        The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) initiated by the Thailand Astronomical Society in 2007 is an annual competition for high school students. One of its aim is to enhance the development of international exchange in the field of school education in astronomy and astrophysics. This paper first provides the overview of the IOAA in terms of key regulations based on its statutes, history and current status. Secondly, the published syllabus of the IOAA is used for content analysis according to subject areas regarding the exam questions of the IOAA in theoretical, observational and data analysis parts from 2007 to 2010. Also, a scientific inquiry framework is applied to the same questions for assessment based on scientific inquiry in the cognitive aspect with two sub-classes of scientific knowledge and scientific reasoning. Among a dozen astronomy subject areas listed on the syllabus, the theoretical part of the IOAA makes more frequent use of the Sun, the solar system, properties of stars, and concept of time. In content knowledge, a factor of scientific knowledge, the IOAA questions, especially in the theoretical part have a lesser degree in difficulty than the IAO (International Astronomy Olympiad) exam questions for the same period whose degree in difficulty is comparable to college level. With regard to scientific reasoning, the IOAA questions tend to involve convergent rather than divergent thinking. Lastly, in light of these findings, discussions are given on the outcome of Korean participation in the previous IOAAs and ways to help better in preparing Korean students for future astronomy Olympiads.

        망개떡의 주원료인 청미래덩굴 잎은 소금물에 저장한 후, 이용 시 세척하여 사용한다. 이에 염장 시 저장 과정에서의 잎의 특성변화를 확인하였다. 천일염과 정제염으로 염장 후 저장한 잎의 수분함량 변화 에서는 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 소금의 농도가 높을수록 수분함량은 크게 감소하였다. 실온에서는 정제염에 저장한 잎의 전단력이 높았으나, 저온(4℃)에서는 천일염에서 저장한 잎의 전단력이 높았고, 소금의 농도는 높을수록 저장기간은 짧을수록 전단력이 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 실온보다 저온에서 저장과 소금의 농도가 10% 이하에서 저장한 잎의 색도 변화가 적은 것으로 나타났다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of sugar-snap cookies containing various types and mixture ratios of sugar. The characteristics of sugar-snap cookies prepared with fructose, high-fructose corn syrup and invert sugar were examined through physical properties measurement and sensory evaluation. Results of the investigation suggest significant differences in the cookies made with various sugars. High-fructose corn syrup was better than others for making sugar-snap cookies. The quality of cookies baked with high-fructose corn syrup was improved compared to cookies baked with invert sugar or fructose. Varying the formula, with high-fructose corn syrup had little or no effect on the quality of the final product. Using different quantities of invert sugar and high-fructose corn syrup significantly affected the physical properties of the cookies. Sugar-snap cookies containing invert sugar had an extremely positive effect.

        A diagnostic tool has been proposed to convert the observed surface distribution of hydrogen recombination line intensities into the radial distributions of the electron temperature and the density in HII regions. The observed line intensity is given by an integral of the volume emission coefficient along the line of sight, which comprises the Abel type integral equation for the volume emission coefficient. As the emission coefficient at a position is determined by the temperature and density of electrons at the position, the local emission coefficient resulted from the solution of the Abel equation gives the radial distribution of the temperature and the density. A test has been done on the feasibility of our diagnostic approach to probing of HII regions. From model calculations of an HII region of pure hydrogen, we have theoretically generated the observed surface brightness of hydrogen recombination line intensities and analyzed them by our diagnostic tool. The resulting temperatures and densities are then compared with the model values. For this case of uniform density, errors in the derived density are not large at all the positions. For the electron temperature, however, the largest errors appear at the central part of the HII region. The errors in the derived temperature decrease with the radial distance, and become negligible in the outer part of the model HII region.

        The Sungnyemun roofing tiles were twice disassembled for maintenance work, in 1963 and 1997, and modern tiles were applied in 1997. However, besides differing in visual appearance, the modern tiles had distinctly different physical properties. A study has been carried out on 22 different tiles, including original Sungnyemun tiles, modern tiles applied during maintenance, traditional tiles made by tile-makers, and others, to examine their physical properties, such as bending strength, frost resistance, absorption, whole-rock magnetic susceptibility, chromaticity, differential thermal analysis, and other characteristics. Since the method of making modern tiles involves compressing clay in a vacuum, modern tiles showed relatively greater bending strength and specific gravity, while Sungnyemun tiles and those made by tile-makers, in comparison, demonstrated less bending strength and specific gravity owing to their production method of 'treading,' in which clay is mixed by having someone tread upon it repeatedly. Over time, the absorption rate of the original tile used for Sungyemun gradually decreased from 21% to 14.7%; traditional tiles from tile-makers showed absorption rates of 17%, while the absorption rate of modern tiles was just 1%, which is significantly low. As for frost resistance, Sungnyemun tiles and traditional tiles from tile-makers showed cracking and exfoliation after being subjected to testing 4 or 5 times, while slight cracking was seen on the surface for modern tiles after 1ngy, or 3 times. In other words, no significant difference from influence by frost was found. According to the results of differential thermal analysis, the plastic temperature was shown to have been no less than 1, on℃ for all types of tile, and cristobalite was measuredthrough XRD analysis from a Sungnyemun female tile applied during maintenance in 1963, which appeared to have been plasticized at between 1,200℃~1,300℃. Based on these research results on the physical properties of tiles from the Sungnyemun roof, a fundamental production method for tiles to be applied in the restoration of Sungnyemun has been identified.

