Buckwheat leaves have the best antioxidant properties, including flavonoids, rutin, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging ability compared to common buckwheat and tartary buckwheat. The total dietary fiber content of the powder extracted by mixing buckwheat leaves and sea tangle was 30.5%. To manufacture bread containing mixed buckwheat flour, 10, 20, and 30% buckwheat flour was mixed in to produce buckwheat bread. The bread’s characteristics underwent significant changes with varying levels of buckwheat flour. As the buckwheat content increased, the size of the bread decreased, but its hardness, gumminess, and chewiness tended to increase. The sensory characteristics of the bread were not improved due to the addition of gluten in the case of bread mixed with 20% buckwheat flour. When the buckwheat flour content was mixed at 20%, and the mixed extract of buckwheat leaves and sea tangle were added at 0.4% and 1.0%, there was no significant difference in the appearance of the buckwheat bread. Still, regarding sensory properties, the preference was higher in the sample with 1.0% added buckwheat flour.
To enhance the efficacy of Abeliophyllum distichum leaves, extracts were prepared using different solvents for hydrolytic enzyme-treated Abeliophyllum distichum leaves. Physicochemical quality and antioxidant activity were measured. Soluble solids, reducing sugar, ascorbic acid, flavonoids, and polyphenols contents showed the lowest values in the control without enzyme treatment. However, they showed high contents in ethanol extract. In the case of enzyme treatment, their values were higher than those of the control. In particular, verbascoside content increased about 220 times more than that of the control group when treated with enzymes and extracted with 50% ethanol. pH was lowered upon enzymatic treatment. Regarding DPPH radical scavenging activity, for enzyme-free, 25% ethanol extract showed the highest activity among extracts with different solvents. For cellulase and pectinase-treated leaves, water extract showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity among extracts with different solvents. For leaves treated with enzyme combination, 50% ethanol extract showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity among extracts with different solvents. Regarding ABTS radical scavenging activity, it was generally higher in the 50% ethanol extract than in the water extract and 25% ethanol extract. In particular, verbascoside content was increased when the extract was prepared by co-treatment with enzymes and 50% ethanol.
The Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai is a white band on the edge of the leaf, the branch is not split, the stem is small, and the shape of the node is different from that of the inland bamboo (Sasa borealis Makino).
It is known as a plant that is highly likely to be used as a resource plant. Various efficacy studies such as antioxidant, anti-obesity, antibacterial and antidiabetic activities have been conducted and developed as functional cosmetics and beverage products. Unfortunately there is little research on the suitability of the product.
In order to use S. quelpaertensis as a raw material for food or health functional food, S. quelpaertensis leaves were collected monthly for one year to prepared 70% ethanol extract(SQEP) and water extract(SQWP). After, the content of index component(p-coumaric acid) in SQEP and SQWP was analyzed by HPLC. For the study of the processing properties, the SQWP was prepared considering the content of the index component and extraction yield(%). Also, the stability of index component according to pH(2.5, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0) condition and stability of index component according to temperature condition(25℃, 35℃, 40℃) were studied.
Through this process ability(properties) study, we suggest that the SQWP may be used as a product material of health functional foods.
