This paper aims to analyze inequality of maize self-sufficiency rate among countries in 1970-2011. Utilizing sub-group consistency of Generalized Entropy and Atkinson inequality index, the estimated maize self-sufficiency rate inequality is further decomposed into two steps’ separate country groups. First, lower and upper income groups and then lower, lower middle, upper middle and high income groups are used based on the national classification of the world bank. It is inferred that 1980s’ policy intervention and 1990s’ Uruguay Round negotiations have different effect on the inequality among four different country groups.
The objective of this study is to propose a necessity of alternative certification for low-pesticide agricultural products (LPAP). For this, we conduct a survey consumer and distributor. Most of consumer does not aware an abolition of LPAP. After abolition, they will purchase pesticide-free, organic, conventional, GAP certificated in order. Both consumer and distributor need an alternative certification of LPAP and have willingness-to-purchase. However, it is necessary to make up for the reliability and objectivity on the alternative and to manage a poor certification. The results of this study is meaningful to distribution and consumption of environment- friendly agricultural products.
The major purpose of this study was analyzing of farmer’s intention in related to organic agriculture by using of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Farmers of Chungchung Province (n=164) were administered a questionnaire survey that measured TPB constructs. The data and hypotheses were analyzed using multiple regression and confirmatory factor analysis by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results showed that attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavior of control were all positively related to farmer’s intention of organic agriculture and explained power of the model was relatively high which was 51 percent. Also the results of the analysis showed that the subjective norm was a key dimension of farmer’s intention in terms of standardized coefficient. The study demonstrated that the reduced theory of planned behavior was fit for factors of farmer’s intention. The meaning of the study and implications for future studies were discussed.
The Hongseong-Gun school food service center (Hongseong SFSC) that is managed directly by local government is supplying local environmentally friendly foods from 2014. This study aimed to analyze a case on Hongseong SFSC and to propose improving directions. Hongseong SFSC showed higher supply ratio (67.4%) of local environmentally friendly foods compared to the other centers. The operation effects of this center are reliably price of farmer’s products, increased consumption of local agri-products, school food confidence, and so on. But there are many problems on this operation. Improvement directions of SFSC for local food system are as follows: Firstly, the supply range of foodstuffs is needed to establish quality standards to increase foodstuffs quality. Secondly, guidelines for creating a fair commission fee structure should be established. Thirdly, the contract issues between the center and schools need to be resolved by governance system. Fourthly, local environmentally friendly agricultural cultivation and cropping systems are required to establish reliably supply of farmer’s products.
his study was carried out to investigate antimicrobial activities of water extracted Pleurotus ostreatus var Heuktari (PO), and their application to F. fujikuroi Nirenberg growth inhibition material. Various organic solvents (chloroform, hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol) were tested to investigate the antimicrobial activities of Pleurotus ostreatus var Heuktari against F. fujikuroi Nirenberg. Chloroform, hexane, ethyl acetate and hot water extracts had no antimicrobial activities, but butanol extract showed 2.5% strong activities in order of F. fujikuroi Nirenberg disk diffusion test. Then we observe Antifungal activity using green house. Bed soil and mushroom extract mixed at 10%, 7.5%, 5%, 2.5%, 1% total bed soil mass. Screening of Antifungal activity was tested two periode 18day and 25day. The Antifungal activity rate of each period and extract density was 7.5% mixed bedsoil has investigated 80% Antifungal activity rate. The result indicates that the Pleurotus ostreatus var Heuktari extract using F. fujikuroi Nirenberg registance, which shows the development of organic agriculture seed disinfectant.
This study was carried out to allelopathic effects of aqueous extracts on Coronopus didymus in order to investigate the competitive dominant in plant ecosystem and possibility application in natural herbicide. Number of species and species diversity for close to patch of C. didymus was decreased gradually site #1 (7, 1.76), site #2 (5, 1.34) and site #3 (5, 1.25). It was generally decreased the relative germination ratio (r=-0.731, p<0.01), the mean germination time, the relative elongation ratio (r=-571, p<0.01, r=-0.730, p<0.01), the relative fresh weight (r=-0.743, p<0.01), development of root hairs of receptor plants by concentration of the aqueous extracts from C. didymu. But they were different from the growing regions, the kind of receptor plants and the treatment of the aqueous extracts. Especially, it was differently effected among growing regions that inhibited more radicle than shoot by the aqueous extracts concentration of C. didymus. Total phenolic compound in the aqueous extracts of C. didymus analyzed about 23.0±1.1 mg/g. Total phenolic compounds of soil in survey area was increased gradually site #1 (0.072 ± 0.002 mg/g), site #2 (0.082 ± 0.003mg/g) and site #3 (0.092 ± 0.004 mg/g). We think that the aqueous extracts of C. didymu showed allelopathic effects on other plants. Therefore, C. didymu hold the competitive dominant of plant ecosystem in Jeju Island and possibility application of natural herbicide.
Qualitiy characteristics such as moisture content, pH, acidity, sugar content, salinity, appearance, flavor, taste, color and overall acceptance of apple Jangachi cured with different traditional Korean sauces (Kochujang, Doenjang, Kanjang) were investigated during storage time. The initial moisture content of the apple Jangachi was an average of 14.97%. But after curing with the three sauces (Kochujang, Doenjang, and Kanjaing) moisture content increased to 27~28%, 41~ 4% and 56~58%, respectively. The pH was 4.84-5.42 regardless of sauce. Total acidity increased from 0.4%, 0.34%, 0.34% to 1.14%, 0.60%, 0.67%. respectively. But acidity decreased after 10 days. Sugar content of apple jangachi decreased throughout the aging time regardless of sauce type. Salinity of apple Jangachi increased to a certain level during storage time regardless of sauce type. Apple Jangachi softened during storage as they increased in moisture content. All sensory characteristics of Kocuhjang apples showed a higher score than Doenjang and Kanjang. Overall, Kocuhjang seems most appropriate for curing apple Jangachi.