        This paper describes the fabrication of AlN thin films containing iron and iron nitride particles, and the magnetic and electrical properties of such films. Fe-N-Al alloy films were deposited in Ar and N2 mixtures at ambient temperature using Fe/Al composite targets in a two-facing-target DC sputtering system. X-ray diffraction results showed that the Fe-N-Al films were amorphous, and after annealing for 5 h both AlN and bcc-Fe/bct-FeNx phases appeared. Structure changes in the FeNx phases were explained in terms of occupied nitrogen atoms. Electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that iron and iron nitride particles were randomly dispersed in annealed AlN films. The grain size of magnetic particles ranged from 5 to 20 nm in diameter depending on annealing conditions. The saturation magnetization as a function of the annealing time for the Fe55N20Al25 films when annealed at 573, 773 and 873 K. At these temperatures, the amount of iron/iron nitride particles increased with increasing annealing time. An increase in the saturation magnetization is explained qualitatively in terms of the amount of such magnetic particles in the film. The resistivity increased monotonously with decreasing Fe content, being consistent with randomly dispersed iron/iron nitride particles in the AlN film. The coercive force was evaluated to be larger than 6.4×103Am-1 (80 Oe). This large value is ascribed to a residual stress restrained in the ferromagnetic particles, which is considered to be related to the present preparation process.

        블럭으로 주어지는 물리탐사 자료의 역산결과를 시추공 자료와 복합적으로 시뮬레이션하여 암반등급의 분류에 적용하였다. 물리탐사의 역산결과는 해석 대상에 대한 부가적 수준의 정보를 포함하게 되며, 전체 영역에 대한 정보를 제공한다. 반면, 시추공 자료는 해석 대상에 대한 직접적인 정보를 제공하지만, 그 정보의 공간적 범위가 매우 좁아 포인트 자료로써 이용된다. 블럭으로 주어지는 물리탐사 역산결과와 포인트로 주어지는 시추공 자료를 결합하여 크리깅이나 지구통계학적 시뮬레이션을 수행하기 위해서는, 포인트-포인트, 포인트-블럭, 블럭-포인트 간의 공분산 정보가 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 SGeMS에서 제공하는 Bssim 모듈을 이용하여, 역산 블럭과 시추공 포인트간의 복합적 시뮬레이션을 통해 공간적 특성이 다른 자료를 반영하는 다운스케일 된 결과를 얻었고, 이를 선행연구에서 적용한 지구통계학적 역산 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과, 본 방법에 의한 다운스케일링 기법이 보다 확장가능하고 유연한 적용이 가능한 것으로 판단하였다.

        Hydrophobically monoendcapped poly(sodium acrylate)s formed hydrophobic microdomains in water. This was concluded on poly(sodium acrylate)s with a linear C12-alkyl chain attached specifically at the end of the polymer. There was no well defined CMC (critical micelle concentration), but rather a gradual transition from a micelle free solution to a micelle solution. Steady state fluorescence spectroscopy indicates that the micro domains are rather hydrophobic. At pH 5 in the abscence of salt and at pH 9 in the prescence of 1 M sodium citrate the CAC (critical aggregation concentration) was in the range of 0.1 to 2.4 mM. However at pH 5 there was a linear increase in the transition concentration with a head-group size due to an increase in steric and electrostatic repulsions between polymer main chains. At pH 9 in the abscence of salt the transition concentration was in the range of 1 to 80 mM. For the larger polymers there was a effect which consisted of a concentration gradient of sodium counterion toward the hydrophobic domain. The effect was larger for the larger polymers because of the higher total sodium concentration and the less steep counterion concentration gradient.

        Flaxseed has recently gained attention as a functional food. In this paper, physicochemical analyses of flaxseed and its oil were performed. Crude fat content ranged from 37~43%, moisture 0.2~6.8%, carbohydrate 30~35%, crude protein 18~23%, and crude ash 3~4%. Flaxseed is also an important source of dietary fiber. The TDF(total dietary fiber) contents of the flaxseed samples were 28~31%, and the SDF(souble dietary fiber) content of roasted flaxseeds was higher than that of raw flaxseeds. The major minerals found in flaxseed were calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphate. The flaxseeds were rich in γ-tocopherol with 234.3㎎/㎏ in raw brown flaxseed and 134.1㎎/㎏ in raw gold flaxseed, respectively. Roasted flaxseeds showed slightly lower vitamin and amino acid contents than those of the raw samples. The iodine, saponification, and acid values of brown flaxseed oil were 204.1g/100g, 193.6㎎/g, and 1.59㎎/g, and for gold flaxseed oil were 203.0g/100g, 189.9㎎/g, and 2.35㎎/g, respectively. α-Linolenic acid(ALA, C18: 3n-3) was highly concentrated in the flaxseed oil, which constituted about 55.5~56.1% of total fatty acids. Thus, flaxseed oil is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and beneficial for the heart. Flaxseed contains high levels of dietary fiber including lignans, as well as minerals and vitamins, which may have antioxidant actions and help protect against certain cancers.

        본 연구에서는 국내에서 식용으로 재배되고 있는 팽이버섯의 균사체에 대하여 Agrobacterium을 이용한 형질전환을 시도하였다. 특히 물리적 연마제인 미세 aluminum oxide 입자를 팽이 균사체 와 함께 강하게 교반함으로써 물리적 상해를 지니는 균사체를 제조하였으며 감압침윤에 의한 Agrobacterium 이용 형질전환을 시도하였다. Hygromycin 저항성을 이용한 선발 결과, 대조군에 서는 균사체 생육이 전혀 관찰되지 않은 반면 물리적 상해군에서는 형질전환균사체 생육이 확인되 었다. Genomic DNA PCR에 의한 유전자 도입을 확인함으로써 팽이균사체에 대한 매우 간편한 형 질전환법을 제시할 수 있었다.
