        This study performed and re-analysed the articles of exposure assessment for the indoor environment of houses in many environment-related journals published. in Korea since 1990. Based on this comparative study, we estimated the unit health risk on indoor environment. The objective of this study was to offer scientific data for decision-making policy for improvement and management of indoor air quality on Korean house in. The pooled concentrations for the critical air pollutants in the house were 13.93±13.91㎍/m3 (PM10), 680±226 ppm for (CO2), 1.9±1.6 ppm (CO), 419±158 CFU/m3 (bacteria), 0.036 ± 0.002 ppm (NO2), and 104.935 ± 16.424 Bq/m3 (Rn), The pooled concentrations for the volatile organic compounds were 6.9±6.7㎍ /m3 (benzene), 39.3±55.1㎍/m3 (toluene), 4.2±4.0㎍/m3 (ethylbenzene), 11.4±8.3㎍/m3 (m, p-xylene), 4.2 ±1.5㎍/m3 (styrene) and 6.3±4.5㎍/m3 (o-xylene).         Indoor air quality tends to be the dominant contributor to personal exposure, because most people spend over 80% of their time indoors. In this study, indoor and outdoor NO2 concentrations were measured simultaneously with personal exposures of 30 university students in weekday and weekend in Daegu, Korea. House characteristics and subject's activity pattern were used to determine the effects on personal exposure. Since university students spent most of their times indoor, their NO2 exposure was associated with indoor NO2 level during both weekday and weekend in spite of different time activity. Using a time-weighted average model, NO2 exposures of university students were estimated by NO2 measurements in indoor home, indoor school, and outdoor home. In conclusion, major personal exposure to NO2 resulted from air quality of indoor environment at house.

        Currently, Ministry of Environment has promulgated and executed 'the legislation of indoor air quality for public facilities' but the data of indoor air pollutant for public facilities of this law was very insufficient. Therefore, collection of data for indoor air pollutants and execution for risk assessment in order to offer scientific data for decision-making of policy to present reasonable standards and preventive techniques of engineering were required. Therefore, this study collected and re-analysed the articles of exposure assessment for indoor environment in journals related environment in Korea since 1990 and estimated the safety factor on residents in public facilities. The objective of this study was to offer scientific data for decision-making of policy for improvement and management of indoor air quality in Korea. As the results of this study, the risk assessment for the critical pollutants in CTE (central tendency exposure) showed that safety factors according to pollutants were less than 1 which means safe level in micro-environments. It was investigated that the safety factors of CO in hospital, NO2 in terminal, PM10 and NO2 in subway station respectively were over than 1 in RME (reasonable maximum exposure). Through the results, it was investigated that health risk by inhalation of criteria and guideline air pollutants in domestic public facilities was not high. It should be considered effect of inhalation by other hazardous air pollutants because this study was examined just partial pollutants. Presentation of scientific data for expansion of study is requisite and active research of health risk assessment about indoor air quality.

        미생물 위해성 평가의 용량-반응 모델은 생물학적 모델과 경험적 모델로 나눌 수 있다. 생물학적 모델은 미생물의 분포형태, 미생물에 대한 숙주의 감수성, 감염을 일으킬 수 있는 미생물 수에 대한 가정을 바탕으로 성립된 모델로서, 대표적으로 Exponential model과 β-Poisson model이 있다. 경험적 모델은 주로 화학물질의 독성을 나타내는데 이용되어 온 모델로, Weibull-Gamma model 등이 있다. 여러 용량-반응 모델 중에서 실험 데이터에 적합한 모델을 선정하는 데에는 deviance function(Y)을 이용하며, 현재 일부 식중독균에 대해서는 사람과 실험동물에서의 용량-반응 모델이 연구되어 있다.

        Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)의 인체에 대한 위해성 정도를 판단하기 위해 PAHs의 대표독성물질인 benzo(a)pyrene의 독성을 기준으로 하는 TEFs를 적용하여, PAHs의 주요노출식품에 의한 위해성 평가를 수행하였다. 숯불구이쇠고기, 숯불구이돼지공기, 숯불구이닭고기, 햄, 베이컨, 및 식용유지 등을 대상으로 PAHs 오염도를 모니터링한 결과 숯불구이닭고기에서 총 PAHs농도가 9.3 ppb로 가장 높게 검출되었으며 각각의 congener들 모두 다른 식품에서 보다 높게 나타났다. 반면에 숯불구이쇠고기, 베이컨, 숯불구이돼지고기, 햄 및 식용유지의 총 PAHs는 각각 0.2 ppb, 0.3 ppb, 0.7 ppb, 0.8 ppb 및 1.2 ppb로 비교적 낮은 값을 나타냈다. TEFs값을 적용하여 환산된 오염도 값의 경우에서도 숯불구이닭고기가 가장 높은 값을 보였고, congener들의 농도를 비교했을 때 숯불구이닭고기, 숯불구이돼지고기, 베이컨, 숯불구이쇠고기 및 햄에서 모두 BaP의 농도가 각각 1.88 ㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg, 0.19 ㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg, 0.08 ㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg, 0.04 ㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg 및 0.02 ㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg로 congener들 중 가장 높게 나타났고 식용유지에서는 dibenzo(a, h)anthracene의 농도가 0.21㎍-TEQ_BaP/kg으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈다. 우리나라 사람들의 PAHs 주요노출식품 섭취로 인한 만성1일인체노출량은 4.32×10^-4 ㎍/kg/day으로 산출되었으며 선정된 식품 중에서 숯불구이닭고기의 노출기여도가 가장 높았다. PAHs의 초과발암위해도는 만성1일인체노출량과 BaP의 발암력인 7.3 (mg/kg/day)^-1을 고려하였을 때 3.44×10^-6, 백만명동 3~4명 수준이어다. 우리나라 대표식단을 통한 PAHs 노출량을 반영할 수 있는 위해성 평가각 추후 계속되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

        국내 6개 주요도시에서 조사된 어패류 오염도 현황을 토대로 우리나라 사람들의 어패류 섭취를 통한 유기주석화합물 인체노출량을 예측하고, 이에 따른 위해도를 추계하였다. 본 연구결과를 살펴보면 갈치의 경우, 성인이 식품수급표에서 제시하는 일일섭취량 3.02g/day를 평생 섭취한다는 노출시나리오하에 평균일일노출량은 확률분포로 나타냈을 때 그 중간값이 6.48$\times$ $10^{-7}$ mg/kg/day, 상한치 95th percentile값이 8.78$\times$$10^{-7}$ mg/kg/day로 나타났음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 비발암독성영향을 평가하기 위하여 BMD$_{10}$ 을 활용한 참고치(Reference dose)를 예측하였다. 이 때 BMD$_{10}$은 10% 비교변화를 BMR으로 하였을때 해당하는 용량의 95% 하한치이다. 본 연구에서 활용한 BMD는 digestion에 의한 근육내의 IgE titer, T.spiraris larvae와 조직학에 의한 근육내 T.spiraris larvae에 근거하여 예측된 것으로 0.03 mg/kg/day이다. 참고치는 BMD$_{10}$ 0.03 mg/kg/day에 불확실성 계수 100을 고려한 값으로 0.003 mg/kg/day이며, 이 때 활용한 불확실성계수는 실험동물에서 인체로의 외삽과정에서 고려한 계수 10과 인구집단 내 민감그룹 고려를 위한 계수 10을 적용한 것이다. 각 어패류의 위험지수(50th percentile)를 살펴보면 고등어에서 2.04$\times$ $10^{-2}$으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 소라에서 2.70$\times$ $10^{-5}$으로 가장 낮은 값을 나타냈다.

