        본 연구는 오배자 에탄올 추출물 (GRE), 염소산나트륨 (SC) 그리고 오배자 에탄올 추출물과 염소산나트륨 합제(GS)의 B. abortus에 대한 항균효과를 확인하기 위해 수행 되었다. GRE, SC 그리고 GS를 B. abortus에 처리하여 배양한 후, B. abortus의 생존수를 확인하였으며, 마우스 탐식세포 내 감염된 B. abortus의 증식 억제효과를 경시별 (2, 24, 48시간)로 조사하였다. GRE, SC 그리고 GS는 각각 400 μg/mL 이하, 15 mM 그리고 0.6GS (GS 1, GRE 1,000 μg/mL + SC 30 mM) 이하의 농도에서 세포독성을 나타나지 않았다. 모든 처리구에서 B. abortus의 생존율은 용량- 의존적으로 현저하게 감소하는 결과를 나타내었다. 또한, GRE (400 μg/mL), SC (15 mM) 그리고 0.5GS (GRE 500 μg/mL + SC 15 mM)를 처리한 세포에서 배양 48시간 후에, B. abortus의 증식이 통계적으로 유의성 있게 감소하였으며 (GRE, p < 0.01; SC and 0.5GS, p < 0.001), 특히, GS를 처리한 경우, B. abortus의 세포내 증식이 GRE와 SC의 상승작용에 의한 강력한 항균효과를 나타내었다. 결론적으로, GS는 B. abortus에 대한 항균물질로서 유용할 뿐만 아니라, 식육과 우유 위생 분야에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

        본 연구에서는 곤약 가공을 위한 응고제와 침지액을 선정하고, 침지액 농도에 따른 식중독균에 대한 항균 활성을 확인하였다. 응고제 종류에 따른 곤약의 응고시간별 물성 변화는 응고액의 종류에 관계없이 응고시간이 진행될수록 경도, 검성 및 씹힘성이 증가하였다. 응고제 종류에 따른 곤약의 무기질 함량은 응고제가 Ca(OH)2일 경우, NaOH를 이용한 곤약보다 유의적으로 높은 Ca 함량을 나타내었으며, 응고제가 NaOH일 경우에는 Ca(OH)2보다 유의적으로 높은 Na 함량을 나타내었다. Mg와 P의 경우에는 응고제의 종류에 따른 유의적 차이는 보이지 않았다. 관능검사에서 색, 향, 맛, 조직감 및 전반적인 기호도는 응고제의 종류에 따른 유의적 차이는 없었다. 곤약의 제조과정 중 식중독균인 Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium을 접종하여 Ca(OH)2 농도에 따른 항균 활성을 본 결과, 1.0×10-4 N 용액에 저장한 곤약이 가장 항균 활성이 적었으며, 1.0×10-2 N 농도가 가장 항균 활성이 높았다. 즉, 응고액의 농도에 비례하여 균 성장이 억제됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 제조 공정 별 미생물 변화는 구약감자 분말을 입고하여 저장시켰을 때 미생물 수가 약간 증가하지만, 그 이후 공정부터는 미생물 수가 급격하게 감소되며, 성형 이후부터는 검출되지 않는 것으로 확인되었다.

        Rice can be the contaminating with soil-borne bacteria. Furthermore, the contaminated bacteria can be grown during immersion process for produce wet-milled rice flour. Therefore, disinfectants can be added during the immersion process. Antibacterial activities of the natural disinfectant, fermented rice spent water (FRSW), and the chemical disinfectants, chlorine dioxide (CD) and sodium benzoate (SB), were respectively determined when added in pure cultures of target bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus or when added to immersion water in the immersion process. In addition, rinsing effects for removing bacteria were determined when rice was rinsed with water before and after the immersion process. Antibacterial activities were rapidly increased as increasing amounts of the disinfectants are added to the pure cultures of the target bacteria. Antibacterial activity of CD was the most effective among the three tested disinfectants when added to the pure cultures of the target bacteria, respectively. Those of the same disinfectants were increased when they were increasingly added to the immersion water. However those of the disinfectants were less effective when added to the immersion water. On the other hand, rinsing effects for removing bacteria were the most effective when rice was rinsed only with water without the immersion process. Collectively, rinsing rice with water only was more effective than using disinfectants in the immersion water during rice flour production.

