        This study selected the optimal conditions for enzyme treatment that can promote the extraction of functional components from Salvia plebeia (SP) and confirmed solubilization characteristics, functional component contents, and applicability evaluation in pilot-scale, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory activity. The optimal conditions of pectinase, 1%, and 2 h (P) were determined through the enzyme treatment of SP. The water-soluble index and total polyphenol content were the highest in P compared to 100oC reflux condition for 2 h (CON). Component analysis performed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed that flavonoid contents were increased 6.6-9.5 times in the P compared to CON. There was no difference in component content when comparing the measurement lab-scale and pilot scale. CON and P indicated cytoprotective effect against H2O2-induced RAW 264.7 cells. CON and P pre-treatment also reduced the production of nitric oxide and proinflammatory cytokines in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, P showed higher antioxidant and anti-inflammation activities than CON. These results suggested that P has a higher concentration of bioactive compounds through enzyme treatment than that obtained from CON. Thus, it can be used as a primary material for industrial utilization, such as developing functional food materials using SP.

        This study investigated on the nutritional components and physiological activity of four wild vegetables namely Salvia plebeia R. Br., Angelica acutiloba, Gynura procumbens and Saururus chinensis Baill for the development of representative wild vegetables in Chungbuk. Salvia plebeia possessed the highest radical scavenging activity and beta-carotene, but exhibited the lowest α-glucosidase inhibitory activity compared to the other three vegetables. Angelica acutiloba showed high crude protein content and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, but contained low total polyphenol content, radical scavenging ability and beta-carotene compared to the other three vegetables. Gynura procumbens showed high mineral content, beta-carotene, vitamin K1 content and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, but showed the lowest total polyphenol content and radical scavenging ability compared to the other three vegetables. Saururus chinensis showed high crude fiber content and total polyphenol content, but contained the lowest mineral and vitamin K1 content. To conclude, it is suggested to use Salvia plebeia or Saururus chinensis as antioxidant food materials and Angelica acutiloba and Gynura procumbens as food materials and sources of α-glucosidase inhibitors. In particular, it is believed that Saururus chinensis, which possessed high content of crude fiber, is suitable for low-calorie food materials such as diet products.

        This study provides data to explore functional medicinal food materials that can prevent adult diseases, and verified antioxidant and anti-inflammatory of each solvent fraction of the methanol extract of Salvia plebeia R. Br. in Korea. In the analysis of total phenol content, DPPH radical scavenging ability, and FRAP reduction ability as indicators of antioxidant activity, the methanol fraction and ethyl acetate fraction of the Salvia plebeia R. Br. group showed high antioxidant activity. Ethyl acetate fraction of Salvia plebeia R. Br. methanol extract also showed excellent antioxidative activity as compared with BHT. In the mouse macrophage line Raw 264.7 cells, the NO production ability by LPS treatment was significantly increased in the LPS treatment group compared to the untreated group. In inflammatory reactions induced by LPS treatment in Raw 264.7 cells, inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, PGE2, IL-1β) and NO production were decreased in the EtOAc fraction and MeOH fraction of the methanol extract of Salvia plebeia R. Br. compared to the case of LPS treatment alone. The anti-inflammatory effect was proved by significantly inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. The present results suggest that Salvia plebeia R. Br. supplementation is beneficial for the suppression of antioxidant and anti-inflammation.

        본 연구에서는 고지방·고콜레스테롤 식이 흰쥐에서 곰보배추 파우더가 간조직의 항산화 효소활성 및 산화적 손상에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 실험군을 4군으로 나누어 정상 식이군, 고지방·고콜레스테롤 식이군, 고지방·고콜레스테롤 식이에 곰보배추 파우더를 5% 및 10% 첨가한 군으로 각각 나누었다. 간 조직 중의 항산화 효소계인 GSH-px, catalase 및 SOD 활성은 정상군에 비해 HF군에서는 감소되는 경향을 나타내었으나 HF군에 비해 곰보배추 파우더 공급군에서 유의적으로 증가되었다. Superoxide radical 함량을 mitochondria 및 microsome에서 측정한 결과 정상군에 비해 HF군에서 유의적인 증가를 나타내었으나 곰보배추 공급으로 유의하게 감소되었다. 특히 microsome에서는 군간의 유의한 차이도 나타내었다. 간조직의 cytosol 및 mitochondria에서 H2O2의 함량에서는 곰보배추 공급군 모두에서 유의적인 감소로 정상군 수준을 나타내었다. 혈청에서 간수치 GOT 및 GPT를 측정한 결과 10%의 곰보배추의 공급으로 HF군에 비해 유의적으로 감소되었다. 간조직의 microsome 및 mitochondria에서의 산화단백질 함량 또한 곰보배추 파우더의 공급으로 유의적으로 감소하였다. 과산화지질의 함량을 간조직에서 관찰 한 결과 고지방·고콜레스테롤 식이로 인해 증가된 과산화지질이 곰보배추 파우더를 공급한 군에서 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. 곰보배추의 공급으로 고지방·고콜레스테롤 식이로 손상된 간조직의 항산화계는 곰보배추 내 함유되어진 여러 생리활성 물질들이 항산화효소의 활성을 증가시켜 체내에서 생성된 free radical에 의한 산화를 억제시켰으리라 사료되어진다. 이로 미루어 곰보배추는 체내 조직의 산화를 억제하는 항산화작용에 효과적으로 기여함을 알 수 있었다.

        Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) is perennial plant and commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat numerous diseases like cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke and some viral diseases. Nevertheless, no study has been conducted on the antiviral properties of crude extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza against Influenza virus. In an attempt to identify new potential anti-influenza virus agents, 200 natural oriental herbal medicines were screened and we found that Salvia miltiorrhiza has a potential anti-influenza effect. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the protective effect of aqueous extract from Salvia miltiorrhiza against divergent influenza A subtypes using murine model of influenza A infection. Effective dose of aqueous extracts of Salvia miltiorrhiza in BALB/c mice displayed higher survival rate and lower lung viral titers when challenged with lethal doses of influenza A subtypes ({A/Aquatic bird/Korea/ W81/2005(H5N2)}, {A/PR/8/34(H1N1)}, {A/Aquatic bird/Korea/W44/2005(H7N3)} and {A/Chicken/ Korea/116/2004(H9N2)}). In vivo results exhibited that Salvia miltiorrhiza induced prophylactic effect in BALB/c mice against Influenza virus by disrupting viral replication or preventing viral infection by creating an antiviral state in the lungs. Taken together, the use of aqueous extracts of Salvia miltiorrhiza as an orally active antiviral agent, will be potential candidates for prophylactic treatments against Influenza A virus for humans and animals.

        본 논문은 재배가 용이하고 민간요법에서 다양하게 이용되고 있는 곰보배추의 에탄올 추출물이 화장품 소재로서 가능성이 있는지를 알아보기 위해 항산화, 미백효능에 대하여 관찰하였다. B16F10 세포에서 곰보배추 에탄올 추출물 25, 50, 100 ㎍/mL 농도에서 독성이 나타나지 않았다. DPPH radical 소거능을 관찰한 결과 모든 농도에서 소거능을 보여주었고, 50 ㎍/mL의 농도에서 65.2%, 100 ㎍/mL에서 77.6%의 강한 항산화 효능을 나타냈다. Raw 264.7 세포 내에서 ROS 생성 저해능을 관찰한 결과 농도 의존적으로 유의하게 나타냈고, 100 ㎍/mL 농도에서는 39.1% 억제하는 것으로 나타났다. NO생성 억제를 관찰하기 위해 Raw 264.7 세포에 곰보배추 에탄올 추출물을 25, 50, 100 ㎍/mL 농도 별로 첨가하여 관찰한 결과 농도 의존적으로 NO생성을 억제하였다. 시험관 내에서 L-DOPA와 L-tyrosine을 이용하여 곰보배추 에탄올 추출물이 tyrosinase activity를 농도 의존적으로 억제하는 것을 나타냈다. 세포 내에서 MSH를 가한 B16F10 세포에 곰보배추 에탄올 추출물을 25, 50, 100 ㎍/mL의 melanin 함량을 관찰한 결과 농도 의존적으로 억제하는 것을 보여주며 100 ㎍/mL에서 30.7%로 억제하였다. 따라서 곰보배추 에탄올 추출물이 항산화 기능이 있는 미백 기능성 화장품의 소재로서 개발 가능성이 충분히 있는 것으로 사료된다.

