Ainsliaea acerifolia leaves are registered with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as edible herbal materials in Korea, and research is underway to explore their potential in developing functional foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. In this study, we developed an analytical method using HPLC-DAD to quantify three key compounds—chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A, and 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid—in A. acerifolia leaves extract. This method has been optimized and validated for specificity, accuracy, precision, limit of quantification (LOQ), and linearity. The correlation coefficients (r²) for the calibration curves exceeded 0.9962. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.3012 and 0.9128 μg/mL for chlorogenic acid, 0.1182 and 0.3582 μg/mL for isochlorogenic acid A, and 0.2342 and 0.7098 μg/mL for 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, respectively. The net recovery rates for accuracy testing were 105.13% for chlorogenic acid, 105.37% for isochlorogenic acid A, and 100.37% for 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid. All parameters assessed with this newly developed method fell within the acceptable ranges specified by ICH guidelines. These findings demonstrate that the method is robust and reliable for accurately identifying and quantifying chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A, and 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid in both routine analysis and large-scale extraction process of A. acerifolia leaves.
본 연구는 Diode Array Detector (DAD)가 장착된 고성능 액체 크로마토그래피(HPLC)를 이용하여 산초나무 잎에 함유된 chlorogenic acid와 hesperidin을 동시에 분석할 수 있는 표준 정량법 개발을 확립하고자 실시하였다. 산초나무 잎의 chlorogenic acid와 hesperidin은 MS/MS 분석 및 표준물질과의 유지시간(RT), UV 흡광도 비교를 통해 확인하였고, 산초나무 잎의 지표물질로 선정하였다. 개발한 분석방법은 지표물질을 대상으로 특이성, 정확성, 정밀도, 검출한계, 정량한계, 선형성에 대해 최적화하고 검증하였다. HPLC 분석으로 두 화합물에 대한 검량선은 각각 0.99% 이상의 높은 상관계수(r2)를 보였다. Chlorogenic acid의 전체 회수율은 106.82%이었고, hesperidin의 전체 회수율은 107.37%였다. Chlorogenic acid의 검출한계(LOD)는 0.271μg/ml, Hesperidin의 검출한계(LOD)는 0.005μg/ml였다. Chlorogenic acid의 일간정밀도는 0.102% (RSD%), Hesperidin의 일간정밀도는 1.038% (RSD%)였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 HPLC-DAD 분석방법은 기능성 원료 인정을 위한 분석기준을 충족하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서 확립한 HPLC 분석법은 향후 산초나무 잎에서 유래한 생리활성물질의 대량추출 및 관련제품을 개발할 때 원료 표준화에 적용가능할 것이다.
Buckwheat leaves have the best antioxidant properties, including flavonoids, rutin, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging ability compared to common buckwheat and tartary buckwheat. The total dietary fiber content of the powder extracted by mixing buckwheat leaves and sea tangle was 30.5%. To manufacture bread containing mixed buckwheat flour, 10, 20, and 30% buckwheat flour was mixed in to produce buckwheat bread. The bread’s characteristics underwent significant changes with varying levels of buckwheat flour. As the buckwheat content increased, the size of the bread decreased, but its hardness, gumminess, and chewiness tended to increase. The sensory characteristics of the bread were not improved due to the addition of gluten in the case of bread mixed with 20% buckwheat flour. When the buckwheat flour content was mixed at 20%, and the mixed extract of buckwheat leaves and sea tangle were added at 0.4% and 1.0%, there was no significant difference in the appearance of the buckwheat bread. Still, regarding sensory properties, the preference was higher in the sample with 1.0% added buckwheat flour.
본 연구는 Lactobacillus acidophilus KCTC 3164 균주에 의해 발효된 깻잎 발효 추출물 (5%, 10%, 15%, 및 20% w/v)을 기능성 첨가제로 사용하여 깻잎 발효물이 첨가된 아이스크림을 제조 함이 목적이다. 깻잎 발효물이 첨가된 아이스크림의 물리·화학적 특성(색상, 점도, pH, 총 산도, 녹는 속 도, 오버런) 및 항산화 활성을 평가하였다. 깻잎 발효물 첨가량이 증가할수록 아이스크림의 색상에 영향 을 주었으며, 아이스크림의 녹는 속도도 증가하였다. 이에 반해 점도는 점차적으로 감소하는 경향을 나 타내었다. 깻잎 발효물 첨가량이 높을수록 오버런은 점진적으로 증가하였고, pH는 유의하게 감소하였으 며, 총 산도는 증가하였다. 깻잎 발효물이 첨가된 아이스크림의 DPPH 라디컬 소거능과 총 폴리페놀 함 량은 깻잎 발효물 첨가량이 많아질수록 유의적으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 10% 깻잎 발효추출물을 함유한 아이스크림 실험군이 높은 오버런, 낮은 녹는 속도, 원하는 점도, 높은 DPPH 라디 컬 소거능과 총 폴리페놀 함량을 보여 기능성 아이스크림으로의 잠재력이 있는 것을 알 수 있었다.
