        This study aimed to evaluate dietary behaviors and food allergy status of preschool children in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan city. The survey included 592 preschool children aged 1-5 years old in 31 childcare facilities. General characteristics, feeding type, complementary feeding, food allergy, dietary behaviors based on the NQ-P questionnaire, and dietary habits of their family were considered. Exclusively breast-fed children was 32.2% of the subjects and the breast feeding duration was 6.5 months. Subjects who had complementary feeding within 6 months was 77.2% and starting time of complementary feeding was 6.1 months. Fifteen percent of the subjects had food allergies and foods that induced allergy were instant foods, eggs, milk and dairy products, nuts, seafood. Food allergy was not related to breast feeding nor complementary feeding. The NQ-P score and its 3 factors including ‘balance’, ‘moderation’, and ‘environment’ were 59.9, 61.1, 56.0, 62.6, respectively. There were positive relations between children’s dietary behaviors and family dietary habits such as breakfast eating frequency and meal regularity. As age of children increased, instant food intake increased and breakfast eating frequency decreased. Proper nutrition education is needed to children, their parents, and their care givers at childcare facilities to improve children’s dietary behavior and health.

        본 연구의 목적은 경남지역의 제과제빵 종사자들의 식품 알레르기에 대한 인식수준을 조사하고 이것을 바탕으 로 식품 알레르기 인식 개선 및 관리방안을 모색하는데 있다. 경남지역의 제과협회에 등록된 업체 대표자 및 종사자를 대상으로 조사를 실시하였으며 설문지는 식품 알 레르기와 제과제빵의 연관성, 개발 시 식품 알레르기 고려 여부, 식품 알레르겐 다량 함유 여부, 유발 원인 및 알 레르기 증상에 대한 차이를 확인하기 위해 작성 되었다. 102개 업체에 설문지를 배포하였고 그 중 67.7%(69개/102 개) 업체로부터 설문지가 회수 되어 통계 분석에 사용하 였고 수집 된 69개의 설문결과에 따르면 식품 알레르기에 대하여 알거나 들은 경험이 있는 제과제빵 종사자는 87%(60 명/69명)으로 대부분 경험이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 일 부 13%(9명/69명)의 종사자가 경험이 없다고 답하였다. 그 러나 제조과정 중 식품 알레르기를 ‘고려한다’ 73.9%(51 명/69명) 수준으로 응답했지만 식품 알레르겐과 식품 알 레르기 증상을 관리하는 방법에 대해서 대부분 알지못했 다. 제과제빵 종사자들을 위한 식품 알레르기교육 참가 여 부에 대해 ‘매우 그렇다’ 30.4%(21명/69명), ‘그렇다’ 40.6%

        The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of PM10 and O3 concentration on the symptoms of allergic diseases. The questionnaire was used to determine whether or not symptoms of allergic diseases were present from September to October 2012. The air pollution concentration data used was the corresponding point CEM (continuous emission monitoring) data. The average concentration of PM10 was 56.09 μg/m3 in the control area, and the concentration in the exposed area was 40.44 μg/m3. In the two areas, concentration of O3 was 28.73 ppb and 28.74 ppb, respectively. The total average concentrations of PM10 and O3 were 45.66 μg/m3 and 28.73 ppb in the Gwangyang area. The rate of asthma diagnosis was higher in the control area (9.6%) than in the exposed area (4.1%), but the rate of allergy eye disease was higher in the exposed area (23.9%) than in the control area (16.5%). There was a significant difference in the symptoms of some allergic diseases when the relative concentration of PM10 and O3 were high and low.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate perception of the Food Allergy Labeling System (FALS) of school foodservice in female middle school students. The subjects were 148 female middle school students in the Incheon metropolitan area. In this cross-sectional study, data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Only 20.9% of subjects had experience of food allergy education. There was no significant difference in food allergy knowledge by grade. The scores of perception of food allergy labeling by school foodservice were significantly higher in lower grade students (p<0.001). In all grades, highest scores were observed for ‘food allergy labeling is necessary’, whereas the lowest scores were for ‘I check the food allergy labeling’. The percentages of subjects who wanted to participate in food allergy education were significantly different (p<0.01); 73.8% in 1st grade, 50.0% in 2nd grade, and 35.7% in 3rd grade. For desired education contents to enhance perception of FALS, 57.5% of subjects answered ‘emergency management’ and 23.0% said ‘information of food allergy causing food’. Therefore, it is necessary to increase food allergy education and educate female middle school students according to grade in order to enhance perception of FALS.