        Risk assessment traditionally are conducted on individual chemicals; however, humans are exposed to multiple chemicals in daily life. The organophosphotus (OP) pesticides are considered in a single risk assessment because they act by a common mechanism of toxicity, and there is likely to be expose to multiple OP pesticides simultaneously or sequentially. The OP pesticides act by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and have available extensive database. AChE is widely distributed droughout the body, most importantly in the nervous system. Inhibition of AChE results in accumulation of acetylcholine in the nervous system that results in clinical signs of cholinergic toxicity, including increased salivation and lacrimation, nausea and vomiting, muscle fasciculation, lethargy and fatigue, among others. To conduct an exposure assessment for pesticides in the diet, we need to know the food consumption patterns of the population, and the pesticide residue levels in the foods that are consumed. This study was conducted to identify cumulative dietary risk due to multiple OP pesticides that can be exposed through various foods. Total 22 food samples including cereals, vegetables and fruits were collected randomly two times from food markets in several sites (4 cities). The subjected foods were selected by regarding of highly consumed foods to general Korean people. The 12 OP pesticides including Acephate, Azinphos-methyl, Chlorpyrifos, and Diazinon were monitored. For the exposure assessment, general adult group of 60 kg body weight was regarded as target population and food consumption data suggested by Lee et al. (2000) were used as consumed value of individual food Analyses of samples for OP pesticides have been carried out according to the multiclass multiresidue analysis method and acephate and methamidophos analysis method of Korea Food Code. In general the levels of OP pesticides found in the food samples were very low or not detected. The detected highest value was 0.282 ppm as methidathion in mandarin and acephate, chlorpyrifos, methamidophos and methidathion were detected in several foods. To quantify simultaneous exposure, toxic equivalency factor of proportionately corresponding potency giving decreased AChE activity on the basis of reference dose 0.3 ㎍/kg/day to the chlorpyrifos was applied. The estimated dietary daily intake of OP pesticide was 4.52 × 10^(-2) ㎍/kg/day as mean value. The hazard index (HI) is the sum for OP pesticides being considered together was 0.15. The HI less than 1 indicates the exposure may be lower than an acceptable level.

        This study was designed to predict the risk of a hazard chemical, vinyl chloride, by applying dose-response assessment that are one of the major process in practicing risk assessment. After extrapolating from the high dose exposure of vinyl chloride based upon animal carcinogenic data to the low dose exposed to human using several mathematical models, we calculated the cancer potency factors as well as virtually safe dose and the resulted values were compared. This process will provide the new insight to assess the risk of a chemical accurately imposed to human in the future.

        Recently, it is continuously rising to concern about the health risk being induced by microorganisms in food such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes. Various organizations and regulatory agencies including U.S.EPA, U.S.DA and FAO/WHO are preparing the methodology building to apply microbial quantitative risk assessment to risk-based food safety program. Microbial risks are primarily the result of single exposure and its health impacts are immediate and serious. Therefore, the methodology of risk assessment differs from that of chemical risk assessment. Microbial quantitative risk assessment consists of four steps; hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment and risk characterization. Hazard identification is accomplished by observing and defining the types of adverse health effects in humans associated with exposure to foodborne agents. Epidemiological evidence which links the various disease with the particular exposure route is an important component of this identification. Exposure assessment includes the quantification of microbial exposure regarding the dynamics of microbial growth in food processing, transport, packaging and specific time-temperature conditions at various points from animal production to consumption. Dose-response assessment is the process characterizing dose-response correlation between microbial exposure and disease incidence. Unlike chemical carcinogens, the dose-response assessment for microbial pathogens has not focused on animal models for extrapolation to humans. Risk characterization links the exposure assessment and dose-response assessment and involve uncertainty analysis. The methodology of microbial dose-response assessment is classified as nonthreshold and threshold approach. The nonthreshold model have assumption that one organism is capable of producing an infection if it arrives at an appropriate site and organism have independence. Recently, the Exponential, Beta-poission, Gompertz, and Gamma-weibull models are using as nonthreshold model. The Log-normal and Log-logistic models are using as threshold model. The threshold has the assumption that a toxicant is produce by interaction of organisms. In this study, it was reviewed detailed process including risk value using model parameter and microbial exposure dose. Also this study suggested model application methodology in field of exposure assessment using assumed food microbial data(NaCl, water activity, temperature, pH, etc.) and the commercially used Food MicroModel^ⓡ. We recognized that human volunteer data to the healthy man are preferred rather than epidemiological data for obtaining exact dose-response data. But, the foreign agencies are studying the characterization of correlation between human and animal. For the comparison of differences to the population sensitivity; it must be executed domestic study such as the establishment of dose-response data to the Korean volunteer by each microbial and microbial exposure assessment in food.