This study investigated major constituents and anti-inflammatory effects of an ethanol extract of Platycodon grandiflorum leaves. Through HPLC analysis, chlorogenic acid and luteolin-7-O-glucoside were identified as predominant constituents in the ethanol extract. Their anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated using murine macrophage (RAW 264.7 cells) and human lung carcinoma cells (NCI-H292 & A549). The ethanol extract significantly (p<0.01) inhibited the production of nitrite, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, the ethanol extract suppressed the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) proteins in RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with LPS. In NCI-H292 and A549 cells, treatment with the ethanol extract significantly (p<0.05) decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 induced by IL-1β. The phosphorylation of ERK rather than JNK in the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway was observed to be a more important mediator in the down-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines in NCI-H292 cells. These findings suggest that the ethanol extract of Platycodon grandiflorum leaves containing luteolin-7-O-glucoside exhibits promising anti-inflammatory properties.
As the consumption of corn increases, the production of by-products is also increasing. In this study, functional substances and antioxidant activities of corn by-products were investigated to determine their applicability as functional materials. Total polyphenol, flavonoid contents, and ABTS antioxidant activity were the highest in leaves. The total phenolic acid content was the highest in cobs; p-coumaric and ferulic acid were the main components. Phytosterol content in leaves and stems was high at 64 and 50 days after sowing, 261.4 and 274.7 mg/100 g, respectively. β-sitosterol of the leaves and stems was the highest, 149.2 and 138.7 mg/100 g. The total phytosterol content of grains and by-products harvested 106 days after sowing was in the order of: corn silk, husk, grain, leaf, stem, and cob. Among the phytosterols, β-sitosterol was the highest, followed by stigmasterol and campesterol, and the composition was different depending on part. The total phytosterol content was the highest in husk and corn silk, but the stems and leaves, which account for 50% of the total corn biomass, also contained high phytosterol content. Therefore, corn leaves and stems are expected to be used as functional raw materials for the development of functional materials in the future.
본 연구에서는 시엽의 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 활용 가능성을 평가하기 위해 항산화와 인 간섬유아세포인 CCD-986sk 세포에서의 항주름 효과를 알아보았다. 전자공여능 측정, ABTS+ radical 소거능 측정을 통해 항산화 활성을 확인한 결과, 시엽은 1,000 μg/ml 농도에서 대조군인 ascorbic acid 와 농도 의존적으로 유사한 항산화 활성을 보였다. Elastase 저해 활성 측정, Collagenase 저해 활성 측 정을 통해 항주름 효과를 확인한 결과, 시엽은 1,000 μg/ml 농도에서 대조군인 epigallocatechin gallate 와 농도 의존적으로 유사한 항주름 효과를 나타내었다. UVB로 유도된 CCD-986sk 세포 내 pro-collagen type I의 합성률과 MMP-1의 저해률을 측정한 결과 대조군인 EGCG는 20 μg/ml에서 90.2%, 시엽은 30 μg/ml에서 88.5%의 pro-collagen 합성률을 보였다. 또한 EGCG 20 μg/ml와 시엽 30 μg/ml에서 각각 33.0%, 40.8%의 MMP-1 저해율을 확인하였다. Western blot을 통하여 시엽의 pro-collagen type I과 MMP-1의 단백질 발현량을 측정한 결과 UVB 단독군 대비 시엽을 함께 처리했 을 때 pro-collagen type I의 단백질 발현량이 증가하고 MMP-1의 단백질 발현량이 감소하는 것을 확 인하였다. 위 실험결과에 따라 시엽이 UVB 자극에 의한 광노화를 예방하고 항산화, 항주름 효과가 있음 을 확인하여 화장품의 천연물 소재로서의 이용이 기대된다.
To enhance the efficacy of Abeliophyllum distichum leaves, extracts were prepared using different solvents for hydrolytic enzyme-treated Abeliophyllum distichum leaves. Physicochemical quality and antioxidant activity were measured. Soluble solids, reducing sugar, ascorbic acid, flavonoids, and polyphenols contents showed the lowest values in the control without enzyme treatment. However, they showed high contents in ethanol extract. In the case of enzyme treatment, their values were higher than those of the control. In particular, verbascoside content increased about 220 times more than that of the control group when treated with enzymes and extracted with 50% ethanol. pH was lowered upon enzymatic treatment. Regarding DPPH radical scavenging activity, for enzyme-free, 25% ethanol extract showed the highest activity among extracts with different solvents. For cellulase and pectinase-treated leaves, water extract showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity among extracts with different solvents. For leaves treated with enzyme combination, 50% ethanol extract showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity among extracts with different solvents. Regarding ABTS radical scavenging activity, it was generally higher in the 50% ethanol extract than in the water extract and 25% ethanol extract. In particular, verbascoside content was increased when the extract was prepared by co-treatment with enzymes and 50% ethanol.
