it turns out that the program has definitely positive impacts on the beneficiary in terms of sales, R&D expenditure, and employment.
This paper is to analyze the cycle time of the vendor in a single-vendor multi-buyers supply chain. The vendor is the manufacturer and the buyers are the retailers. The cycle time of the vendor is the elapse time from the beginning time of the production to the beginning time of the next production. The cycle time of the vendor that minimizes the total cost in a supply chain is analyzed. The cost factors are the production setup cost and the inventory holding cost of the vendor, the ordering cost and the inventory holding cost of the retailers. The cycle times of the vendor obtained with the costs of the vendor is compared with those obtained with the costs of the vendor and the retailers. Various numerical examples are tested if the cycle times of the vendor for both methods are the same.