        This study investigated the antibacterial effects of GR ethanol extracts (GRE), sodium chlorate (SC) and a combination of GRE and SC (GS) on Brucella abortus (B. abortus). The antibacterial activities of GRE, SC and GS towards B. abortus were evaluated by incubating B. abortus with GRE, SC and GS. Following treatment with GRE, SC and GS, B. abortus survival and intracellular proliferation in macrophages were monitored. In the cellular cytotoxicity assay, GRE, SC and GS are not cytotoxic at concentrations less than 400 μg/ml, 15 mM and 0.6GS (1 of GS, GRE 1,000 μg/ml + SC 30 mM), respectively. The viability of B. abortus was markedly decreased in a dosedependent manner in all treatment groups. In addition, B. abortus intracellular proliferation within macrophages was significantly reduced in cells treated with GRE (400 μg/mL), SC (15 mM) and 0.5GS (GRE 500 μg/mL + SC 15 mM) after 48 hr-incubation (GRE, p < 0.01; SC and 0.5GS, p < 0.001). Especially, in the treatment of GS, the synergistic effect of GRE and SC treatment on B. abortus in macrophage was observed. In conclusion, GS is useful as an antibacterial candidate against B. abortus, and can be applied in the field of meat and milk hygiene.

        목적: 본 연구는 2-fluoro-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid 및 6-fluoropyridine-3-carboxylic acid를 사용하여 친수성 하이드로젤 콘택트렌즈 재질을 중합하고 제조된 친수성 콘택트렌즈의 물리적, 광학적 특성을 분석하여 이들 물질들의 콘택트렌즈 재료로서의 활용도를 알아보았다. 방법: 본 연구는 카르복시산 및 불소로 치환한 피리딘을 2가지 이상 첨가제로 사용하여 친수성 콘택트렌즈의 기본적인 재질인 HEMA(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), AA(acrylic acid), MMA(methylme-thacrylate), 개시제인 AIBN(azobisisobutyronitrile), 그리고 교차결합제인 EGDMA(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate)를 사용하여 공중합하였다. 결과: 생성된 고분자의 물리적 특성을 측정한 결과, 굴절률 1.4348-1.4300, 함수율 33.69~35.84%, 가시광선 투과율 89.6~90.8%, 인장강도 0.2292-0.3344kgf 그리고 접촉각의 경우 76.05°~50.95°의 분포를 나타내었다. 또한 황색포도상구균에 대한 항균실험 결과 2-fluoro-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid 및 6- fluoropyridine-3-carboxylic acid를 5% 첨가했을 때 항균효과가 다소 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결 론: 본 실험 결과, 2-fluoro-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid 및 6-fluoropyridine-3-carboxylic acid를 첨가하여 제조된 친수성 콘택트렌즈는 기본적인 콘택트렌즈 물성을 만족하였으며 우수한 습윤성과 항균성 및 자외선 차단 콘택트렌즈로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        목적: 황색포도상구균(Staphylococcus aureus)과 녹농균(Pseudomonas aeruginosa)으로 오염시킨 RGP 렌즈를 3가지 종류의 다목적용액에 침윤시킨 후 각 시간대별 두 균주의 항균효과를 비교하여 렌즈 소독에 필요한 침윤시간을 제시하고자 한다. 대상과 방법: 황색포도상구균과 녹농균의 배양액(농도 109 Colony Forming Unit/ml) 0.1ml와 LB broth 0.9ml 혼합액에 RGP 렌즈를 넣은 후 24시간 배양 후 실험을 시행하였다. 3가지 종류의 다목적용액을 1시간, 2시간, 3시간, 4시간, 5시간, 6시간, 7시간 동안 침윤시켜 항균 효과를 비교하였다. 결과: 황색포도상구균과 녹농균에 대한 다목적용액 간에 항균효과 차이는, 시간대별로 1시간 침윤으로 전체 균의 cfu가 약 43~47%, 55~63% 감소하였고, 2시간 침윤으로는 약 77~80%, 77~86% 감소하였다. 3시간 침윤으로는 약 97~98%, 85~97% cfu가 감소하였고, 4시간 침윤으로는 100%, 95~100% cfu가 감소하였다. 그리고 5시간, 6시간, 7시간 침윤으로는 다목적용액 모두 황색포도상구균(Staphylococcus aureus)과 녹농균(Pseudomonas aeruginosa)이 검출되지 않았다. 결론: 황색포도상구균은 다목적용액 4시간 이상의 침윤시간에서 검출되지 않았고 녹농균은 다목적용액 5시간 이상의 침윤시간에서 세균이 검출되지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구에 사용된 다목적용액을 RGP 콘택트렌즈 소독에 사용하는 경우 5시간 이상 침윤시켜야 할 것으로 사료된다.