This study compared the antioxidant and mineral properties of the leaves and seeds of fifteen Korean adzuki bean (Vigna angularis L.) breeding lines. This study was conducted in an attempt to expand the use of Korean adzuki bean leaves. The potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium contents of the leaves were significantly higher than the seeds, in particularly, the potassium content. The leaves had approximately 3.3 times higher potassium content than the seeds. For instance, the potassium content of YA1317 leaves was 21% higher than that of Arari. The total polyphenol content and ABTS activity of Adzuki bean leaves were significantly higher than the seeds, as opposed to the total flavonoid content and DPPH scavenging activity. Among the 15 breeding lines, YA1402 had 1.2~3.2 times higher antioxidant content and activity as compared to the Arari variety. It was concluded that adzuki bean leaves had higher mineral content, antioxidant component and activity as compared to the seeds. Therefore, adzuki bean leaves could be used an ingredient for dishes and as a medicine.
This study aimed to investigate the biological activities, including polyphenolic content, flavonoid content, and antioxidant activities, of various cultivars of Korean perilla leaves. The results indicated that among nine cultivars (Namcheon dlggae, Saedora, Nulbora, Donggel 1, Donggell 2, Soim, Sangyeop, Somirang, and Saebom) of perilla leaves, the total polyphenolic content (gallic acid equivalent mg/g, GAE) was the highest in “Nulbora,” while it was lowest in Namcheon dlggae. Moreover, flavonoid content in the extracts of nine cultivars leaves was in the range of 132.93~268.50 mg catechin equivalent/g sample. The antioxidant effects of the perilla leaves were determined using two different in vitro bioassays measuring DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging activities. The results revealed that antioxidant activity was also higher in “Nulbora” compared with other cultivars. Xanthin-oxidase-inhibition activity ranged from 65.65% to 80.58%, with “Nulbora” exhibiting the highest activity, although the difference with other cultivars was not significant. “Nulbora” extracts reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory genes and several cytokines, including IL-6 activation induced by LPS in macrophages in the range of 100–50 μg/mL. These results suggest that extracts from perilla leaves can be used as bioactive and functional materials that could be important in industrial applications in the future.
본 연구는 RGB, 초분광 센서를 이용하여 시기별 사과 잎의 엽록소와 질소 함량을 예측하여 사과 나무 잎의 질소 영양을 진단하기 위해 수행되었다. 분광 데이터는 사과나무 ‘홍로 /M.9’ 2년생을 대상으로 고해상도 RGB와 초분광 센서로 촬 영 후 영상처리를 통해 취득하였다. 식물체 데이터는 촬영이 끝난 직후 엽록소와 잎 질소 함량을 측정하였다. 엽록소 측정 기의 SPAD meter, RGB 센서의 개별 파장, 컬러 식생지수 및 초분광 센서의 214개의 파장과 식물체 데이터를 이용하여 회 귀분석을 실시하였다. 엽록소와 잎 질소 함량 데이터는 시기 와 상관없이 질소 시비량에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 잎은 시기가 지나면서 잎에 있던 영양분이 과실로 전이되어 색이 옅어졌으며 RGB센서의 경우 Red파장에서 시 기와 상관없이 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 초분광 센서의 경우 두 시기 모두 질소 시비 수준에 따라 가시광 영역 보다 비가시광 영역에서 차이가 크게 나타났다. 반사값를 이 용하여 식물체 특성의 예측 모델 결과 엽록소, 잎 질소함량 모 두 초분광 데이터를 이용한 부분최소제곱 회귀분석을 이용하 였을 때 성능이 가장 높게 나타났다(chlorophyll: 81% / 63%, leaf nitrogen content: 81% / 67%). 이러한 원인은 RGB 센서 에 비해 초분광 센서는 좁은 FWHM과 400-1,000nm의 넓 은 파장 범위를 가지고 있어 질소 결핍에 의한 스트레스로 인 해 작물의 분광학적 해석이 가능했을 것으로 판단된다. 추후 분광학적 특성을 이용하여 전 생육 시기의 수체 생리, 생태 모 델 개발 및 검증 그리고 병해충 진단 등 연구를 통해 고품질, 안 정적인 과실 생산 기술 개발에 기여될 것으로 사료된다.
