The use of microwave-assisted extraction and an acid-base clean-up process to determine the amount of methylmercury (MeHg) in marine products was suggested in order to improve the complicated sample preparation process. The optimal conditions for microwave-assisted extraction was developed by using a 10% NaCl solution as an extraction solution, setting the extraction temperature at 50℃, and holding for 15 minutes to extract the MeHg in marine products. A NaOH solution was selected as a clean-up substitute instead of L-cysteine solution. Overall, 670 samples of marine products were analyzed for total mercury (Hg). Detection levels were in the range of 0.0006~0.3801 μg/kg. MeHg was analyzed and compared using the current food code and the proposed method for 49 samples which contained above 0.1 mg/kg of Hg. Detection ranges of methylmercury followed by the Korea Food Code and the proposed method were 75.25 (ND~516.93) μg/kg and 142.07 (100.14~244.55) μg/kg, respectively. The total analytical time of proposed method was reduced by more than 25% compared with the current food code method.
The objective of this study was to find out a nomenclature and a code number for fruit commodities from the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) corresponding with a commodity name used in South Korea. In addition, nomenclature or classification for commodity that needs an alteration or detailed examination domestically was determined. In this study, ‘Food Code (Korean and English version)’ and ‘Pesticide MRLs in Food’ from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and ‘Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds’ were used. As results, regarding a nomenclature or classification used in South Korea, it appeared that alteration or further examination was needed for the following (English name of commodity, coming from an English version of Food Code). First, reconsiderations for classification of Chinese matrimony vine, fig, five-flavor magnolia vine, and pomegranate are needed as they are classified differently between Korea and Codex. Second, in any case of Korean or English language, nomenclature of commodity is different even within Korea or when it is compared with Codex. Such commodities are: Asian citron, Chinese bush cherry, Chinese matrimony vine, coconut, crimson glory vine, date palm, five-flavor magnolia vine, five-leaf chocolate vine, Japanese apricot, Japanese cornelian cherry, jujube, kiwifruit (golden kiwi), Korean black berry, Korean raspberry, kumquat, lychee, mandarin, persimmon, plum, quince, raspberry, and trifoliate orange. Third, reconsiderations for peach and raspberry nomenclatures are needed as it is currently unclear whether ‘peach’ includes nectarine and an English nomenclature, ‘raspberry’, is used in Korea for both various varieties (red, black) and one specific variety.
The objective of this study was to develop software to predict the kinetic behavior and the probability of foodborne bacterial growth on processed meat products. It is designed for rapid application by non-specialists in predictive microbiology. The software, named Foodborne bacteria Animal product Modeling Equipment (FAME), was developed using Javascript and HTML. FAME consists of a kinetic model and a probabilistic model, and it can be used to predict bacterial growth pattern and probability. In addition, validation and editing of model equation are available in FAME. The data used by the software were constructed with 5,400 frankfurter samples for the kinetic model and 345,600 samples for the probabilistic model using a variety of combinations including atmospheric conditions, temperature, NaCl concentrations and NaNO2 concentrations. Using FAME, users can select the concentrations of NaCl and NaNO2 meat products as well as storage conditions (atmosphere and temperature). The software displays bacterial growth patterns and growth probabilities, which facilitate the determination of optimal safety conditions for meat products. FAME is useful in predicting bacterial kinetic behavior and growth probability, especially for quick application, and is designed for use by non-specialists in predictive microbiology.
The world is becoming overwhelmed with widespread diseases as antibiotic resistance increases at an alarming rate. Hence, there is a demanding need for the discovery and development of new antimicrobial drugs. The ocean is gifted with many organisms like phytoplankton, algae, sponges, cnidarians, bryozoans, mollusk, tunicates and echinoderms, which are known to produce a wide variety of bioactive secondary metabolites with pharmacological properties. Many new therapeutic drugs have emerged from marine invertebrates, although the large algal community is yet to be explored. The bioactivity possessing secondary metabolites of marine algae include polyphenols, phlorotannins, alkaloids, halogenated compounds, sulfated polysaccharides, agar, carrageenan, proteoglycans, alginate, laminaran, rhamnan sulfate, galactosylglycerol, and fucoidan. These metabolites have been found to have great antimicrobial activities against many human aliments. Studies show that the algal community represents about 9% of biomedical compounds obtained from the sea. This review looks at the evolution of drugs from the ocean, with a special emphasis on the antimicrobial activities of marine algae.
항암작용과 간 질환을 예방하는 약용곤충으로 널리 알려진 흰점박이꽃무지 유충은 2016년 12월 일반식품으로 등록되었으나 판매가가 높아 소비가 활발하게 이루어지지 않고 있어 생산 단가를 낮추는 기술이 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 흰점박이꽃무지의 생산 비용을 절감하고 생산성을 향상시키기 위해 농업부산물인 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지와 표고버섯 수확 후 배지를 유충의 먹이로 급이하여 생육특성과 미량성분, 중금속함 량을 조사하였고 대조구로는 관행으로 사용되고 있는 참나무 발효톱밥을 급이하였다. 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지를 급이한 처리구가 유충사육기간이 16.2일로 가장 짧았고 유충 무게 증가율과 고치 무게는 각각 156.3%와 4.1 g이었다. 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지를 급이한 처리구에서 용화율은 100%였고 우화율은 93.9%로 가장 높았지만 통계적 유의차는 없었다. 또한 총질소함량도 10.28%로 가장 높았고 미량원소 중 철은 145.8 mg/kg으로 다른 먹이와 비교해 높은 결과를 보였다. 성충의 산란선호성은 먹이 간 통계적 유의차가 없었다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합하였을 때 기존에 사용하고 있는 참나무 발효톱밥 대신 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지를 먹이로 사용하면 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 100 kg 당 667,960원의 비용이 감소할 것으로 추정된다.