본 연구는 예부터 약용으로 사용되었거나, 현재 식품공 전에 식품원료로 사용이 가능한 것으로 등록된 국내 산림 지역에 자생하는 식물을 식품산업에 활용하고자 선행연구에서 우수한 항산화 활성을 보인 갈참나무 잎을 본 연구 에서 사용하였다. 70% 에탄올을 이용하여 추출한 갈참나무 잎을 이용하여, hydrogen peroxide로 산화적 스트레스를 유도한 피부 섬유아세포에서의 세포 보호효과, 세포내 항산화 효과 및 항노화 효과를 측정하였다. 세포 독성을 평가한 결과 25, 50 및 100 μg/mL의 갈참나무 잎 추출물을 처리하였을 때 모두 독성을 나타내지 않았으며, hydrogen peroxide로 산화적 스트레스를 유도한 상태에서는 세포를 보호하여 농도 유의적으로 세포생존율이 증가하였다. 특히, 100 μg/mL의 농도에서는 양성대조군으로 사용한 50 μM ascorbic acid 수준까지 세포 생존율이 증가하였다. 세포내 항산화 효과를 확인 하기위해 사용한 H2-DCFDA assay에서는 형광현미경과 형광흡광도 측정에서 모두 농도 유의적으로 세포내 ROS 저감 활성을 확인하였고 갈참나무 잎 추출물을 100 μg/mL 농도로 처리했을 때는 50 μM ascorbic acid와 비슷한 세포내 항산화 효과를 나타내었다. 또한 SA- β-galactosidase assay를 이용한 갈참나무 잎 추출물의 피부 섬유아세포에 대한 항노화활성은 ROS 생성 억제 효과 와 유사한 경향으로 갈참나무 잎 추출물의 농도 유의적으로 세포 노화 억제효과를 확인하였다. 이상의 결과를 종 합하여 볼 때 갈참나무 잎 추출물이 hydrogen peroxide로 인한 산화적 스트레스 상태에서 세포 보호효과, 항산화 효 과 및 항노화 효과가 관찰되어 기능성 식품원료로서의 활용도가 매우 넓을 것으로 판단된다.
현재 식품공전에 식품원료로 사용이 가능한 것으로 등 록된 국내 산림지역 자생 식물을 식품산업에 활용하고자 국내 자생식물 45종을 선별하였고, 본 연구팀의 선행연구 에서 45종의 항산화 활성을 평가한 결과, 다른 종들과 비 교하여 우수한 항산화 활성을 보인 밤나무 잎을 본 연구 에서 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 hydrogen peroxide로 산화적 스트레스를 유도한 상태에서 밤나무 잎 추출물의 세포 보호효과, 세포내 항산화 효과 및 항노화 효과를 관찰 하였다. 세포 보호효과를 측정한 결과 밤나무 잎 추출물 의 농도 유의적으로 세포를 보호하는 효과를 확인하였고, 특히 100 μg/mL에서는 양성대조군으로 사용한 항산화 물질인 ascorbic acid 수준까지 세포를 보호하는 효과를 나타내었다. H2-DCFDA 염색을 통한 세포내 항산화 효과를 확인한 결과, 형광현미경과 형광흡광도 측정에서 모두 밤나무 잎 추출물이 농도 유의적으로 세포내 ROS를 저감을 확인하였고, 세포 보호효과와 마찬가지로 농도 100 μg/mL 에서는 ascorbic acid와 비슷한 수준을 보였다. SA-β- galactosidase 염색을 통하여 관찰한 세포노화 억제 효과는 ROS 생성 억제 효과와 유사한 경향으로 밤나무 잎 추출 물의 농도 유의적으로 세포노화 억제를 관찰되었다. 이상 의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 밤나무 잎 추출물은 산화적 스트레스로 인한 세포노화를 억제하는 효능을 보였으며, 이는 천연물에서 유래한 항산화 및 항노화 활성 첨가제로 활용도가 매우 넓을 것으로 판단된다.
The aim of this research was to investigate the anti-oxidantive activities of extracts from Chionanthus retusus leaves, fruits and flower. The content of phenolics were 20.8 mg/g in water extracts and 32.2 mg/g in 90% ethanol extracts from flower. The DPPH free radical scavenging activity of extracts from Chionanthus retusus was above 70% at phenolic concentration 100 μg/mL. The ABTS radical decolorization activities of water and ethanol extracts were both above 80% at 100 μg/mL phenolic concentration, respectively. The antioxidant protection factor(PF) of water and 80% ethanol extracts from leaves was the highest as 2.27 PF and 1.70 PF at 50 μg/mL phenolic concentration. The TBARs inhibition rate of the Chionanthus retusus extracts, was above 70% at 200 μg/mL phenolic concentration. The anti-oxidantive activities of extracts from leaves were shown more active than BHT as a positive control except TBARs. These results confirmed that the extracts from Chionanthus retusus leaves, fruits and flower was shown the high anti-oxidant activity. The results can be expected isolated phenolic compounds from Chionanthus retusus to use as functional beauty food resource.
