        This study was performed to investigate the eating habit, body image, and weight control behavior by BMI in Korean female high school students. Data on the 16, 574 subjects was obtained from the sixth Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2010). Only 52.2% of the subjects had regular breakfast. The rate of skipping breakfast was higher in the underweight group than in the obese group, but the rate of skipping dinner was on the contrary to this. Underweight students had a higher intake frequency of fruits, fast food, instant noodle, and snacks than the obese groups. 3.5% of underweight students considered themselves to be overweight or obese. 53.4% of obese students considered themselves to be overweight. The experience of weight control increased according to BMI, but underweight students considered weight control as an effort to be slimmer. Meal restriction was used more frequently to control weight. The perceived stress level was higher in obese student, especially due to appearance. Therefore, an appropriate, integrated and personalized high school nutrition program should be established for proper body image perception and to develop the self-esteem of female high school students.

        This research was planned and executed to evaluate how the composition of Yack-sun tea can affect the health conditions of people who are suffering from diet-related such as being overweight, are obese and have hyperlipidemia, by taking Yack-sun tea in a form of a nutritional supplement with our daily meals. We produced Kangjieum with Lycium chinense Mill., Polygonum multflorum Thunb, Cassia tora L., Crataegus pinnatifida Bge and Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. Thus, we approach of oriental diet therapy area research of Kangjieum and analysis proximate composition, water soluble antioxidant content. The content(%, dry basis) of total carbohydrate was 60.23%, crude protein was 18.18%, crude ash was 11.36% and crude fat was 10.23% in Kangjieum. Total water soluble antioxidant content was 1.027 ㎍/㎖ of Kangjieum. We think that scientific and objective evaluation was done on the components of the Kangjieum prescription. This basic data could help guide the application of oriental medicinal resources into other foods and serve as a stepping-stone for use of Kangjieum in the burgeoning field of nutraceutical foods. Last, the scientific effects of oriental medicinal foods developed according to oriental medicinal theory. This theory is believed to be essential for government policy development concerning validation of medicinal effects and assessment, with the aim of fostering systematic development and providing guidance to food development in the interest of national health.

        In previous studies, we performed joint animal studies and clinical trials between Yonsei University and Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical Co. Ltd. We have shown that coffee bean extract has potent anti-obesity and hypotriglyceridemic activities as well as beneficial effects on body fat reduction.In this study, the effects of coffee bean extract (100 mg/capsule) on body fat reduction were evaluated in overweight/obese women (body mass index of 25~30 kg/m2 or body fat 〉 30%) not diagnosed with any type of disease. Subjects were randomly assigned to a coffee bean extract group (n=10) or placebo group (n=10). We measured anthropometric parameters, abdominal fat distribution by computed tomography and blood components before and after the 8week intervention period. After supplementation, the coffee bean extract group showed body weight (p=0.08), body mass index (p=0.06), hip circumference (p〈0.05), and upper waist circumference (p〈 0.01). In addition, after 8 weeks, the coffee bean extract group showed a significant decrease in abdominal internal fat area compared to 0 weeks (0 weeks : 155.8cm2; 8 weeks : 145.9cm2, δ change : -9.9cm2, respectively). However, there were no significant differences in lipid profiles or serological measurements between the coffee bean extract group and placebo group. The results of our human study demonstrated that coffee bean extract supplementation for 8 weeks has beneficial effects on reducing abdominal internal fat area as well as hip and waist circumferences.