        본 연구에서는 버섯추출물 (42개)의 in vitro 항알레르 기 효능탐색을 위해 랫드비만세포 (RBL-2H3 cell)에서 면역글로불린 (IgE)가 매개한 탈과립에 대한 저해 효과를 실험하였다. 이를 위해 anti-DNP IgE 및 DNP-HSA에 의 해 알레르기반응이 유발된 랫드비만세포에서 버섯 추출물 의 IL-4과 β-hexosaminidase 분비량에 대한 저해활성과 세포생존에 대한 영향이 분석되었다. 실험결과, IL-4 분비 에 대해서는 팽이버섯 물추출물 등 5개의 버섯 추출물이 20% 이상의 우수한 저해효과를 나타내었으며, β- hexosaminidase 분비에 대해서는 영지버섯의 물추출물 등 8개의 버섯 추출물이 20% 이상의 비교적 우수한 저해활성 을 나타내었다. 세포증식에 대해서는 잎새버섯의 물추출물 등 대부분의 버섯 추출물이 우수한 세포증식효과를 나타 내었다. 팽이버섯의 물추출물과 상황버섯의 물추출물은 β- hexosaminidase 및 IL-4 분비에 대해 모두 비교적 우수한 저해효과를 나타내었다. 추가로 2, 10, 50 ug/ml에서 실험 된 영지버섯, 편각영지버섯, 눈꽃동충하초, 상황버섯 그리 고 느타리버섯의 물추출물들은 β-hexosaminidase의 분비 량을 농도-의존적으로 감소시켰다. 이상의 결과를 살펴볼 때, 이들 in vitro 항알레르기 효과를 나타낸 버섯 추출물 들은 추가실험을 통해 항알레르기 소재로의 활용성 검토 가 필요하다고 사료되었다.

        Food allergy refers to an immunologically mediated adverse reaction to food, mainly to proteinaceous constituents. Health implications vary between those individuals who experience mild physical discomforts to those with fast-acting, life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. The prevalence of food allergy is higher in children than in adults, estimated around 4-8% and 1-2% respectively in developed countries. Food allergy has no effective cure at the present time and total avoidance of causative foods is the most reliable prophylactic method currently recommended by the medical community. To help food allergic patients to make informed choices of their foods, mandatory labeling of selected food allergens has been introduced in several countries. All food allergen labelling provisions specify a set of allergens common to the regulated countries. Policy divergence, however, exists between countries by inclusion of additional allergens unique to specific countries and enforcement of specific labelling requirements. Such variations in food allergen labelling regulations make it difficult to manage allergen labeling in imported pre-packaged food products. This paper addresses two current issues in food allergen regulation: 1) an urgent need to determine true prevalence of food allergy in the Asia-Pacific region. This will enable refinement to the food allergen regulation to be more country-specific rather than simply adopting CODEX recommendations. 2) There is an urgent need for harmonization of food allergen regulation in order to prevent food allergen regulation becoming a trade barrier.

        Background : The health-promoting effects of green tea are mainly attributed to its polyphenol content, particularly flavanols and flavonols, which account for 30% of a fresh leaf’s dry weight, but the ingredients of the polyphenol content vary depending on the species. This study was conducted to select some candidates with superior anti-oxidative and anti-allergy effects from among seven cultivars of green tea. Methods and Results : Green tea extracts were prepared by extraction with ethanol and by evaporation of the solvent at low pressure. To evaluate their anti-allergy effect and cell viability, the samples were tested for ß-hexosaminidase inhibitory activity and MTT assay of the RBL-2H3 cells, respectively. The anti-oxidation effects of the samples were analyzed with a DPPH radical scavenging activity. According to the results of the experiment, four extracts including Camelia sinensis var. Kemsull, C. sinensis var. Beachwisull, C. sinensis var. Chamnok and C. sinensis var. Fushun showed effective ß-hexosaminidase inhibitory activity at 12.5, 25, 50, 100 ㎍/㎖. At 50 ㎍/㎖, C. sinensis var. Saemidori had the highest cell viability as 86.1%, and all of the samples showed cell proliferation above 70% at 25 ㎍/㎖. The extract of C. sinensis var. Kemsull showed a 60 - 70% inhibitory effect on the DPPH radical at all of the tested concentrations, whereas the extracts of C. sinensis var. Ryohu, C. sinensis var. Saemidori, C. sinensis var. Yabukita showed lower DPPH inhibition effects at around 10 - 30%. Conclusion : The results of this study indicate that the extracts of C. sinensis var. Kemsull, C. sinensis var. Beachwisull, and C. sinensis var. Chamnok have more prominent anti-oxidation and anti-allergy effects than other cultivars, and thus could be utilized as resources for improving health.

        Wheat is one of major crop and wheat flour is used to various end-use products such as bread, cookies and noodles due to its unique characteristic of it as elasticity and viscosity. Wheat consumption has been generally increasing in not only US and Europe but also Korea. Nevertheless, gluten proteins in wheat endosperm are cause of allergy by food ingestion. Hence, studies on the allergy have been conducting and have been attracting public attention. Herein, we report studies on research trend of the issue with research papers over the last decade for suggestion of future research direction. Since 2012, studies on allergy of gluten proteins have been dramatically increased based on the number of published papers related to the issue. As results of research activities by country, the Europe accounted for 60% corresponding to the number of papers. Next US (13%), Japan (9%), China (5%), and Korea (2%) came. In Korea, studies on allergy of gluten protein are less studied. In the field of studying of gluten allergy, there are two major technologies as preclinical technology and genome research accounted for 58% and 26%, respectively. In Korea, the study on glutenin proteins which is closely related to wheat allergy is actively performed. Therefore, it can be expected that research will be become more active.