Recently, the concern about safety and functional substances of foods are increased therefore antioxidant substances and plants which had pharmacological effect have been studied actively. It has been known that the mulberry leaf is effective in curing many diseases. Nowaday, the pharmachological effects of mulberry leaves on diabetes mellitus and their usage for many aspects were confirmed. Mulberry leaves are known for effective in prevention of diabetes mellitus, because of specific amino acids and fibers. In this study, methanol, hexane, chlorform, ethyl acetate, and butanol extracts obtained from mulberry leaves were added to soybean oil and they were stored for 30 days at 60±2℃ and peroxide value(POV) and conjugated diene value(CDV) were measured periodically. Results of this study were obtained as follows; 1. The POV of soybean oil after the addition of each mulberry leaves powder(MLP) extracts generally enhanced as the storage time was prolonged, so the POV of all samples was reached higher than 100meq./kg.oil after 10 days storage without the addition of butanol, methanol, ethylacetate, hexane extracts at 0.1% level. Especially, the POV of soybean oils including butanol extract was 87.35meq/kg.oil after 10 days storage and antioxidant activity of butanol extract was shown to be superior to that of BHT. The pattern of the changes of the CDV of soybean oil after the addition of MLP extracts at 0.02%, 0.05% and 0.1%, respectively, were almost constant during 10 days of storage and then rapidly increased during the rest of experimental periods. During 10 days of storage in case of 0.1% adding level, the antioxidant activities of the butanol extract was superior to that of the each MLP extracts.
흰쥐의 식이섭취량에서 각각 지방 및 고콜레스테롤식이에 대나무 잎 추출물을 병합 급여하지 않는 군에 비하여 대나무잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한군이 증가하였고, 체중증가량은 각각 지방 및 고콜레스테롤 식이에 대나무잎 추출물을 급여하지 않는 군에 비하여 대나무잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한군이 감소하였다. 식이효율은 지방식이군에 비하여 대조군이 증가하였으나 유의한 없었다. 또한 각각의 지방식이에 대나무잎 추출물을 급여하지 않는 군에 비하여 대나무 잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한 군간에는 별다른 차이를 보이지 않았다. 중성지질 농도에서 대조군은 241.17 mg/dL 인데 비하여 지방식이군은 249.00 mg/dL으로 증가하였다. 대나무잎 추출물을 급여하지 않는 각 지방 및 고콜레스테롤 식이군은 254.00~255.50 mg/dL인데 비하여 대나무잎 추출물을 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한 군은 225.60~240.60 mg/dL으로 감소하였으며 특히3% 농도군이 가장 낮았다. 총콜레스테롤 함량에서 대조군은 96.17 mg/dL에 비하여 지방식이군은 124.50 mg/dL으로 유의하게 증가하였다. 대나무 잎 추출물을 급여하지 않는 각각의 지방 및 고콜레스테롤 식이군은 134.07~199.33 mg/dL인데 비하여 대나무잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병함 급여한 군은 101.13~131.80 mg/dL으로 유의하게 감소하였다. HDL-콜레스테롤 농도에서 대조군은 17.50 mg/dL인데 비하여 지방식이군은 18.50 mg/dL으로 증가하였으며, 각 지방 및 고콜레스테롤 식이군에 대나무 잎 추출물을 병합 급여하지 않는 군은 16.00~19.00 mg/dL이나 대나무 잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한 군은22.00~24.80 mg/dL으로 증가하였다. LDL-cholesterol 함량은 대조군에 비하여 지방 식이군의 함량이 증가하였고, 각각의 지방 및 고콜레스테롤 식이에 대나무잎 추출물 농도를 달리하여 병합 급여한 군은 92.00~111.00 mg/dL 인데 비하여 대나무잎 추출물을 급여하지 않는 군은 111.17~122.40 mg/dL으로 유의적으로 증가하였으며 동맥경화지수는 대나무잎 추출물을 급여시 유의적으로 감소되었다.