        Salmonella species is one of the major bacterial agents that causes gastrointestinal disease in pigs. Natural antimicrobials derived from plants may be alternative therapeutics that could replace currently used antibiotics in the control of infectious disease. In this study, we assessed the antibacterial activity of Oenothera biennis L. extract against Salmonella Typhimurium both in vitro and in vivo. O. biennis L. extract had a strong inhibitory effect on S. Typhimurium in vitro, reducing bacterial growth by 87%. For the in vivo experiment, 16 post-weaned pigs were divided into 4 groups consisting of 4 pigs each: an uninfected, untreated negative control group; an untreated positive control group that was infected with S. Typhimurium; and two groups that were infected with S. Typhimurium and treated with either 0.1% or 0.5% O. biennis L. extract. Pigs were followed for 21 days after infection, and their body weight, daily gains, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and feed efficiency (FE) were monitored. The pigs treated with O. biennis L. extract had significantly higher daily gains than the positive control group (p<0.05). The O. biennis L. extract-treated pigs also exhibited better weight gain and FE, as well as a lower FCR and less severe diarrhea, than the positive controls but these results were not statistically significant. Our study demonstrates that O. biennis L. extract has antibacterial effects against S. Typhimurium, both in vitro and in vivo, and that these antibacterial effects may produce better growth performance in pigs infected with S. Typhimurium.

        Brucellosis is an important bacterial zoonotic infection worldwide responsible for economic losses in livestock industries which represents a considerable and increasing public health burden. The disease is caused by Brucella which possess the ability to invade and replicate within phagocytes and may result to chronic infection, leading to difficulty in medical therapy of the disease. The treatment for brucellosis employs conventional principles that have been applied for a long time and a combination of antibiotics is currently used due to low efficacy of monotherapies. However, vital effects with respect to health and safety are neglected. Nevertheless, the preventive methods and treatments for brucellosis using traditional medicine have not yet been thoroughly studied, hence, alternative therapies such as the use of natural plant extracts as traditional medicine that are safe, efficient and economical should be explored in order to identify candidates that eliminate complications due to brucellosis. Coptis chinensis Franch (Huanglian) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb and its extract has been known to possess strong antibacterial activity. In this study, the antibacterial effects of C. chinensis Franch extracts, and the major components of the herb namely berberine and palmatine, were investigated on B. abortus. The C. chinensis Franch ethanol extracts (CCFE) showed bactericidal effects at 1,000 μg/ml concentration and berberine at 100 μg/ml concentration. However, C. chinensis Franch and its components did not affect invasion and intracellular growth of B. abortus in RAW 264.7 cells. In conclusion, C. chinensis Franch ethanol extracts, water extract and its major components such as berberine and palmatine would be a beneficial antimicrobial agent without affecting phagocytic pathway within macrophages, and further study for the precise mechanisms of antibacterial effect would be necessary.

        김치 과숙에 관여하는 균주와 대장균의 성장을 억제하는항균활성을 지닌 균주를 김치로부터 선발하고자 하였다. 전국 6개도의 배추김치 10종으로부터 분리한 500여개의 균주를 대상으로 김치의 과도한 산생성에 관여할 것으로 예상되는 P. pentosaceus, Lb. sakei, Lb. plantarum과 원·부재로로부터 초기에 유입되는 대장균군의 저감화를 위하여 E.coli에 대한 항균활성을 살펴본 결과, 2-7 30 균주가 모든지시균주에 대해 뚜렷한 생육저지환을 나타내었다. 지시균주들에 대해 일부 항균활성을 나타낸 15균주를 최종적으로선발하여 동정한 결과, Lb. sakei, Lb. plantarum, Lb. brevis,Lb. paraplantarum, Leu. citreum으로 각각 동정되었다.