        Daily exposure of aflatoxin B₁ (AFB₁) was estimated in foods (rice, barley, soybean, peanut, soysauce, soybean paste) by ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) using polyclonal antibody R_(101). Before ELISA, a simple extraction method was applied for the quantitation of AFB₁ in foods using chloroform which showed high recovery (70± 12%). AFB₁ levels in foods were 0.32 ng/ml (rice), 0.24 ng/ml (barley), 0.22 ng/ml (peanut), 0.30-0.78 ng/ml (soysauce), and 0.2 ng/ml (soybean paste). Based on food consumption, we estimated that Koreans were exposed to AFB₁ at the level of 1.86±0.46 ng/kg/day and liver cancer incidence attributed to AFB₁ exposure (assuming that AFB₁ as a single hepatocarcinogenic agent) might be calculated to be 13.1 per 100,000 population. Our data demonstrate that AFB₁ levels in foods were below the regulation of 10 ppb in foods and might not be the major risk factor for the high incidence of liver cancer in Korea.

        This study investigates the concentration distribution of aldehydes and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the archive of the National Library in Korea and evaluates the health risks to workers from hazardous chemicals. Acetaldehyde had the highest concentration among the nine species of aldehydes present in the archive and the concentration of toluene was the highest among the six species of VOCs. Most of the detected substances showed that their indoor concentrations were higher than the outdoor ones, suggesting the possibility of indoor sources of aldehydes and VOCs. The evaluation of health risks for workers based on these measurement results showed that not all substances were hazardous to the human body. However, considering the possibility of the presence of indoor sources and the potential limits of our study owing its short period, it is necessary to conduct long-term studies on the concentration distribution of indoor pollutants in the archive environment.

        2016년 환경부가 한반도 미유입 환경위해우려종으로 고시한 41분류군을 대상으로, 분류학적 특징을 이용하여 종을 동정하 는 방법을 제공하고 또한 자생지의 분포 및 환경 특성에 대한 정보를 제공하기 위하여 본 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 국외의 여러 표본관에 소장된 건조표본을 확인하였으며, 미국 서부 지역인 캘리포니아주, 오레곤주 및 워싱턴주의 현장조사를 수행하였다. 우선, 조사 결과의 일부로 미국 서부 농업지역을 중심으로 분포하는 Carduus acanthoides L. (국화과), Carduus tenuiflorus W. Curtis (국화과), Onopordum acanthium L. (국화과), Chromolaena odorata (L.) R.M. King & H. Rob. (국화과), Hydrocotyle ranunculoides L.f. (산형과), Oenanthe pimpinelloides L. (산형과), Ehrharta erecta Lam. (벼과), Paspalum conjugatum P.J. Bergius (벼과)의 8종에 대하여 위해성 검토, 잡초위험평가, 분류학적 특징 및 국내외 유사종과의 비교 검색표를 제시하였다.

        The primary purpose of this study was to determine the risk of various disease outcomes due to exposure to cyanobacteria toxin (microcystin-LR) through drinking water in a Korean watershed. In order to determine the risk in a more quantitative way, the risk assessment framework developed by the National Research Council (NRC) of the United States (US) - hazard identification, dose-response relationship, exposure assessment, and risk characterization - was used in this study. For dose-response relationships, a computer software (BenchMark Dose Software (BMDS)) developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was used to fit the data from previous studies showing the relationship between the concentration of microcystin-LR and various disease outcomes into various dose-response models. For exposure assessment, the concentrations of microcystin-LR in the source water and finished water in a Korean watershed obtained from a recent study conducted by the Ministry of Environment of Korea were used. Finally, the risk of various disease outcomes due to exposure to cyanobacteria toxin (microcystin-LR) through drinking water was characterized by Monte-Carlo simulation using Crystall Ball program (Oracle Inc.) for adults and children. The results of this study suggest that the risk of disease due to microcystin-LR toxin through drinking water is very low and it appears that current water treatment practice should be able to protect the public from the harmful effects of cyanobacteria toxin (microcystin-LR) through drinking water.