마편초과의 좀목형 엽에 함유된 물질의 allelopathy 효과를 구명하기 위해 수용성 엽 추출액, 메탄올 엽 추출액, 엽 분말과 토양과의 혼화된 pot에 각각 상치, 이탈이란라이그라스, 개솔새, 억새 종자를 발아실험하여 발아억제물질을 분석한 결과는다음과 같다. 1. 좀목형 엽 분말을 증류수에 각각 24, 48, 72 시간 침지 후 추출물에 상치, 이탈리안라이그라스, 개솔개, 억새 종자를 파종한 후의 발아율은 각 처리구마다 대조구마다 높은 발아억제를 보였고, 48시간 침지시에는 각각 26.9%, 58.8%, 6.6%, 22.2%의 발아율을 보여 강한 발아억제현상르 보였다. 2. 좀목형 엽 분말을 메탄올 75%에 24, 48시간 침지 후 추출물에 이탈리아라이그사스, 개솔새, 억새 종자를 파종한 후의 발아율은 48시간 추출액때 각각 33.3%, 15.4%, 7.7%를 보여 48시간 수용성 추출액과 24시간 메탄올 추출액보다 강한 발아억제효과가 있었다. 3. 좀목형 엽 분말과 Vermiculite를 1: 99.5: 95, 10:90, 20:80(w/w)으로 구분한 pot에 공시수종을 파종한 결과 엽 분말의 비율이 높을수록 발아억제효과가 컸으며, 엽 분말이 20%인 경우 발아된 부분의 건중량의 비율은 실험구와 대조구간에 비교한 발아율의 비율보다 훨씬 낮아 생장억제효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 4. Column chromatography의 TLC를 이용하여 최종 7 fraction을 찾고 생물검정 결과, 5, 6번 fraction에 강한 활성을 나타냈다. 5. UV 와 IR분광분석 결과 UV 분광분석은 256 nm과 336nm에서 흡수 최대를 나타내었으며, 이들은 시르시트시약을 사용하여 검토한 결과 7위에 에테르 결합한 전형적인 플라본류로 추정되었고, IR 분광분석 결과 지방족에 에테르결합이 존재하는 것으로 생각되었다. 6. Py-GC-MS 분석으로부터 5, 6 fraction의 경우 플라본류에 1개의 당이 결합한 배당체 구조이고 B환의 경우 1개 또는 2개 이상의 페놀성 수산기의 존재가 예상되었다.
In this study, we were performed to elucidate the antioxidant and anticancer activity by leaves extracts from Acer tegmentosum (AT-L). In DPPH, ABTS radical scavenging activity, the AT-L revealed the high scavenging activity. Especially, the AT-L measured the highest ABTS radical scavenging activity, which is higher than ascorbic acid. The types of human cancer cells for evaluating the anticancer activity were colorectal cancer (SW480), prostate cancer (PC-3), breast cancer (MCF-7), pancreatic cancer (AsPC-1), lung cancer (A549) and liver cancer (HepG2). Human cancer cell viability was measured using MTT assay. Treatment of the AT-L decreased the cell viability and induced apoptosis in SW480 cells. These results suggest that extracts of the AT-L can be used as supplementary material for developing the natural antioxidant and anticancer drug for human cancer cells.
In this study, we evaluated the effect of branch (STB) and leave (STL) extracts from Sageretia thea on β-catenin level in human colorecal cancer cells, SW480 and lung cancer cells, A549. STB and STL dose-dependently suppressed the growth of SW480 and A549 cells. STB and STL decreased β-catenin level in both protein and mRNA level. MG132 decreased the downregulation of β-catenin protein level induced by STB and STL. However, the inhibition of GSK3β by LiCl or ROS scavenging by NAC did not block the reduction of β-catenin protein by STB and STL. Our results suggested that STB and STL may downregulate β-catenin protein level independent on GSK3β and ROS. Based on these findings, STB and STL may be a potential candidate for the development of chemopreventive or therapeutic agents for human colorectal cancer and lung cancer.
In this study, we evaluated the whitening activity of prethanol A and water extracts from Abeliophyllum distichum Nakai. The extracts were prepared using 0, 50, 70, and 100% prethanol A at 121℃, 1.2 atm for 15 minutes. To confirm effective extraction, the acteoside content of each extract was analyzed with the HPLC-PDA method. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH and ABTS scavenging activity assays, and the whitening activity was evaluated based on inhibitory activities on the protein and mRNA expression of tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TRP-1), tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP-2), and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) in B16 F10 cells. Each extract showed strong antioxidant and whitening activity. IC50 values of antioxidant activity from each extract were in order of 100%, 70%, 50%, and 0%. In addition, whitening activity inhibited the protein and mRNA expression of melanin synthesis factor, following the same pattern as antioxidant activity. In conclusion, water and prethanol A extracts of A. distichum showed effective antioxidant and whitening activity and are thus considered to be valuable materials for whitening cosmetics. The results of this study will also provide basic data for the safe and efficient production of A. distichum as a cosmetic material.
