Asan city has many strengths, for examples, the distinction of innovation ability, several places with clean environmental resources, conventional-cultural resources and favorable conditions of location in regional agriculture development. But it has not devised the comprehensive development plan for regional agriculture that is integrating natural, cultural and industrial resources. So the plan linked with those resources should be to promoted to develop agricultural production, marketing and regional economy. And a development strategy is to have the system of agricultural independence within Asan. Namely, originality, identity and cooperative spirit in economic and social-cultural aspects of Asan agriculture are needed, which are a great help to settle agricultural issues in Asan itself. And the governance system needs to be introduced that has the main bodies of Asan agriculture, so as to promote agricultural policy.

The trend towards forming economic blocs coupled with global economic arrangements such as DDA and FTA increase pressure on the liberalization of the agricultural sector. South Korea is taking part in the DDA negotiations. Once the DDA negotiations are implemented, the extent of liberation of the agricultural market is expected to be wider and timing of market opening is sooner than those effects of the UR agricultural agreement. A reduction in tariff rates and the government subsidy will follow, accordingly. However, many analysts in the agricultural sector express deep concern over a negative development in local agricultural market as demonstrated in China where the local market was dominated by imported agricultural products. This study aimed to investigate progress that China made in favor of the agricultural industry, including environment-friendly agricultural policy, and suggest ideas to drive the development of the agricultural industry in a better direction in Korea by comparing the two countries.

The objectives of this study were to find development process and strategies for school lunch program using environmentally friendly agri-products (EFA). In order to improve the quality of school lunch program from elementary school to high school, the demand of EFA is increasing step by step such as a parent’s association and the citizen group. For that reason, establishment by regional ordinance for school lunch program using EFA is rapidly expanded throughout the country. To develop school lunch program using EFA, we have to consider WTO regulations and product reliable EFA under the demand-supply stabilization. Moreover, environmentally friendly agri-policy to be more focused on the promotion the consumer’s interests and food safety need.

A survey of 31 organic farmers were conducted to investigate the actual conditions of organic matter application. The amounts of organic matter application in the fields were higher in order of fruit, vegetable and rice farm. The average was 50 ton/㏊ in vegetable farms. In the green vegetable farms saw dust and animal manure were mainly utilized to make compost. Rice straw, wood chip, and forest bushes were also used for composting. In the fruit vegetable farms materials relatively lower in nitrogen content such as rice straw and cattle manure were used in vegetative period and materials higher in nitrogen content such as oil cake and wild grass were used in reproductive phase. Nutrient balance investigated in the farm in Icheon region who produce lettuce, angelica, and kale continuously in one cropping year indicated surplus in three major nutrients. Nitrogen and phosphorous were in excess by 29 and 10 ㎏ respectively in the organic rice farm in yangpyoung region. While soil chemical properties in the organic farms are within the adequate range in open field, it is much higher than the limits in the greenhouse soils. Overall application of organic matter is in an oversupply state. This results suggested that the organic matter management should be based on the soil conditions for sustainable cultivation. Chemical composition of organic matters and soil test reports should be considered prior to the application of organic matter.

This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of application of diluted and undiluted cattle slurry with water on seasonal and annual dry matter yields and feed values of tall fescue in the uncultivated rice paddy and it was compared with chemical fertilizer. Annual dry matter yields for diluted (average 6.43 ton DM/㏊) and undiluted (average 6.56 ton DM/㏊) cattle slurry were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of no fertilizer (3.82 ton DM/㏊). This trend was much more conspicuous in treatments applied in spring. In chemical fertilizer treatments, fertilizers with P and K (6.12 ton DM/㏊), and P, K and N (10.13 ton DM/㏊) had significantly (p<0.05) higher dry matter yields compared with no fertilizer. However, annual dry matter yields for treatments of P and K mixture tended to be lower than those of cattle slurry applications. The efficiency of DM production for inorganic nitrogen in chemical fertilizers annually averaged 26.7kg DM/kg N. In terms of cutting frequencies, it was highest in 2nd growth followed by 1st and 3rd growth. On the other hand, efficiencies of annual DM production of nitrogen for diluted and undiluted cattle slurry were 18.3 and 17.4 ㎏ DM/kg N, respectively, especially, highest in 2nd growth. While, efficiencies of DM production for cattle slurry versus for inorganic nitrogen were 68.5 (undiluted) and 65.2% (diluted), respectively. For annual crude protein contents of tall fescue, no fertilization (11.5%) was significantly higher than chemical fertilizer, but that was lower than cattle slurry (12.4~12.6%) diluted with water. on the contrary, no fertilizers had significantly lower NDF (64.1%) and ADF (37.2%) contents than those of any other treatments, but their RFV (87.0) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than other treatments. The application of cattle slurry and their dilution significantly increased yields of crude protein and total digestible nutrients compared with no and/or P and K fertilizers (p<0.05). This trend was more conspicuous in cattle slurry applied in the early spring.

The investigation of the effect of the deep sea water in different concentration (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) on the inhibition of growth, fresh weight, dry weight of the tomato, hot pepper, cucumber plug seedlings were conducted. As the concentration of the deep sea water was higher, the greater inhibition was noticed. The height were decreased at the rate of 8%, 25%, 32% in tomato, 9%, 26%, 27% in hot pepper, and 21%, 50%, 58% in cucumber plug seedlings as compare to local check. The fresh weights were decreased highly, as the concentration of the deep sea water increased. Tomato seedlings showed the decrease rate of 12%, 23%, 33% at above the ground part of plants, and 2%, 30%, 52% at under the ground parts. Likewise, Hot pepper seedlings showed the decrease rate of 1.1%, 5.7%, 15.4% at above the ground part of plants, and 22.1%, 25%, 47.1%, respectively at under the ground parts. The fresh weight of cucumber was decreased at the rate of 8.1%, 36%, 51% in the above the ground, and 6.2%, 11%, 65% at the under the ground parts. In tomato, hot pepper, and cucumber seedlings, the dry weight was decreased as the concentration of deep sea water was increased. Thirty percent of deep sea water treatment reduced the dry weight of the seedlings as half of the control seedlings. One of the important factors of the seedling quality is compactness. Compactness was highest at 20% deep sea water in all the three crop seedlings.

These studies were conducted to evaluate the feasibility of spent bleaching clay (SBC) as a feed resource for ruminants. Three Holstein dairy cows, surgically fitted with ruminal cannula, were used in a 3 × 3 Latin Square design. Dietary treatments were 1) basal diet, 2) basal diet plus 2% of SBC and 3) basal diet plus 4% of SBC. Rumen fluid was sampled at 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 hours following the start of the morning feeding. Nylon bags containing experimental diets were used to determine ruminal nutrient disappearance at 0, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. The values of ruminal pH in cows receiving 4% of SBC was lower than those of the control and 2% SBC supplement. The NH₃-N concentration in the rumen was higher at the 3 hour than for cows of control and 2% of SBC supplement. Total VFA concentrations in the rumen were not affected by the addition of SBC. Dry matter and organic matter disappearance in the rumen was lower at the 6 hours than the control and 2% SBC treatment, but no difference at the end of the 24 hour.