This study was conducted to evaluate effects of various eco light sources with various lighting distance in ‘Viking’ rose (Rosa spp.) on the growth and flowering quality to be applied for farm sites. Treatment included 10-, 20-, and 30-RL (-BL, -RBL, -FL, and -IL), which referred to red LED (blue LED, red+blue LED, fluorescent, and incandescent) lighting at 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm respectively, apart from flowers. NL referred to natural light as a control. Growth and flowering of ‘Viking’ rose were non-destructively measured at 4, 6, and 8 weeks after treatment (WAT). FL treatment increased plant height at 4, 6, and 8 WAT, regardless of lighting distance, with the shortest height observed for the NL-treated flowers. 30 RL treatment also increased plant height at 6 and 8 WAT. Stem diameter and number of leaves were not significantly different for all the treatments at 8 WAT, with the lowest values observed for RBL treated-flowers among the light source treatments. Number of root was the greatest for the 30 BL-treated flowers (10.0) but the fewest for the 30 FL (4.7). Length of flower neck at 6 WAT was the extended by 6~7 cm in the 10 FL and 20 FL treatments as well as by 5~6 cm in the 20 RL and 30 RL treatments, inducing 100% of flowering. NL increased a* (29) of flower color, with the lowest value (10) observed for 20 RL. All things considered, 30 RL would be the best interaction treatment of source and distance of eco light to improve plant height and flowering quality of ‘Viking’ rose.
The main purpose of the current study was to compare quality of eggs 1) produced from hens housed in battery cages vs. free range, 2) from young vs. old hens, and 3) tagged with the lowest vs. the highest price in a local franchised mart. The ages of hens, at which their eggs were used for the analysis of quality, were 70 weeks old in the experiment 1, 22 and 47 weeks old in the experiment 2, and were unknown in the experiment 3. Eggs were analyzed for weight, albumen height, Haugh unit, shell color, shell strength, shell thickness, shell weight, yolk color, yolk weight, and egg white weight. In the experiment 1, significant differences were detected between two housing systems in shell color, shell weight, yolk color, and yolk weight (P<0.05), but not in egg weight, albumen height, Haugh unit, shell strength, shell thickness, and egg white weight (P>0.05). Although egg weight was slightly but not significantly higher in battery cages by 2.2 g than in free range, yolk weight was significantly higher in battery cage (P<0.05). On the contrary, shell color was greatly increased in free range system by 68.5% compared with battery cage. In the experiment 2, there were significant differences between young and old hens in egg weight, albumen height, Haugh unit, shell strength, shell weight, yolk color and yolk weight (P<0.05). Egg weight, shell weight, yolk color and yolk weight were increased in old hens than young hensile albumen height, Haugh unit, and shell strength were decreased. In the experiment 3, egg weight, albumen height, Haugh unit, shell weight, and egg white weight were significantly higher in the highest priced eggs than the lowest ones (P<0.05), whereas shell strength and yolk color were lower (P<0.05) but shell color, shell thickness and yolk weight were not different (P>0.05). So, egg freshness was clearly higher in the highest priced ones than in the lowest (P<0.05). Due to the limited information on raising and husbandry of laying hens whose eggs were tested for egg quality in the current study, the present results should be cautiously interpreted while contributing to the future study as a basis in this field.
The mortality was tested to organic control materials to the E. maslovskii adults by the dipping method in laboratory. As the result, in 2014, the extracts of Neem Ⅰ was not shown control effect by 10.2% control efficacy to E. maslovskii adults in laboratory. The extract of Sophora flavescens roots was shown 84.7% mortality. And other 5 materials were shown 100% insecticidal activity to the adults in laboratory. I n 2015, Plant extract+pyrolignous acid Matrine 0.45% and Plant extract Matrine 0.5+paraffin oil 8% were shown 100% and 94.6% control efficacy, respectively. In the Japanese apricot orchards, the fruit damage rate was low on spray at 21th April in Daap, Gwangyang city, and 8th May Hwangjeon, Suncheon city in Jeonnam province in 2014. The fruit damage rate differed from spray timing and materials, but it was considered that the control of E. maslovskii should be in late April to early May. Otherwise, in 2015, the fruit damage was significantly low in late April spray in Daap, but no significant was in between one spray at 21th, 27th April and 2 spray that days. Meanwhile, the control effect was better 2 times spray of the days in Hwangjeon, Suncheon city in Jeonnam province. Therefore, in organic Japanese apricot, the use of insecticidal materials recommended to control over twice spay in from meddle to late April.
Analyzing the 13 sort contents of broccoli leaves by using GC/MS, sulforaphane was found in 11 sort of broccoli leaves for the result. After being grinded by the blinder, amount of sulforaphane in broccoli leaves was rapidly raised after thirty minutes and maintained the amount till sixty minutes have passed. Among the parts of broccoli, the root had the most sulforaphane. In freezing temperature, biosythesized sulforaphane maintained longer than in room temperature. However, even in frozen condition, the amount of sulforaphane was reduced to half or less after 3 weeks.
