        Known for its effectiveness in weight loss and diabetes prevention, Gymnema sylvestre products can be found in the US, Japanese, and Indian markets. However, the recommended dosage or safety of these products has not yet been proven. Therefore, development of an analytical method for detecting the content of Gymnema sylvestre in food products is required. Accordingly, this study proposes an analysis method that can examine Gymnema sylvestre in food using LC-ESI-MS/MS and KASP (Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR) markers. In LC-ESI-MS/MS, a simultaneous analysis method for gymnemic acid and deacylgymnemic acid was optimized using negative ionization mode, and its validation test was completed for solid and liquid samples. In addition, KASP markers were prepared by finding the specific SNP of G. sylvestre in ITS2 and matK through DNA barcodes. The two KASP markers returned positive FAM fluorescence result when combined with G. sylvestre, and this aspect was confirmed in raw G. sylvestre as well. The applicability of the method was tested on 21 different food and healthy functional products containing G. sylvestre purchased on the internet. As a result, although there was a difference in the ratios of gymnemic acid and deacylgymnemic acid in LC-ESI-MS/MS, the index component was detected in all 21 products samples. In the KASP analysis, 9 products returned positive FAM result, and the rest of the products were found to be containing G. sylvestre extract. This study is the first study to use the dual system of LC-ESI-MS/MS and KASP for the analysis of G. sylvestre. The study has confirmed that these two methods are applicable to the examine G. sylvestre content in food products.

        Robots for a wide range of purposes have been developed along with the rapid industrialization. On the basis of higher convenience, the robots have been creating new industrial environment. The robots are generally classified into service robots and industrial robots. Robots in various shapes have been developed on the basis of the autonomous mobile robots. The autonomous mobile robots have the possibility to crash against any object in their moving range. This paper suggests a collision avoidance method to prevent collision of robots. The collision avoidance method analyzes the road context data and makes a robot move to a safe area. The collision avoidance method proposed in this paper converts the road context data into the information value. The collision avoidance method analyzes the present risk on the basis of the converted information value. The collision avoidance method makes a robot move to a safe area when crash is estimated by the information analysis.

        This study is an empirical research to find out the effect on the management performance of hidden champions of food manufacturing companies when using blue ocean strategy for new product development. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey on hidden champions in the domestic food manufacturing industry and proceeded empirical analysis. When small and medium-sized enterprises in food manufacturing industries develop a new product, searching for non-customer, rebuilding the market boundary, and linking the external networks have a significant impact on their management performance. However, the fair procedure did not have a significant effect on the management performance. In terms of relative influence, rebuilding the market boundary was most affecting, followed by searching for non-customer and linking the external networks. On the other hand, this study implicated the management performance of hidden champions of food manufacturing industries when new products is developed by using the blue ocean strategy. Obtained results are as follows. If small and medium-sized enterprises of food manufacturing industries develop new products, it will be able to improve the management performance by utilizing strategies such as searching for non-customer, rebuilding the market boundary, and linking the external networks. In particular, the rebuilding the market boundary among the blue ocean strategies has a relatively high impact on management performance.

        Traditional wastewater research mainly focuses on 1) estimating the amount of waste entering sewage treatment facilities, 2) evaluating the treatment efficiency of sewage facilities, 3) investigating the role of sewage treatment effluent as a point source, and 4) designing and managing sewage treatment facilities. However, since wastewater contains a variety of chemical and biological substances due to the discharge of human excreta and material used for daily living into it, the collective constituents of wastewater are likely a reflection of a community’s status. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), an emerging and promising field of study that involves the analysis of substances in wastewater, can be applied to monitor the state of a defined community. WBE provides opportunities for exploiting indicators in wastewater to fulfill various objectives. The data analyzed under WBE are those pertaining to selected natural and anthropogenic substances in wastewater that are a result of the discharge of metabolic excreta, illicit or legal drugs, and infectious pathogens into the wastewater. This paper reviews recent progress in WBE and addresses current challenges in the field. It primarily discusses several representative applications including the investigation of drug consumption across different communities and the management of community disease and health. Finally, it summarizes established indicators for WBE.