Aralia cordata (A. cordata), which belongs to Araliaceae, is a perennial herb widely distributed in East Asia. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of stems (AC-S), roots (AC-R) and leaves (AC-L) extracted with 100% methanol of A. cordata and elucidated the potential signaling pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. The AC-L showed a strong anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of NO production. AC-L dose-dependently inhibited NO production by suppressing iNOS, COX-2 and IL-β expression in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. AC-L inhibited the degradation and phosphorylation of IκB-α, which donated to the inhibition of p65 nuclear accumulation and NF-κB activation. Furthermore, AC-L suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and p38. These results suggested that AC-L may utilize anti-inflammatory activity by blocking NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathway and indicated that the AC-L can be used as a natural anti-inflammatory drugs.
Background: The plant Aster koraiensis has long been used as an ingredient in folk medicine. It has been reported that Aster koraiensis extract (AKE) prevents the progression of diabetes-induced retinopathy and nephropathy. However, although these beneficial effects of AKE on diabetes complications have been identified, the antidiabetic effects of AKE have not yet been completely investigated and quantified. In the present study, the glucose-lowering and antioxidant effects of aqueous and ethanolic AKEs were evaluated.
Methods and Results: The glucose-lowering effects of aqueous and ethanolic (30%−, 50%−, and 80%-ethanol) AKEs were investigated via α-glucosidase inhibitory assays. The mode of inhibition by AKEs on α-glucosidase was identified through kinetic analysis. The total antioxidant capacity of each of the 4 AKEs was evaluated by assessing their conversion rate of Cu2+ to Cu+. The content of chlorogenic acid and 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, the bioactive compounds in AKE, in each extract were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The AKEs showed potent α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with mixed inhibition mode, and significant antioxidant capacity.
Conclusions: These results of this study suggested that the AKEs tested had α-glucosidase inhibitory and antioxidant effects. Among the extracts, the 80% ethanol extract showed the most significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50 value) of 1.65 ± 0.36㎎/㎖ and a half maximal effective concentration (EC50 value) for its antioxidant activity of 0.42 ± 0.10㎎/㎖. It can therefore be used as a source of therapeutic agents to treat diabetes patients.
Background : 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) is a representative compound of the antidiabetic constituent in mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.). The hot water extracts of mulberry leaves were fermented with lactic acid bacteria in order to analysis the changes of the DNJ contents and α-glucosidase inhibition. Methods and Results : The mulberry leaves were extracted with hot water (121℃, 3 hr). The extracts were fermented with nine strains of lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, in order to increase the contents of DNJ and α-glucosidase inhibition. DNJ contents in the fermented extracts were determinated by HPLC analysis. The α-glucosidase inhibition was mesured by comparing dose-inhibition curves of α-glucosidase and IC50 value. The DNJ contents after fermentation have increased in the almost fermented extracts. Especially, DNJ of the extracts fermented with L. acidophilus was increased from 8.38 ㎍ ㎖ -1 to 21.77 ㎍ ㎖-1. IC50 values of the α-glucosidase inhibition were shown to be decreased in the fermented extracts. The extracts fermented with L. casei KCTC 3109 was determined at 290.04 ㎍ ㎖-1, resulting it is lower about 140 ㎍ ㎖-1 than 429.76 ㎍ ㎖-1 of the control. Conclusion : From the above results, we may suggest that the lactic acid fermentation of mulberry leaves extracts can more enhance the hypoglycemic activities such as DNJ contents.