        본 연구는 인공호의 영양 단계에 따른 피라미 개체군 의 전장-체중 관계 및 비만도 지수 (K)의 차이를 알아보 기 위해 2008년~2010년까지 부안호, 양양호, 진양호, 금 풍지, 예당지 및 마산지 등의 6개 인공호를 대상으로 실 시하였으며, 광범위한 분포 특성과 섭식 특성을 보이는 피라미(Zacco platypus)를 본 연구의 대상 어종으로 선정 하였다. 총인 (TP)과 엽록소-a (Chl-a)를 이용한 영양상태 지수(TSI) 분석 결과 양양호와 부안호는 빈영양(30~40), 진양호와 금풍지는 중영양 (40~50), 예당지와 마산지는 부영양 (50~70)상태로 나타났다. 6개 호수에서 총 47종 26,226개체의 어류가 채집되었으며, 빈영양호 (양양호, 부 안호)에서는 민감종이 우세한 현상을 보였다. 한편, 중영양호 (진양호, 금풍지)와 부영양호 (예당지, 마산지)에서는 내성종이 우세한 것으로 분석되어 호수의 영양 상태에 따 라 우세종의 내성특성에 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 전장-체중 관계 분석 결과에 따르면, 회귀계수 b값은 중 영양호(3.07~3.17)와 부영양호(3.15~3.21)에 비해 빈영 양호 (2.77~2.79)에서 낮은 값을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 호수의 영양상태가 피라미 개체군의 성장도에 영향을 주 는 것으로 사료된다. 전장에 따른 비만도 지수 (K) 관계 분석 결과 중영양호와 부영양호에서는 양의 기울기를 보 인 반면, 빈영양호에서는 음의 기울기를 나타내 호수의 영양상태에 따라 차이를 보였다. TSI (TP), TSI (Chl-a)와 회귀계수 b값의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 b=0.012*TSI (TP)+2.395 (R2=0.797, p=0.017), b=0.013*TSI (Chl-a)+ 2.367 (R2=0.822, p=0.013)으로 나타나 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 한편, 부영양화가 진행될수록, 비정상개체의 비율 이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로, 전장-체중 관계와 비만도 지수 분석에 의 한 피라미 개체군의 성장도는 영양염류나 식물플랑크톤 의 생체량과 같은 영양상태를 반영하는 것으로 사료되 며, 과도한 부영양화는 수환경의 오염을 초래하여 피라미 개체군의 성장과 건강도에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으 로 사료된다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary habits and snack consumption behaviors of middle school students with different obesity indexes in the Chungnam area. The survey was carried out using self-questionnaires and included 385 students(119 underweight, 193 normal weight, 66 overweight). The rate of skipping meals was higher for underweight students than overweight students; however, this difference was not statistically significant. The mean time of meal was 10 to 20 minutes and the criteria for choosing to eat a meal were ‘hunger’ and ‘taste’ in all groups. More than half of the subjects ate snacks 1 time a day, which were purchased outside. The typical snack time was ‘between lunch and dinner’. The criteria of for consuming a meal were ‘taste’ and ‘price’ in all groups. In the underweight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.4), fruit(4.3), fried chicken(4.1), sports beverage(4.0), fruit juice(4.0), pizza(4.0) and, tteokbokki(3.9). In the normal weight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.3), fried chicken(4.2), pizza(4.0), sports beverage(3.9), fruit juice(3.9) and, tteokbokki(3.9) in the overweight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.3), fruit(4.3), fried chicken(4.2), yogurt(4.0), sports beverage(4.0), fruit juice(4.0) and, ramen(4.0). In conclusion, the snaking behaviors of the subjects were not significantly different based on their obesity index. However, this study may provide basic information on the snacking behaviors of middle school students, and the findings suggest that nutrition education or counseling can improve snack intake habits and positive behaviors toward healthy adolescents diets.

        This study was performed to investigate the antioxidative effect of Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort extracts (LCE) against the hyperlipidemia of high-fat diet-fed obese rats. The rats were divided into the three groups (normal group, control group and sample group) to perform the experimental research. 1.5 ml/kg of LCE was intraperitoneally administered into the sample group for 21 days. The equal dose of 0.9% saline was intraperitoneally administered into the normal group and the control group. On day 22, they were anesthetized with ether and dissected. The levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were examined in serum of rats. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) was measured in mitochondrial fraction. Malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), and glutamate peroxidase (GPx) were determined in liver homogenate. High-fat diet markedly increased the levels of AST, ALT and MDA, significantly decreasing those of SOD, CAT and GPx. But Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort-pretreatment decreased the levels of AST, ALT, and MDA. increasing those of SOD, CAT and GPx. These results demonstrated the antioxidative effects, suggesting that LCE could be the candidate for the functional material.