        If information representativeness is given to an information network, users can easily see what representative information the site has, and it helps in reducing unnecessary time during information search. This paper proposes the generating representative information method which utilizes the degree of coupling of information and the weighted information value in order to solve various problems which occur in the information network. The generating representative information method measures the degree of coupling of the information by utilizing the attribute information and page information expressed on the information network and generates the representative information by calculating the weighted information value of the information network. are also presented.

        This paper proposes an information maximization method to extract useful informations for streaming signals. The information maximization method is to extract signals using stream partitioning function and standard normalization function. The stream partitioning function divides streaming signals into intervals. Signal coefficient and interval coefficient are used at generating a interval by using stream partitioning function. Signal coefficient determines the quantity of data included in a signal interval. Interval coefficient determines the starting point of a signal interval. The standard normalization function determines a signal range by using the probability density function for streaming signals. The information maximization method becomes resistant to outliers and missing values. A normal signal can be extracted effectively for streaming signals by the Information maximization method. The effectiveness of proposed method are also presented by several experimental results.

        This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Nelumbo nucifera G. (NN) powder on cookie quality characteristics. The cookies were made with various NN powder levels (1, 3, and 5%). Crude fiber, crude ash, and the Mg contents of cookies with added NN powder were higher in concentration than those of the control group. Salinity of NN-powder added groups was not significantly different when it was compared with the control group's salinity. No significant difference among the groups were observed for specific volume, but the width determined by water content in the dough decreased as the amount of added NN powder increased. The L-value of the cookies was significantly larger than that of the control group. The a- and b-values were the highest for the 5% substituted NN flour. According to the sensory evaluation of the cookies, scores for color, flavor, and texture increased with increasing amounts of added NN powder. The overall acceptance of the 3% NN added cookies was greater than that of the 1 and 5% cookies.

        A method was established for the simultaneous determinatioin of sugar alcohols, erythritol, xylitol,sorbitol, inositol, mannitol, maltitiol, lactitol and isomalt by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The sugar alcohols were converted into strong ultraviolet (UV)-absorbing derivatives with p-nitrobenzoyl chloride (PNBC). HPLC was performed on Imtakt Unison US-C18 column, using acetonitrile : water (77:23) as a mobile phase and UV detection (260 nm). The calibration curves for all sugar alcohols tested were linear in the 10~200 mg/L range. The average recoveries of the sugar alcohols from three confectioneries spiked at 100 ppm of eight sugar alcohol standards ranged from 81.2 to 123.1% with relative standard deviations ranging fromo 0.2 to 4.9%. The limits of detection (LODs) were 0.5~8 μg/L and the limits of quantification (LOQs) were 2~17 μg/L. Reproducibility of 8 sugar alcohols was 0.28~1.97 %RSD. The results of the analysis of confectioneries showed that 89 samples of 130 were detected and the sugar alcohols content of samples investigated varied between 0.4 and 693.7 g/kg. A method for the simultaneous determination of eight sugar alcohols will be used as basic data for control of sugar alcohols in confectioneries, and qualilty control in food manufacturing.

        The bactericidal efficacy of three common sanitizers (100 or 200 ppm of sodium hypochlorite, 100or 200 ppm of n-alkyl(C12-C18)benzyldimethyl chloride, and 50 or 100 ppm of peroxyacetic acid) against Escherichia coli ATCC 10536 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 was studied using the suspension test method at various exposure temperatures (4~40℃) and times(1~60min) under both dirty and clean conditions, respectively. During the suspension tests, sodium hypochlorite (200 ppm) showed higher bactericidal activity than the other sanitizers under clean conditions, with 5 log reductions against E. coli as well as S. aureus in the first 1 min of treatments at 4℃. However,the efficacy of sodium hypochlorite decreased markedly under dirty conditions due to its susceptibility to interfering substances. The efficacy of the n-alkyl(C12-C18)benzyldimethyl chloride increased considerable as the exposure temperature and time increased. The bactericidal efficacy of the n-alkyl(C12-C18)benzyldimethyl chloride might be less effective on low temperature, however, the longer time the sanitizer is in contact, the more effective the sanitization effect. Treatment with peroxyacetic acid (100 ppm) showed at least 5 log reduction against E. coli and S. aureus for 5min at 4℃ under both clean and dirty conditions. The efficacy of the peroxyacetic acid was not much altered by interfering substances and affected by changes in temperature or time.