        본 연구에서는 인공광 광질에 따른 곰보배추의 생육, 엽형 및 항산화능을 비교하였다. 정식 후 56일째에 측정 된 엽장, 엽폭 및 엽수는 적색 LED(R)와 대조구인 형광등(FL) 처리구에서 유의적으로 높았고 혼합광(RB2:1)과 백색 LED(W) 처리구에서 낮았다. 엽형지수(엽장/엽폭)도 적색 LED(R)와 대조구인 형광등(FL) 처리구에서 유의적으로 높았고 혼합광(RB2:1)과 백색 LED(W) 처리구에서 낮았다. 지상부 생체중, 건물중 및 엽면적 모두 적색 LED(R) 처리구에서 가장 높았고 형광등(FL)과 청색 LED(B) 처리구가 그 다음으로 높게 나타났으며 혼합광 (RB2:1)과 백색 LED(W) 처리구에서 낮았다. 잎의 수하 현상은 정식 21일 이후부터 적색 LED(R)와 혼합광 (RB2:1) 처리구에서만 발생하였다. 엽록소 함량은 적색 LED(R) 처리구에서 가장 낮았다. 비엽중은 청색 LED(B) 처리구에서 가장 높았고 형광등(FL) 처리구에서 가장 낮았다. DPPH free radical 소거활성은 처리 간 유의차가 없었다. 위의 결과들을 종합하여 볼 때 형광등이 곰보배추를 실내에서 인공으로 재배 시 적합한 광원으로 판단된다.

        Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) seed, originated from Central America, is a nutritious food especially rich in dietary fiber and protein. In this study, we investigated the quality and sensory characteristics of Yanggang with chia seed powder (CSP). Red bean paste was replaced with CSP at 0% (Control), 1% (CSP1), 2% (CSP2), 3% (CSP3) and 4% (CSP4). The pH values of chia seed Yanggang tended to decrease from Control (6.84) to CSP4 (6.67); whereas, the moisture contents of Yanggang samples tended to increase. The soluble solid contents of CSP4 were the highest (3.33 ˚Bx), as compared to the Control which showed the lowest values (2.77 ˚Bx). In the CSP-added groups, the L-value (lightness), a-value (redness) and b-value (yellowness) were increased, while the ΔE (total color difference) was decreased, as compared to the control group. Hardness and springiness were both increased from control (49.77 g/cm2 and 464.80%, respectively) to CSP4 (72.21 g/cm2 and 532.43%, respectively). However, cohesiveness decreased from control (47.41%) to CSP4 (37.34%). Chewiness and adhesiveness showed no significant group-wise difference (p<0.05). Total polyphenol content ranged from 7.23 to 10.73 mg GAE/100 g, with a lower ABTS IC50 of the CSP-added groups than that of the control group. Samples from the CSP-added as well as Control groups showed no significant differences among all items on the sensory evaluation test, except flavor. The results indicated that CSP had significant effects on the soluble solid contents and texture of Yanggang. Thus, the addition of 2% of CSP is desirable for making Yanggang.

        This study was carried out to investigated optimum mixing ratio of Korean cultivation Salvia miltiorrhiza forproduction of functional oyster mushroom. Mycerial growth was slow at addition of Salvia miltiorrhiza, and significant differenceby increase of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Yields of fruiting body show the highest to 139.5g/850ml of medium which are addition 5g/bottle of Salvia miltiorrhiza but rapid decrease by increase of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Diameter of pileus and thick of stipes were higherat addition Salvia miltiorrhiza than those of the controls. Thick of pileus and length of stipes were the highest at addition 30g, and20g and 30g of Salvia miltiorrhiza. The L value of stipes were the highest at addition 20g and 50g of Salvia miltiorrhiza and theL value of pileus were the highest at addition 30g of Salvia miltiorrhiza, but there was no significant difference in the a-value andthe b-value.

        We previously prepared a standardized and purified extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza, PF2401-SF, and showed that it protected against hepatic injury more effectively than ethanol based extraction. In this study, we determined the hepatoprotective mechanisms of PF2401-SF in vivo. Hepatic injury was induced in mice by using carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Treatment with PF2401-SF (1 or 10 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly reduced the levels of alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) in the plasma. PF2401-SF treatment resulted in further elevation of the CCl4-induced heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression, which contributed to the PF2401-SF-mediated liver protection. Additionally, PF2401-SF treatment significantly reduced the c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation induced by CCl4. Taken together, these results suggest that the protective effect of PF2401-SF, a standardized fraction of S. miltiorrhiza, against CCl4-induced hepatic injury in mice arises from its induction effect on HO-1 and inhibitory effect on JNK phosphorylation.