국내 563만 가구가 반려동물을 기르는 것으로 추정되며, 반려동물의 수는 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이와 동시에 유기동물도 급격하게 증가하고 있다. 농림축산식품부의 통계 자료에 의하면 2016년 89,000 마리가 유기되었다고 발표하였다. 이는 하루 244마리가 유기되고 있는 것이다. 유기동물의 증가와 더불어 정부에서 사용되는 처리 비용 또한 증가 하고 있으며, 원보호자를 찾거나, 재 입양을 가지 못한 반려동물의 경우 인도적 처리를 한다. 이는 안락사를 의미한다. 따라서 반려인에게는 반려동물의 입양경로와 애로점, 유기 동물 입양의사 및 사후처리과정 인지여부를 설문조사하였으며, 비반려인에게는 캣맘, 캣 대디에 대한 생각, 유기동물에 대한 생각 및 사후처리 과정에 대해 설문조사를 함으로써 반려동물 및 유기동물에 제도적 정비 및 선진화된 반려동물문화가 필요할 것으로 본다.
Development, availability and users’ participation in the information service of agricultural food sector is slower than that of other sectors in Korea. This phenomenon comes from the lack of development strategies and comparative analyses with other sectors, as well as the agricultural food industry’s own characteristics which is developed based on the offline market.
In this research, we will discuss about how to improve the public information service of agricultural food sector based on the example of establishing service improvement strategy by the most representative Okdab. In this research, we have drawn the following implications for development strategy of Okdab service based on three core keywords derived from benchmarking KOSIS.
Three core subjects for upgrading public information service are ‘analysis information with expertise and differentiation,’ ‘user cooperation-oriented platform,’ and ‘intuitive nd effective UX,’ and to strength B.I. as an integrated information service of agricultural food sector, we need to identify the users’ satisfaction and needs for the existing service, establish an optimized operating strategy on a short-term, mid-term and long term bases, and implement them in a positive way. Based on this positive action, it can become a trustworthy information service for the users, and we can expect the improvement of the users’ recognition for its consistent usability and efficiency.
Fig is a fruit of which the flesh is very sweet, and it is a tree which has been grown for fruit in Korea since long time ago. However, since the flesh of fig tends to be easily softened, commercial cultivation of this fruit began later than that of other fruit trees grown for profit, however, the cultivation and demand of fig tend to be increased steadily due to the development of technology for storage and distribution since the 2000s.
In addition, as the domestic dining culture is getting diversified, the dishes cooked by using fig as a food material are introduced through diverse foods including dessert, and it is possible to intake fig in diverse ways, but not through the traditional processed food. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a measure of expanding the consumption of fig as a processed food, and it will be possible to overcome the limitation of short storage period, while securing the competitiveness of the fig industry. In this research, we have studied the history of domestic fig cultivation, current status of it and status of processed foods through related documents and materials, and the characteristics of the consumers who purchase figs. Fig is a traditional fruit, however, we could find out the fact that the consumers tend not to recognize it as a traditional one. Therefore, if we could add fig to various processed foods utilizing its sweet taste, rather than increasing the consumption of fresh fruits, it may increase the consumption of it.
본 논문에서는 국민생활안전에 밀접한 영향을 미치는 식품안전 패키징 기술 개발을 위하여, 식품의 신선도를 나타낼 수 있고, 신선식품의 부패 과정에서 발생하는 휘발성 염기질소 등 다양한 부패생성물을 감지하기 위한 색변환 센서기술을 연구하였다. 잉크젯, 바-코팅, 그라비아 등의 다양한 인쇄 방법을 통해 원가 경쟁 력이 우수한 스마트 패키징 제품 개발을 위해 신선육의 부패에 따른 pH 변화 범위 내에서 분명한 색변환 특성을 나타내는 염료와 수용성 고분자 지지체를 활용해 신선도 지시계 용도의 잉크를 제조 한 후, 소고기, 닭고기, 돼지고기 등의 신선육의 부패에 따른 휘발성 염기질소 반응 정도를 측정하여 센서의 감도 및 신뢰도를 연구하였다.
Many paddy cultivating farmers in the country are forced to use their limited resources to produce adequate food for their family, leading to the degradation and reduction in potential of these resources. The yield levels of paddy at the farmers’ level and in the Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) conducted in the farmers’ fields is not at par with potential yield of the paddy variety. The gap between potential yield of crop variety and yield realized in FLDs refers to Research gap and the yield gap between FLDs and due to farmers’ practice refers to Extension gap. The earlier studies conducted in India in general and in Andhra Pradesh in particular highlighted the existence of both research and extension gaps with reference to paddy. It is essential that, the narrowing of both research and extension gaps is not static, but dynamic considering the influence of technological interventions in boosting paddy yields at FLDs level and at farmers’ level and also with the improvement of the yield potential of paddy varieties. This calls for integrated and holistic approaches to address these two gaps and with this background, the researcher aimed at this in depth study. The findings revealed that, research gaps are high with reference to weed management and pest management and extension gaps are high with reference to farm mechanization followed by fertilizer management. Reliable source of seed, capital use and frequency of meetings with Scientists or Agricultural Officers significantly influence the extension gaps in paddy. Farmers also prioritized socio-economic and technical constraints and the analysis infers that, it is high time now for the farmers to adopt the planned technological interventions on scientific scale to minimize the extension gaps to the extent possible. As the enabling environment in the State of Andhra Pradesh is highly encouraging for the farmers with relevant policy instruments in the form of subsidized inputs, free power, credit at concessional rates of interest, constructing irrigation projects etc., the adoption of the proposed technological interventions significantly contribute to minimizing both research and extension gaps in paddy cultivation in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.