        This study was performed to examine the relationship between the body mass index (BMI), the body fat, and the serum lipids of post-menopausal women in rural areas. The subjects were 510 women aged 50 and over. As a result of this study, we found a trend of decreasing BMI as age increased, but body fat increased. In addition, there was a significant decreasing of the lean body mass than an increasing of the body mass index according to increasing age. Therefore, this study confirmed that a main cause of rural women being classified as obese is a decrease in lean body mass, rather than an increase in of body fat. Of all subjects, 36.3% (18.5≤BMI 〈 23) of all subjects were classified as having normal BMI, whereas only 21.4% were classified as having normal body fat. Out of 190 subjects who were body fat 30% and over, 38 subjects were classified as obese (BMI≥25) and 113 subjects were classified as overweight (23≤BMI 〈 25). The percentile of those with a BMI of 25kg/m2 was 70, and they had 30.82% body fat. HDL cholesterol showed a negative correlation with anthropometric factors (height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, waist hip ratio, body fat), and total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides showed a positive correlation. Especially, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and hip circumference showed significant correlations. Because of differences in the body fat and lean body mass by age group, it seems difficult to assess obesity via BMI only. The elderly especially should have a higher significance placed on body fat or abdominal fat than only BMI.

        The purpose of this study was to develop slacks patterns for middle-aged abdomen-obese adult males by using the 3D virtual-twin and virtual-garment simulation system. The criteria for subjects in this study were males who had over 25kg/m2 of BMI, over 90cm of waist, and over 0.90 of WHR. A total of 211 adult males who met these criteria were enrolled. The results were as follows: first, a new slacks pattern considerate of abdomen-obese men was development. The basic numerical formula were as follows: front and back hip girth H/4+3.5, front waist girth W/4+1+0.5, back waist girth W/4+1-0.5, front crotch extension H/16, back crotch extension H/8-0.5, front pleats amount 2.7, and back dart amount 1.5. Second, according to the results of the new slacks patterns appearance evaluation, the new slacks pattern scored more highly than the existing pattern in silhouette and ease amount, confirming that the new slacks pattern is appropriate for the abdomen-obese men. Also, the new slacks pattern was evaluated allowing proper space length of waist, abdomen and hip. Virtual models of production through data from a 3D body scan, pattern draft and virtual garment digital program were applied to a prototypic design method in order to enhance the fitness of ready-made garments. The use of the virtual twin made it impossible to comprehend the appearances and ease correspondent to motions. In order to evaluate wearing fitness, therefore, the system should be improved so as to change arm positions and perform various motions.

        생마늘 (FGP), 홍마늘 (RGP) 및 흑마늘 (BGP)의 동결건조 분말을 각각 3%씩 비만 유도된 흰쥐에 4 주간 혼합 급이한 후 혈청, 간 및 분변의 지질성분에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 식이효율은 마늘 분말 급이군이 대조군에 비하여 낮았으나 유의차는 없었다. 혈청 중 총 지질 함량은 대조군에 비해 7.0~20.9% 범위로 감소하였으며, 특히 중성지질 함량은 대조군에 비해 RGP군은 42.1%, BGP군은 40.8%정도로 유의적인 감소를 보였다. HDL-콜레스테롤 함량은 마늘 분말 급이시 정상군과 유사한 수 준이었으며, LDL-콜레스테롤은 마늘 분말 급이시 감소되었으나 대조군과 유의차는 없었다. 간 조직의 총 지질은 대조군이 정상군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하였으나, RGP와 BGP 급이군에서 30%이상 감소되 었다. 분변의 지질 함량은 마늘 분말의 급이 기간이 길수록 지질 함량이 높았으며, RGP군에서 총 콜레 스테롤 및 중성지방의 배출이 유의적으로 증가되었다. 혈청과 간 조직의 TBARS 함량은 대조군에 비하 여 RGP군과 BGP군에서 유의적으로 감소되었다. 항산화능은 혈청에서 RGP군이 68.1%로 대조군에 비하 여 유의적으로 상승되었다. 이상의 결과로 고지방식이로 인해 비만이 유도된 흰쥐에게 홍마늘 및 흑마늘 분말을 급이는 체지방 증가 억제, 체내 지질 배출 증가 등에 의한 체내 지질 개선에 효과적인 것으로 사 료된다.