        The method for the determination of ethylenediamine (EDA) and hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) in food simulants was developed, and migration amounts of these compounds was monitored for 124 polyamide (PA) utensils. The diurethane derivatives of EDA and HMDA, which produced by reaction with ethyl chloroformate,were analyzed by using gas chromatograph (GC)/flame ionization detector (FID) and GC/mass spectrometer (MS). The developed method was validated with 0.3 μg/mL of limit of detection (LOD) for EDA and 0.1 μg/mL of LOD for HMDA, > 0.999 of linearity(r2) and > 88% of recovery. The EDA was detected 1.31 and 2.06 μg/mL for 2samples in water. The HMDA was detected 0.29 - 0.93 μg/mL for 3 samples in 20% ethanol and 0.26 - 0.44 μg/mL for 10 samples in n-heptane. These migration levels were below the specific migration limits (SML) of 12 μg/mL and 2.4 μg/mL for EDA and HMDA established in EU.

        Usually, bacterial spores are hundreds or thousands of times more resistant to chemical sanitizers than are vegetable bacteria. Consequently, it is hard to assess whether a commercial sterilant, containing hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid as ingredients, has or does not have sporicidal activity under certain conditions using the National Standard Test Method for assessing bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Hence we established alternative the standard test method and requirements to determine whether they are effective in showing at least reduction of 103 in the number of Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 spores under the required test condition for evaluation of sporicidal activity including verification methodology. This standardized method has proved to be suitable for evaluating effectiveness of commercial sterilants and could be used as Standardization Test Method for assessing sporicidal activity.

        In order to cope with risk issues of overseas on 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane (4,4'-MDA) known to used in the production of polyamide resins, we investigated on 4,4'-MDA migration from plastic cooking utensils. 93 samples of plastic cooking utensils were collected from the retail markets in 7 major cities of Korea during March to June, 2007 and 4,4'-MDA levels migrated to food simulants, water, 4% acetic acid, 20% ethanol and n-heptane, on plastic cooking utensils was quantified by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). 4,4'- MDA was detected in 14 samples, and the levels of 4,4'-MDA migrated to food simulants were in the range of 0.001 ~ 0.026 ppm. Among them, the 4,4'-MDA migration amounts of 2 samples were above 0.01 ppm defined by the EU.

        현재 미국 및 유럽에서 공정시험법중 하나로 인정되고 있는 표면시험법을 사용하여 유기물과 함께 또는 유기물없이 세균만 건조된 식품접촉 표면에 서의 살균소독제 유효성에 대한 정보를 제공하고자 식품접촉표면으로 사용되는 스테인리스, 폴리프로필렌 및 실리콘에 Escherochia coli ATCC 10536 또는 Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538을 접종하고 살균소독제로서 염화벤잘코늄, 차아염소산나트륨 또는 에탄올을 20 ℃에서 5분간 처리하였다. 그 결과, 각 표면의 종류는 살균소독제의 유효성에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 200 ppm 농도의 염화벤잘코늄 및 차아염소산나트륨은 유기물질이 존재할 경우 생균수를 4 cfu log10/carrier 이상 감소시키지 못하였으나, 40% 에탄올은 생균수를 4 cfu log10/carrier 이상 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.