        In this study, we evaluated the potential of 70% ethanol extract from Persicaria nepalensis (PNE) as a cosmetic ingredient by primary skin irritation, ocular irritation, and maximization tests for delayed hypersensitivity in New Zealand white rabbits and Hartley guinea pig. Skin safety study was performed to evaluate the potential toxicity of PNE using the primary irritation test. In the primary irritation test, 50% PNE was applied to the skin, and no adverse reactions such as erythema and edema were observed at the intact skin sites. Therefore, PNE was classified as a practically non-irritating material based on a primary irritation index of "0.0.". In the ocular irritation test, the 50% PNE applied did not show any adverse reactions in the different parts of rabbit eyes, including the cornea, iris, and conjunctiva. Thus, PNE was classified as a practically non-irritating material based on an acute ocular irritation index of "0.0.". Skin sensitization was tested by the Guinea Pig Maximization Test (GPMT) and Freund's Complete Adjuvant (FCA) using an intradermal injection of 10% PNE. Edema and erythema were not observed 24 and 48 h after the topical application of PNE in skin sensitization test, which exhibited a sensitization score of "0.0.". Therefore, it can be suggested that P. nepalensis could be used as potential candidates for cosmoceutical ingredients, without any major side effects.

        본 연구에서는 폐금속 광산에 특화된 인체위해성평가 방법을 제시하고, 국내 폐금속 광산지역 으로부터 도출된 다양한 노출인자 값을 적용하여 폐금속 광산지역의 주민(성인 남자, 성인 여자, 어린 이)에 대하여 인체위해성평가를 수행하였다. 또한 인체위해성평가의 결과로부터 중금속 오염에 의한 주민의 건강이 우려되는 경우, 위해성에 기반한 각 매체(토양, 지하수, 지표수)별 복원기준을 제시하고 자 하였다. 본 연구 결과, 발암위해도와 비발암위해도를 지시하는 총 초과발암위해도(TCR)와 위험지 수(HI)는 지하수섭취와 농작물섭취에 의한 경로로 노출되는 비소에 의해 각각 허용 가능한 수준인 1.00E-6과 1을 크게 초과하는 것으로 나타나서 연구대상 지역의 인체위해성이 큰 것으로 평가되었다. 위해도 저감을 위한 복원농도 산정 결과, 발암위해도 기준 계산 시 As 6.83~6.85 mg/kg, Pb 18.41~18.46 mg/kg, 비발암위해도 기준 계산 시 Cu 17.38 mg/kg, As 9.13 mg/kg의 수준으로 토양정 화가 필요한 것으로 나타났다.

        알스트로메리아의 환경위해성 평가를 하기 위한 생물학적 특성평가 방법을 제시하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 환경위해성 평가를 위해 전남대학교 격리 포장 및 격리온실에서의 원예 형질 표현형 지표비교, 격리 포장에서의 번식성과 월동성, 무성번식을 통한 차세대의 표현형적 후대 안정성 등 4항목의 생물학적 특성 조사를 하였으며, 또한 알스트로메리아의 실질적 동등성 평가를 하는 데 필요한 적정 실험 개체 수를 제시하고자 하였다. 격리 포장 및 격리 온실에서 원예형질 표현형 지표 비교 조사 결과 줄기 굵기, 잎의 길이와 너비, 꽃차례 분지 길이 및 꽃의 꽃자루 길이 등 5항목에서 포장보다 온실에서 크거나 굵은 차이를 보였다. 자연환경에서 번식성 조사방법은 알스트로메리아 rhizome의 개수를 조사한 결과 7.0에서 10.2개로 계통에 따라 차이가 나타났으며, 월동성은 토양 표면에서의 깊이를 10cm, 20cm, 30cm로 다르게 하여 월동 후 생존력을 조사한 결과 계통에 따라 10∼75%로 조사되었다. 무성번식을 통한 차세대의 표현형적 후대 안정성 조사에서는 양적 형질 6가지를 조사하였으며, 씨방에서 안토시아닌의 유무를 조사한 결과 ‘씨엔알스호프’(품종등록번호 5192)는 안토시아닌이 있고, ‘파이네세’는 안토시아닌이 없었던 차이를 제외하고 다른 항목에서는 차이를 발견할 수 없었다. 실질적 동등성 평가를 하는데 필요한 적정 실험 개체 수는 전남대학교 온실에서 표준재배법에 따라 재배된 알스트로메리아 96주를 대상으로 하였으며 양적 형질 9항목의 특성을 실측하여, 각 조사항목의 실측치를 로그함수에 의한 비선형회귀모형을 사용하여 분석하여 기울기 값이 0.03이 되는 점을 정하였으며, 조사결과 실질적 동등성 평가를 하기 위한 개체 수는 항목에 따라 13주 이상에서 60주 이상으로 조사되었다.