        Background : Allergy is a common disease caused by type I hypersensitivity reaction of the immune system. Unfortunately, there is no proper treatment for allergy. Therefore, the discovery of therapeutic drugs for allergy is essential. In this study, the crude extracts of 56 plant parts were screened for anti-allergy effects in RBL-2H3 cells. Methods and Results : IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells were individually treated with 56 extracts of medicinal herbs at the final concentration of 20 ㎍/㎖ and stimulated with the antigen DNP-BSA. β-Hexosaminidase release, interleukin-4 (IL-4) secretion, and cell viability in the sample treated cells were measured. Among the tested samples, extracts from the root of Polygonatum stenophyllum Maxim., aerial part of Acer triflorum Kom., and leaf of Pyrus pyrifolia var. culta (Makino) Nakai showed inhibitory effects on β-hexosaminidase release. The aerial part of Peucedanum japonicum Thunberg and seed of Panax ginseng C.A.Mey. showed suppressive activities on IL-4 secretion. All of the extracts were not cytotoxic at the tested concentration. Conclusion : From the result, six extracts including Polygonatum stenophyllum Maxim. (root) and Acer triflorum Kom. (aerial part) inhibited both β-hexosaminidase release and IL-4 secretion in IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells. The use of these extracts for developing anti-allergy materials is suggested.

        In this study, the inhibitory activities of fifty plant extracts on IgE-mediated degranulation in the rat basophilic leukemia cell line (RBL-2H3 cells) were measured; the release of interleukin (IL)-4 and β-hexosaminidase from IgE-sensitized cells treated with the plant extracts was measured; and the effects of the plant extracts on cell viability were tested. The results of the analysis of plant extracts at 20 ㎍/㎖, including the aerial part of Magnolia sieboldii K. Koch, exhibited suppressive activities upon the release of IL-4. Furthermore, several plant extracts including methanol extracted from Lindera erythrocarpa Makino (aerial part) at the same concentration significantly inhibited the release of β-hexosaminidase. Twenty-six of the plant extracts, including methanol extract of Weigela subsessilis (Nakai) L. H. Bailey (branch), showed a cell proliferation effect of over 80% at 100 ㎍/㎖. In conclusion, the results suggest that the leaf/stem of Geum japonicum Thunb. and the stamen/ovary of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn., which exhibited effective inhibition on β-hexosaminidase release and IL-4 release from mast cells and showed high cell viability, could be useful candidates as anti-allergy materials.

        The marine carotenoid fucoxanthin can be found in marine brown seaweeds, macroalgae, diatoms, and microalgae, and has remarkable biological properties. Numerous studies have shown that fucoxanthin has considerable potential and promising applications in human health, but the underlying mechanisms involved in its anti-allergic activity are not fully understood. We here investigated the mechanisms by anti-allergic activity of fucoxanthin fraction from Eisenia bicyclis in immunoglobulin E-antigen complex (IgE/DNP-BSA)-stimulated RBL-2H3 mast cells. This study we found that the fucoxanthin inhibits the release of β-hexosaminidase and suppressed not only transcriptional activation of NF-kB, but also phosphorylation of ERK and JNK in IgE/DNP-BSA-treated RBL-2H3 cells. Fucoxanthin may be useful for preventing allergic diseases, including asthma and atopic dermatitis.

        여러 가지 한약재의 추출물의 항알러지 활성을 증진시키기 위하여 장수상황버섯의 고체발효 중 시너지 효과를 확인하여 보았다. 그 결과 마황이 좋은 활성을 나타내어 DNFB (dinitrochlorobenzene)에 의해 유발된 접촉성 피부염 알러지 질환 동물모델에서 피부상피조직의 비후정도를 약 50%정도의 수준으로 완화시키며, 이는 면역조직화학적인 방법으로 확인하였다. 이 결과로, 마황 추출액의 장수상황버섯 고체발효의 최적 조건을 확립한다면 향장소재

        Soybean (Glycine max(L.) Merr.) is an important source of high protein and oil. Use of soybean meal bythe food industry is increasing, but severely limiting dietary choices and the quality of life of food-allergic individuals. Gly m Bd 30K (P34) is known as the main seed allergens in soybean-sensitive patients. The objective of this work was to determine the molecular basis of the low mutation of soybean P34 and to design polyclonal antibody for the selection of the causative mutations for wild homozygous, heterozygous and mutant homozygous. Using soybean genome assembly, we knew that soybean P34 genes are existing 2 copies in LG A1 and 1 copy in LG A2 in soybean genome. Actually, we confirmed that 3 copies for P34 gene were existed on soybean genome with Southern blot analysis. Glyma08g12270 of those was expressed at significantly higher level compared with Glyma08g12280 and Glyma05g29130by RT-PCR and western analysis. However this gene was not expressed in the low-P34 germplasm accessions. We develop a co-dominant marker based on the sequence of Glyma08g12270 containing a four-base pair insertion at the P34 start codon. Also, we make a polyclonal antibody for investigation of P34 protein levels. Further study, we will perform the crossing between low P34 accession and elite variety, backcrossing and allergen test using low P34 line.