        Larvae black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens, is beneficial because its larvae feed on organic materials derived from plants, animals and humans and promote the recycling of food waste and organic materials. Chymotrypsin serine protease is one of the main digestive proteases in the midgut of and is involved in various essential processes. In a previous study, a gene encoding a chymotrypsin-like protease, Hi-SP1, was cloned from the larvae of Hermetia illucens and characterized. The objective of this study was to compare the digestive enzyme activity with various enzymes such as papain, protease and α-chymotrypsin. And also, we investigated the antimicrobial activity of the Hi-SP1 against the spoilage relate bacteria. The growth of the bacteria was inhibited in nutrient broth containing the Hi-SP1.

        황백 껍질은 황벽나무(Phellodendron amurense)의 건조된 수피로부터 얻어진다. 이 수피는 한국의 전통 한약제로서, 설사, 황달, 무릎과 발의 통증, 요도관 및 피부 감염증에 폭넓게 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구는 황벽나무의 메탄올 추출액으로부터 항균성 화합물 분리를 위해 CPC 방법으로 효과적으로 수행하였다. 두 용매의 CPC 최적조성은 n-butanol:acetic acid:water(4:1:5 v/v/v)이었다. 이동상의 유속은 1,000 rpm 회전력에서 상승법으로 분당 3 ㎖ 속도로 전개시켰다. CPC에서 분리된 분획분은 prep-HPLC로 정제하였다. 분리된 palmatine은 1H, 13C-NMR, ESI-MS 데이터 분석으로 확인하였다.

        Streptococcus suis (S. suis) is a major swine pathogen and an emerging zoonotic agent and is an increasing public health problem across Asia. The present study was undertaken to estimate the antibacterial effect of GR extract and therapeutic effect of GR extract against S. suis infection in mice. At the concentration of GR extract 2.5 mg/ml, the antibacterial effect was not shown on S. suis. However, the antibacterial effect against S. suis was observed at the concentration of GR extract 5.0 mg/ml. Oral administration of GR extract at the dose of 10 mg/kg showed a therapeutic effect for S. suis infected BALB/c mice. The mortality of GR extract-treated mice at the concentration of 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg was 80%, 70%, and 50% at 12 days, respectively, while that of untreated mice was 100% at 8 days after a lethal dose of S. suis infection. The results of our study strongly indicate that GR extract has potential as an effective for S. suis infection in mice.

        There are estimated to be about 700 species of bacteria in the oral cavity. Based on epidemiological investigations, some of these strains have been proposed as the pathogens responsible for oral diseases such as dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. Since electrolyzed hydrogen-rich water has been shown to have beneficial effects on human im- munity, its use has increased. In our study, the antibacterial activity of hydrogen-rich water for oralagainst bacteria asso- ciated with oral disease was evaluated. The bacterial strains Streptococcus mutans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphy- romonas gingivalis and Tannerella forsythia were cultured in specific growth medium. S. mutans, F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis were soaked to thein both hydrogen water and tap water for 30 sec and then inoculated onto mitis-sali- varius agar and brain heart infusion agar including supple- mented withvitamin K and hemin, respectively. The num- bers of bacterial colonies were then measured after cultiva- tion for 48 hours. In the case of T. forsythia, which does not grow well on agar plates, inoculations into modified new oral spirochete (NOS) broth were performed and growth curve analysis was undertaken every day with a spectrophotometer. Hydrogen water showed antibacterial activity against all four bacterial strains in comparison with tap-water. We conclude from this that hydrogen water may have a positive impact on oral hygiene by helping to remove cariogenic bacteria and periodontopathogens.

        This study was performed to evaluate the quality characteristics of sourdough bread with addition of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in the antibacterial activity. The starter cultures were used for sourdough bread to increase bread shelf-life: Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus paracasei KB28, and Pediococcus pentosaceus MJK7. The results showed that the viable counts of lactic acid bacteria were increased in 8.1~9.2 log cfu/㎖, respectively. The pH of the three sourdoughs was lower than that of control. In the texture characteristics, hardness, gumminess, and chewiness were tended to increase on the sourdough bread. Among the three sourdough breads, bread volume and retrogradation of bread were not significantly different. According to the results from preservation period, the sourdough breads with addition of Lb. paracasei KB28, Ped. pentosaceus MJK7 were showed the appearance of mold and bacteria growth in 5~6 days, whereas the control were showed in 3 days. As a result, a sensory evaluation indicated the highest overall acceptance in order of Lb. fermentum, Lb. paracasei KB28, Ped. pentosaceus MJK7. Based on these results, Lb. paracasei KB28 can be applicable to improve the quality of sourdough bread.