An increasing trend embracing the 2030 generation mindset through the new word ‘newtro’, which means reinterpreting the past and selling it in the present, has been gaining traction. The 2030 generation who seek new experiences and desserts is growing. The unique dessert market is expected to continue to grow in the future. Thus, this study devised a pine needle madeleine. Madeleines were made by varying the proportions of pine needle powder added to 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%, and specific gravity, moisture, color, physical properties, and antioxidant properties were measured. The L-value decreased significantly (p<0.001) as the amount of pine needle powder added increased, and the a-value increased (p<0.001). The total polyphenol content, DPPH, and ABTS gradually increased significantly (p<0.001). Through this study, it was possible to confirm the quality and characteristics of madeleines using pine needle powder, which has excellent antioxidant properties, and it will become basic data for the development of various desserts using pine needle powder.
This work reports utilization of apple leaves as a source of activated carbon. Activated carbon from apple leaves is prepared by two different methods, thermal activation where AC1 is obtained and chemical activation using H3PO4 and ZnCl2 where AC2 and AC3 are obtained, respectively. XRD analysis revealed that all types of prepared ACs have a semi-crystalline nature with a mean crystallite size of 13, 21.02, and 39.47 nm for AC1, AC2, and AC3, respectively. To identify the most suitable desorption temperature, the exothermic behavior was discovered for the three types of ACs by DSC. The exothermic onset temperatures are 340 °C, 200 °C, 400 °C, or AC1, AC2, and AC3, respectively. The point of zero charge for the three types of ACs is 8.6, 7.3, and 2.5 for AC1, AC2, and AC3, respectively. The BET surface area analysis data demonstrated that mesoporous structure was developed in AC1 and AC2, while a microporous structure was developed in AC3. Quantum chemical calculations for ACs is carried out using Density Functional Theory (DFT). Application of the prepared ACs in adsorption of basic dye C.I. base blue 47 is studied. The maximum removal efficiency was 65.1%, 96% and 99% for AC1, AC2, and AC3, respectively under the influence of different operating aspects. Adsorption data are modeled by Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms. The data revealed that adsorption of basic dye C.I. base blue 47 on AC1 follows Langmuir isotherm and adsorption on AC2 and AC3 follows Freundlich isotherm.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the volatile flavor compounds of Ligularia stenocephala and Ligularia fischeri, edible wild plants. The volatile flavor compounds were isolated by the simultaneous distillation extraction method and analyzed by GC-MSD (gas chromatography-mass selective detector). Forty-eight volatile flavor compounds were identified in the extracts from L. stenocephala and the major compounds were sabinene, cis-ocimene, trans-caryophyllene, and β-elemene. Fifty-one volatile flavor compounds were identified in the extracts from L. fischeri and the major compounds were α-pinene, germacrene-D, transcaryophyllene, endo-1-bourbonanol and 1-limonene. The common volatile flavor compounds between two plants were transcaryophyllene, sabinene, β-elemene and β-cubebene etc. However, α-phellendrene and myrcene were identified in L. stenocephala, but were not identified in L. fischeri. However α-pinene, germacrene-D and limonene were identified in L. fischeri but were not identified in L. stenocephala.
The purpose of this study was to remove lead and arsenic ions from aqueous solutions using the activated carbon prepared from Citrus limon tree leaves. Characteristics of the prepared adsorbent were studied thoroughly using BET, SEM, EDS and mapping, XRD, and RAMAN analyses. The results of experiments showed that the highest adsorption efficiencies were 97.67% and 95.89% for Pb (II) and As (III), respectively. Additionally, the adsorbent was successfully regenerated four times and therefore it was able to perform the adsorption and desorption processes well. Moreover, the results of adsorption kinetics showed that the pseudo second-order kinetic model was more effective for the description of adsorption mechanism of both metals. Furthermore, the equilibrium studies indicated that Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were desirable for lead and arsenic ions, respectively.

This study investigated the volatile flavor composition of essential oils extracted from Synurus deltoides (Arr.) Nakai. The essential oils extracted from the aerial parts of plants by the hydrodistillation extraction method were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. Ninety-six (98.76%) volatile flavor compounds were identified in the essential oil extracted from fresh leaves of S. deltoides (Arr.) Nakai. The major compounds were 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (19.91%) and phytol (12.38%). Ninety-seven (97.81%) volatile flavor compounds were identified in the essential oil extracted from shade-dried leaves of S. deltoides (Arr.) Nakai. The major compounds were phytol (51.71%), di(6-methylhept-2-yl) phthalate (7.66%), and 6,10,14-trimethyl-2- pentadecanone (4.23%). Quantitative variations of 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, phytol and di(6-methylhept-2-yl) phthalate according to different state of S. deltoides (Arr.) Nakai can serve as a quality index of essential oils used in the food industry.