소사나무(Carpinus turczaninowii, C. turczaninowii) 잎 추출물의 멜라닌 생성 억제활성을 B16F10 melanoma 세포를 이용하여 측정하였다. 그 결과, 에탄올 추출물(100 μ g/mL)에서 72.2%의 생성 억제 효과를 확인하였으며, 동일 농도에서 MTT 세포독성은 거의 나타나지 않았다. 분획물(헥산, 에틸아세테이트, 부탄올 및 물)을 제조한 후 실험을 진행한 결과, 에틸아세테이트 분획에서 가장 우수한 활성이 관찰되었다. 에틸아세테이 트 분획에서 활성성분을 규명하기 위하여 크로마토그라피를 진행하였으며, 4개의 화합물을 분리 동정하였다; ethyl gallate (1), quercetin rhamnose (2), kaempferol rhamnose (3), quercetin galloylrhamnose (4). 화합물의 구조규명은 핵자기공명분광기 등을 이용하여 이루어졌으며, 4개의 화합물 모두 소사나무 잎에서는 처 음 분리된 물질이다. 분리된 화합물을 대상으로 멜라닌 생성 억제활성 실험을 진행한 결과, 화합물 4에서 세포독 성 없이 농도의존적인 억제활성을 확인하였다. 또한, 화합물 4는 세포 내에서 티로시나제 발현양을 감소시키고 있음을 ELISA를 통하여 확인하였다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로, 소사나무 잎 추출물이 화장품에서 미백제로 활용 될 가능성이 있다고 판단된다.
In the growth of the Rubus coreanus Miquel fruits, the unripened (10 days) and ripened (25 days) fruits after flowering were harvested. The chemical characteristics of different maturational stages of the unripened and ripened fruits were investigated. Total amount of phenolic compounds was 4.00-7.56% in the unripened fruits and 3.78-5.57% in the ripened fruits, respectively. Furthermore, total amounts of organic acids such as malic, citric, succinic, and oxalic acids were 16.40 mg/ 100 g in the unripened fruits and 28.82 mg/100 g in the ripened fruits, respectively. In organic acids of the unripened and the ripened fruits, citric acid (8.76-15.47 mg/100 g) was the highest amount among other organic acids. Soluble sugars were significantly increased from 11.07 to 21.54% in the unripened and ripened fruits. Therefore, ripened fruits had the high levels of phenolic compounds, organic acids and soluble sugars. For the biological studies of R. coreanus, methanol extracts of R. coreanus leaves, fruits, and stems were evaluated for their insecticidal activities against Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae), Plutella xylostella (Lepioptera: Plutellidae) and Spodoptera litura (Lepioptera: Noctuidae) by leaf dipping method. From these results, the extract of R. coreanus leaves revealed potent insecticidal activity against P. xylostella. However, the methanol extracts of R. coreanus fruits and stems had no any insecticidal activity against M. persicae, P. xylostella and S. litura. The R. coreanus leaves have promising potential as new insecticidal agent against P. xylostella.
본 연구에서는 좁은잎천선과 잎 추출물 및 극성별 용매 분획물의 항산화 활성을 검색하고 유효성분을 분리하여 화학구조를 규명하였다. 좁은잎천선과 잎 추출물 및 용매 분획물의 DPPH 및 ABTS+ 라디칼 소거 활 성을 측정한 결과 에틸아세테이트 분획물에서 우수한 라디칼 소거 활성을 확인하였다. 활성이 좋은 에틸아세테 이트 분획물에서 유효성분을 찾고자 vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC), silica gel column chromatography를 실시하였으며, 분리된 화합물은 1H 및 13C NMR 데이터 분석 및 문헌치 비교를 통하여 총 5개의 화합 물을 동정하였다. 분리된 화합물은 monoolein (1), oleic acid (2), lutein (3), afzelechin (4), catechin (5)으 로 확인되었으며 이들은 모두 좁은잎천선과에서 처음으로 분리된 화합물이다. 분리된 화합물에 대한 DPPH 및 ABTS+ 라디칼 소거 활성 실험 결과 afzelechin (4) 및 catechin (5)에서 활성이 우수하게 나타났으며 특히 catechin (5)의 경우 대조군인 비타민 C보다 더 좋은 라디칼 소거 활성이 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 HPLC 분석 을 통해 좁은잎천선과 잎에서 분리된 catechin의 함량을 확인한 결과 추출물에서 3.8 mg/g, 에틸아세테이트 분획물에서 20.8 mg/g이 함유되어 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 이상의 연구 결과로부터 좁은잎천선과 잎을 이용한 천연 항산화 소재로의 개발이 가능할 것이라 사료된다