        We sought to study the qualities and scientific benefits of Dongchimi, a traditional Korean food. We compared and analyzed ingredients used for the appearance and storability of dongchimi - honggot (Brassica juncea czerniak et coss), cockscomb (Celosia cristata L.), and beet Beta vulgaris L.). We specifically examined the antioxidative and antibacterial activity of pigments from extracts of these ingredients. Distilled water (H2O) and 1% citric acid were used to safely extract pigments. The antioxidative activity of the pigments was then measured for total phenolic compounds, SOD (Super Oxide Dismutase), and EDA (Electron Donation Ability) by DPPH. The antibacterial activity of was also assessed by a Paper disc solution. Our results show that the pigments had sufficient antioxidative activity and had antibacterial properties against Gram positive and negative bacteria. In particular, Cockscomb (used for enhancing color) contained the highest amount of polyphenol compounds and had the most efficient antioxidative activity.

        Salmonellosis is a widespread bacterial zoonosis that commonly causes enterocolitis and foodborne poisoning leading to an extensive economic loss in domestic animal industry. Considerably, the emergence of multidrug resistant strains of Salmonella spp. induces further severe problems affecting public health. The present report was designated to investigate the antibacterial efficacies of three common disinfectants including an oxidizing compound disinfectant (OXC), a triple salt (TS) and a quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) against Salmonella typhimurium subjected to the preliminary changes of drug temperature. All solutions of three disinfectants were pre-incubated at different temperature (22, 37 and 63°C) for 1 h prior to exposure to bacteria. The disinfectants and bacteria were diluted with distilled water (DW), hard water (HW) or organic matter suspension (OMS) according to treatment condition. Under the DW condition, the disinfectant efficacy of the QAC at 63°C was higher than that of 22°C. Furthermore, under HW diluent the disinfectant efficacy of the TS pre-warmed at both of 37 and 63°C were increased compared to that of 22°C. Considerably, the efficacy of pre-warmed QAC at both of 37 and 63°C under the OMS diluent were higher than that of 22°C. Conclusively, prewarming at higher temperatures have positive effects on the stability of the antibacterial efficacies of TS and QAC.

        In this study, a medicinal herbal plant, Cinnamomum cassia, was extracted by three different methods using water, methanol, or ethanol. For anti-helicobacter activity screening, inhibitory zone tests as an in vitro assay were performed respectively with the extracting compounds. As the result of inhibitory zone test, Cinnamomum cassia extract exhibited strong anti-helicobacter activity. In addition, we performed a comparison of the antibacterial activities according to the extracting methods of Cinnamomum cassia against Helicobacter pylori. The 70% ethanol-extracted compound exhibited stronger anti-helicobacter activity than the compounds extracted with water or methanol. These results indicate that it can be used for treatment against H. pylori infection and protected against H. pylori-induced pathology using 70% ethanol-extracted Cinnamomum cassia.

        In recent days, there is much interest in the biocidal activity of silver since silver is known to be safe and effective as disinfectant and biocidal material against bacteria and viruses. There is also increased interest in the nano-sized silver particles which can be used as effective bactericidal material. The purposes of this study were to investigate the effect of silverized elastomers on growth of oral pathogenic microorganisms, including Streptococcus mutans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis by comparing with conventional non-silverized elastomers. The antibacterial efficacy of silverized elastomer against oral pathogenic microbes was investigated by modified disk diffusion test and growth inhibition test. In modified disk diffusion test, silverized elastomer showed no antibacterial activity against S. mutans, F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis, In culture medium, the growth of S. mutans, F. nucleatum, P. gingivalis was not inhibited by silverized elastomer. Silverized elastomer exhibited no bacteriostatic and/or bacteriocidal effects against some experimental strain.nd clinical indications and diseases.