        The levels of sulfites in wooden chopsticks were analyzed using two different methods, distillation- alkali titration and ion chromatography. According to the two methods, Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) was validated by 0.6 and 0.2 μg/ml of limit of detection (LOD), 1.8 and 0.5 μg/ml of limit of quantification, (LOQ) and a R² > 0.998 for linearity, respectively. The recoveries of SO₂ from food simulants spiked ar levels of 100 ppm were 70.2-100.2%. 158 samples of wooden chopsticks were monitored the migrated amounts of sulfites. Sulfites were detected in 30 samples in ranged of 0.6 to 15.5 ppm. Maximum migration level, 15.5 ppm of sulfites was considered giving no harmful effect to human since it was reached 5.5% of estimated SML.

        The purpose of this study is to show that using practical vocabulary learning activities can stimulate EFL learners" vocabulary enhancement through making sentences. Language practice with productive lexical output can be a very helpful way for EFL students to integrate their prior linguistic knowledge with newly-gained words, which will enhance their communicative performance. One hundred twenty students (n=120) performed two different activities (sentence-building with instructional feedback and rote-memorization), and their performances were examined by the text length in terms of lexical proficiency. The results of this study reveal that the experimental group (n=60) with sentence-building with instructional feedback seemed to evoke their lexical input and output together and did better at both than the control group (n=60) with rote-memorization. In vocabulary knowledge enhancement, the experiment group showed that they were likely to transfer a large amount of vocabulary they practiced to their language output effectively. With respect to vocabulary performance, the experimental group formed more meaningful structures with a longer sentence than the control group. This study implies that sentence-building as a language practice can be an effective way to incorporate a learner"s lexical knowledge into meaningful language use, and can lead to better communicative performance in English.

        The major component of green tea is (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate(EGCG) which accounts for 5080% of catechin, representing 200300 mg in a brewed cup of green tea. EGCG has been known to possess growth inhibitory and pro-apoptotic effect on human cancer cell lines such as prostate, bladder and breast cancers. In contrast, several studies have suggested that EGCG could promote cell proliferation and/or survival instead of pro-apoptotic effect. Understanding how intracellular signaling pathways respond to EGCG may provide a clue to the difference of cell responses and basis for usefulness of EGCG as a chemopreventive and/or chemotherapeutic agent. To better understand the mechanisms responsible for the chemopreventive efficacy of EGCG, the authors tried to identify the key molecules that contributes to Akt activation and can inhibit this activation. In the present study, EGCG increased Akt phosphorylation, an activeform of Akt and negatively affect on direct upstream molecules of Akt including PTEN and EGFR, though Akt phosphorylation was increased.

        ( - ) -epigall ocatechin - 3 -ga ll ate(EGCG) 는 녹차에서 추출되는 주된 성분으로 항산화. 세포 증식 억제 및 세 포 자멸사를 유도힌다 고 알려져 있다‘ 현 재 끼지의 여러 연구에 의하띤 EGCG는 세 포 성장을 억제하고 나아가서는 apoptoS1S까지도 유발한다. 한편 일부 연구는 EGCG가 오히려 apo ptosi s를 억 제 하고, 세 포 증식을 촉진한다고 보고하고 있다. 저자들은 EGCG가 이러한 상반된 효과틀을 보이게 되 는 기전과 그에 관련된 물질들을 파악하고지 하였다, EGCG를 세포에 처리시 초기에는 세포 생존에 관여힌다고 알려진 인 산화된 Akt 단백이 증가함이 관찰되었다 그 외에도 인산화된 Erk 단백 등의 증가로 EGCG가 세포 생존을 지속시키 는 역할을 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다‘ 이러한 현상은 COS7 과 A549 세 포 에서 관찰되었으며 Hela 세포에서는 관찰되지 않아 세 포외부에서 EGCG가 결합하게 되 는 물질 혹은 세 포내 물질 등의 차이에 의해 세 포 미다 EGCG에 대한 반응이 다른 것으로 추측된다 24시간 이상 처리된 경우 ECCG가 세 포 생존에 관린된 인자들을 감소시키는 것으로 보아 EGCG에 처음에는 세 포 생존을 유도하지만 장시간 처리 시 세 포 증식 및 생존을 억제하는 물질 임 을 확인하였다.
